Shure SRH Headphones

By Sweetwater Customer on December 15, 2023

I really like these headphones - couldn't decide between several in this price range but with the help of Robbie from Sweetwater finally decided on these. Using for multiple purposes - mixing, listening to music, plugging into my electric piano, and while I've only had them a couple weeks, I really like the sound and articulation you get from these headphones. I bought the two pack, and I would definitely recommend them in this price range.

Shure SRH240A Closed-back Headphones

By Gary Gailor from Fairport, NY on September 13, 2023 Music Background: 71 year old guitar and percussion player

I purchased these headphones from Sweetwater after a long search to replace my two older pair that were literally falling apart. After reading numerous reviews online, I decided on the Shure SRH240A. I am so happy that I did, they are super comfortable, and the clarity of the sound of my classic vinyl is better than expected. I would definitely recommend these headphones.

Will was nice

By Sean Hunter from Schenectady, NY on May 24, 2023 Music Background: play piano, clarinet, sing, dabbled in guitar & harmonica

I called because I have a Yamaha electric piano & needed headphones so I could play it without my neighbor complaining. Will was very nice & informative. He sent me the correct headphones for the electric piano & when I called him up several days later to ask how to plug them into the back of the electric piano he told me that I was missing some part that needed to go onto the end, so I checked all my boxes & found it. Everything's working ok now. He also suggested I bring the electric piano to my local Hilton's to have it looked at, as the sound is a little fuzzy.

Excellent Sound Quality

By Paula Dunbar from Arvada, CO on March 17, 2023

Highly recommend this headset. The first time I started playing my new keyboard with this headset, I had to take off the headset to check if the sound was going into the room instead of the headset. The sound was SO realistic, it sounded like the real instrument, not just a digital sound. Very happy. It's great for practicing and playing 'as loud as I want' without bothering my neighbors. Yet sounds as realistic as the keyboard itself :)

I have to say that they are very smooth, I really feel totally isolated and with the microphone works pretty well.

My new puppy chewed up my 1st set. I bought a different brand and returned them. I ordered these again because the attachment fits my piano, my laptop and my phone. I would buy again and again.

Best I've EVER HEARD

By Alex Dickson from Lawton, OK USA on September 3, 2012 Music Background: Hobbyist working to pro

I've listened to quite a few different headphones from ear-buds to headsets mainly for consumer listening purposes, but I've tried a couple for music creation purposes and NOTHING compares to the quality of these for the price. After you try these nothing else will sound as good anymore LOL I'd also like to say, Thanks again, Mr. Jason Koons

I needed a clearer set of headphones without a breaking bank price, and as always Sweetwater comes through with these. Nice clear sound, with a solid price.

High quality sound.

By Lucas Pieraccini from Phoenix, AZ on April 14, 2020

This item came with my Korg Kross 2 synthesizer, and frankly I wasn't sure what to expect as far as audio quality, but I was completely blown away by the product I received. The audio is extremely high definition with excellent sound separation between different notes and instruments. The headset does not embellish the audio played through it in any way, and it is slightly light on the base. This makes it perfect for mixing (what I need) as well as casual listening to an extent as I found myself noticing elements of songs I missed on other devices. While perhaps not quite as enjoyable to casually listen on as my expensive Bose earbuds, the sound quality was very close and certainly much better for mixing. I knocked off half a star because the construction quality did not feel excellent, although it was not concerning.

great for price

Can't complain about a solid, inexpensive headphone. I would like it to cancel more outside noise but ....

Best for the money.

Soild buy

By Pearce A Bobadilla on November 10, 2019 Music Background: Prog Metal

Bought these along with the Line 6 Helix LT with the intention of recording and mixing/mastering my music with them. They express a punchy mid section with refined trebs and tight, hanging lows. Physically, they are somewhat awkward to wear in that the bottom of the speakers point outward and don't fit snug to the sides of my head even when the length is adjusted. With that being said I'm a very slim guy so I'm sure most people would feel quite comfortable wearing them. The durability of these things is also great. For the price, the SRH240A closed-back headphones are a very solid buy!

Cheap feeling, but great sound

By Ian from Seattle on July 21, 2019 Music Background: Podcasting/Voice acting

These are pretty spartan headphones - they're plastic-y feeling, the headphone cable feels cheap, and I feel like they might break if I step on them, but they're surprisingly comfortable considering - and also they sound great. Easily on par with a (better built) pair that cost twice as much. We used these for monitoring a recent 3 hour performance, and even the pickiest performer was fine with their comfort, so that should say something (they usually hate headphones, over-ear as well as in-ear)

Overall, pretty far up the "no-frills" headphone totem poll. If you're looking for something that's cheap, sounds great, is comfortable, and you don't care about literally anything else, these are probably for you.

Great Phones, except...

By Craig from NW Ohio on March 11, 2017 Music Background: 40+year keyboard musician, arranger, composer

I purchased a pair of these about 1.5 years ago. These phones are reasonably comfortable when worn for long periods and have the typical great Shure sound. Now for the "except". I was rather surprised to find that when using the phones, if you move about much at all, you will notice the plastic portions of the frame creaking and cracking rather loudly. More than enough to be a distraction. Since I am a keyboard player, there is plenty of upper body movement and head movement to create this condition while playing. So, if you're using these phones for critical listening or the occasional mixdown, these should be fine. But beware, and try them out first if you're a performing musician using them for monitoring.

Wonderful

By Dave from Ft. Wayne on February 17, 2014 Music Background: Producer/DJ

For the value, these are great headphones.. the bass could be a tad louder but the things sound great.. i use them in my amateur studio and to play out... they work very well.

Nice headphones

By Sister Kay Kay, SSS from Waterville, ME USA on March 29, 2012 Music Background: Music Minister & songwriter who records my own demos

The headphones look good & fit well. I was suspicious of the thin wires, having experienced theose airline & other cheap headphones crack up after a few times of use. But I notice from the catalog that all seem to have thin wires, even the high end phones as also some Yamaha phones that I use to practice the big organ in Chapel--and they have to be over 20 years old! So far so good with these; here's hoping. The service was great, as also the advice from the Sales Engineer, Charlie Davis.

Very pleased!

By Vinny L from New York on January 13, 2012 Music Background: Musician and audiophile.

Excellent headphones. Great clarity and very comfortable. Used daily with an iPod. The have an excellent range; nice booming bass and super crisp highs. Awesome headphone, especially for the price.

Flimsy Design but decent sound

By Ernest Buckley from Brooklyn, NY on June 10, 2015 Music Background: Professional Musician

I purchased these headphones for my son to use when he played his keyboard but he also got a pair of Beats from a relative so the Shure 240As took a back seat and were designated to family use and occasional studio use. These phones have a nice sound which is really surprising for the price but what annoyed me to no end was that the plastic head band makes a cracking noise whenever you move so if you record with them, you`re going to hear the headphones crackling… this is really awful. But again, good overall balanced sound and for this price… and comfortable. I would not depend on these for mixing because they do tend to lean on the bright side for my tastes but they are a good for pure listening.

Creaks and rattles, not worthy of Shure name.

By Sweetwater Customer from San Francisco, CA on February 14, 2023 Music Background: Broadcaster

I don't like the build quality. Hard to read the L and R indication. Don't like the v-style cable. The sound is OK not stunning. I hear lots of rattles and creaking from the earpieces. I got these mostly for the external sound suppression and it's OK at that. Wouldn't buy again but I'm too lazy to return, and these are not for my critical use anyway. (just to verify audio in a loud environment)

Do not disturb thy neighbors

By Jon Sabo from VIRGINIA BEACH, VA on January 20, 2022

I purchased this product in order to crank the volume when I feel the need without disturbing the neighbors or my wife..lol
The headphones are fairly comfortable, but the sound quality is so-so. I guess I should look at making an investment in better-quality headphones. It's true You get what you paid for.

Good for price

By Sweetwater Customer from Muncie, IN on November 15, 2013 Music Background: Student, Recording Engineer, Musician

They are great for the price, but they could be better. I have a small dip behind my ears where my jaw bone is so they are not very tight on the ears and there is some sound leakage (they sound better if you press them against your head.) They are good quality and accurate, but I think the design could be better. The double cable is a little annoying too. I wish it had a removable cable, the left ear stopped working today and I am assuming it is a cable problem.

I tried to save a couple of bucks & got exactly what I deserved

By Bill from L.A. on December 5, 2022

The headphones sounded clear on the noids & high end of things. I was very aware of my panning which I liked. Clarity Yes, but no low end. I tried listening to an EDM mix I did & could barely hear the kick at all.

I have a Kids YouTube channel so I record a lot of kids vocals.I was looking for a low cost alternative to the Sennheisers I use. Why? Because I find it just amazing how abusive kids can be with a set of headphones. I should also note that the cord is super thin. I don't think these would last for more than 1 or 2 sessions here.

Definitely a consumer grade product. I look forward to plugging them into my I-phone the next time I'm forced to sit around in an airport, waiting for a plane that's late, to go to a gig I don't want to go to in the first place.

Shure SRH240A Closed-back Headphones

By Sweetwater Customer on September 14, 2017

I was absolutely shocked how cheap these Shure headphones are. They look nice in the picture but don't be fooled. They are all plastic and very uncomfortable. Even the cushion padding for your ears is uncomfortable. They sound so-so and frankly I am amazed that Shure would put their name on them. I've owned plenty of Shure products in my life time and have found their products, that I have purchased, to be of top quality.
They were part of a bundle and in my opinion one of the downsides of purchasing products on line. If I had the ability to test prior to buying, like you would at a Best Buy, I would have left them on the shelf.
Very disappointed. 1 star is being generous.

Terrible headphones

By Moore Huffman from Los Angeles, CA on November 12, 2015 Music Background: Tracking engineer and sound designer.

Working in studios my whole life I've used a lot of headphones, and have owned a lot as well. These are terrible headphones all around. They are particularly bad for tracking because they don't sit snug against your ears, and so you get a lot of bleed as a result. When it comes to tracking, I'll sacrifice comfort over mix bleed any day. The SRH240A is really lacking in low end to my ears as well. I'm not a bass junkie either. I like a nice honest balanced headphone. The low end in these is a joke.

If you want really good tracking headphones in a similar price range I would recommend the Sennheiser HD205II. They sound way better, and they are super snug on your ears which is of course what you want for tracking.
