Incredible Vintage Sound and Great Service!

By Silvia from Gilroy, CA
Music Background: Bassist

I got it last year after eyeing it for a while. I love the sound Lady Ibanez is producing. Together with my GK Legacy 210 amp, it sounds very vintage, almost like an upright bass. I had her custom set up, lower strings and it was perfectly executed. The issue I had, the bass went in and out and we noticed that there was sth. wrong with the jack - connector. I had warranty, Sweetwater sent the package material and I shipped the bass off to them. They repaired it, and every since, had no issues anymore. Love this bass!

Love this bass..

By Jeffrey W. from SLIDELL, LA

It's by far not the most expensive bass that I own. But I seriously love the way that it plays. The neck is super thin and fast. The bass has a nice weight to it. Not too heavy, not to light zero neck dive. And if you can't find a sound with these pick ups maybe you're a tone snob..Money well spent.

It’ great bass!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional. All scar tissue.

As a professional bassist, I typically choose my bass based on the gig and set lists, and the Ibanez SR600E has become a reliable option in my rotation. It stands out for its combination of quality, tone, and playability, and it has the versatility to adapt to a wide range of musical needs, though there are a few aspects to consider.

Build Quality & Design:
The SR600E boasts a sleek, ergonomic design with a lightweight ash body, making it comfortable for extended gigs and studio sessions. The natural finish is eye-catching, and the five-piece jatoba/walnut neck provides excellent stability and a smooth playing surface. That said, the neck's slim profile, while ideal for speed and intricate fingerwork, might feel too thin for players who prefer a chunkier neck, especially for certain styles.

Tone & Electronics:
The SR600E excels in tonal versatility, featuring Nordstrom Big Break pickups and a three-band EQ that allow for a wide range of sounds. The custom electronics give precise control over tone, which is great for tailoring your sound to different genres. However, the complexity of the setup might be overwhelming for those who prefer simpler, more straightforward controls, especially when quick adjustments are needed during a gig.

Playability:
The SR600E is known for its smooth, fast neck, making it easy to move across the fretboard. The low action is perfect for quick, fluid playing, though it might feel too low for players who prefer more resistance or a heavier playing style. This could be a consideration when selecting a bass for specific sets or genres.

Versatility:
One of the SR600E's strongest points is its versatility, which makes it a solid choice for a variety of musical genres. Whether you're playing jazz, rock, funk, or something else, this bass has the versatility to handle it all. However, this broad capability might come at the expense of a distinct tonal character, potentially making it feel a bit generic in certain settings. Depending on the set list, you might opt for a bass with a more specialized sound for specific gigs.

Conclusion:
The Ibanez SR600E is an excellent all-around bass with impressive tone, playability, and versatility. Its slim neck, complex electronics, and low action might not suit every player or every gig, but if these aspects align with your preferences, it's a fantastic choice. For those who, like me, select their bass based on the demands of the gig and set list, the SR600E offers a reliable, adaptable option that has the versatility to meet a wide range of musical challenges.

Need a Swiss Army knife?

By P. R. from Denver CO
Music Background: Part time bassist, Ibanez fan.

This bass has beautiful tone, passive or active! The premium "Big Break" pickups coupled with the ash body & incredibly flexible EQ should wow any bassist, no matter your musical style. It sounds phenomenal with a chorus effect! The build quality is incredibly good, the slim neck is beautifully finished and comfortable. It came perfectly set up by Sweetwater's technicians. I've only found one high (or low) fret at the E-9 position... otherwise perfect.
If you need a bass that will do it all at a great price point, this is the one!

Very good for the price

By SKD from Waterbury, VT
Music Background: Cover rock bands for 30+ years

Most of my bass guitars are in the $1,500-$2,500 range, so I really didn't know what to expect when I purchased this one. I know someone who purchased an Ibanez guitar that was in this price range and I was impressed with the quality and playability of that one, so I decided to give this a try. I must say I'm very impressed with how well this is made, especially for this price. It plays great and was set up nicely. The Nordstrand pick ups are very impressive, and combined with the 3-band EQ there are a ton of different tones you can achieve. I personally think it is well suited for rock/heavy rock. You can get a great low end, big sound that fits heavy music nicely. I very rarely play slap but I personally feel this bass doesn't shine for that style, not like a Fender American Jazz. All-in-all very impressive for the price point!

VALUE and Playability

By Logan
Music Background: Born and raised with music as a focus. Now in a ban with friends and playing bass.

I want to keep this short and simple, but it won't be easy. This bass has that fast Ibanez feel, with great parts and materials, as well as a level of quality control sometimes missing from even the higher end instrument makers out there. All, while coming in at a reasonable price (especially, in light of current inflation). The 5-piece neck with its satin/natural wood finish feels so good and "real" in the hand that it's hard to explain. The body is bluer in person. At least mine is, but it's a good thing. The knobs and tuning pegs all feel great, and I love the bird strand pickups. On that note, this is one of, if not THE, most inexpensive basses that Ibanez offers in their premium tier, and therefore has them come equipped with the Nordstrand Big Breaks. Definitely a higher end pickup than what one would find in a number of higher end (cost) alternatives. Anyway, I should quit gushing and get to sleep, but this is the most enjoyable instrument I may have ever played. Note: I also put tape wounds on it.

Beautiful bass right out of the box from Sweetwater. The Nordstrands have really good punch, but also excellent tone. The bass itself is great quality, smooth, fast neck, with great fit and finish. This bass is an absolute breeze to play. Excellent and fast service/shipping from Sweetwater. If you like the Ibanez SR line, you'll love this bass!
