Best Vocal Mic

I had the awesome privilege of winning this mic in a contest (not from sweetwater unfortunately, but I buy a lot from sweetwater) and this is by far the best vocal mic I have ever heard. First off, the gain response on this thing is just ridiculous. Secondly, this truly is a High Definition microphone for whatever application. I have used it to mic a grand piano (I know, not an ideal set up for properly micing a piano) and it preformed surprisingly well. Primarily I use it for my vocals at church and it sounds so much better than the beta 58's and 87's that we use. If you have the opportunity to own one of these don't hesitate.

The elusive Earthworks brand

When you mention Earthworks, you sometimes hear "Oh, well, they make drum mics right?" or "they're those live sound mics I think..." but for the most part, they have no idea who Earthworks are. Earthworks are a very prestigious brand, but not a popular brand and there is a very simple reason why: They make honest mics. *Honesty, in general, is always respected but never popular. I have had several people try out my SR40V since I got it, and not one person has said "WOW This mic sounds AMAZING!" In fact, it usually gets bad reception. The sad reality though, is that these people just aren't pristine singers... and this mic made that abundantly clear. In fact, funny enough, when I first used it, I did not like it. But when I really focused my voice to be on point, it would shine -- equivalent to how much I myself shine. So when I sing well, I am rewarded with pure clarity of that. When I sing poorly, I am punished with the same clarity. I do not recommend these to people who do not take their singing seriously. This is a flat, honest microphone, from a brand that takes HONESTY very seriously. If it sounds amazing, Earthworks will capture it.

Hands Down The Greatest Live Vocal Mic Ever Designed

This is by far the greatest live mic ever designed.  I work daily with nearly every instrument, from acoustic/electric guitar, trumpet, flute, sax, violin, percussion and voice.  It doesn't matter what you put this mic in front of...it's just breathtaking.  I have used Earthworks SR40s since their release a year and a half ago and I can tell you that the V model has everything the standard 40 has but with a touch more presence and 'live' sparkle to it. The feel and the weight are very nice and no worries about popping. It's also fantastically feedback resistant. The proximity effect is beautiful without being overly boomy. Like all Earthworks this thing has a crazy amount of gain. Every drop of sweat is communicated to the audience with extreme clarity.  It allows the performer to express his/her artistry in ways no other mic does.  I've used practically every live mic on the market and this is the pinnacle of engineering...there is no finer.  Don't even think twice about adding one to your rig....worth every penny.  Bravo to the engineering team in NH....can't wait for the wireless version!
