Roland Octapad SPD-30 - Black
Roland Octapad SPD-30 - Black Reviews
Roland's powerful Octapad drum controller makes a great drum/percussion instrument on its own, and its versatility makes it an essential for both electronic and acoustic drummers! Loaded with over 670 instruments arranged in 50 kits (plus effects), the Octapad features eight large touch-sensitive pads, an easy-to-use interface, a hi-hat controller, a Phrase Loop function, and USB connectivity. Trigger inputs allow you to use it with acoustic drums, or you can stand mount the Octapad and use it to augment your kit in the studio or onstage.
New for
Roland Rules the Roost
The Octapad has been out for decades. They just keep making it better and better. It is still a staple as an addition to a percussion kit or ensemble. The sounds are phenomenal. The tech is top notch. Not overtly complicated to operate, though it takes a time investment. I've had several pieces of Roland equipment over the years, and they are always reliable, robust and bring satisfaction to the user.
Should have bought this in the first place
I sold my SPD-SX to buy the SPD-30. The SX just wasn't working for me and the SPD-30 is perfect for my application. My sales engineer Patrick Weaver always takes good care of me. Ordered the SPD-30 on Friday and was using it the following Monday morning. Thanks Pat!
Excellent piece of percussive hardware!!
I'm very happy with the Octapad, so many things I can do with this. I don't have room for a kit at the present, but with this little beauty I'm able to jam and record as well as practice in a completely different way. I can't wait to add a complete kit to it...
Many years of the sod-30
This thing has pad for itself 30 times over and it still is so useful in so many applications ! I have had many octapads over 40 something years but this is obviously still such a great "work horse" I look forward to the next gen of the octapad !
Roland octopad
Incredible! Definitely a worthwhile investment for your percussion needs. Be advised it can be a bit overwhelming with all the applications and possibilities this octopad can do. Once you get to exploring the functions and familiarize ones self with the controls it's a breeze. I use it to create a hybrid kit with my acoustic drums. Bottom line is I'm very happy with the purchase. Enjoy!
Octapad
I was skeptical at first, before bringing it home. I am very happy with the Octapad now that I have owned it for a month.
Not that great.
Having invented the Octapad some 30 years ago, I was expecting a lot more from Roland in this device. The quality of sounds leaves a lot to be desired. The Roland S-770 sampler series have so many features, more of them should have been built in to this sound engine. The pads are not sensitive enough, the PAD series Octapads were actually more sensitive. This one should have been better, not worse than its predecessor. The user interface is not bad, quick and easy to use, but that's the only more positive part of it. It feels like a lightweight, inexpensively made device that should have been much better. At its price, it doesn't feel like a value, nor like a Roland product. Instead it feels like an overpriced unauthorized copy of one.
What I have waited for. Almost a drum set!
I have been playing for two days now, all day through monitors and all night with headphones!
It is eight pads that have great feel and adjustable response. Videos online explain it all: loops, phrases, editing... But just out of the box it had me laughing and amazed at what it can do.
Sweetwater knows I send stuff back I do not like, this stays and I will add a couple of footswitches to make it 99 drum sets with kick and hi hat.
Octapad Review
I have not used this percussion controller for very long, but as I get more accustomed to it, and begin to experiment with the various sounds and effects, it is certainly becoming a very nice piece of equipment. I am coupling this with the handsonic controller that I also have.
This is great because I can use sticks instead of just my hands.
So with a kick trigger and hi hat trigger I have a nice little "George Jetson" drumset, with many more sounds than I could carry instruments for.
I also am looking forward to expanding the unit with a couple of V cymbals, and a snare pad.
So I would highly recommend this percussion controller.
