Best travel guitar made.... all EQs, effects, aux input an earphone out make this the most versatile guitar I have ever owned.... well worth the money!

My wife says it’s not silent

By Timothy Webb from The Dalles, OR on June 27, 2023 Music Background: Guitar junkie

I purchased this as a travel guitar, I have other guitars but nothing as light and compact as this. Looks cool, or odd, take your pick but this is a great guitar. First the wood, beautiful and lustrous is how I would describe it, and under the hood there is nice effects to liven up your playing time.
The rosewood fretboard feels great and looks as good as it feels.
The guitar arrived perfectly set up, action was great and intonation was spot on. Yamaha did themselves proud with this instrument.
Sweetwater makes sure when you get your guitar it is well packaged and safe from harm while being shipped to its customers.

Love this guitar and love Sweetwater, what's not to love…

Awesome guitar for the money.

Bought my SLG2000S from Sweetwayer after a friend told me about his. Decided to go with steel string model. Love the guitar and how it plays, nice neck and action. Sweetwater did a great job answering my questions and inspecting the guitar prior to shipment. Just bought a portable amp from Sweetwater to complement the guitar and use also with my Takimine. You can't go wrong with this guitar!

You won't find a better travel guitar

By Leonard from Atlanata, GA on October 14, 2022 Music Background: 1st year learning an instrument

I travel for work so I needed a practice guitar that is (1) balanced and comfortable to play, (2) full scale length, (3) easily transportable, (4) quiet enough to play/practice with in a hotel room without disturbing other guest, and (5) sounds good. This guitar does all of that and so much more.

I put balanced and fun to play 1st on my list for a reason, I tried several other travel guitars before buying this one and none of them come close to matching the Yamaha SLG200S for balance and playability. I am in my late 1st year of learning to play and all the other travel guitars I tried are so light and unbalanced that I dreaded practicing with them and when practicing with any of my other guitars I really enjoy my practice time. My wife thinks I am obsesses with learning guitar but I just really enjoy this learning guitar journey and typically practice a couple hours/day.

I have found the built in electronics to be great, the placement of the connection ports and controls is well thought out and everything about this guitar makes it the perfect travel/practice guitar for me. It is also beautiful to look at.

A couple more key things I love about it (1) the width of the saddle is the same as my full size Taylors, which makes practicing finger style so much more comfortable than the other travel guitars I purchased, they were 1/4" narrower at the saddle (2) being able to plug in my phone/tablet to the guitar and run practice routines and backing tracks directly through the guitar to my headphones without any Bluetooth lag.

I can't recommend this guitar enough, my only regret is not buying it when I first started learning guitar.

Yamaha SilentGuitar

By Delbert Hart from Pelzer SC on October 11, 2022 Music Background: 58 year playing guitar plus mandoline bass dobro uke banjo lap steel some drums and fiddle. Presently I am lead guitarist in our church praise and worship band.

I have purchased several guitars from Sweetwater over the past few years. Matt Emick has always been helpful with my choices and some returns.I recently purchased a Yamaha silent guitar mainly for practice at home. I have been useing it with head phones which really sounded great. Just yesterday I took it instead of one of my other guitar to praise team practise and also an outdoor event.I used it in two different amps and I was blown away with the sound with just a little adjustment it was what I wanted to hear.I recommend this guitar and Sweetwater to all my music friends. Thanks for all you do.

The best travel guitar on the market! Highly recommend!

By Bill Kelley from Santa Ana, CA on September 13, 2022 Music Background: Performer

Yamaha knocked it out the park with this guitar! Perfect for travel or just for practicing at home without disturbing the neighbors! Easily assembled and easy to store in it's own special made gig bag (included)! Best part is the sound and the effects you can use with your amp or through headphones (included as well!) I was so impressed I bought the Cherry Red nylon string version as well! Highly recommended!

Grab and go guitar with quality and looks

By Brian T from Cincinnati on July 9, 2021

I've been looking at this guitar for quite a while and finally purchased one. It's incredibly comfortable and folds down for easy transport. I like the fact that it LOOKS like a real guitar and holds like one as most of the guitars like this heavily modify the body shape to make it portable. People do a double take because they first recognize it as a guitar and then look back because it's a bit of a mind game - looks like a regular guitar shape, but the body is missing. Most people want to hold it when it's out just to see if it's as light as it looks.

Fit and finish is really professional. For a guitar that's intended for practice and private playing, the details are really well done. Corners are crisp and clean, the finish is really smooth and consistent and it's good enough to use at performances.

The sound it puts out is pretty impressive. The reverb built into the electronics can quickly get pretty heavy and the tone is completely customizable right from the guitar. Some songs require more bass and some more treble - it's all possible from the guitar control panel. The tuner is really accurate in this guitar as well.

As usual, Jeff R. at Sweetwater was awesome getting this done and getting it to me. Another amazing guitar purchase from Sweetwater!

Stylish and Comfortable... Improved from previous generation...

By Tom The Guitar Guy from SoCal on February 2, 2021 Music Background: Gigging and Recording Musician

Had the previous Silent Guitar and thought that it sounded good...

The SLG200S has a comfortable neck and the new pickup/mic blend is an added bonus...

I like that it has a fret marker on the side of the fret board at the 9th fret - I know sounds weird, but the SLG200N Nylon String version doesn't have it so it jumps from 7th to 12th (no fret markers on the fretboard like most classical style guitars)...

I always joke to the audience that maybe after a few more shows I can afford the rest of the Guitar...

Tobacco Sunburst finish looks great and is a duplicate to my SLG200N...

Best travel guitar so far

By Ryan from New Mexico, USA on December 23, 2020 Music Background: Owner of many fine guitars

I have two other travel guitars, one I hate (Martin backpacker) and one ha is okay (travelcaster). I really like this guitar. The neck was a little rough when I received it, but a little sanding fixed that. It's nice to play sitting next to my wife without bothering her. Had I spent a little extra and bought this one earlier, I'd never have purchased the other two.

So glad I ordered from Sweetwater

By Will from Arizona on August 2, 2020 Music Background: Picking up guitar again after 30 years!

I've used Sweetwater at work when we needed sound equipment. Didn't really expect the same professional service when I ordered my guitar for the same price as other (cheap) online places.

The Yahama SLG200S is a godsend. I'm now able to play everyday again for the first time since high school, thanks to the ability to play quietly without bothering anyone. I really enjoy the ability to play with different acoustic settings to fit the song and the mood.

The SLG200S feels a tad smaller than a standard size guitar, but not by much. The upside is that it's way easier to carry it around.

A Must Have Guitar.

By Sweetwater Customer on May 12, 2020

This Guitar is amazing. Sounds and feels great. I love playing it. The people at Sweetwater are so nice. This was the second guitar I purchased on-line with them. Good prices, and customer service. Words don't express. Thanks Guys!

Simple Fix for loose strap buttons on SLG200

By Jennifer "JJ" Jeffries from St. Pete, FL on December 5, 2019 Music Background: 60 years playing guitar, including 25 years performing. I'm now retired, and play for pure enjowment.

I just recently purchased my new SLG200S from Sweetwater(my favorite online store!!)...and like others have experienced -- the strap button that also secures the upper bout to the frame worked loose when a strap was attached. Here's the simple fix: Get two small rubber washers -- 1/2 inch diameter with a 1/4 inch center hole and 1/16 inch thick...slide them over the threads on the strap button, then reattach to the guitar -- snug them down tightly -- and no more strap button loosening. I bought mine at Ace Hardware - 45 cents each.

As for the guitar -- I absolutely am enjoying mine, and it sounds really good through my Yamaha THR10C amp, also purchased from Sweetwater(special shoutout and thanks to my sales engineer - Jim Black!).

Worth tweaking

By Douglas Baxter from Rockwall, TX on June 10, 2019

Before buying the SLG200S, I read many reviews, watched videos, etc. Most of the reviews and opinions I have seen online were all positive so I decided to get one and give it a try.

Here are my findings:

Pros
Build quality is excellent (I expected this from Yamaha)
Design is sleek, it truly is a beautiful instrument
Sound is totally usable (after tweaking with EQ, adding compression and reverb with pedals)
Easy to play (after adjusting the truss rod and changing to light gauge strings, Elixr 10s)
Pricepoint is affordable
Quiet (if you need it to be)
Excellent for solos and fingerpicking
No feedback!
Compact

Cons
Upper body frame can start to dig into your arm after a while (not a deal breaker though)
Headphone output can sound a little distorted and muddy when playing chords aggressively

I really wanted to like this instrument so I took the time to tweak the sound and made minor adjustments to the guitar itself, and now I am really happy with it. I play this through an HX Stomp going into a Magnatone Varsity and it sounds great. All in all, I would recommend this guitar to a friend.

Followup From Feb. 17. SLG 200s

By Paul Dustman from Oklahoma City, OK on March 4, 2019

After a couple of days of use, and the heavy bass from the low E string, I decided that the factory strings were Medium Gage, much too heavy for this guitar. I replaced them with a set of my favorite strings; Eric Clapton Phosphor/Bronze Light Gage. Solved the problem. Plays much better now. I still rate it a 5.0.

I own many Guitars. Mostly high end Martins and Taylor's. I have only been Impressed by Martin and Taylor. But this guitar. out of the box, blew me away. It has now become my "Go-To" Guitar. I don't play many electrics except for my Fender Strat EC,. I need to adjust my guitar amp to lower the bass. Good job Yamaha!

After a lot of back and forth on this I decided to take the chance and wow am I glad I did. This thing is amazing. The sound quality is great through the headphones or the amp and it plays like a dream. If you are thinking about buying this , do it.

WOW!!!!!!

After sixty years of playing different styles and shapes of some great, and not so great guitars, you say "what the @":$?" You say how can this sound any good? First impressions really are misleading. I can"t believe this has been out for almost twenty years and I am just playing this now. I took a chance in investing in this and can happily say I did good! Try one!

Great guitar

By FLOYD HARLAN from Washington on October 11, 2016

Been playing this almost every night. I work a mid swing shift. So, there's lot's of times I need to unwind after work and this guitar works great . Quiet enough that I don't wake up the people in the other apartments, or my girlfriend if she's sleeping.

Sounds better than expected...

By Will Thomas from Cinti on April 29, 2016

Sounds better than expected and it really looks good. The Yamaha SLG200S really feels and plays like an acoustic guitar. I am tempted to by the nylon string version in the future. Hey, Mark T. thanks for your help. I got my guitar 2 days after ordering.

A pleasant surprise

By SmokinBuddha on March 9, 2016

I got a lot of nice acoustic guitars at home, but usually I won't find the time to practice with my schedule. When I want to play at night, it's usually too late and don't want to wake up anyone or disturb my neighbors, since I live in an apartment. So, I was looking at the Yamaha SLG200S, which is the latest model. I didn't expect the guitar to be this good! Playing the Yamaha SLG200S is very easy and fun to play, I find it very hard to put down. The sound of the guitar is even better than I expected, since I didn't think it would sound good! Anybody looking for a guitar to play late at night or a traveling guitar, give the Yamaha SLG200S a serious look.

Perfect Live Guitar Partner

By Rowe Cierras from Louisville, KY on September 18, 2020

So I've had this silent guitar for over a year now and might be best to give my opinion and review on this fantastic guitar. I am using it mainly on our live worship team and have gotten many positive compliments. When I first got her the action was a bit high for me so I bought some spare bridge nut on Yamaha website and grinded it down to my preference. Sound is decent. You can dial sounds between P.U. - MIC on the Blend knob. I'm really digging the built-in effects but it consumes a lot of power from your battery. So do yourself a favor, buy the power supply (wish it was included on the package). Batts on live, power supply on practice. IMHO. Neck is smooth as butter. All in all she's a beautiful and dependable instrument.

Nice

By Donald Threadgill from Burns, OR on September 13, 2018

Due to my impatience I thought the guitar was initially defective, you have to hold the power button about a second, got through that, then initially I didn't care too much for the sound, after awhile of playing the sound grew on me.

Gave some serious thought to sending back the guitar because of the finish
it should have been scratch and glue free, I just don't want the hassle of return when it sounds so good

I think my other guitars are jealous

Pro's
Beautiful to look at nicely balanced
Excellent sounding
Really solid
The guitar is fun to play
The setup was excellent
Seems to stay in tune

Con's
Finish had light scratches
and some glue spill over
The tuner is a hassle to use, I'll stick with my chromatic tuner

Using it for gigs instead of my Taylors

By The Invisible Man from Houston on May 6, 2018 Music Background: Professional for 50 years, solo pro for 20

While I liked the aesthetics of this guitar right away, what really convinced me to try it was the YouTube videos that had such nice sounds coming out of this guitar. While most players seemed to gravitate to the nylon string, I thought the steel string was more convincing.

When I got it, I was very impressed with the build quality. Intonation was the typical Yamaha dead on right. It took me a while to begin to get comfortable because my Taylor T5s have lower action, flatter neck radius and plays lower to the body. This feels much more like an acoustic than the Taylors. After having my guitar tech do some fairly minor tweaking, it plays 100% better and has an overall feel that I am beginning to like more than the Taylors.

To address what has been brought up in this thread: Yes, the upper bout thumbscrew loosens from movement on your strap; not sure why they let this get by them and become an issue. Yes, it does seem to have a bass bias but I found that easily overcome using less mic model and more piezo, plus rolling off the bass. Overall, this is easier to get a true acoustic sound than any acoustic-electric I've ever played...and I've been playing them since the late 80s.

I play bare hand, a classical technique using picado for single lines. This guitar is much better for that and in fact, I could play some lines easily that were hard to execute on the Taylors. I found the neck quite comfortable despite being considerably chunkier than the Taylor.

I am not real crazy about the onboard reverbs. While the algorithms are pretty nice, the settings are hard to tame and sound over-the-top for most songs. I use a Neunaber Immerse pedal for basic reverb and the guitar set to dry with the pedal sounds absolutely killer. The onboard chorus, which I normally don't like, is actually useful and I use it combined with the Neunaber pedal. This is in relation to external out to a PA. Through headphones the reverbs are quite nice, just don't hold us as well when amplified.

I have started using it on my solo gigs and so far I am just short of thrilled with it. I don't know if Yamaha decided halfway through this project to pitch it as a pro gigging instrument instead of a practice guitar. In the right hands, this guitar can clearly sit next to any great gigging guitar, no doubt about it. I am looking forward to learning the nuances of it on more gigs before recording with it. It should be a gas...

PS this is the first Sweetwater Music purchase I've made and I am floored by the level of service and attention to the customer. Patrick, my sales rep, was great and I will ask for him again on future buys. I have bought from every major plus mom and pop stores and Sweetwater's service is lightyears ahead of anything I've ever experienced. Hats off to Chuck and the business model he has put in place. It is an amazing level of service and I'm a customer for life from here on in...

Sounds of Silence

By Michael Ghitelman from New York City on September 27, 2017

Far exceeds my expectations for a lightweight convenient travel instrument. Beautiful build, very intelligent design and excellent sound. Playability very comparable to a standard guitar. The removable bout snugs into the body effortlessly, from gig bag to playing in seconds. Chorus/reverb provides real life resonance.
Highly recommended.

Limited as a performace tool

By Dale Dickerson from Marshfield, WI on December 15, 2021

I have found the output of this instrument to be shrill and thin. promises of rich acoustic tone are missing in action. I have 6 acoustic amps and as many pa systems and can't fine a tome from this guitar to backup a singer.
if looking for a rich acoustic tone get the real thing. I will be selling mine and in the future avoid the Yamaha hipe about this guitar.

Wish I'd had one 50 years ago!

By William P Kennedy from Altoona Pennsylvania on March 30, 2021 Music Background: Play guitar and sing since 1971

I've been playing this guitar for about a month now so this is my experience with the slg so far. I was in need of a convenient easy to use guitar to practice without disturbing other household members. So I ordered a Yamaha slg200s tobacco sunburst from the Sweetwater guitar gallery. I picked out one with a very nice wood figuring. I had Sweetwater install a bone nut and saddle and elixir nanoweb 10-46 80-20 strings with my preferred setup. The slg is a joy to play setup like this. I can literally play for hours with no hand or finger pain. The sustain is superb as the slg is built basically like a Les Paul or sg with a set neck mahogany neck and body. The intonation is very good as notes and chords sound good up and down the fretboard. My guitar has the usual Yamaha quality workmanship with well finished frets and no apparent defects that I can see. To me a very
lovely but odd looking guitar! The tuning machines are not 18-1 ratio like my ll16d and are harder to turn and not quite as sensitive but once in tune this guitar stays in tune very well. My only real complaint is the high e string is a little weak compared to the other strings. Might try an 11 string on the high e to see if it might get it in better balance. Possible the very lite string is not being picked up by the srt modeling properly. I've found the effects useful for my purposes. Comes with a pretty decent gig bag also. I would say it would be pretty indestructible other than the the control knobs are tiny and look like they could break fairly easily but no problem so far. This guitar doesn't have acoustic tone like my ll16d but it does have a good useable tone. Also there are going to be no feedback issues with the slg for live band performing. I have my guitar strap attached to the headstock as that minimizes the neck diving tendencies of the light weight body. Also bought the Yamaha power supply for home practice. I got around 5-6 hours on the 2 aa b atteries which is pretty good imo. All in all i highly recommend the slg200s a as perfect practice guitar. I can plug in my alesis drum machine, plug in my Akgk240 studio earphones and practice any time without disturbing anyone. That alone is worth the price. As always Sweetwater is super easy to deal with. These guitars are not perfect but this modeling tech is getting better and I can't wait to see the next generation of these silent guitars!

My guitar and I had some issues to work out... We're good now.

By Gil from San Francisco on November 30, 2018 Music Background: Many years, mostly self-taught. Performing amateur. Former band leader (six players, Cuban son). Now mostly eclectic soloist, song-writer, singer; originals and covers. Spanish, English, Portuguese...

...So I"m on a tight budget. $... was a big deal to me. I was thrilled to get my Yamaha nylon string. (As usual, SW"s delivery was fast.) But I was quickly disappointed because the intonation was unacceptably off. I spent several days trying to convince myself that it wasn"t that bad, but...it was.

I returned the guitar, specifically requesting that the replacement be spot-on. It was, admittedly better, but still not acceptable. But I didn"t want to go thru the hassle of yet another return. So SW agreed in a heartbeat to reimburse me… for a locally done set-up. (Thank you for that!)

My (really outstanding) tech guy, JL, showed that the bridge is, in his opinion, a tad too far forward, and recommended that I suggest to my SW rep, Chris, that he discuss this with Yamaha, since both my guitars were not up to snuff. JL moved the saddle 3/32" back, and now it"s 99.5% in tune, all strings, all frets! Excellent, by my standard!

Bout bolts: I agree with those who say the bolts loosen quickly and easily. Be careful.

Tuner: Like one other reviewer, I much prefer to use my external tuner (Snark). The built-in tuner is not very friendly; hard to tweek. When the tuner is on it silences the guitar, so your audience doesn"t have to deal with the obnoxiousness...

Power light: OMG. Tiny and dim AF. Can"t even see it when outdoors. I was hoping my replacement guitar would be better, but it"s exactly the same. I don"t understand why. It"s really annoying.

FX: As another person mentioned, the reverb is kind of over the top. Hard to find the exact settings I like. Chorus is fine for my taste.

Mic/Pickup option: My ear isn"t noticing a whole lot of difference yet. Your ear probably will...

Treble/bass: I agree that it"s quite bass-heavy. Going through a board can alleviate this.

Action: Love it! Was the first thing I noticed! Love playing this thing.

Using headphones: Sounds great! Haven"t tried the AUX in yet.

Batteries: Uses two AA. Don"t last as long as I would like, so I keep extras in my case. There are flashing warning lights to let you know that battery failure is coming soon, so you might not get cut off mid-song unexpectedly... Guitar turns on automatically when you connect the cable, so be careful. With the dim light you"ll probably not notice it"s on.

Aesthetics: I thought it might be a little much for my taste -- trendy, too techy looking… whatever. But turns out I like it a lot. Got the tobacco sunburst. Beautiful. In the right light, I notice faint buffing scratches on the finish. Not a big deal, but they shouldn"t be there. I doubt anyone else would ever notice, however.

I just played my first gig with this guitar. I"m really pleased. Up until tonight I was at about a 3.75 star rating in overall satisfaction. But after tonight (I play solo these days) I"m a solid 4+. As I grow into the guitar I won"t be surprised if I eventually rate it a 5. The intonation issue threw me for a loop, though. SW"s 55-pt. Inspection didn"t catch the most crucial feature -- twice in a row!… Seems that no one else has had that issue. But I saw how the nut-to-12th-fret measurement was not a perfect match to the 12th fret to saddle. This is likely the intonation issue, as my tech guy pointed out pretty adamantly. I would be interested if anyone else out there has had the same problem. Don't settle for less than spot-on!

Take-away: After gigging with it (through a complete PA) I"m very happy, and got lots of compliments on the sound (and looks…). $... was a little steep for me, but I have no regrets at this point. As always, I appreciate SW"s customer service and responsiveness. If you"re new to them I"m sure you will be very pleased, as well.

Well...It's Almost Perfect

By Jim Riley from Reston, Virginia on September 10, 2016 Music Background: Hobbyist, Home Recording

I received the Yamaha SLG200S in beautiful Tobacco Sunburst finish recently and absolutely love it. The fit and finish are top-notch and it is a very well-made, sturdy guitar. It sounds amazing, despite the lack of an actual body, and the built-in effects are equally impressive. It is very light and surprisingly very comfortable to play, either sitting down or standing up. Even though it is considered a "travel" guitar, there is no question that it could be used for gigging. There is only one issue with this guitar, which others have also noted: the screws that support the detachable side come loose when a guitar strap is put on it. This is a minor issue, but very annoying. If Yamaha could just fix this one flaw with the guitar, then it would be a solid 5-star instrument.

Received Guitar

By jim shupe from kent, OH on August 8, 2023

Got the guitar in two days packaged good. Inspected guitar and as a demo had a couple light scratches as described, but the strings were disgusting green and black growth on them, I know its a demo but it was played by people with toilet hands, should not have shipped with strings that bad. Also the guitar was tuned to pitch as according to there inspection sheet , I disagree with this practice when transporting a guitar as this can result in damage such as the bridge coming off. When I took the strings off to replace them the nut fell off, not a hint of glue in the slot, really Yamaha? Easy fix but really. Also action on the high side and a very low saddle as mentioned by other people who have reviewed these. There is just enough saddle to get action right. All other functions of guitar worked fine, plays fine neck is good sound is good thru headphones [audio technica ath-m50x] not great but good.

So close!

By Addison Brux from Appleton, WI on March 16, 2018 Music Background: Pro

I received mine one week ago. In true Yamaha fashion, they come SO close to nailing this concept, just not quite. I'll start with what I think they got right:
The electronic/pick-ups sound fantastic, if somewhat "limited". I find the sweet spot in the 50/50 blend range, just above the piezo "quack", and just below the mic's "boomyness". Though the mic sounds fantastic, it has a bit too much low end, even with the base control minimized. In fact, I find myself minimizing the bass control completely, unless using only the pick-up, with no mic. That said, Yamaha delivers on what they offer, sonic wise, as this guitar sounds as good as any acoustic guitar, amplified or mic'd, in my humble opinion. They also hit the "cool factor" in appearance, and intelligent design. This guitar doesn't for an instant try to be anything other then what it is, an instrument that delivers smooth, clean, feed-back free, acoustic tone. I also love the size and weight, it's very, very, comfortable to play.
The shortcomings: When I first opened the case, I initially panicked, thinking the fretboard was actually molded plastic, with painted "frets". Thankfully I was wrong. However, the fretboard, and frets, are decidedly low buck, and wouldn't last long if used as a gigging instrument. Although I've never owned a Yamaha guitar before, maybe this is normal for them. But I think any guitar in this price range should be presumed to be used as a gigging instrument, with a bit more "robust" built in. This in itself doesn't make me regret buying it, the intonation is perfect, and the scale/radius are to my preference.
The controls are a bit small, and hard to see. But I'm an old man, so I attribute some of that to old eyes. In my perfect world, the controls would be a bit larger, and chrome, as opposed to the teeny weeny black nubs they are. That said, as I get used to it, I'm getting better at adjusting the controls by memory, more than sight.
I'm not thrilled with the amp output, though I haven't spent a lot of time playing with out headphones. Seems the signal/noise ratio is off, or perhaps the digital/analog converter, but as it stands now, if I was going to gig with it, I'd be tempted to use the headphone output, to a DI box, as opposed to the amp output.
I'm still very happy with this guitar. I suspect it will become my go-too acoustic now, in that what it does it does very well. I would have paid more for better frets, bone nut and saddle ( they're plastic ), and more robust controls, but these are things I'm likely to do myself, to it, somewhere down the line.

Better Than Expected

It's a crazy thing to look at and given my tendency to shy away from "Fancy New Technology", I didn't have high hopes for this. However, I thought it would fit the bill for practice and travel. I have had it for a month and I have to admit, running it into a compressor and eq pedal, I wouldn't be afraid to play gigs with it. Don't get me wrong. This thing isn't a changed my life kind of instrument, but for the price i would recommend it to anyone to keep for practicing, traveling and playing gigs where you wouldn't want to risk taking an expensive acoustic. The blend feature for the piezo and simulated acoustic is a very useful feature. I have used the external input to practice and jam to songs on my phone....another great feature. The onboard effects aren't the best, but good provided the limited ability to tweak them. This thing is so easy to carry around and store. The best part of this purchase is of course, the service. We can find the same product in a hundred different sites online and several mail order catalogs, but no one takes service, pre or post sale, to the level of Sweetwater. If you are reading this and have never purchased from Sweetwater before.....welcome to the best buying experience you will ever have. They don't sell musical mecrhandise, anyone can do that, they sell you a relationship. One of support, trust and experience. They are a great American company.

Very good, but..

I'm happy with this purchase. But not so much without the additions I put into it. While it's neat as a travel guitar, it stands up as a legit instrument. The trouble is, it doesn't stand up--literally I mean. When you take off the detachable bout and put it in its gig bag, it doesn't stand on end very well. I bought a full size gig bag and leave it assembled so that i can stand it against a wall when not playing. I also bought the Fishman Aura Spectrum system which requires you to just use the under saddle pickup, but it really gives you a lot of sounds. But I have to say I play much more because I'm not reaching over a thich sound box. . .

Disappointed

I wanted to like this instrument. I wanted a feedback resistant, light, easily transportable instrument that convincingly mimicked the sound of a full sized acoustic. It did check all those boxes - but I encountered several problems.

The upper half of the "body" is secured by two thumbwheel screws that also have strap buttons on them to serve as the strap attachments. Even significant hand tightening could not prevent them from loosening during normal play, particularly the one at the upper bout.

The guitar initially felt very stiff and resistant to fingering. I took measurements and the instruments was in significant need of a setup. Not a huge problem, I could easily do this had I decided to keep it, but . . . .

. . . . what was more concerning was the predomination of the B string through the piezo pick up. Again, a problem that can be solved but frankly, I shouldn't have to fix these things to have a usable instrument.

Comfort is another issue, but I understand that this is an individual thing. For me, the neck was a bit chunky and the lower bout where one rests an arm can start to dig in after a while. The lack of a guitar body can take time to get used to, but I chose not to take that time.

In short, it was an irritating instrument to play. I ultimately had to ask myself if I could play this guitar for a four hour gig. The answer was no.
