Made to Make Music
I have always loved innovative guitars! The Yamaha Silent Guitar with nylon strings and narrow neck for steel string guitar players is fantastic. It is highly portable, comes in a special robust gig bag, and is easy to assemble. I found a strap that fits it well. Plugged into an acoustic amp, it has an excellent sound and no feedback. This guitar is stage worthy! I could easily gig with it.
The neck has a flat radius which is standard for a classical guitar. This takes a bit of getting used to, but I am adapting to it well. The guitar's fit and finish are top notch. It is a beautiful instrument.
The Yamaha Silent Guitar is perfect for travel (just pack a Yamaha THR5 modeling amp to accompany it). It is a great office guitar (I routinely teach courses in world music and popular culture). Being able to play "silently" with headphones is a great feature and does not disturb one's office mates, friends, and family. The on board preamp and tuner are splendid. The preamp is powered by 2 AA batteries.
I love playing this guitar and I like the feel and sound of nylon strings. At home, I often play my Cordoba Fusion 12 crossover nylon string guitar (which I also purchased from Sweetwater). The Yamaha Silent Guitar lives in my office. I am delighted with the Yamaha Silent Guitar. It is a welcome addition to my guitar collection.
This is soooooo much fun
The SLG200N is better than I hoped. I am able to practice without driving my wife crazy even though it really isn't totally silent. I live in Arizona and don't have to worry about keeping this guitar hydrated so it is out all of the time.
Yamaha is great, Sweetwater is even better.
The guitar is great, love it. Thanks to Eric for his help.
Amazing little guitar
This is an awesome guitar, I picked mine up used, but wouldn't hesitate paying full price for one. I own several guitars, Breedlove, Gibson electrics, PRS, Fender, Gretsch. This one sits by my bed, if I want to grab a few minutes practicing at night I can easily do it without disturbing anyone else. I get about 8 hours out of the 2xAA batteries on it, The sounds through my Grado SR80 headphones ($90 15 years ago) are phenomenal. The onboard electronics are top notch! I am usually an electric player, but this pushes me in to a different space musically, and nylon strings are so easy on the fingers. This is an excellent product, you wont be disappointed!
One Happy Customer
Love it. Not a great player, yet. This will help me on my way. The sound, the feel, very comfortable, even though I'm accustomed to a thinner neck. It's just fun to play, and we'll shouldn't music be fun. I will leave all the technical stuff to others ( I will say it was ready with just tunning right out the box let it settle a bit and I don't want to put it down. For this purchase I had a pretty clear in vision of what I thought I wanted, to take me to the next level. After plenty of research this fits perfectly. Did I mention the color
Flawless
Gorgeous, light and great sound.
IT IS A THING BEAUTY
Plays like a dream Love the nylon sound Easy to play Looks like a work of art One of the best sounding guitars I've ever played Thanks Andy
Great sound....easy to use!
SLG200N sound greats...really good over ZOOM too...easy to use.
Re. straps, enjoying a light strap that I bought at Sweetwater, and attaching it to the pins with laces and a secured slip knot. Working out very nicely.
A real eye catcher...audiences love the look and the sound.
Yamaha Silent Guitar Nylon
This is a fantastic guitar, especially at this price point. The guitar is solid, well built, and you don't need a lower adapter - The 2 AA batteries last a long time. It plays very well, and has room for adjustments to make it play even better. And the sound is amazing.
I bought it for use in our Church Band - I've always loved the sound of a Classical in contemporary music (Lee Ritenour uses one for rhythm and lead, and it's a nice fit). The problem has been that on stage a Classical just doesn't project. It gets drowned out.
This one lets you crank up the sound as loud as you need to. It works. I'm still adjusting the sound, fine tuning my amp settings, but this is doing exactly what I was after.
The big surprise? It actually has a very nice punch when used with Overdrive. It is a usable sound. Full. Powerful. I originally thought I'd be switching guitars a lot - And I do some. But this is a LOT more flexible than I'd expected.
On top of everything else, it's just a beautiful instrument to look at. I always liked Yamaha's instruments. They did this one right.

Makes Me a Better Player
I've had my SLG200N for awhile now and I feel like this guitar has made me a better player in ways I didn't expect. First off, it feels so natural. But it's the tone, the ability of the system to bring out the little details in each string pluck or strum that lets me hear what I'm doing right and wrong. The clarity and the detail is much deeper than any other guitar I have picked up so far.
The on board tuners make tuning quick and accurate. The fret board feels great and the on board effects let me tailor the tone. My husband complements me every time I play this guitar. And the guitar makes me creative with tone and genre.
I'm using it with Yamaha's THR5 and the two of them work together like they were built for each other. As far as portability, you can't beat a SLG200 and a THR5. These two products make me want to play all day and all night. Love it!
Yamaha SLG200N
Thank you Josh Kattner for helping me through the whole process and making sure the whole experience was not only pleasant but fun. Thank you for following up to make sure I"m happy and I definitely am. The guitar is wonderful. It sounds great amplified or in headphones and plays like guitars three to four times more expensive. In tune all the way up or down the neck. Great action. I can now play sitting right next to my wife while she"s watching tv and not drive her crazy. It also has one side that"s removable to fit very slimly in a nice soft carrying case that comes with it to make it a terrific travel guitar. Sweetwater is first class all the way. They have my business for life. They are the best!
Sets the bar high!
This guitar was everything I expected, and more.
It’s the perfect practice guitar. I can sit in the same room as my family watches TV, and rock out through my headphones without bothering anyone. And when it’s plugged into an amplifier it comes alive with soul and beauty. It has a mellow, warm sound that takes fingerstyle or chord playing to another level.
I also can’t recommend Sweetwater any higher. The sales staff went above and beyond to make my purchase easy and enjoyable. They even called after I received my purchase to make sure everything was to my satisfaction.
I will definitely be a return customer. Thank you Sweetwater!

Great buy!
The guitar is really exceptional when you consider what it is. No problems with humidity, dings etc! Sound, you would have to purchase a $1200.00 guitar to match the sound this has. Very portable and easy to travel with. I recommend this guitar with no reservations! I have really enjoyed dealing with Kent Sallez, he really will work with you!
silent but deadly (Lol)
I know, I know....giving a 5 could be because you just bought something right? well thats possible?
I have a small home studio and a family that can't stand my hobby; how r we doing so far?? I can now play my guitar while spending family time in front of the boob tube every evening vs. sneaking away into "the studio" hiding from the world, ( thats me reading their minds)!
Seriously, I like the sound unplugged. The guitar looks weird but feels really good in my hands. The action is a tad high for me, but something that can be addressed at another time. I love the variety of tones when plugged in to the ear buds and it records beautifully. I no longer have to wait for that golden moment when the house is quiet to record either. the built in tuner is great and this thing staying in tune. Love the SRT technology and also the pickup sound.
I could go on and on, but if your situation is anything like mine, this guitar can really improve your guitar experience!!

• Fantastic Blown Away
I just received the SLG200N (Tobacco Sunburst) from Sweetwater. I opened the package and my first impression was that it looks just gorgeous - it is worth the money just for its use as a wall decoration on its own.
But the sound! Not a trace of piezo quack, and it sounds much better than the SLG130W (which is no slouch) I tested some time ago. I tried it straight into a CM-30 monitor first; wow, everything sounds good. Then I brought up Live and tried a couple of patches from Guitar Rig 5 - amazing! I think Yamaha has finally figured out how to make a 2 x 4 sound like a real instrument.. :)
And the guys at Sweetwater were so helpful. Thanks Kevin and Justin, you both really went the extra mile and a half on this. I have dealt with Sweetwater over many years, and have had extremely good service always, always....
A "Slient Guitar" that rocks!
I have been playing steel string guitars for over 50 years and recently found myself "nylon curious." I tried several nylon string guitars in the stores, but nothing clicked. When I asked my Sweetwater rep Tad about this guitar, he had plenty of praise for it. The wide neck width and flat fretboard take some getting used to, but I am very pleased with the tone and comfort of this guitar. It has proven to be the nylon addition I wanted. I like the electronics on it, and the "silent" aspect of it makes it good for practice. I will be using it for recording, and perhaps playing out on some songs.
Thanks, Tad, for your continued good advice.
