Majestic Guitar

By John Roy from Chandler, AZ on April 22, 2020

This guitar is work of art. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable to play, but the combination of pickups makes this instrument's presence immediately known. The electronics produce deep, rich, beautiful tone that is perfect for any venue. I absolutely love this guitar and would recommend it to classical players, singer-songwriters, and those who play small gigs.

Beautiful purchase

I have a copy of a Garcia worth roughly 6k. My Yamaha feels better, plays easier and is a pleasure to have for only 600 bucks. Fits perfectly in small airplanes where no overhead cargo typically fits (3 seaters)

Yamaha SLG200N

By Debbie Turner from CO on March 10, 2018 Music Background: Ukulele, flute and classical guitar

Perfect for travel and practicing in close settings with earplugs or earphones. Also sounds great when amplified. Action out of the box is good, but you might prefer to have your local luthier adjust it to the way you like it. Coolest looking guitar. All my friends want to hear it and give it a try.

This Guitar Meets All My Needs and Sounds Great!!

By Carl Jackson from Silver Spring, Md on October 31, 2016

I thought about buying this guitar for a while. I went on YouTube and watched all the reviews on it. There were none in the local stores to try out. I needed a travel guitar, and one to help me practice without disturbing anyone. This guitar fit all my needs and after talking to my favorite salesman at Sweetwater, Randy Akins, I bought it. The only thing I have done to it is put Pro Arte extra hard tension strings on it and adjusted the truss rod to lower my action. It sounds fantastic, is easy to play and provides an easy platform
to practice my favorite songs with its audio input and headphone jack, At it's current price, for me it was a no brainer!! Thanks to Randy @ Sweetwater for another great recommendation!!!

Just what I've been looking for!

By FRANCISCO PRADO from New York on July 23, 2016

Fantastic guitar! For someone who likes or only has time to practice at late hours or lives in an apartment building such as myself and wants to play quietly, this is a wonderful solution. The construction quality is top notch, lots of attention to detail, the finish, the hardware, and the features are sweet. Pictures just dont do it justice I've already had several people compliment the looks of the guitar as well as its sound and it quickly has replaced my other classical guitar, one of the reasons why is because the electronics are very responsive which helps by making recordings as accurate as possible with minimal coloration in the sound, especially since I record exclusively through my audio interface which means I dont mic my acoustic and capturing only what is being played and nothing else is essential. My previous guitar's piezo suffered from the well know issues of thin or brittle sound, too much quack, and way too sensitive to feedback, with the SLG200N these issues are GONE! the SRT pickup system is quite versatile as you have onboard sounds (Reverb and Chorus) plus the option of either pickup or mic emulation which means tonal versatility is just a knob away. To sweeten the deal, you get the choice of using either battery or AC power (Sold separately) which means you wont have to rely on batteries all the time! As always, big thanks to Bob Mondock from Sweetwater, he's been helping me with my purchases for almost 5 years now and made sure my buying experience was top notch!

Love it!

By Scott from USA on April 8, 2016

I have had my SLG200N for about a month. It meets my needs perfectly. I ordered the steel string, but they mistakenly sent the nylon string version. I'm glad. It sounds great and is so easy to play. I practice much more now. No feedback. Variety of sounds--a great. The portability is also a big bonus.

Very Nice

By Thomas Mangano from Laurel, NY on October 19, 2023

I love the sound and the build. Both very lush in sound and appearance. My only issue is it seats a little to small and the neck is weightier than the body so it tends to lean. I have found that a lower stool balances the guitar more. However in spite of that all I would definitely recommend this guitar. I am also going to gig with it because it amps great with 0 feedback concerns and looks really cool too. I tried it with a leather strap but it's not a great feel.

Excellent for travel

By David from TX on June 10, 2016

I travel for a living and I've tried several travel size guitars but I'm always disappointed with small guitars. Thin sound and smaller scale length just doesn't cut it so I was really pleased to find this guitar. After a proper setup it plays very well and is compact enough to take anywhere and sounds great through headphones. As always the support from sweetwater were top notch. I won't buy gear anywhere else!

Nice guitar!

By Whitney Harding from Long Beach, CA on May 5, 2016

This guitar is pretty darn cool. It sounds incredible wth headphones via the onboard pre amp. I connect it to my Mac and play along with songs--which is a great option! I was really impressed with the sound. I do experience a small amount of clipping when I have the treble turned up. (when playing thru headphones) But its so subtle that its not much of an issue. Overall this guitar is a great item. But, it needs a proper setup to really enjoy. I personally set up all my guitars so it wasn't a big deal ( started about a year ago) First impression was the frets were rough and needed a further polish to make the bends smooth as glass. This didn't really bother me because I understand they don't go the extra mile with the fret dressing as a means to keep production costs low. In reality most all guitars will need a complete setup prior to really enjoying/ playing the instrument. This guitar was no different. The action on this was pretty high to start with so it needed a truss rod adjustment and a bridge shaving to lower the action. I also lowered the nut as well. In conclusion-- this guitar sounds and plays as good as my high end guitars. Its made VERY well and I highly recommend this guitar. My best advice is to not be afraid of learning how to set up your guitar. Buy the tools and learn on pawn shop guitars. Its not hard-- and will save you a lot of money-- I digress! Bottom line-- BUY this guitar-- you will be glad you did! And Sweetwater customer service is second to none. As a studio apartment guitar player I need to play quiet- and this is the way. I should have bought it sooner.

Yamaha SLG200N

By J D Moore from Montana on January 5, 2016 Music Background: Bassist

I am a bassist. Recently, I began classical guitar lessons, mostly because I've always envied guitarist's skills, and I wanted to learn something musically new. I bought a Cordoba C5 from Sweetwater. It has proved to be an excellent entry level instrument. However, my practice habits were driving my long suffering wife mad. The Yamaha SLG200N has been the solution. It is far more than a silent practice guitar though. The electronics are very good, and I have been amazed at how natural it sounds played through headphones, or through my acoustic amp. The ability to model its sounds with the electronics gives me a broad range of pleasing effects. I have already travelled by air with it on several occasions without any untoward events. It's funky looks never fail to draw comments, yet is as comfortable to play as my Cordoba guitar. As usual, the service always impeccable, yet another reason why I buy exclusively from Sweetwater.

Strap solutions

By Darren O'Neill from New Jersey on August 9, 2020 Music Background: Classical guitar instructor

For those who have noted that using a strap loosens the screws which attach the top piece to the body, attached are some pictures detailing some solutions. The lower screw needs to pull downward to remain tight. Lacing the strap through the body is necessary because it uses gravity to pull the screw in the right direction. As for the top screw, there is no way to prevent it from loosening when a strap is attached. Adding a strap button on the heel is a quick fix.

SLG200N-Natrual

By KADO from Elkhart Indiana on January 4, 2018 Music Background: Play for family and personal only.

Pros: Wood grain has contrast and looks good, sturdy. Simulated SRT sound is good for practice (Head Phones) or using a PA system and has a little more of bright sound, friends thought the sound was better than my Godin SA Nylon. Have about 4 hours on it and the battery is still good.
Cons: Not setup for easy play. The nut was set way too high, I had to remove about 0.075" and adjust the neck to almost flat in order to get easier play at the nut end of the neck. Will have to remove about the same or more off of the bridge in order to equal the setup that came standard on my Godin. Recommend changing the strings after adjusting, since my D string broke after 4 adjustments.
In Final: I would have given a 5.0 rating if the setup was as advertised. Considering price and quality, other than play ability, this is a good buy. If you are good at making your adjustments then go for it, if you need to have someone else do it, then add that to your cost if you want easy play.
