I'm really impressed with this mixer and its flexibility. I need a mixer to record live shows of my performances and the sound quality is professional as always with PreSonus. Works OK, but can't register it

By Kreuz from ANTELOPE, CA

Tried to register it and it doesn't work because it was already registered. Working with Presonus to get that fixed, but taking a while. Key information was cut out of the box but I was able to get it from the product. I guess this isn't part of the "certified open box" process. Kind of regret buying open box on this one.

PreSonus StudioLive AR8c Mixer and Audio Interface with Effects

By John L. from OKC area
Music Background: 40 year music producer

I am somewhat disappointed with the new Mixer. It arrived on time and I began the setup only to discover that it could not be recognized as the Device. I tried over and over to no avail and finally turned to tech support. Not only did it still not recognize the device, the tech had to, use ASIO4All to get it to finally open. How can a Presonus Product on Presonus software not recognize its own product? I had no such issues with the Focusrite 2 channel unit I was replacing. Whjat was I thinking?
Now, the plot thickens with a bushel of chickens.
I used the unit for a couple of days with latency that was maddening.... back to Tech. Got that worked out.
Next the unit quit recording after a few seconds and I went back to support. This time it was not a Presonus issue, it w3as a bad mic cord of all things.
All in all I'm a little gun shy of this "Great New Mixer" (Joe Gilder), so Buyer beware. Presonus... Get it together Buddy... We need to be able to play without so much "parental supervision"

Nice features but it died on me

By Cristian U. from Ohio
Music Background: Acoustical Engineer

This mixer and audio interface has nice features but after only 2 years of moderate use it started having lots of issues. Now it won't even connect to my computer and Presonus told me to send it to a repair center on my dime. I expected it to last much longer. I've taken great care of it, certainly wasn't abused. Sucks to lose my investment. I'd recommend finding something rlse and make sure the warranty is as long as possible and the brand is responsive and reliable with today's electronics.

Great mixer / sound card adapter for the price!

By Ray from Boulder Creek, CA
Music Background: Dabbler & amateur electronica, pianist, flutist

I picked this over a standalone mixer so I wouldn't need to fuss later with getting sound into my DAW. It was easy to set up, easy to configure on the iMac (I've not tried it with my Microsoft Surface Laptop yet, but expect the experience to be similar), and it's easy to use. The manual is clear and well-illustrated, although it's a "family manual", showing illustrations for the higher-end versions of the same mixer, which can be a trifle confusing if you're like me and only look at pictures when you're too excited to read the words.

I've not touched either the Bluetooth or the SD recording functionality, but expect both to work well. I have a 32GB SDHC card I'll be using to record noodling on my synths with, rather than capturing to a DAW most of the time.

Highly recommended.

It's a Good Mixer

By John C. from OR
Music Background: Folk Singer Songwriter

First off the PFL button doesn't send the channel to output meter for setting gain like very other company's. It solos the channel to phones. However the light next to the gain knob constantly monitors signal strength so setting gain is easy.
Recording to SD works but you have no way to know what track your on or delete a track.
Also the effects really aren't that good. You can use them if used sparingly.
Overall there's a few things that could be improved but you can get good mixes and good recordings with this mixer. It's laid out in an easy to use way and I'm glad I got it.
