No BS

By Sweetwater Customer on December 13, 2022 Music Background: Drummer

Very simple and easy to use. No noise or excessive heat. The one thing I would change is the layout of the posts on the rear panel. They are a bit cramped, but it's hard to complain since it all fits in one rack slot.

You get a lot in one rack space

By Phil Dickey from Payson, AZ on June 17, 2013 Music Background: Former church sound man, now traveling minister/recording artist

I have been using an ART SLA-1 power amplifier in my rack based live performance sound system for about three years, because size and weight are critical factors in all my equipment choices and the power output is more than sufficient for any venue where I sing. When I determined that I really needed to have a separate channel for my stage monitors, I chose the SLA-4 based on my extreme satisfaction with the SLA-1. So far, I have only used it for two performances, but the operation and performance are identical the SLA-1, but with the addition of two more channels. Hey, i could add a subwoofer! The toroidal transformers produce great power with significant weight savings from conventional transformers. The cooling fan is slightly louder than the fan on the SLA-1, but then it is cooling four channels instead of two. It is not annoyingly loud, or even really noticeable except by the operator, and then only when the room is otherwise silent. I highly recommend this amplifier, especially for a traveling sound system when size and weight are considerations.

I love this amplifier. Its small, robust and quiet. The cooling fanmakes virtually no noise even in my studio in dead silence, I can't hear it. Plent of power for monitors.

Nice clean amp

By John McLaughlin from Sheffield, PA US on April 24, 2012 Music Background: Recording, Live Sound Engineer, Bass Player

This amp is very clean for what I use it for.. It drives my home stereo and studio monitors. My high end floor speakers never sounded this good with the receiver amp. I'm thinking about getting another one for my Home theater system.. Thanks Sweetwater and ART for good products at a fair price.

All the features don't mean anything if it hums louder than your speakers.

By JT from WA on December 13, 2022

So, after some research, I purchased this unit to power my studio monitors and subwoofer. That was a mistake. I was aware of the fact that the fan might be loud. Not a huge deal to me. If you're savvy like I am it really wouldn't be that hard to replace it with a quieter one. The fan noise isn't really that bad, but this thing just hums with what sounds like 60Hz/Poor DC rectification on its own without the speakers plugged in and it continues on down the line to them. I have everything in my rack isolated and tested for ground loop issues. I even moved my power conditioner away from it into a separate rack. Unplugged cables. Checked them. Everything. Now I'm stuck with a $ hornet's nest powering my nice studio monitors and it's going to cost me out of pocket to return it. Pass on this one my friends.
