Blackstar St. James 50-watt 2x12 inch Tube Combo Amp with 6L6 Tubes Reviews

2-channel, 50-watt, 2 x 12" Tube Combo Amplifier with 6L6 Power Tubes, Cab Rig Output, and Power Reduction Switch

Blackstar’s St. James 2 x 12-inch 50-watt Tube Combo Amp is a tonal powerhouse, tackling everything from crushing extended-range riffage to clean jazzbox finesse with ease. As one of Blackstar's lightest and most innovative tube combo amps available, the St. James is tailor-made for studio and stage musicians seeking an all-in-one solution for everything from DI recording to live performance and beyond. St. James combo amps are constructed from candlenut plywood, reducing the weight significantly while maintaining the look and feel of a boutique amplifier. Its two channels are perfect for guitarists seeking crystal cleans and overdriven tones, relying on dual Celestion G12Z-70 "Zephyr" speakers to deliver this amp's sweet sounds. Swapping between the two channels is a breeze as well, with onboard toggles and an included external footswitch to meet your switching preferences. Best of all, the St. James comes stock with onboard cabinet simulation and power reduction — adding features like this to your rig often comes with a substantial price tag, but that's not the case here! Incredible sound for any situation is yours for the taking with Blackstar's St. James 2 x 12-inch 50-watt Tube Combo Amp.

I LOVE this amp!!!

By Larry Wilson from Buffalo Grove, IL on March 21, 2024

After viewing several demos on YouTube and testing out the EL34 variant, I decided to purchase the 6L6 variant and I wasn't disappointed when I got to play with this amp!!! The clean channel is THAT clean and adding the reverb on top, the tones I'm getting were absolutely amazing. The amp doesn't like my ABY pedal as the pedal adds some unwanted noise to Channel 2. Hopefully a noise gate will solve that problem. Otherwise, this is my perfect amp...lightweight and sounds great!!!

This thing RIPS

By John Perry from CHESWICK, PA on February 7, 2024

The clean channel on this thing is responsive and clear, taking pedals well.

The gain channel has a nice punchy sound to it, pushing the songs im playing into more aggressive territory, even more so if i put an overdrive on it.

For 1500, this thing has a lot of usually pricier features - volume reducing attenuation, buffered effects loop, cab simulation on headphones and direct to pa, true standby switch that disables speakers.

I can cover just about any type of guitar music the world can throw at me with this amp. Volume ranges from ear destroying boom to baby naptime volume. If I need to be even more discreet, the headphone jack with cab sim makes this compromise not a compromise. Practice time has never been this easy.

I have been playing a mustang through it but it's made an sg modern scream. I really cant say enough about this thing. Recommended.
