Kelly Concepts Kelly SHU FLATZ System for Sennheiser E901 Reviews

Internal Kick Drum Shockmount for Sennheiser e901 Boundary Microphone

For decades, engineers have placed boundary microphones inside of kick drums. These mics yield a full sound with extended bandwidth and copious apparent volume, especially when used in conjunction with a good dynamic mic. Unfortunately, keeping a boundary mic from bouncing around inside the drum has always been a challenge. The Kelly Concepts Kelly Shu Flatz System solves this age-old dilemma. Made from 30% fiberglass and high-density nylon, this innovative shockmount holds your Sennheiser e901 microphone firmly in position utilizing pre-existing hardware - no drilling required. Installing the Kelly Shu Flatz System is as easy as removing and replacing four screws. Both onstage and in the studio, the engineers at Sweetwater love the Kelly Concepts Kelly Shu Flatz System!

Great for permanently mounted mic

By Sweetwater Customer on June 7, 2021

This works great for mounting the e 901 mic, particularly for a permanent installation. I use it in conjunction with a DW/May non-drill adapter which converts the drum's air vent to an XLR connector. Very convenient if you want to have a non-ported front head and still have the option to pick up the attack of the beater. Here's a tip: the instructions have you mount the mic's grill facing up, and the mount is positioned in the bottom third of the shell. This pretty much gets in the way of any potential muffling devices you may want to use except the smallest of bass drum pillows. Instead, I mount the mic with the grill facing down, positioned on the top third of the shell. The mic doesn't know it's upside down and allows plenty of room for muffling devices to be placed in the bottom of the shell - even a 1 gallon paint can filled with sand (a la Simon Phillips). The only drawback to the mount is that there is zero front-to-back adjustment; it's positioned in the center of the shell no matter what. I've used these in all my kick drums for many years and never had any issue with any of them.
