Tech 21 Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp Pedal
Tech 21 Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp Pedal Reviews
Steve Harris’s fleet-fingered bass lines are the driving force behind Iron Maiden’s relentless gallop — the iconic rhythm that’s been appropriated by an endless number of the band’s heavy metal contemporaries. Steve typically achieves his heavy-hitting growl by plugging his bass into a handmade custom preamp and a bevy of vintage speaker cabinets. But when he was touring for his British Lion project, Steve wanted to scale down his rig without sacrificing tone. The result is Tech 21’s Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp. This all-analog pedal not only replicates the sound of his full-sized rig, but it also enables him to pipe that massive tone straight to the PA. On top of that, it supplies an expansive range of adjustability, unlocking a wide spectrum of bass tones. If you’re searching for a way to achieve a gargantuan bass sound without a bulky stack of speaker cabs, take the Steve Harris SH1 SansAmp for a test drive — it delivers a surmounting terror that’s hard to stop.
I love it
This is as brilliant as Steve Harris is.I Iove it. Extremely versatile in sound shaping, it has a tuner, and it is compact.
I LOVE his pedal!
My new favorite pedal! Worth every dime!

This thing is great
Best In Show!!
I have a few Tech 21 bass and guitar pedals. In my opinion, I think this one is my favorite and best sounding of all of'em! One of the best features this pedal has besides a great tone is the blend knob. If you already have a good sound going, you can blend this pedal in to compliment it even more.
Great!
Buy This!
I'm probably going to get a 2nd one.
It is that good!
Great pedal, love the tones
This is the second one I bought - I liked mine so much that I bought one for a buddy of mine. I tried all of the tones out of the manual but ultimately went with the Steve Harris settings.
I'm running a USA-made Fender P Bass into this pedal, then straight in to an Apogee Duet D/A converter and I'm very happy with the tones I'm tracking.
I know that amp modeling software has come a long way but my ears are still not convinced that it comes even close to outboard equipment and this unit is a really simple and compact way to get some killer, big tones.
Bonus that it's made in USA
Great sounds from a small footprint
This unit does not have presets. Channel 2 has the same eq settings as channel 1 but allows you to boost or cut the volume and gain. If you need to change tones frequently, this isn't the pedal for you. I have a 99 Stingray, a 2020 Thunderbird and an 05 Dean. They all sound different but great through it. Their personalities really come through. Play around with the example settings to get a feel for it and then tweak it to make your own. Its a great piece of equipment if you take the time to understand it and learn it. It's not going to make you sound like Steve Harris unless you have the chops!
Best, Most Simple Pre-Amp I've ever used.
Excellent
Excellent pedal what Steve Harris did to make his sound in one little box and there's a few more presets to turn them on to sound like other bass players which is amazing and you could customize your own sound probably one of the best pedals by far! And I want to throw a shout out to Patrick Lantz he pointed me the right way and if you guys ever need a sales person Patrick is the guy to go to he knows his stuff! And I'm putting a picture up of my two favorite petals that I can't live without now check out the Digitech drop too
Fat punchy direct bass tones!
I'm a home studio enthusiast. I've recorded direct with other products and I've miked bass amps. The SH1 really gets bass tone right. I can get fat, punchy tone with deep, full low end but no mud or boominess, that sits right in a mix, without the extra time involved in miking up my bass amp. It doesn't have an onboard compressor, but I haven't found it necessary to use one. The output is pretty consistent. All the effects in the world won't fix a poor foundational bass tone. The SH1 captures the tones of a high end bass rig without a lot of complication and time setting up mics and other stuff.
Killer SansAmp!!
Awesome Pedal
I bought this thing because I love my sans amp and I love Iron Maiden. I have two Bass heads I use when I gig out. I use a dark glass micro tubes 900 bass head and I add little distortion. I use a fender Superbassman 100 as my main bass head which I love the sound but it’s heavy as hell to lug around. So I just use the dark glass head for the 900 watts to push my cabs and I use the Steve Harris sans amp to get my sound and it sounds like a tube head and easy to dial in a sound. I love with my jazz bass with the pedal. It’s a bit more tricky at least for me to dial in my active basses. The tuner works well. It can only boost or cut the second Chanel’s volume and gain but other than that I’m liking it so far.
Beast in a box
I'm not good at reviews, this is what I liked and disliked about the Steve Harris sh1 pedal. Huge maiden fan , so I had to get this pedal. I was under the impression that his tone n a few others were programmed into the pedal. It's not ,My mistake.
Pros for me..tuner...great! , multiple plug in options , plenty of tone options
Cons for me.. Not programmable , pedal is very small.. Knobs are hard to see on the floor, just plain too small , price... For me I need more out of this pedal... I have the geddy lee pedal which I dig.
Awesomeness!
This pedal is awesome. I'm a huge Maiden fan, and I have the Steve Harris P Bass strung with his signature Rotosound flats and this pedal completes it all. Absolutely nails Steve's sound. The only other sample setting I've tried so far is the Geezer and it was pretty cool too. Tech 21 nailed it again! If you're a Maiden fan and want Steve's true sound, you gotta get this pedal.
Great tone but falls short of being fantastic!
I haven't been able to really put it through a true acid test but the two channel format falls short with only one bank of tone controls. This is not a cheap stomp box... it's on the high end of tonal dollars. The only thing to enhance the second channel is volume and gain so basically it's a one channel processor with 2 boost features. Does it sound good...yes it does, just falls short of being fantastic. I have a collection of Tech 21 pedals and my Sans Amp Bass Driver is close to 30 years old and still a mainstay for my sound. I feel the bottom line was more important than true function. Would I buy it again...hard telling. I'm looking forward to see how it sounds live in the mix and will give a update.
