PRS SE McCarty 594 Electric Guitar - Black Gold Burst Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Black Gold Burst

The PRS SE McCarty 594 electric guitar marks the model’s debut within the SE series, bringing the tonal might and effortless playability of one of Paul’s most iconic models to the masses! Just like its Core line siblings, this 6-string boasts an elegant tonewood pairing of mahogany and maple — a time-tested combo that imparts both warmth and definition to your every note. Next, a pair of low-wind 58/15 LT “S” pickups take the old-school magic of ’50s-style humbuckers straight into the 21st century with an extra helping of clarity and articulation. Looking for a rock-solid gigging guitar? A PRS 2-piece bridge and PRS-designed tuners bookend the SE McCarty 594 with enhanced sustain and exceptional tuning stability. The rosewood-topped-mahogany neck rounds out this guitar’s feature set with a slightly chunky Pattern Vintage profile that’s sure to please thumb-over-neck players and fans of vintage-style neck carves.

As always, Daniel took very good care of me! He is the reason I continue to come back over and over! Thank you Sweetwater! And especially, thank you, Daniel!

Great guitar and service

By Sweetwater Customer on March 20, 2024

Sweetwater delivered this guitar amazingly, super well packed. The guitar itself is gorgeouds, no flaws and it seems that was made with lots of attention to detail. It plays great I'm justan eternal beginner but it plays better than my MIM strat from 2012 and it's much lighter.

It's about time PRS

By Bradley Thompson from Knoxville, TN on January 8, 2024

So glad PRS finally decided to make a SE McCarty 594. The 594 have always looked beautiful to me and these SE versions are no exception. Not only do the look and feel amazing they sound absolutely steller!!!! I have zero complaints. Only wish PRS would of done this sooner. Good job PRS and Cort guitars for manufacturing a guitar at this level.

Yep it does

Value for money is where I live. This guitar is worth every dime and more. Neck is very familiar and user friendly. Fret ends and binding on neck we're on point. All knobs and switch felt like you would hope.
I was running thru my nural nolly and strummed a few Cowboys chords, then did what anyone would.
Launched into shepherd of fire to kick it in the but so to speak. It'll do whatever you ask. Sparkling cleans, and chugs galore if that's ur thing. Very pleased. Special word of thanks to my sales associate Eric or Aric sorry for spelling he was a delight and made the process a breeze.

My first PRS

By Michael Boyer from Fairport, NY on December 26, 2023

I've been keeping an eye out for this specific guitar and when Sweetwater dropped the price by $ I bought one. I've played other PRS at guitar shops but never this one. I chose this because the wide fat neck and the coil splits taps whatever. This guitar is so so nice and the tones are incredible. The best part is when you add gain, it comes alive and sounds so good. I've been playing it for anb hour now and I'll probably stay up till 2 or 3am and drag myself to work tomorrow. I can't say enough about this guitar, what you get for $ is just amazing. It's weight is perfect, the neck feels so good, the fretwork is incredible, the neck binding is perfect, this guitar arrived with the outer box looking like it went around the world twice to get here, the inner box was literally out of the bottom of the outer box, but the guitar is perfect. The only imperfect thing is it seems as if it was the first day at the factory and they had he or she install the strings. They're done horribly! But no prob! Regarding the strings...I use Ernie Ball and these things seem...I don't know, I really like them though. The wound strings feel smoother or something? I'm definitely going to buy a few packs and see how I like them on other guitars. Okay, that's it, buy one... you'll love it!!!
Edit: the pic of the box was in Walgreens where I had it shipped to. They put inner box back in and taped it up.
I'm very grateful to everyone at PRS, Sweetwater and FedEx, thank you all:)

Great Guitar!

By Donald Schultz from MOBILE, AL on December 11, 2023 Music Background: Love to play.........50 years!

I have been looking for years for a particular sound in an Electric Guitar. I own a Les Paul, Genesis, Strat, Tele,Ibanez with Sat. Night Special pups and several others. All have great sound and play great. However the 594 has the perfect amount of gain in both pups. They blend well together. The bridge pup has a full body sound clean and not over "Twangy". When driven it has the best "crunch" I have heard in a bridge pup. When driven hard it will hang with the sustain! Volume roll off is second to none. Clean to crunch to full sustain. The 58/15 pups are incredible.
The Black Gold Burst is absolutely stunning. It was great to see the guitar from all angles from the Sweetwater photo shoot. The guitar came procted well and believe it or not it was in tune. Great setup out of the box.
Thank you Sweetwater for a great online buying experience!!

Had to find out for myself...

By Paul B from Centerbrook, CT on March 30, 2023

I had to find out for myself and boy am I glad I did! I have a couple of the S2 McCarty models, check out my reviews on their own page. but I had to know, how was the SE version going to stack up? Well butter my biscuit! the SE version is an outstading instrument! The Amazing looks, tone, playability, are out of this world for this guitar. It Looks, plays and feels like a Core PRS Model at 1/3 the price point. the fit and finish are astonishing. set up out of the box was spot on. I played this fine guitar side by side against the S2 version and it blew me away. The SE version holds its own no problem and is a die hard Rock machine! you can play anything on these guitars and they will sound amazing, play amazing and get you all the girls!! Maniacs, here is a piece of advice, go back and click the "add to Cart" button now and get your bad self one of these now! I know I would! My sales Rep, Ed Nystrom, rocks!

The best guitar I own for the price.

By Sweetwater Customer on August 18, 2023

I bought this guitar as soon as it came out. I have played the much more expensive American versions and this guitar is so close to that there is no way I could justify paying 3X for the American. The Tone that comes out of this is beautiful and is what I pick up over my Gibson Les Paul Standard.

The Neck is smooth and easy to play on. The fret job is fairly decent but I did pay to have it Plek'd and it was a noticeable change. The fact I had so much improvement after the PLEK job is the only reason this isn't 5 stars.

Very Nice

By Sweetwater Customer on May 5, 2023

Couple of weeks in and I am very pleased. Reid was great. Out of the box guitar set up was very good. I did take a little relief out of the neck to my liking. Great guitar, great tones.

Wait a Minute!!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 5, 2023 Music Background: Ametuer musician

This is a nice guitar, but that neck is Chunky. I strongly suggest you try before you buy! The guitar does not sit comfortably in your lap when sitting. The tone controls have no resistance and it is easy to overshoot your mark. They feel quite different than the volume controls. Those are my negatives. It is a beautiful and well-made guitar and the pickups are certainly good enough for the advanced amateur or semi-pro. You might want to replace them if you play to make a living, but otherwise they're good. The tuning pegs look cheap but they are effective; their large size make it easy to tune on the go. If you can live with that neck and $ is your limit, then you've got a winner here. The fret board feels like any short-scale guitar.

Demo returned

By Lyndon Smaltz on February 22, 2024

Just a quick thanks for good salesmanship. Bought this PRS demo to save a few $. When I received the guitar, it looked so good I thought they sent a new one. Not so, there was significant nut and fret repair needed, these problems were not disclosed in the demo write up. My sales representative fully cooperated with me and stood by me in taking the demo back. I bought a new PRS in a different model. All is well and I learned to stay away from a demo. These mishaps are bound to happen from time to time. It's unfortunate but Sweetwater was responsible and put the customer first. Yes I was mad, but I learned to respect the sales team Thank you Anthony.
