PRS SE Locking replacement tuners.

By John Ernst from UT on April 15, 2024 Music Background: Electric and acoustic Guitar player in small banbs and solo.

These replacement locking tuners fit perfect and are a great upgrade. The install was easy and they look and work great. If you prefer locking tuners over standard, these are the way to go.

PRS SE LOCKING TUNERS

By Richard from Nashville on March 28, 2024 Music Background: Guitar player 50 yrs

Good tuners they save me a few minutes of time changing my strings but no bid deal on my part i don't mind changing strings at all.My stock tuners are just a smooth as the new one's and kept my guitar in tune very well even with a lot of use with the vibrato bar.My nut is cut spot on & a great set up.I am glad i got the locking tuners because it helps out even more with tuning stability i will not keep a guitar that i can not in tune like i said it was very good before and now its great! 30 minutes of time to replace & to my ears a tad brighter sounding.100 percent satisfied. Thanks Mike S

SE Locking Tuners

Perfect fit. Super easy install, makes for quicker string changes. Very well made. Great and easy upgrade.

DGT SE gets upgrade

By Sweetwater Customer on March 15, 2024

PRS locking tuners are a nice upgrade to your PRS SE model. SE models are a great deal and minor upgrades take them up a level.

Lock it down

By Jon Sims from White Oak, TX on March 13, 2024

These have made this instrument whole. They also look nice and dropped right in as if they belonged there the whole time. They work as designed and look to be of great quality.

Great

By Edward Bowers from HOPEWELL, VA on March 11, 2024

I've only had these a month or so, but if your a fan of locking tuners and don't want to add new mounting holes these will drop right into your PRS SE. Installation was quick and easy and the locking mechanism is easy to use. Only thing I could see being a problem is if you were to lose one of the black tips that actually lock the string. so be careful.

Not a direct replace for Silver Sky.

By Big Papa from Thousand Islands on December 22, 2023 Music Background: Seasonal tourist tip taker

I love my PRS SE guitars and I like the convenience of being able to quick change strings at gigs. I bought two sets of these tuners. One for my Piezo and one for my Silver Sky. The Piezo was a breeze to change out. The Silver Sky is going to be a project. I haven't done it yet. May save the tuners for my next PRS. These guitars are so dang good. Love them!!

Perfect Upgrade

By Richard Walker from Marion, OH on December 18, 2023 Music Background: 40+ Year recording/gigging.

Be sure to order SE locking tuners for SE guitars. Core PRS tuners differ from SE.

Great tuners and a great upgrade to any SE. I had no issues with the stock tuners, but simply prefer the convenience of the locking tuners…and I have them on all my PRS models (Core, CE, S2, and SE).

Worth the money!

Awesome locking tuners, easily to put on and reliable.

PRS SE locking tuners

By cb from Michigan on December 1, 2023 Music Background: Semi-pro as of late

Went right into my 2014 Korean made Santana - I like the fact they have brass posts - not sure I notice better sustain but as I use the vibrato arm a bit, I like the tuning stability these should provide (I'm also working the nut for the custom string set I run so....faith in the stability at this point. Replacing strings more quickly also very nice and appreciated. AlexG with Sweetwater was helpful as usual.

Easy to Install and Excellent Results

By Matthew Conrad from Cincinnati, OH on October 25, 2023

As someone with next to no technical or guitar maintenance skills, I was a little apprehensive about messing with my guitar, but my fear was completely unfounded. I managed to install these in about 15 minutes. The only little issue was that the included screws were too small (I just used the ones that were already on the guitar).

I immediately noticed improved tuning stability and the ease and speed of changing strings was worth the upgrade.

I recommend these tuners as a must-have upgrade for anyone who wants to improve their already excellent PRS SE to the next level... they're great.

I love them

By Sweetwater Customer on August 10, 2023

I put these on an old PRS SE Customer 24 from the first year they came out.

I was not happy with the tuners on the SE Paul's I purchased. I tried two different sets of vintage style locking tuner on it with disappointing results. These worked great on my Customer 24 so I bought these for the Paul's. I found that the vintage style tuners use a narrower hole so I let a luthier install them. That was the end of my tuning struggles.

Works perfect, fits perfect even in old SE models

By Michael Burkman on June 13, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate/Advanced, occasional gigging

Bought a demo version of these, they still look and feel like new.

I put these in a 2004 PRS SE Soapbar. I wasn't totally sure they'd fit such an old model, but it was worth the shot. The fit absolutely perfectly. And they hold tune fantastically. No issues or complaints here.

PRS Locking Tuners - easy upgrade with multiple benefits

By Glenn from Santa Maria, Ca on May 26, 2023 Music Background: Pro

Even taking your time, cleaning all the normally covered areas on the neck and head and restringing and tuning, it's about a 30 minute upgrade. Fits perfect (new screws that came with were correct size) with difficulty. Makes changing strings non the future a breeze. I play 9, 9.5s on my PRS and never have broken a string, but I play everyday and gig regularly soI'm restringing often. Plus they hold tuning excellently. The other kinda subjective thing is I notice tone change (and I am a tone nerd of the highest order). The brass shaft gives a little more ring and chime, and sustains a bit stronger, as well as a brightness that's not harsh but fuller. My advice is to get these if you are on the fence - you will be glad you did. Really a value upgrade for the $$ !

Easy to install, work great. Highly recommend.

Baritone fit

By Ross Currier from PLATTSBURGH, NY on March 30, 2023

Upgraded to locking tuners on my PRS Baritone 277 SE, perfect fit. I use .14-.68 gauge and had no problem threading through the post. Adds a nice subtle touch of gold to the headstock and as all locking tuners do, makes changing strings an absolute breeze.

Great to have locking tuners on my Custom 24 SE!

By Vance Gloster from Arcadia, CA on March 18, 2023 Music Background: Signed artist

The tuners were easy to install, fit perfectly in the existing holes. These are the same tuners in the PRS Core (super expensive) guitars. Tuning has been even more stable with them, though it was not bad before. A great upgrade for an SE.

Buy Them. Love them. Use them.

By Larry from Rockville, IN on March 16, 2023 Music Background: Retired electrician with arthritis trying to play guitar better & understand music.

Buy them. Put them on anything and every headstock the hole will align and that will work correctly with your guitars.
I put them on my new PRS SE 24-08 to match my PRS Cores: P22 & Hollowbody II guitars 10 tops. The 24-08 is also a spectacular guitar "on the cheap." Has a sound all its own, seems to wah & pinch on bends quite easily. By far easier to play!
The look is cool, changing strings is a breeze. Took me an hour to do this job myself. Was able to use original strings for the change. I did one at a time.
Unwind them, cut them at the old tuner an lay the string back so you don't scratch the headstock. After installing, pull them tight, tighten the black string clamp with your fingers and give it a "slight nudge" with a straight screwdriver to keep the string clamp from backing off. It's all the force you need. Cut off almost all excess string!
Install advice: tighten the nut to make it tight against the headstock, then give it a "slight" nudge. That's it!! NO OVERHAND HULKING ON THIS! Just a slight nudge! It'll be fine!!
Three treble strings will need restretched a bit , or just play it and adjust it.

Tools: #1 Phillips, straight screwdriver, 10mm nut driver, side cutters.

Sure makes string changing much easier!

By Joel Greene from Smethport PA on January 12, 2023

I really like these tuners, I put them on my PRS SE hollow bodyll Piezo for easier string changes. Definitely did not have any issues with original tuners actually never had a guitar stay in tune as well as this guitar but string changes are much easier and we're super easy to install. I would like to thank Tiberius Huiu for all his help in assisting me in all of my purchases.

Drops right in.

By Sweetwater Customer on December 16, 2022 Music Background: Professional

Installed on both my Mira SE and Tremonti SE, will be upgrading my Mark Holcomb SE asap. Super easy to do, they fit perfectly, dropped right in, and the results are phenomenal. For those familiar with locking tuners you know, there is no going back to winding the old way. They making changing strings so easy that you'll be more inclined to keep fresh strings on you guitar.

The debate of whether or not they actually help with "tuning stability" rages on. From my experience over the years the tuning stability has improved with every single guitar I've ever installed locking tuners on, period. Are their other factors to take into account to improve tuning stability like the nut, saddles, truss rod, lubrication, bridge, etc. as well? You betcha, check 'em all, fix 'em up, play the heck out of 'em and enjoy.

Thank you PRS for making these tuners perfect drop in replacements that are super easy to swap by everybody. Thank you to Sweetwater as well for the excellent service.

Nice upgrade, great quaility

Easy and terrific addition to your PDRS SE

They are a killer upgrade and easy to install. Look good on the guitar and I barely ever have to tune it now.

Great replacement for stock tuners

By Matt D from KS on October 21, 2022

These tuners are great and were pretty simple to install just make sure you have the right size screwdriver so you don't strip out the screws. Definitely makes string changes a breeze and they look great as well.

Great Value Good Tuners

By Daniel Hoehne from Metamora, IL on October 6, 2022 Music Background: Instrumentalist Composer Producer

Great runners for me custom 24. Took 10 minutes to change out. Love everything about my Se guitars except the tuners which are sloppy at best. This was a smart upgrade.... easy more stable tuning.

Perfect drop-in replacement for SE tuners

By Todd from Northern Virginia on September 29, 2022 Music Background: Composition student, musician, teacher, engineer

I think almost anyone with a smallish Phillips head screwdriver and the right size hex wrench or socket wrench can replace their own tuners for their PRS SE with this locking tuners. The work is very easy. I took my time about it and I don't think it was even an hour. And I'll confess I used a pair of slip joint pliers because my hex wrenches are in storage.

Obviously a great upgrade for an SE. It adds a bit to the total cost, but the additional value makes the resulting guitar possibly the best bang for you buck in the entire electric guitar market.

I also replaced the nut with the PRS recommended Graph Tech nut (which is not an easy replacement if you want to do it right) and after those upgrades I can dive bomb with the vibrato arm and the strings only go slightly out of tune. So it's not as stable as a locking nut system, but it's about 95% as good and you don't have to deal with the locking nut when you change strings or want to go to dropped D or whatever.

I have guitars costing twice as much as the total investment I have in my SE now and the SE is just as good as any of them (maybe slightly better than some).

Easy Install!

By Austin Kessler from JACKSONVILLE, FL on September 23, 2022 Music Background: Guitar Tech & Guitar Teacher

These installed perfectly into my PRS SE Acoustic. The dropped right in where the old ones were installed. No need for fancy plates annoying drilling etc. It took me about 30 minutes to swap them out including stringing the guitar. It has improved string change time, and the quality is just as good as the original maybe even a little more stable.

Solid Solution

By Sweetwater Customer on September 20, 2022 Music Background: Retired but not dead Pro

These locking tuners are a perfect match to replace the not so great tuners that come in the :LP Studio style guitar kit from StewMAc.com. Until now, I was unable to replace them without unsightly new holes in the head stock.

Locking tuners are terrific

By Mark from SC on September 8, 2022 Music Background: A church guitarist for much of the past 50 years.

These locking tuners installed easily and work great. I put them on a PRS SE 24-08 and they work as well as the factory ones that came on my PRS DGT. I have a Strat with locking tuners and love those as well. Some critique the black screw heads on these PRS locking tuners but actually I like the look! Make one of the easiest and best upgrades to your guitar with locking tuners. You won't be sorry.

Locking tuners

By Kyuu from Iowa on May 25, 2022

Before installing these on my se 24-08 I would have to tune my guitar every time I got it out of the case. Now I rarely have to adjust anything I can just grab it and sit and play. Much more convenient and better quality than what came on the guitar.

A terrific upgrade

By Bryan on February 14, 2022

I'm no seasoned professional. Frankly, I need all the help I can get and the last thing I need is to go out of tune during a break between songs. That's exactly what happened, and that's what convinced me to purchase these PRS SE locking tuners. So glad I did. Super easy to install (I'm no handyman either) and my tuning is so stable now. Highly recommend!

I'm sure I'll find other ways to embarrass myself onstage. But at least I'll be in tune.

Easy peezy

By Roger Wyatt from Pigeon Forge, TN on January 27, 2022 Music Background: Playing since I was 10 years old. Still suck tho but it’s fun. Lmao. Good thing I’m a tattoo artist.

Great replacement tuners for my PRs se245. Easy install and tuning is smooth as butter. Gives it a true USA Maryland PRS feel. Waiting on my Zakk Wylde EMG set to replace my pickups. All said and done I'll have a guitar that plays like the 6k version for under a grand.

Very practical Locking Tuning Machines

By Erick Lucas from CORONA, CA on January 23, 2022 Music Background: Guitar, Piano, and Bass musician

It just makes sense to buy Locking Tuning Machines made by PRS since you can't go wrong how they fit your PRS guitar. I bought these Locking Tuning Machines from Sweetwater and installed like 3 days later. When using on stage, it was so easy to unlock my tuning keys with my fingers, make the tuning adjustment and lock them again. I am happy I purchased these keys. It makes my tuning while playing live less often.

Perfect replacement.

By Sweetwater Customer from MN on January 19, 2022

Bought these to replace the stock tuners on my PRS SE Hollowbody ii piezo. Perfect fit, and easy to install. I'll probably get another set for my SE 24 Schizoid.

Oh my Gosh, absolutely amazing. Actually purchased these for an esp ltd ec256 upgrade.Fit like a glove, had to use the existing esp screws as to the prs screws that came with tuners were smaller diameter and length than the factory holes. I would say these are the best locking design out there for the money.

Quality Upgrade

By James Ashby from Austin on October 20, 2021 Music Background: Novice

Sweetwater is great. Spoke with a tech to make sure these locking tuners wouldn't require anything that might change my PRS SE Hollowbody. They correctly assured me and sent them to me in a timely fashion.
These tuners are the upgrade to the SE we have all wanted. I recommend highly for what it's worth.

Work just as they should

Highly Recommend

By Steve F. from Utica MI on March 25, 2021 Music Background: Semi Professional Candle Maker

I grabbed one of the new pink SE Cu24's. Threw these badboys on. They are great! Idk....people talk about a tonal difference with these since they have brass shafts. I'm gonna be real honest here and say I really can't tell. But what I am certain of, when I use the trem, they are way more stable as far as tuning goes. And string changes take minutes. And they look pretty cool too! Also...they drop right in. Like...I literally suck at installing things on guitars. I've actually soldered my fingers together twice. But even I was able to drop these in and restring within 25 minutes. Just gotta remember not to over tighten the nuts. People have written about the little screws being too small and having to just use the original ones. But mine were nearly identical to the stock screws. So maybe Paul rectified the issue? Who knows. Anyway. These are pretty neat.

Nice tuners

By Jeff on March 21, 2021

These tuners are well made, as expected. Easy to install, really help in holding tune and make string changes a breeze, well worth the money.

PRS SE Locking Turning

By Dennis R. Padgett from Siloam Springs AR on March 19, 2021

Very pleased with the PRS SE Locking tuners. I installed them on my PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo. Installation took about 5 minutes and after hours of play, I really like the way my guitar stays in tune. I would recommend watching a YouTube video before you install. I believe the new tuners has also improved the look of the headstock as well. I have locking tuner on my other PRS guitar, so I knew this would be a quality product.

Top Notch Quality !

By Ken Stack from Silver Lake Wisconsin on March 17, 2021 Music Background: Advanced beginner

These locking tuners look really nice and I am sure they will fit perfectly. Unfortunately I have not installed them yet. I am waiting for my first string change to do that. When that happens I will gladly write a review but as I stated before I am sure they will fit perfectly and do the job they are supposed to do just fine.

Great Upgrade for PRS SE Guitars

By Erwin Friedrichs from Cincinnati, OH on February 22, 2021 Music Background: Retired semi pro musician

I have a 2010 PRS SE Custom 24 guitar. I really love the tones and playability of this guitar. I was starting to have tuning issues so I thought I would change to locking tuners. So glad I choose the PRS ones. They were easy to install. After installing these I installed new PRS strings did a intonation set up. After initial string break in, the guitar feels and sounds like new.

No more tuning issues!

By Thomas Mott from CAMBRIA, WI on February 7, 2021

My PRS SE Custom 24 would not stay in tune at all, especially when using the trem bar. Now that I have installed the locking tuners, I have no issues whatsoever! No I plan on buying another set for my other SE. Definitely worth it!

Dropped right into my 2009 Singlecut SE

By Craig M. Jamieson from Boise, ID on November 19, 2020 Music Background: Hack player but learning:)

I wanted to upgrade the tuners on my singlecut and wanted something that would be easy to install. I was looking at Grovers but Tyler at Sweetwater suggested that these would be the best choice. Still, I took it to my luthier just in case. They fit perfectly and work awesome! Thanks, Tyler!

Nice to have for quicker string changes

By Len McWilliams from Maryland on November 15, 2020

I replaced the stock tuners on my PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo.

Followed the YouTube directions given by PRS techie, James "Skitchy" Zimmers.

I also followed the guidance provided multiple times in purchaser comments to use the screws from the stock tuner mounts (rather than the screws provided with the locking tuners). The provided screws do seem to have a slightly smaller diameter.

Clearly, quick string changes and initial string stabilization are advantages to these locking tuners. This makes them a "nice to have".

But, I'm skeptical about other claims I've heard:

1. Tuning stability

There *is* less string wrapped around the tuning post. But if the strings are properly wrapped on standard tuners, I doubt that the difference would really be noticable. Perhaps using a whammy bar might show some difference.

String quality, properly wrapping the string around the tuning post, initial stretching of the string, and free string movement at the nut and bridge seem likely more significant factors contributing to tuning stability.

2. Pitch control

The SE locking tuners have a gear ratio of 18:1--the same as the stock tuners. So, no gain there.

3. Quality

The gear mechanism of the stock PRS SE tuners feels the same as the locking tuners. Their quality feels the same. I haven't noticed any gear slippage in the stock tuners. The stock and locking tuners may even be identical inside. Only PRS can confirm.

4. Improvement in guitar tone

This really seems unlikely to me. The strings vibrate between the nut and the bridge. And, a huge number of other factors determine the guitar's tone. I don't see how the string attachment at the tuner could produce a perceivable effect on guitar tone.

Makes changing strings easier

By Len McWilliams from Frederick, MD on November 14, 2020

I installed the tuners on my PRS SE II Hollowbody Piezo guitar.

Followed the advice--suggested in many reviews--to use the screws from my old tuners. The stock screws appear to be slightly larger diameter (don't have a micrometer to confirm).

Look for great directions on how to install from James Skitchy Zimmers at PRS.

FYI, the stock tuners have a gear ratio of 18:1. The locking tuners are also 18:1. So there's no gain there.

Not sure how much tuning stability I gained with these tuners. The quality of the stock tuners seems to be at the same level.

But changing strings will certainly be easier.

Great drop in upgrade for PRS SE

By Jason on November 13, 2020

I recently ended up getting two SE series guitars. Being used to having the locking tuners on the USA PRS, I was looking for some drop in upgrade locking tuners that still had the PRS aesthetic to them and these SE locking tuners were a great option. I bought them for both an older SE with the old headstock logo that says SE 245 on it and a newer SE with the PRS se script on the headstock. The locking tuners fit both perfectly, drop in install that took only a few minutes, and they function just as I expected. If I ever get another SE, I will buy these again.

Fairly easy install for upgrading your SE

By MC from LIttleton, CO on November 12, 2020 Music Background: Enthusiast

PRS actually has a YouTube video to walk you through the fairly straight-forward install (with a couple of nice bits of advice included in the 5+ min video).

Once installed, they are easy to use and tune up really well as expected for such high quality tuners as they are. The come with the raw brass shafts which are intended to help with tone and sustain.

The only problem I had with the kit was that the small wood screws that came with it to screw down the back of the tuners were too small to fit into the same holes of the existing screws on my 2017 Tremonti SE. I merely used the old screws which worked out perfectly, no worries...

If you're going this route, it'd be a good time to upgrade the SE's nut as well.... This occurred to me during my install.

Perfect locking tuners for your PRS SE

By Dave from New Mexico on November 11, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

I bought a used PRS singlecut, which desperately needed new tuners. These tuners hit the mark, they drop in easily. They sound good, they look good too! They keep the guitar in tune. Easy direct replacement of your current SE tuners. No new holes! The shipping from Sweetwater was super fast, had the tuners at my front door in two days!!!! Nate was awesome as always! Thanks again, Sweetwater

Works great!

By Sweetwater Customer on October 18, 2020

No-drama drop-in replacement for the standard SE tuners. As others have noted, the screws provided with the kit aren't the right size, but who cares? The original screws work fine, as well as the original collars. Having locking tuners with brass posts far outweighs minor discrepancies in attaching hardware that you don't need anyway.

Great upgrade

Upgrade Immediately

By Sweetwater Customer from MD on August 25, 2020 Music Background: Disco afficianado

I had my Tremonti SE for a year before doing this and wish I had done so earlier. Install is super easy, they look great though I was concerned beforehand about brass with all nickel hardware otherwise--it's fine. I do believe I gained some tuning stability.

Only knocks were that included screws were too small (save and reuse your originals) and the packaging was poorly considered (big box relative to whats inside, loose thumb screws though none got lost, and parts that were embedded in a block of foam and difficult to remove.)

PRS SE Locking Tuners

(Huge thank you to everyone who said that the screws that come with are too small.) They look great, they work as advertised. I ordered 2 more sets. 1 set for me SE Alex Lifeson acoustic, and 1 set for my semi-hollow SE with tremolo.

Very easy to install.

By David Bunch from Bedford, IN on August 10, 2020 Music Background: Church and studio musician

I installed these in 30 minutes and was re-tuned. You have to match them to the originals. Each string had a different tuner.

Tuning stability and easy restring. Get them. Huge difference on my 245SE

Super easy to install and upgrade.

As advertised. It took about 20 minutes to upgrade the whole set-up. PRS has a great youtube tutorial for folks who need it. Great sound. Keeps in tune after you stretch your strings.

PRS locking tuners

By Frank Annicaro from Dumont, NJ on August 2, 2020

Recently purchased a Locking Tuner set from Geoff at Sweetwater. The change over from the stock Custom 24 SE tuners was simple and straight forward. Although the tuners didn't cure my tuning stability, they do make for ease of string replacement. I ended up cleaning up the nut slots and lubed them. It's a beautiful thing! Thanks again Sweetwater!

Perfect

By KEVIN COWART from HUNTSVILLE, AL on August 1, 2020

Replaced the tuners on my 245 SE Standard. Not because the originals were bad, I just wanted easier string changes and tuning stability. These 100% fit and keep that PRS classiness we all want.

Let me give some tips I learned the hard way: 1. Only tighten finger snug, don't torque them down they will break. 2. If you are repeatedly loosening and re-tightening to adjust and check your intonation you will snap strings, this is just normal physics, so use old or cheap strings to adjust intonation.

Great Upgrade For Any PRS SE Guitar!

By Michael Strippoli from Orlando, Florida on July 18, 2020 Music Background: Guitar Player - Leaving Haven

I put these in my SE277 Baritone. I was slightly skeptical as to whether or not they would suffice with the higher string gauges. I was looking to go up to a .72 on the low string. They were just a hair too small for the .72 so I drilled out the lowest strings tuning machine with a 5/64 drill bit and voila, a perfect fit. Installation including the drilling was under 20 mins. The tuning stability is noticeably better, as well as the sustain. A must have for SE owners! Oh and don't be afraid if you have to drill one out a little for the baritone. It was far easier than it sounds!

PRS SE Locking Tuners

By Will Autry from Raleigh, NC on July 6, 2020

I currently own 4 PRS SE guitars - a SE Custom 24, SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollowbody, a SE Custom 24 Floyd Rose and a recently purchased SE PRS Hollowbody II Piezo. I have always installed Schaller locking tuners on these guitars shortly after purchase (with the exception of the one fitted with the Floyd Rose system) as they are a perfect fit and require no modification. On the SE Hollowbody II Piezo, I decided to install the PRS SE Locking Tuners.

First, The price was comparable to the best price I found on the Schallers. Also, the PRS SE Locking Tuners kept the aesthetic of the guitar in tact. After playing the guitar for about 10 days now, I can say that this was an excellent purchase. The tuning stability is solid, the weight of the tuning machines is close to the original tuners, and the look is pure PRS. I highly recommend these locking tuners - they perform great and the guitar look is all PRS!

Fantastic for Both the Electric and Acoustic

By Pucel from Canyon Lake, TX on July 1, 2020 Music Background: Worship Leader

My wife bought me these as a Father's Day gift! I knew that they fit my SE Custom 24, but was not 100% sure that they would fit my SE Angelus... they are a direct replacement for both! I am not a handy man, and was able to easily switch them out on both guitars without issue.

Personally, I prefer the aesthetics of the black tips on these over the original.

Must have for the PRS SE!!

By Rick R from Florida on June 30, 2020 Music Background: 40 plus years playing guitar

Since my first guitar with locking tuners did what I needed, I have used them ever since. I've been waiting for these to become available as a direct replacement for my PRS SE Tremonti (that I also bought from Anthony Longano). Literally took me 15 minutes to change out and restring. Simple! Now this already outstanding guitar is just the way I want it. No more tuning stability issues even when using the wammy!! As a reference, my most expensive guitar I ever had that I loved was a 2010 Ernie Ball Music Man JP6 Family reserve edition. I can honestly say I like this guitar even better, specially now that i replaced the tuners.

Get these if you want direct replacement locking tuners for your PRS SE. No doubt you will be glad you did.

Great Tuners

By Sweetwater Customer on June 24, 2020

I purchased an SE Custom 24 (w/Floyd) earlier this year and was pleased to shortly thereafter find that locking tuners specifically for the SE models were available.

Took minutes to install the tuners, less than that to restring.

Typical PRS Quality .. but

By JohnP from Chicago on June 15, 2020 Music Background: Been playing quite some time and still learning

These are exactly what I expected. Excellent PRS quality. Easy swap and came in nice packaging. Only one caveat, if you change from the original import tuners, save the wood screw that anchors the tuner on the back of the headstock. The screws that came with these replacements were too small. In other words, the major diameter of the thread on the new screw was smaller than the minor diameter of the thread in the hole. They slipped right in. Might be just my case, and the original screws off my Holcomb SE worked fine. Just don't throw them away.

Making guitar life more better

By Sweetwater Customer on June 15, 2020

PRS locking tuners installed on a SE Custom 24, took 15 minutes to install and tuning issues demolished ! probably the cheapest and easiest way to upgrade any guitar. You see the quality of these open gear tuners right away, a lot of machined metal and the ratio make these tuners well worth it.

EZ Swap Out...... Drop In & Screw into the same hole

By Randall from Nashville on May 10, 2020

Purchased a used PRS Tremonti SE and noticed the original tuners needing updated. SWEETWATER advertised the PRS SE replacement tuners. I purchased these tuners because of the drop in & screw" design. Replacement could not have been easier. Plus the tuners are locking style for quick string changes.

PRS Locking Tuners SE - Yes They Fit PRS Acoustic

Awesome for PRS Baritone!

By Jeremy Rae from Winchester, MA on April 27, 2020

I was worried that when I put these on my PRS Mushok Baritone I would have to drill but to my surprise I put a .68 in there with no problem. I think I could probably squeeze a .72 in there but I think thats the most that would fit. So PRS Baritone guitarists have no fear these are awesome!

PRS Low locking tuners for SE models

I was very impressed after installing them have so much more sustain in sound!

Major improvement!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 5, 2020

Installed these on two of my PRS SE models. Not only did they improve tuning stability, the feel and tone was better. I believe that the brass poles are the big difference maker with the feel and tone. Very noticeable and steps the guitars up to higher level of quality...

I replaced the stock tuners with these Locking Tuners on my new PRS Charcoal Burst and it is wreath the money. It took me about thirty minuets to replace the old ones re string and tune up and start playing again.Totally less string slippage so there is less tuning to be done.Sweet water processed my order and got them out to me in three days. Not Bad.If you want better locking and tuning with the PRS Logo on the tuners get these you will say it was wreath the money.

By Rob from VA on March 4, 2020 Music Background: Hobby

I use 13-62 gauge dadarrio strings on my PRS SE Mike Mushock baritone. I was worried these tuners wouldn't be able to accept that thick of string. However they totally do I think 62 is definitely the highest string gauge they will accept.

Perfect fit

By JG from Southern Ca. on February 14, 2020

These Locking tuners are great. Only took about five minutes to change out. Re strung guitar and played for a long time using tremolo and they held tuning perfect. They look great fit perfect and I am extremely happy I purchased the tuners. If you own a PRS Se guitar I recommend these tuners.

Must Have!!

By Bruce from Ohio on February 5, 2020

Great addition for PRS SE guitars. Comes packaged very well and feels solid. Only complaint is the screws the tuners come with are smaller than the original screws. Not a big deal as I just used the original screws. Even with that I still think this is a 5 star product.

Great tuner replacements for my SE Paul's Guitar

By Bradley Huett | Muse Guitarist from Philly Area,, PA on January 20, 2020 Music Background: Professional Guitarist, Composer, Engineer and Producer at museguitarist

The tuners on the SE Paul's Guitar are not worthy of the high quality of this SE guitar.

I had my Sale Engineer bundle these tuners in with my guitar purchase for a great value add.

The tuners do not just drop in, they require a significant bore to make them fit.

This can be done with a good reamer and a cordless variable speed drill.

It is worth the time and effort as these are worthy of the SE Paul's Guitar.

Great SE replacement tuners

By Sweetwater Customer on January 12, 2020

Just installed these on a 2003 and 2019 SE... the 2003 SE had the same small screws as the new locking tuners, while the 2019 SE had larger screws (as others have noted, I just used the original screws)... thought that was interesting...

Also, the hole for the string to go thru was closer to the headstock for the new locking tuners resulting in a little more back angle after the nut... might result in more stability?

Over great quality that you would expect from PRS and the same weight as the original tuners, so no neck dive... highly recommended!!!!

If you own an SE and were not happy with the other options for locking tuners like me, then these are perfect. They're quality built, drop right in, no drilling etc, and they're brass studs to top it all off. They look and function perfect.
I love these!

They do the job.

PRS Se locking tuners

By Sweetwater Customer on November 18, 2019

The PRS locking tuners are a perfect upgrade to my semi-hollow body se. a direct replacement. A better choice than the grovers. I’m replacing those with some PRS tuners next!

Upgrade without doubt

By Steven VanEtten from Ohio on November 17, 2019 Music Background: Getting way too seasoned.

I had replaced the original tuners on my SE for locking Grover Minis ... which had many issues. The worst being the un-fixable tendency to 'snip off' the high B and E strings with their 'automatic locking' action. I tried smoothing down the contact points but I lost many strings over the course of my time with those. I eventually resolved this issue by double winding through those two pegs. Not cool.

So ... I jumped all over these when I heard they were coming out. No surprise, they work and feel just like my pure-bred PRS tuners. No issues at all. For those, like me, who have found a 'special' SE (Seriously, the wood just has the right Karma on mine ... and I own Marylands. ) this is the simple step to bring it up several notches. The newfound reliability will definitely make this my go-to bar gig star.

Just the product I would expect from PRS

By Scott Kennedy from Louisville, KY on November 13, 2019

The tuners arrived in great condition and well packed at the factory. Installation was a breeze as you would expect from an original equipment manufactures part. They work great they look great and that is why I love them.

Smooth

Perfect. A breeze to install a new set of strings as expected. Smooth turning. Smooth tuning. No drilling. Really easy to install.

Excellent tuners

By Phil Morrell from YUMA, AZ on February 19, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyists

I upgraded my Tramonti SE this week with PRS SE locking tuners. Installation was a breeze. Tuning stability was never an issue with this guitar I just like the convenience of locking tuners. Some people wrap the strings a turn or so, I just pull the string hard through the eye of the tuner and lock it down then tune.

Be sure to keep your old screws!

By William Nelson from Jackson, TN on September 27, 2021

I replaced the standard tuners with these PRS Locking Tuners on my SE Custom 24. Mine is one of their Korean manufactured guitars. As advertised, these tuners are a direct replacement for the original tuners. But in my case, the small wood screws that are provided to hold the tuners in place on the back of the headstock were too small in diameter. They would actually insert into the hole without engaging the threads at all. A simple fix - I simply re-used the screws that I removed from the old tuners. So just a word of caution to be sure and hang on to those old screws until you are certain the new ones fit. Other than that, the new tuners work great.

Do the job!

By Paul MacMillan on April 29, 2021

They lock, stay in tune, smooth function, perfect replacement for PRS SE standard pegs.

Excellent as usual for PRS and Sweetwater

By Sweetwater Customer on November 3, 2020

Very nice and easy to install.. And, after installing, re-stringing was easy.. The product itself is worth 5 stars, but the screws that came in the set were smaller than the original screws... They wouldn't tighten so I had to use the original screws... I don't know if my guitar was an exception or if that is intentional from the factory.. The back of the headstock has indented pockets that made aligning the new tuners easy.. However, if you don't have a 10mm socket or wrench, installation might be harder, but not impossible.. The quality of the guitar and tuners are excellent.. I am very happy with both..

Big improvement in tuning stability for my SE

By Sweetwater Customer on June 25, 2020 Music Background: amateur musician

I installed these tuners on my PRS SE Custom 22. Boy, what an improvement over the stock tuners! Turning the pegs on the old tuners just always felt a little sloppy. These feel precise and much easier to dial in to spot on pitch. The guitar now stays in tune much better from session to session. And, most importantly, stays in tune when using the tremolo. PRS should really make these stock on all SE series guitars equipped with tremolo bridges evening if it means increasing the guitars' MSRP. I did knock off 1/2 star because, like others have mentioned, the supplied screws are too small and can't be used in the existing screw holes. You need to use the screws that came with the stock tuners.

Great, but expensive

By Ken from MI on June 15, 2020 Music Background: Bedroom wanking since 1996

I've been a fan of locking tuners ever since I first tried them on my Carvin Bolt-T kit guitar. They make changing strings so much easier! When I ordered my PRS SE, Sweetwater suggested these. I immediately added them to the order. They look great, they feel great... the only thing, is they cost about 50% more than what I would have bought otherwise.

Works perfectly, only one caveat

By Sweetwater Customer on January 9, 2020

These things are really be a great upgrade to any SE model that has a tremolo bridge. Easy to install yourself, everything lines up perfectly as you'd expect with a drop-in upgrade. The only reason I took off a 1/2 star was because the screws that came with these were smaller than the screws that came stock on my Tremonti SE, so make sure you're careful not to strip the stock screws when taking them out. You'll need to use them instead of the ones provided.

Locking Tuners

By Andrew W. from Bend, OR on April 17, 2022 Music Background: Long time player, new guitarist.

Does what is says on the tin. Maybe a little expensive for what they are, but the fact they were a drop in replacement for the existing tuners makes up for lingering feelings of paying too much. Tuning stability seems better after playing with them for over a month but that might be due to switching to .11s from the stock .09s that came with the guitar. Either way I'm happy with the upgrade.

Excellent Upgrade, but Wrong Screws!

By Cameron C from IN on December 29, 2021 Music Background: Worship

Put these on my SE Custom 22, and I'm super pleased with them! Much easier to do a quick string swap, and though the jury is out on whether or not the brass posts will really help with sustain, it certainly doesn't HURT it! They're a solid item, like most PRS accessories out there.

I've taken one star off because in my set, the screws were a size too small. It's not a major issue, but I had to reuse the original screws on my guitar. For reference, mine was made in Korea.

If you're looking to upgrade your SE, I highly recommend these and a set of traditional lampshade knobs!

The PRS SE Locking Tuner Replacements Are Great, But…

By Dave Porter from Clearwater, FL on October 30, 2021 Music Background: Musician and Recording Engineer

The PRS SE Locking Tuner Replacements are good quality and function very well. They are a great, relatively inexpensive, upgrade to a PRS SE guitar that is compatible with them.

However, as I feared, when you install them you must be prepared for some of the screw-holes to be stripped when you attempt to screw the new tuners in-place since the same size screws are used with the new tuners. This problem can be easily solved however. Just wad-up a very small piece of paper and insert it into the stripped screw-holes and then screw the new screw into place. This allows the new screw to tighten properly, solving the stripped screw-hole problem.

Great tuners…except…I have an SE Paul’s guitar.

By Jeff Winters from Cleveland on July 5, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

These are high quality tuners for all PRS SE guitars, except, for the SE Paul's guitar. Because the Paul's guitar comes with vintage tuners from the factory, it's not simply a drop in situation as advertised. To make the new tuners fit, the shaft holes in the guitar have to be drilled and reamed out to 10mm. Then you have to drill six new mounting holes, since the original holes from the vintage tuners don't line up with the new ones. Then you have 12 holes from the old tuners to fill in and stain. A lot of work, but the end result is good, especially since there are no other locking tuners out there that would not require modifications on the SE Paul's model. This is the only SE model that requires the modification. For all other SE models the tuners are a drop in fit.

A remedy to out of tune strings.

By Mark T from Gig Harbor, Wa. on May 24, 2021

My 1st and 2nd strings would constantly go slightly out of tune causing my chords to sound rather sour. I got these locking tuners to remedy this problem. I gave a 4 star rating because it's too early to tell since my PRS Silver Sky is my main guitar.

Stays in tune and sounds better

By Yaknski from Usk, WA on July 30, 2020

I installed these on a PRS 35th Anniv. SE Custom 24. The guitar just wouldn't stay in tune. Installing these fixed that and now changing strings is really easy and faster. The guitar itself sounds subtly better with these tuners on as well, a bit more clarity and higher definition. Or was it the lampshade knobs I also installed? I highly recommned these for your PRS SE guitars.

PRS SE Locking tuners

Good Tuner Upgrade

By Jordan Billings from Woodstock, GA on December 28, 2019

These are great new locking tuner upgrade for my PRS SE Custom 24 - Trampas Green Quilted Maple - Sweetwater Exclusive. Gave it more sustainability with tuning and holding the tune. The negative is the screws that came with it are too small that the stock screws and slid into the pre-existing holes and could grab a thread. Visual inspection shows significant size difference. Would like the right screws for the future and ended up having to reuse the old stock screws. Not a big deal breaker but should come with the right screws.

Wish I knew they were coming out with these sooner

By Raph on October 15, 2019

Saw these pop up a day or two after my Daddario Auto Trim locking tuners from Sweetwater shipped. Lol. Would've had to drill new holes on my PRS PG SE. Wonder if I'd still have to drill new ones for these. Will be exchanging the Daddarios for these.

Prs locking tuners first time user

Was used to the bottom locking tuners they worked well.
When I had the prs locking tuners installed when I recived the guitar starting playing the high e string snapped within the first 5 min. So I was upset !!!
I went on you tube checked out the video for locking
Tuners installation and string installation for PRS locking tuners.
Learned a lot !!! So I put a new high E string through
The tuner and tightened the tuner .
All is well had the guitar for a month no string breakage.

Not as good as other brands - for four reasons

By JFairweather from Dallas, TX on December 4, 2020

I have Fender locking tuners on my Strat and PRS locking tuners on my Santana SE. The Fenders (which I presume are licensed from Spersel or another manufacturer) are far superior and for four reasons.

1) The Fenders have a nice scallop on the post, making it easy for the string to slip right into place when spinning up and to wind without any overlap. The PRS have a much smaller scallop so you either have to align the string carefully or do what most people with the PRS tuners do, which is to ignore the scallop and get down to business.

2) The competing tuners have a large wheel on the back whereas the PRS tuners have a screw that fits into the post from the front. The large wheel is easier to turn and as it is rear-mounted, it doesn't affect the appearance of the instrument.

3) The PRS tuners have black front-mounted thumb screws. The black looks terrible on anything but a black peghead and it is visually distracting. I want people to pay attention to the playing and not wondering what those six black spots are. One might hope that, at the very least, PRS will come up with chrome or polished nickel thumb screws that match the rest of the peg. Frankly, I think that black was chosen specifically to draw attention by PRS owners with the intention of upselling the tuners. There is no other possible reason for this.

4) As the PRS uses front-mounted thumb screws, you have to pay attention when changing strings or the string may slip above the post and drop into the spot between the post and the head of the thumb screw.

In summation, the PRS tuners are more of a headache and they don't look all that great. Overall, the PRS locking tuners are okay, but they are like comparing a top-of-the-line Hyundai to a Mercedes. This second-best design is the result of PRS not wanting to pay royalties for a better design.

If I had known, I would have looked for another brand.

These work but get Gotoh's instead

By Disco from Minnesota on February 5, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist, composer, engineer

I have a PRS hollowbody that came with these on it. They do the job-but I'm glad I didn't pay for them! I also have many Ibanez with Gotoh locking tuners. The PRS are a top tightening type that don't look as clean (IMO) and have a "flathead screw" kind-of lock. After using the Gotoh's I found these irritating. And the PRS are double the price! I love the rear dial on the Gotoh's. I also have a PRS custom 24 so I bought a Gotoh set for it and I love it. Look great (look original actually), work great, and half the price. Do yourself a favor-save money, get a better product (no offense PRS-your guitars are killer!) and get a dial style locking tuners. (PRS logo is on the back anyhow so no one will notice) In pic Gotoh locking on green 24 and PRS locks on red Hollowbody.

PRS SE Locking Tuners

By Sweetwater Customer on May 9, 2023

Be aware, the PRS SE Locking Tuners will not just drop in to the new SE McCarty 594 with the stock vintage style tuners. You will have to enlarge the peg hole for them to fit. Bummer!!!

Absolutely awful

By Jonathan from Near Nashville on March 9, 2023 Music Background: Professional. Gigging and recording guitarist

I got these because they were a direct replacement on my Custom 24 se. I have a core Custom 22 Artist model with the real deal tuners. These are absolute junk! They are no better at all than the stock se tuners! They just have the locking portion. They are jumpy, not smooth to turn, and made no difference to my tuning stability (and yes, I had a new new nut installed professionally as well). These are just a cash grab with the PRS name on them. I should have gotten the Grover Rotomatic locking tuners I normally install. Now I'm out a lot of money, and will still have to buy new tuners. Absolutely dissatisfied with this product. And the worst part, I can't return them once installed.

Does no fit on SE PG

By Raph on December 4, 2019

I'm sure they're great but they don't fit on the SE Paul's guitar which have kluson style tuner mounting holes. You'd have to bore out the headstock and add a third new screw mount hole.
