Perfect Guitar for me!

By Donald Glenn from Bedford Heights, OH on January 3, 2024 Music Background: Church Musician plus Cover Band

I currently own over 20 guitars all having been purchased mostly on appearance or looks alone. I decided to travel from Ohio to Sweetwater in Indiana in search of the "perfect" guitar that feels, sound and lastly looks good. I visited stores in my area and searched online and compiled a list of guitars to try out. I then started my 3 hour journey to Sweetwater. I arrived and the only issue I had was they could not find my appointment that I had made in advance but was quickly assigned a wonderful and accommodating sales Engineer. We went through my entire list of guitars plus some other. I knew already that I no. 1 on my list PRS SE HOLLOWBODY II PIEZO GUITAR and that after playing many many guitars became my final choice! I was able to have the setup/action lowered with some other miner tweaks and finally the perfect guitar. Now after 8 months and having the action lowered just a little bit more at a shop near me, I can write this review and say I love the sound, feel and look of this guitar! my mission was now complete and only wish that Sweetwater was a bit closer because I have never felt the warmth and attentiveness that had been given me. Thank you so much and I love my guitar!!!

Excellent

By TonyM from Simpsonville, SC on October 10, 2023 Music Background: 40+ years in music.

All around, more than I expected. Great humbucker sound, and excellent piezo sounds. Setup was spot on out of the box. I have a couple USA PRS' from the late 80's early 90's and this is on par. Quite impressive for an oversees build and SE model. Great all around piece with a ton of flexibility in sound.

So much Guitar for so little!

By Copperhand Don from St. Louis ( I can tell you why it’s the home of the Blues) on August 25, 2023 Music Background: Blues, Jazz, Progressive, Country, Rock.

I am absolutely Loving playing this Hollowbody II Piezo SE guitar and it has become my main go to instrument that I play daily. My '95 Standard Mahogany Core isn't getting played much for the last few months. I've only owned one Hollowbody before ( Ibanez AF75) and this guitar plays twice as good. The finish is better and more flawless than the Gibson LP Studio that I own. I can see no need to upgrade anything on this guitar at the moment. The action is great, I really don't expect perfection on an overseas made guitar in this price range. My '95 Standard has never needed any action work in almost 30 years. I don't feel a need to mess with anything on this guitar at this point. I'm playing through a vintage Vibro Champ and the tone is heavenly. I don't know if the pickups deserve the credit or if it is just a warmer fuller tone because it's a Hollowbody. It mimics everything from Pat Metheny Jazz to Frampton Comes Alive to funky R&B. I really love the pickups more than I expected I would. Working with Chris Leonard on this purchase was a delight, he picked out a lifelong keeper for me. Maybe he should pick my women!

Prs se piezo

By Johnne from Vermont on July 3, 2023 Music Background: 45 years original folk funk world groove

So far I have put series parallel switches in the humbuckers, refinished the neck, and added a single coil in between the humbuckers, still way cheaper than what they charge for us versions, and it's wicked versatile, just a great sounding axe hat I am not afraid to play out with, but the new pickup configurations makes a huge difference with the overdrives that I am using, LOTS of colors,

PRS SE Hollowbody Piezo

By Dale Waite from Newfield N.Y. on May 11, 2023 Music Background: Enjoy playing guitars as a hobby.

Great guitar! Lots of fun to play and has a wide number of tones by combining the Piezo with the humbuckers. The humbuckers are great sounding. The workmanship on this guitar is outstanding. Get one while they are on sale!

I'm very pleased with my new guitar. It's awesome.

By Sal from Ashville, Ohio on May 4, 2023 Music Background: I've been playing the guitar for almost 50 years and have a variiety of instruments.

The Peacock Blue finish is beautiful. It's an eye-catcher. The workmanship and build quality is equal to that of a much more expensive instrument. The pickups are smooth and pleasing. The piezo is the icing on the cake. My sales engineer Lucino Cioppa handled everyhing for me getting my new guitar set up to my preferences and getting it delivered to me quickly. Right out of the box it's a dream to play -- exactly as I wanted it. If you're on the fence about this one I'd say get it. It's hard for me to imagine anyone not liking this instument, and I'm pretty fussy. Thank you Lucino and Sweetwater for making this purchase yet another fun, and rewarding experience. I'm happy with my purchase!

Great guitar

By Jer from Fayetteville AR on March 3, 2023 Music Background: 60 years

Great guitar for 3-4 hour gigs. If I could find anything wrong I would change is…make the fret dots along the edge of the neck a bit larger. Difficult to see in a dim restaurant. I use a black felt tip and all is well. I love the smooth jazz sound and flipping over into come funky stuff.

SE Piezo

By Dave from Indiana on February 14, 2023 Music Background: Worship pastor/guitarist

I bought this guitar yesterday and I'm blown away at the quay of this guitar. It's stunning to look at and the tone and feel are of that on a much more expensive instrument. I played it "just to see" after another guitar I ordered just didn't fit right. As for the piezo it sounds great for an acoustic tone on a normal electric guitar. I love the fact I can go full mag pups or piezo on the fly and use them both together if so desired. Intonation is dead on and even though I'm a pattern thin fan this neck was comfortable playing within a minute or two.

Reversing neck humbucker

By John on February 6, 2023 Music Background: 50 year player of rock folk reggae worldgroove, I,ve tried it all.......

Flipping the neck humbucker around so the visible poles are closer to the bridge immediately made this pickup and the two pickups much more defined and beautiful. Easy to do and you can always put it back to stock. I also refinished the neck with gunstock oil, it's a three piece neck so you,ll see the joints but I like it a LOT better, great guitar, fun to gig with, piezo is superb. Add some delay verb and a nice transparent overdrive boost and you are in hollow heaven folks

An Experiment That Turned Out Well!

By Thomas Smith from Rochester Hills, MI on February 3, 2023 Music Background: 55 years or so of on and off playing/singing...

I have been playing/singing for seniors with a high-end Taylor Grand Auditorium supported by background tracks for about 4 years. I wanted to keep the acoustic flavor of my show, but lessen the volume/mediocre fidelity/feedback problems that come with trying to amplify an acoustic. Well, while browsing online, this PRS hollow bodied beauty caught my eye, and I was especially intrigued by the 2 outputs. I run the piezo pickup through a stereo pair of BOSE L1 Model IIs, and the humbuckers through a BOSS Katana-50 MKII. Now I am not a fancy lead guitarist - more of an old folk singer - but having a nice, clean "folky" guitar coming through the PA, and a Digitech RP360 Multi-fx sound coming from the Katana is far, far more full-bodied/interesting than anything I ever got out of my Taylor...

Now for the actual purchase...First a shout out to my agent at Sweetwater, Mr. Jeff Jent. Jeff has helped me for more years than I can count with the complexities of somebody-old-enough-to-know-better trying to keep up with the latest and greatest in music/recording gear. Jeff, Sweetwater should be proud of you!

I am using heavy gauge Elixir strings and combined with the PRS "wide, fat neck", it has an almost acoustic guitar feel to it when you play. It stays in tune great, and the TC Electronics Clip-on Tuner I use with it is the best tuner I have ever tried. I am 70 years old, and this is the first such instrument I ever had the courage to buy online, but the Sweetwater 55 Point Inspection process made sure I received it in immaculate condition...and for a couple of hundred extra bucks, they installed the PRS SE Locking tuners, the aforementioned Elixir strings, and set up the action for me. Heck, they even did all this and got the beautiful thing into my anxious hands within a week and a half!

I realize I went on and on about this "experiment" of mine, but I wanted to make sure someone out there considering a similar move had the real story. If you take this plunge, you won't regret it!

Fantastic Guitar!

By Kevin from Louisville KY on January 20, 2023 Music Background: I'm 60 and started guitar at 10 years old.

I've had this guitar for a few months now and It's fantastic! The build is flawless. The Peacock Blue finish is beautiful and the flame maple binding is very snazzy! The 58/15"S" pickups sound great clean and sound incredible on higher gain settings. The design of this hollow body provides plenty of sustain and very manageable feedback at high gain settings which makes it a lot of fun. It has the sustain of a semi-hollow and the glassy fullness of a full hollow body and doesn't feedback unless you intend for it too. It's the perfect balance. The acoustic sounds of the piezo bridge are awesome ran through my Acoustic amp. It sounds just as good as my Gibson J-180EC through the amp. I love to run the piezo through the acoustic amp and the mag pickups through a good tube amp and it sounds amazing. The tonal possibilities are nearly endless.

Mine weighs just over 6 lbs. It is very comfortable on a strap and is not neck-end heavy. I love the wide fat neck. It fits my hand great. The pots and caps seem to be of very good quality with a smooth full taper. The mag pickups clean up great when you roll down the volume control. The volume and tone controls both work very well. The factory set-up wasn't bad but the string action was a tad high for my taste. I usually tweek the set-up on a new guitar and all I needed to do was slightly lower the bridge and the action is nice and low without any fret-buzz. This is the top of the SE line and the looks, playability, quality and tone is on par with American made instruments of the same or higher price. This purchase was a home run!

the truth really is

By dp from usa on January 13, 2023 Music Background: 60 yrs

its a China guitar. its has that feeling. buy one go ahead but after a while you will be selling it, if you can, and getting a real guitar. heavy neck vs a light body..you do the math. they went cheap on the birds and the neck binding is very distracting as it has painted lines all the way up . but what do I know you might love it then again not..remember it says china on the back of the head stock and se {student edition} on the front. cant say how long the guitar will last but its your money but I must say they are nice looking..

Hollowbody SE Piezo

By Chris from Lancaster Tx on December 22, 2022 Music Background: Played 30+ years

Sounds great, plays great, awesome electric tone, both clean and dirty, and very good acoustic tone through the Piezo output. Mine's only 6.5 lbs and very comfortable to wear. Some nice useful feedback while playing with higher gain settings. Really nice flame maple binding around whole body, neck, headstock, and f-holes. I'm very happy with this guitar.

Super nice guitar.

By Paul Heath from SEVERNA PARK, MD on September 20, 2022

Mr first PRS, and it's a great instrument. I have been playing it every day since it came. It joins a Strat, tele, and Collings i35 in the electric category. The hollow body fills a nice spot, and the piezo sound is remarkably good. It certainly punches above its weight with maple binding, nice inlays, and perfect fit and finish.

Amazing Guitar - Great Service!

By Eric on August 19, 2022

This guitar exceeds every expectation I had for it. The build quality is impeccable and I'll never doubt PRS' quality control combined with Sweetwater's. It played great right out of the box! Love the open, clean sound of the hollowbody, but this takes dirt extremely well too. The piezo, while not a Martin disguised as a PRS, is pretty phenomenal and adds to the versatility that this guitar offers. Shout out to Greg Lanning! His response time, professionalism and care throughout the process was a game changer. Already looking to purchase my next PRS SE from Greg!

Thankful for Ben Porter

By Samuel McIntire from Morriston, FL on July 5, 2022

Recently my house burned down and I lost a lot of my instruments, multiple guitars (including the first guitar I ever owned), mandolin, amps, etc. When I reached out to Ben he was quick to listen and slow to speak. His customer service was above and beyond that of hundreds of other phone calls I had made. After we chatted he help me acquire this guitar and an amp. I am thankful to know that there are still men like Ben in the world, full of character and grace. Ben even thought about strings and a guitar strap, items I had lost in the fire that I had overlooked. Bottom line this guitar is beautiful and sounds amazing. If you need a sales rep, contact to Ben Porter. You will not be sorry you did.

Found the perfect guitar for my needs!

By Rich from Pittsburgh PA on June 6, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate level guitarist

First and foremost I want to thank Charlie Davis, my sales engineer for sometime now. When I finally decided on the Peacock Blue finish, there were none on stock. However, Charlie contacted me to let know there was a demo model available. I was so happy! Price discount with a relatively minor defect. Good deal.

Why I really like this guitar;
- The versatility of this guitar is amazing. The piezo pickup is the best I have ever heard.
- After many guitars, the 14" lower bout body is a very comfortable fit for myself.
- The PRS "wide fat" neck profile is a joy. You don't need large hands to enjoy it.
- The weight is about 6lbs. 8ozs. A very lite weight feel to it.
- Some people have criticized the price. In my opinion the fit, feel and finish is similar to much more expensive guitars I have owned.

Finally the guitar is just beautiful. The multiple view photographs Sweetwater provides really does an excellent job of seeing exactly what you are buying.

Sweetwater---> Excellent service with personal sales engineer assigned to you. 55 point checkup before you get the guitar. Seamless customer service, the best I have experienced over the years.

Absolutely amazing guitar

By John from Vermont on June 3, 2022 Music Background: 50 years acoustic and electric player, originals and difficult covers, world groove. Funk, country rock reggae

So I waited till I had run the piezo through the pa before the review, and yes is is really convincing, but also the way this guitar strums is uniquely almost acoustic like, chalk thqt up to the bigger neck which I wondered about at first. Tuners seem to be made by Grover and are pretty good, the humbucker s are Hot! Had to lower them quite a bit, especially bass side of neck pickup, pretty bassy. Otherwise, I have been a strat guy for years, but. This guitar. Has a beautiful tone, I especially like the mid position, a little bit of snarl, a little bit warm, kinda like a 335, going back and. Forth between the two sounds is a little more. Involved than just switch flipping, but I got used to. It and it became intuitive very quickly, my band loves it, the tone is so good you just kinda play less notes, cuz the ones you play are so. Pretty. I use it with some really nice overdrives and a couple of delay pedals, not much else, and it actually does a fairly decent slide. Guitar sound, although nothing really touches an sg with p 90s in it for thqt. The workmanship is very nice, I even got the demo version and it was hard to find the scratches, I hesitated because of the price but I should not have. If you want a guitqr thqt can do almost everything except that strat quack then this is a semi affordable solution, I mean who wouldn't want the 5000 version but cmon you,ll never take thqt to a gig, thqnks to ken nace for hooking me up. Haven't had a new electric sound in years, but this is utterly intoxicating, and for those of you with a little heavier rock in mind, great ballad guitqr, these humbucker s can scream if you let em. Beautiful PRS Hollowbody II Piezo SE

By Sweetwater Customer on May 27, 2022

First of all this guitar is beautiful. PRS really did a great job of matching both sides of the top and the color is better than I thought it would be. The tone is awesome and the build quality is great. I am very happy with this guitar.

Additionally, I brought a Fender Strat Player plus and I could not be happier with the quality and tone and flexibility.

Two guitars I will have for a lifetime.

Incredible

By Brandon from AUSTIN, TX on August 11, 2021

Before I begin, I just want to point out the importance of setup. I was originally unsure whether or not I would keep this guitar, because it hurt my hand and wrist after only a few minutes of playing. I tried playing it as it came for a few days, but ultimately had to get in and fix the action. I'm not sure if PRS set the action or someone at Sweetwater did, but they may have used the Grand Canyon as their point of reference. It took me several days of alternating between tweaking and playing. The bridge and truss rod required massive changes. Finally, I fixed intonation on the saddles and lowered the pickups. At this point, there is zero discomfort.

With setup out of the way -- let me start by saying this guitar is downright gorgeous. I'm not even sure that the professional photos or videos I saw were able to do this guitar justice. The peacock blue color and the burst that accompanies it is simply stunning. The maple binding all the way around this thing oozes class and really elevates the aesthetic. I have never paid much attention to binding on my guitars after 24+ years of playing. This one made me take notice -- it's just that lovely. The bird inlays are magnificent though being real abalone shell, they will vary by guitar. For example, the birds on my A60E are much more muted than those on my Piezo. I can't speak for every serial number, but the inlays on my Piezo are gorgeous. My one complaint is that the blue version doesn't come with lampshade knobs, while the black gold version does. I don't understand why that difference exists, but I do think the lampshade knobs look classier, so I swapped mine out. There are also some hard lines in my veneer. The back is perfect but the front of the guitar is quite obviously veneer. This of course will vary by serial number, and some will look more convincingly like real wood than others.

As for sound, I don't have an acoustic amp so I run it in mixed mode through my amp (Blackstar HT Club 40 Black and Blue). Let's start with the magnetic pickups (58/15 "S"). A pleasant surprise: these things are actually quite hot. I thought being a hollowbody it might not get too dirty without massive feedback. However, I have cranked the gain on the overdrive channels and this thing handles it beautifully. The bridge just screams without any noticeable feedback or hum – certainly not any more than I get with my Epiphone Les Paul. For clean tones I tend to use the neck or mid position. The neck pickup is incredibly warm, and you can get an excellent bluesy tone out of it or the middle position. Go neck pickup only and roll back the tone knob a bit to get the jazziest of jazz tones (then add a touch of piezo!). All in all, I'm actually very impressed with the pickups. They are articulate when you want them to be, but also very warm and can handle loads of gain without issue. I much prefer them to the humbuckers in my Les Paul, without question. Despite being double cut and a hollowbody, they still have a surprising amount of chunkiness. But if that ultra chunky sound is what you're after, this may not be your guitar. A single cut solidbody might be more up your alley.

The piezo system adds an additional special something to the tone. Even though it's all going through my electric amp, I love the sound this thing creates on a clean setting with a touch of the piezo added to the neck or mid position. I roll the magnetic pickup volume to about 7 or 8, then roll the piezo between 2 and 5. It just adds a new sonic dimension and so much presence. I wish I had an acoustic amp to test splitting the outputs, but even running to an electric amp in mixed mode it's capable of producing some fairly convincing acoustic tones. Does it sound exactly like my acoustic? No. But it still sounds great, is fun to play around with, and great to mix in with the magnetic pickups. I have plugged directly into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and done some recording in GarageBand. The piezo sounds excellent and full. In fact, I'm probably going to re-record some chords I played in a lead section with the piezo instead of the magnetic pickups. The chords from the magnetic pickup track just sound so thin by comparison.

Unlike most (all?) other instruments in the SE line, this one includes a hardshell case. The storage compartment is fairly minimal, but it's still really nice to get a real case instead of a gig bag. It won't accommodate much more than a strap, a tuner, and some picks however. On the plus side, given the light weight of the guitar and the small footprint of the case, it's very easy to haul around.

Besides lampshade knobs, PRS SE locking tuners are a nice addition as well. The stock tuners didn't work very well when I first got the guitar, but after fixing the action they mostly stayed in tune. The same SE tuners on my A60E stay perfectly in tune for literally weeks, so it may just be a bit of a gamble. To be fair, the A60E stays in its case with Boveda humidity packs when I am not playing it while the Piezo hangs on my wall. The Piezo is therefore subject to temperature and humidity fluctuations that the acoustic is not, so maybe that is why the tuners fall out more frequently. I installed the SE locking tuners and they stay pretty much in tune, plus it makes string changes a breeze.

Another thing I have been hoping to experiment with is an ABY pedal with multiple inputs. As it stands now, you have to roll the volume knobs on and off to swap between magnetic and piezo pickups. Being able to switch between them independently, or combine both pickup systems, all from a footswitch seems ideal. Especially if you're the only guitarist in a band, having an ABY pedal and a looper could really open up the possibilities to have acoustic and electric sounds going simultaneously.

In summation, this is the best electric guitar I have ever owned. It's downright gorgeous to look at, sounds great, and weighs almost nothing so you can play it for hours. The sonic possibilities are infinite, and when setup properly it's effortless to play. The only real cons I can think of are really more preference than anything. I prefer lampshade knobs on here. I can also see folks who may not like the wide fat neck profile (personally, I find it comfortable, and it's neither too wide nor too fat). Ultimately, I think PRS knocked it out of the park with this one. I basically do not play any of my other guitars anymore, except my PRS acoustic. I guess I'm noticing a trend...

PRS Hollowbody II Piezo - Sweet

Love this guitar. Listened to one and played it, thought it was awesome. Still getting used the feel and vast amount of sounds you can get that are better than pedals. Records, Plays, looks Very nice. Very good workmanship. Defiantly one of my best choices. Covers many music genres in my opinion. Great value for the money.

The best guitar I've ever owned...ever

By barry francis from Florida on July 13, 2021 Music Background: Life long player with some professional experience and success

Like a lot of guitarists, I've bought and sold a lot of guitars in search of the perfect guitar for me. Les Paul's, SG's, Stratocasters, Telecasters... I regret some of the decisions I made along the way. One of the biggest mistakes was selling my used-10-top-custom-22 from eBay. I found myself recently in a postion where I NEEDED a new guitar. I'd made a big life move and I needed an electric guitar to cover all of the music adventures I wanted to have. From writing and recording original music, to jamming with friends and cover bands across a world of genre's. I kept looking at this guitar and feeling like this was the right call.

I have absolutely no regrets. It's the best guitar I've ever owned. The neck feels like a PRS through and through. The weight is just right for marathon gigs. The magnetic pickups sound as good as any American made guitar I've ever played, outside of maybe custom shop (but tone get mighty subjective at this point as we all know). It's got enough brightness for shimmering cleans and enough depth to warm up when overdriven. It also takes higher gain stages really well. Then there's the piezo... it sounds as good as any mainstream acoustic guitar with a piezo I've ever heard. In fact, the LR Baggs pickup is not as quacky as a lot of the piezo systems I've tried. With a little TLC on the EQ side of things, it does a very authentic acoustic sound. Does it sound like a perfectly mic'd acoustic? No, but then I don't think any piezo equipped guitar ever will, unless there is some breakthrough in the technology on the horizon. Or maybe in the Taylor/Acoustasonic world of hybrid guitars. But even then.

Finally, the actual construction. This is where I really fall in love with this guitar. It's a true hollowbody. It resonates more than my Guild Starfire IV, which has a massive center-block running down the middle. It feels really lively. When I'm playing through an acoustic amp, it really helps with the feel of an acoustic in my hands with how the whole guitar vibrates like a giant tuning fork. I can't find a flaw in the aesthetics either. The finish is beautiful, the binding is immaculate and the birds are just the icing on the cake. I was expecting some compromise with this guitar being an SE but really it feels like a statement of what the China factory can produce. I honestly believe that the only thing holding this guitar back from being one of the modern greats is fact that we can't help but compare it with the carved top core model. I realized I miss the point with this guitar. PRS didn't cut corners in the design to make it cheaper. The redesigned it from the ground up. This is a new design. And it's flawless. Had it been made by another company as a new model, I could see the price being double to triple what they're asking for this thing.

Anyway... if you're thinking about it, in my opinion, you will NOT be disappointed. PEACE!

This is one amazing guitar, the Piezo pickup has such a clear acoustic sound, I was so impressed, the PRS SE model guitar is so versatile. PRS has done an amazing job providing this in and SE model. Once again I have to begin by singing praise to my phenomenal Sales Engineer Jerrod Demot. Jerrod is a great guy who understands guitars and does an amazing job ensuring that everything is communicated from order status to shipping to making sure I am happy with everything. Nick Church gave me, once again, outstanding service. This may be the prettiest guitar I have ever owned, what a looker. The more I saw it and the more reviews I read, I had to have one. What a fantastic instrument. The build quality is super top end, gorgeous maple binding, the top is phenomenal looking. Quality hardware, bone nut, what else could I want? Now the sound is super versatile especially when I want to blend in some acoustic sounds along with some electric or rock tones. I appreciate that since I am often the only guitarist.

PRS SE Hollow II PIEZO

By David Miles from Western NY on August 31, 2020 Music Background: Semi-pro since 72

Wow!
This is by no means my first electric guitar. It's not even my first with a piezo pickup. It's not my first from SWEETWATER. I'm 62 and I've owned, as well as played more than my share over the decades. I don't generally write reviews. Believe that! I'm taking the time, with good reason to comment on this PRS.
First I give thanks to Ryan and whoever set this guitar up. It was worth a few extra bucks to get it just the way I need it to be.
The build on the Hollowbody II ( SE ) Piezo is a wonder in itself. No seams in the binding, perfectly beveled frets, paint job to die for ( I got the blue ), high gloss to rival most American guitars and the list goes on. Top notch materials from the wood to the metal to the pickups to the wiring. Looks like an American PRS and sounds just as good.
The playability ( ebony fretboard ) is so smooth and easy that I like it more than my American Strat. Even the tuners are rock solid. Yes, it's made in China and in our Covid world that meant a 45 day delay. It was worth every single minute of wait. I can't put this thing down.
Watch YouTube. Out of 40 or so reviews, I found one person who didn't like it. Not because of anything important. Because of price. It's worth it ( again ).
Thank you PRS and SWEETWATER for getting me a stage worthy product at this reasonable price point.
PS: It sounds equally as good through tubes as digitally and by blending the piezo with the hummers, you can get recording quality tones. This guitar will never be resold. I may be buried with it. Martin HD-35 on one side and this beauty on the other.

Once again I have to begin by singing praise to my phenomenal Sales Engineer Mike Soper. Mike is a great guy who understands guitars, takes the time to understand what different people look for in their equipment and goes out of his way to make sure of the connection between an artist and their gear. Really appreciate all your help Mike!!!

The guitar is awesome. Very clean build and finish. Piezo sounds awesome. Neck pickup is matched very nicely to the axe. Tuners are a cut above the other SE's I've played with smooth and hold tune, if they were locking they'd be perfect. Guitar sounds great unplugged. Resonates nicely and has a good tone. I think I prefer the old piezo/humbucker switching/blending method (as on the core) but this setup should be workable live. Bridge pickup has a tad too narrow focus for me, but others may like. Overall very very happy with this guitar. Definitely worth the price of admission, and in fact a very good deal for all the appointments and quality.

Mmm... Nice!

I love the sound and feel of this guitar. It sounds warm and fat, and plays like butter. I'm fussy about appearance, and don't particularly like the color of either the blue (which I have) or the tobacco one, but I'm so impressed with the sound, feel, and absolutely excellent build quality of this instrument that I don't care about the color. Although I have not found a use for the piezo sound in a mix, it is actually quite handy, when coupled with a modeling pedal or software, for emulating an acoustic guitar without having to play one.

Pleasantly Surprised

Let me start by saying, I was somewhat skeptical about paying this much money for a guitar not made in the USA or at least Mexico. After having this guitar for a couple of months now, I can say that I am pleased with the performance and build quality. I am able to get a wide range of tones out of this guitar when paired with my BOSS Katana 100 MK II. It was setup for me at Sweetwater with my specific preferences and string gauge. The action is smooth and bends are a breeze with these frets. A big thanks to Matthew LaMarche for getting me the best deal possible and answering all of my questions.

Bottom line: This is a quality guitar that has gone directly into my rotation. I like being able to get all of the acoustic tones without stressing my fingers and hands on my Martin for hours. Things I would change: It would be nice if the master tone control also worked with the Piezo pickups and for this price point, locking tuners really should come standard.

Piezo Heaven

LOVE IT. Crank up that Piezo pickup in the nearly hollow body and you get the most phenomenal sound. The humbuckers though leave a bit to be desired. Thinking of replacing them with hotter ones.

Wonderful Guitar, but I learned a little lesson

By Sweetwater Customer from New Mexico, the state on June 18, 2022

I've had the guitar a little over two weeks and I'm very impressed with the quality and sound! I have a need for both acoustic and electric in my band. I paired it with the Spider V 120 MkII - the possibilities are endless. Now for the not-so-good news: Took it to a gig yesterday where we were playing outdoors in a park. I brought my extra batteries and strings for the mandolin but I didn't pack any supplies for the guitar because it's brand new, right? We go on stage and I discover that the battery is dead. Luckily, the sound people grabbed a 9 volt for me. But I mean, really? You pay that much money? The last thing I should be worried about on a brand new guitar is how long the battery should last, especially out of the box. Lesson learned. Can't give it 5 stars unfortunately, but per most of the other reviews out there, they pack a lot under the hood of this PRS.

PRS

Love it. The piezo pickup makes this guitar a rocker. The humbuckers not so good. Kind of surprised considering the price of the guitar that I had to switch them out. It is beautiful.

Really nice guitar for this price point

By David from Massachusetts on January 20, 2023 Music Background: Gigging musician

Overall, a really nice guitar, especially for the pricepoint and being an SE. The flame on the top is great (it's nice that Sweetwater allows you to view the actual guitar via serial number that you'll be receiving before buying), but the flame on the back is much nicer (too bad no one ever sees the back!). The non SE version has a toggle switch to select between the magnetics pick ups and the piezo (which I also have on a custom guitar I had built), not sure why PRS didn't include that, as I don't think it would negatively impact the price point so much. My solution for that was to build in on/off buttons on my Helix to be able to easily select between mag/piezo/both, but it does take extra switches on my Helix. The separate jacks for piezo and mags require 2 cables, because, let's be honest, who is really going to send the blended piezo/magnetic signal to one output source (??) most people will send the mags to an amp/pedalboard, and the piezo to a DI/board/separate pedal chain. Again, on my custom, I run a single stereo cable that sends 2 separated signals to my pedalboard. Given the dark burst edges and the black knobs, it would've been nice if PRS had done black humbucker trim rings instead of the white (perhaps they were trying to tie the white to the maple binding??), and PRS doesn't even offer these to replace/upgrade. The abalone on the bird inlays is really nice. The overall build quality is really good, from the binding to the headstock, adnd the finish. The guitar plays really nice; fret edges are very smooth, action is nice (once adjusted), and the wide fat neck is very comfortable. The magnetic pickups sound great, and contrary to some reviews, you can certainly get plenty of crunch and sustain from this hollowbody. The piezo, which is a big plus for me sounds great. I run it through a Helix w/ an IR and plenty of EQ adjustments, but out of the box it sounds really good. There is a little ambient noise (not through the electronics) on the piezo volume pot (which doesn't exist on the magnetic volume pot), but PRS says that's normal as these the 'piezo is a different valued component on the pc board, and as such will feel different from the magnetic volume pot' (??). It also would've been nice if the SE locking tuners were included, but for the price point, another hundred bucks isn't much to add for that feature. Shipping was fast, even with ordering a few days before Christmas it arrived the day after (it wasn't a Christmas present, so didn't need to be by the 25th). As mentioned, for the price point, a really nice guitar that plays and sounds well and looks great.

Great guitar, horible frets

By David from U.S. on December 30, 2022 Music Background: 40 years, LP lover

The sound, feel, and look of this guitar is outstanding. The versatility of the mags and piezo is off the chart and I really enjoy blending the sounds. Now the bad part, the frets are nickel and very soft. Every time I bend a string, it leaves metal shavings on the fretboard. I can feel (and hear, btw) the metal being filed off. Hopefully I got a reject and others aren't like this. If they are, I can't believe PRS thinks these frets are ok--very disappointing. If you're planning to play open chords and rhythm only, the guitar is a 5. If you're planning to use it as a lead guitar, I'd start putting away some $$ for a refret because it's totally unacceptable.
Take a look at the attached image; I wiped off the fretboard and then did about 10 full bends--you can see all the metal shavings.
The bottom line is that I'm really disappointed in PRS for letting these go to market. I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew this--now my only option is to pay for a refret since these are so bad.

Don't buy this guitar

By Liam from Michigan on April 19, 2024 Music Background: Professional musician

I've owned 2 prs seii hollowbody piezo Guitars.
The piezo failed after about 6 weeks after I purchased the guitar.
The piezo and the magnetic pickups failed in the second/replacement guitar.
Customer service at PRS was abysmal to say the least. Just getting in touch with customer service at PRS took days and they tried to refuse warranty work.

PRS builds a pretty guitar but when the instrument doesn't work, pretty isn't worth anything.

Buy Gibson, Fender, Schecter or even a cheap pos like First Act is a better choice than PRS.
