PRS SE Custom 24 Electric Guitar - Charcoal Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fretboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Tremolo - Charcoal

The Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 24 solidbody electric guitar puts the sound, playability, and gorgeous looks of the Custom line into a more affordable instrument. The PRS SE Custom 24's mahogany body and maple top now feature a more traditional "violin" body carve that gives it the feel of top-level Custom 24 guitars. A pair of 85/15 "S" pickups delivers a wealth of superb humbucking or single-coil tones. Its maple neck features a Wide Thin shape for comfortably fast playability, and the rosewood fretboard is adorned with old-school Birds inlays for that iconic PRS look. This guitar is a true PRS through and through, as well as being a great value — you don't have to be a touring rock star to enjoy the PRS SE Custom 24's exceptional tone and playability.

PRS SE custom 24

By Paul from Ohio on March 11, 2024 Music Background: Forever intermediate basement player

Got this for $ in faded blue burst. This guitar feels so solid. Not too heavy or too light. Tuners are tight, feel like ratio tuners. Nut cut right. Stays in tune better than most guitars. I'm most surprised by the split coil on the neck pickup & find myself in this position a lot.
Bridge pickup sounds a little too bright or brittle at times on (Boss Katana 50) in humbucker mode but that can be eq'd out. My tune amp can likely take that since it's a bit dark (Bugera V5 infinium).
Shout out to my sales rep Jonathan Appleton for ensuring that I was taken care of.

SWEET!

I just received my PRS SE custom 24 today. I have a wide array of guitars, but this just became my favorite. The sound is incredible. The look is awesome. The action is perfect! The only thing I wish were a little better is the trem bar is a little on the light side and could be a little more sleek looking. Otherwise, this guitar shreds!

Great Guitar - awesome service

By Patrick Mautner from Torrance, CA on December 18, 2023 Music Background: Decades long guitarist and music producer with my music streaming on various streaming services.

I previously wrote a review primarily about this amazing guitar, which is truly very much worth the price, and then some (see my other review when it posts). I am writing this second review because I failed to mention the awesome service that I have been receiving from Sweetwater for several years now. My current rep is Henry Moore who has been extremely helpful, and has provided such high-touch service, I continue to be impressed and I am a very happy, lifelong customer of Sweetwater! Thank you Henry, and Sweetwater!

Beyond impressed

For a guitarist who has a number of high-end guitars I wanted to try a couple of the PRS SE models, and wow I am very impressed. This model is so comfortable to play and the neck with the "wide-thin" profile is PERFECT for me! The pickups sound great, and the coil splitting option adds a wide range of tonal options. The build and finish are top notch! I chose the charcoal color with natural wood on the back and sides and it just looks great - I keep staring at it! I play through a Line 6 Helix for my recording process (and live), and I have been impressed with the sound quality with this guitar. If you have been considering this model, I strongly recommend you give it a try. The price is way more that worth the quality product you will receive. Just great!!

just WOW

I was not expecting this guitar to be this great. I own a top of the line Tremonti PRS which is amazing, but this custom 24 SE is just as smooth as my Tremonti guitar. Playability is great and the tone is amazing. Beyond happy with this purchase!

Blown away.

This is my 2nd PRS SE purchase and it was well-worth the money. This guitar can do everything. I play everything from Country to Pop to Heavy Metal and these stock pickups are way better than what the snobs say on YouTube. You can always get better pickups for a specific style you want to play but if you have a good handle on amp/tone controls, this will get you where you need to go.

The only thing I wish was for essentially $1,000, these should probably have locking tuners. Not even the low mass - just the SE version ones would suffice for quick string changes.

Sweetwater also did a phenomenal job with the setup as always.

Wasn't looking for another guitar but I'm Really Impressed with this PRS

By Gene from Auburn, WA on February 26, 2024

I really wasn't looking for another guitar, but doesn't everybody say that? Lol

Sweetwater sent me an email for a gear giveaway contest and this guitar was pictured. It piqued my curiosity so I clicked on it. I liked the way it looked, the price was very reasonable but I wanted to play one so I went to my local GC to try one out.

I am primarily a Strat player, so I am used to a bit of a narrow neck, but this was really nice to play and didn't take much adjusting to.

After talking with my Sales Engineer about a few things, I ordered it and boy am I glad I did!! This guitar is built really well, sounds amazing, plays amazing...I am over the moon happy about this purchase!! I bought an American Ultra Strat last year for twice what I paid for this PRS and the PRS certainly gives the Strat a run for it's money.

Being able to split the pickups is a cool feature that allows greater tonal flexibility too.

I'm really glad that I added this guitar I didn't need to my collection!!

Great guitar

Bought same model but on black-gray, factory set up its barely fair if not poor, guitar looks gorgeous though !!
Did a fine sand removal of the sticky lacquer from back of the neck, before my left hand got stuck all over the neck every time.
After a real pro setup this guitar its a monster, get one... just keep in mind a good setup has to be made.

The guitar is amazing. Sweetwater support not so much.

By Robert Rico from Smithfield, RI on March 13, 2024

The PRS SE Custom 24 is amazing. The quality for this level of guitar is very much appreciated. 2 months after receiving the guitar though, the pickup selector switch started cutting out when going to the bridge and neck pickups. I opened a case with support and sent videos of what I was experiencing. At first it was very intermittent but eventually it just stopped working when switched to the neck pickup.

Frank from support contacted me when I sent the first video and apparently it sounded to him like I simply needed contact cleaner. When I got back to him with another video exhibiting the pickup not working at all and I suggested that the switch was bad, his response was to simply copy and paste his previous statement that contact cleaner was needed. His response was to say that it's a common issue and he would only send contact cleaner. I was told that if I did not accept his solution then gave me a procedure to follow to determine if my guitar was still in warranty.

I took it to a local Luthier and they confirmed that the switch is bad and said that with a lot of the SE models, this switch is a weak link. The luthier replaced it with a switchcraft switch and it's working perfectly now. The total cost to replace the switch was $54.00 including the switch.

Seems like a small fix to keep a customer happy but not according to Frank apparently. I have purchased 2 PRS guitars, A Line6 PowerCab 212+ and Helix Native VBST plugin over the past 4 months. My business goes elsewhere now.
