If You're Looking For Big Rock Sound, Start Here
I purchased the Rock Warehouse in search for samples that suited my bands style as we just began recording our EP. The stock samples that came with SD didn't provide the pop-punk sound and punch we need. Which don't get me wrong, the stock samples are great for your modern day songwriter - they're completely usable across the board.
After installing these, you'll notice the difference is night and day. Even with just the dry sound I could immediately tell that the constructed kit would cut through the mix like a hot knife - which it did. Mix these with care, as they don't require too much mixing/processing to achieve realistic big rock sounding drums. Over-mix and you may not be completely satisfied.
Some of the things that immediately stood out to me were the toms. I often found myself having to go a little over the top with compression to get the attack I want regarding the original SD tom samples. But the toms that come with this download are amazing. There's no better way to put it. The kick and snare sounds were the two of the biggest things I really needed to catch my attention as you may know, these two particular drums drive the tempo and beat in a lot of genres. Again, mixed correctly you can achieve a number of great kick sounds and a snare that punches you right in the face every time!
Now, the reason this particular review is missing that last .5
Where is the kick out mic that's on the original SD samples? Sure, I'm content with just the kick in, because there's work-arounds such as layering & blending a fatter sounding sample and many other techniques, but having that option there is nice. But that's my only complaint! Other than that, the Superior Drummer Rock Warehouse kills it! I would highly recommend for ANY genre of rock.
A quick shoutout for my sales engineer, Jason Koons. He followed up with me a few days after downloading the product to see how I liked it so far. Can honestly say that Sweetwater has some of the best customer service around!
Solid SDX
Solid Sdx. The toms are definitely the strongest element of this SDX. But with some tweaking the Snare, Kick and cymbals are also very usable. The midi library also have some solid loops for building drum tracks.
