Just place the two SCX25-A microphones on the included mounting brackets, so they sit right on the piano's rail. There's no need to labor over placing the microphone perfectly - that brilliant sound is right there. With the SCX25-APS kit, you even get two premium 20' cables and a flight case to store everything, so you're ready to tour. In fact, top touring acts - including Diana Krall - rely on this very Audix SCX25-APS system.

Great Piano Mics!

By Gerard Manecke from San Diego, CA on December 5, 2023

The pair of Audix SCX25A-PS have a clear, flat frequency response, and very rapid transient response. They also have minimal proximity effect. I couldn't be happier with a set of microphones- they really bring out the color and character of my grand piano. As always, Sweetwater was great, and Anthony has been very helpful to me as I improve my piano recording. At this point I have the two Audix mics close micing the high and low of the piano, and an AKG C414 XLS as a room mic. They're all going through a Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre, and it sounds great!

Great Mics!!

These babies make our 9' Steinway model D sound even bigger than it is. Good gain before feedback, little EQ required. A well thought out package overall. I did need to modify the clips slightly, as they didn't hold the rails adequately inside the piano- until I added some self-adhesive foam (weather stripping) to the clips to give them more grip.

Underrated microphones

By Jim Alfredson from Michigan on March 27, 2021 Music Background: Musician and recording engineer

I picked up a pair of these to use on a fully restored 1915 Steinway A that a local studio just purchased. The piano sounds bigger than it is and I needed mics to capture it's beauty. Not only do the Audix do so with aplomb but I also used one on tenor saxophone and it was a revelation! Full, rich sound with a lovely 'woody' quality and no excessive honkiness or muddy low end. Brilliant! My go to tenor mic is the venerable U87 but I think the Audix SCX25a is my new favorite!

Amazing little mics!

Awesome mics that can stand up to the best! Even in a studio with $5,000+ options foot choose from, these still get used plenty.

Excellent piano system

By Joel Crawford from Cincinnati on February 4, 2019 Music Background: Professional classical/jazz recordist

I"ve been using SCX25As for about 2 years now. Excellent on so many applications, but really shines on piano and harp.
Had a tricky setup recording a bright piano in a live room with a jazz trio (bass and drums) this weekend. I tried a number of options to get both the right sound and enough isolation. The other mics tried were: Earthworks Piano Mic, Moded Cascade X-15L, and pair of KM184s.
The SCX25A won hands down. Full open sound, handled the bright piano, and able to achieve excellent isolation.
The earthworks was very tinny no matter where it was placed, the KM184s were fine but too bright on this piano, and the ribbon just wasn"t the right sound.
SCX25A punches way above its weight. Great pair of mics.
