ATC SCM25A Mk2 6.5-inch 3-way Powered Studio Monitor Reviews

235W Tri-amped Powered Studio Monitor with 6.5" Woofer, 3" Midrange, 1" Tweeter, Bass Boost, Input Trim, and Overload Protection (Pair)

Handcrafted in the UK, The ATC SCM25A Mk2 is a premium active studio monitor with lots to offer. This speaker boasts ATC's proprietary dual-suspension drivers, which include a 6.5-inch short-coil low-frequency driver, a 3-inch soft-dome midrange driver, and a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter. This studio monitor reproduces the 47Hz–22kHz frequency range with the utmost accuracy and clarity, and its tri-amped design, which features an integrated 235-watt Class AB amplifier, delivers an impressive 109dB SPL. The SCM25A Mk2 vaunts a cutting-edge ported enclosure for thunderous bass reproduction and a foam port bung to reduce low-frequency output in smaller listening spaces. You also get bass boost and trim controls, plus overload protection. Hear what you have been missing from your mixes with the ATC SCM25A Mk2.

The perfect monitor for my small room.

By Nick N. from Traverse City, MI
Music Background: engineer/mixer

I've used ATC's starting 10 years ago in various studios. My intro to the line was ATC SCM20's & 150's when I was an assistant. I really learned to know that sound. It wasn't always pretty, but they made you work hard. Got into passive monitors when I went independent and eventually came to the point where I wanted to push things harder and I wanted a rig that would tell me with confidence where the boundaries are. Felt like I had always been missing a couple crucial areas because my passives were letting me gloss over those details.

Anyway, a couple friends in town have 25's and 45's. They were gracious enough to let me spend some time listening & working on their speakers. The sound of the 25 is like an old friend to me. Revealing in a brutal way, yet really really musical. They don't force me in a direction, but they DO push me to make good decisions. And they make it obvious. That midrange dome reveals distortion & artifacts so well, it's wild.

They ARE very sensitive to placement. You need to take the time to work on that to get the most out of these monitors. In my opinion, they sound a lot better free standing than on a meter bridge or desk (like most monitors).

I'd be fine using them without a sub in my small room, but I'm still running (2) Rythmik F12G servo subs & DIRAC to get that last octave or two.

My clients have never been happier. I've never been happier. I'm getting little/no notes on first passes, mixes sound great in the car and I've got more time to hang out with my wife.

Thanks to Anthony Giraldi for hooking this up as always! You're my dude as long as I'm still buying gear.

Authentic across all frequencies!

By CJ L. from Loveland, OH
Music Background: Career Producer & Musician

I have been mixing on NS10MS for 25 years and know them like the back of my hand. Even with a sub, I feel like I have always had a little bit of 'guess work' in the low end. The ATC25s take all the guess work out of the mix. They expose everything! Which is just what we want.

It's funny to me when people say the ATCs sound amazing. I wouldn't say that... I would say they are truly authentic and expose your mix. There is nothing to hide behind in these monitors. They will force you to become better. I love them and so glad I made the choice to make these my #1 mixing monitors.

So far - very impressed with ATC quality

By Thomas M. from Franklinton, NC

I run a private in home studio. I used Mackie HR824s since they were first introduced along with the ubiquitous Yamaha NS10's for mixing. I recently went with the ATC SCM25A Mk2 to replace the Mackie's. First, I have to say that the Mackie's are really good for the price and they served me well through many mixing sessions. But the ATC 25's are so crisp and transparent that I can see making even better mixes happen with better translation. The midrange on ATC speakers really stands out as expected. The ported cabinet yields about the right low end for my taste (I do not use a subwoofer) and the highs, well they are there, nicely smooth and crisp, and that's more than I can say for the Mackie's. I always felt that the Mackie's high end was a bit attenuated due the design of the tweeter and the crossover frequency used.

MK IIs Excellent update!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional Audio Engineer

I know MKI users want to maintain the value of the monitor, I won't sell mine but when looking for another pair, we put the MK IIs in the same room. Side by side in real time, they are identical, invisible if it weren't for the touch more silk and clarity in the top end. The new tweeter is exceptional! Well done ATC.

Buy MK 1

By Patrick C.
Music Background: Producer/Mixer

Had a chance to listen to these in person next to first version. Don't get me wrong these are still great speakers, and some of the best. From what I heard next to the old ones a lot of what made the mid range Tweeter dynamic work has been lost in the new Mk II model. Take this review with a grain of salt. Haven't had a chance to mix on them yet, but that is what my ears initially told me.
