Solid woods, amazing tone, super comfortable, most innovative acoustic/electric today!
I bought an SC-13E back in 2021, and absolutely loved it. I've been waiting patiently for a Standard series version, and now I own the SC-28E. The solid Indian rosewood back and sides make for a more full-bodied range of tones, and the build quality is remarkable (as would befit a made-in-Nazareth Martin guitar). The ebony fretboard is flawless, and the action is nice and low from the factory. You can now buy the full Martin adjustment kit for SC series guitars, so adjusting the neck shim (neck angle), intonation, and truss rod is a breeze.
It's hard to express just how playable this instrument is. The innovative asymmetrical spiral shaped "velocity" neck makes for effortless hand positioning when reaching for upper register access to the higher frets, as well as comfort for your cowboy chord positions. And that patented Sure Align neck joint is like nothing else from any acoustic manufacturer on the market. If you're looking for the most innovative, playable Martin acoustic/electric, this is the dream. Sure, if you've got eight grand to drop on the Custom Shop SC 2022 version, that one came with the VTS top and tons of inlay work, but this Standard Series SC-28E is amazing. I got mine with the LR Baggs Anthem system pickups, and it sounds wonderful both amplified and acoustically.
The finish is flawless, the spruce top resonates beatifully. I'm not too big a fan of the Luxe Kovar strings it shipped with, as they seem to enhance bass and midrange, but using the Martin 80/20 Phosphor bronze or Elixir strings makes brightens it right back up. But, use what you like.
