Good tone..however....
On a whim, I purchased these to see how they sounded on my D 28. I've tried a few "boutique" strings, but only found them "ok." With these strings, I immediately liked their tone. Low end more pronounced and all around better balance. However, I have found them a bit more prone to going out of tune. This is bit of a premature review, as I've not had them long enough to determine their "lifespan." $ for a set of strings, I'm hoping for some longevity. We shall see.
Only Buy These If You Want The Best
Wow ... put these strings on my Martin HD-28 and it took a great sounding guitar and made it even better! These strings added "presence" for lack of a better term. It would be hard to go back to my previous strings now that I have heard what these "Spectrum Bronze" strings sound like. Two thumbs up!
Strings fail before final tuning
I previously bought a set of these strings in a smaller gauge for a parlor guitar and had 3 strings unwind and fail before even tuning to pitch. I assumed the shorter scale length not allowing the strings end wrap to reach the tuning pegs played a factor. Purchased another set to try on my dreadnought, and this time had a luthier re-string and set it up only to get the call that the d and g had unwound and failed before tuning to pitch as well.
This has been a very expensive waste for two sets of strings. Not sure what happened to Thomastiks' quality control but I'm honestly heartbroken, I was very much looking forward to these much lauded strings
Why didn't I know about these
Just ordered these because I received a gift card for Christmas and I really didn't need anything else in that price range...
I play everyday and recently have been doing some studio work. My guitar is a custom guitar and it is really a beast....
My go to strings are. Santa Cruz and Straight up strings, if I am playing gigs outside I use Elixir....
I have tried almost everything made i think..lol..
Well besides these. Until now that is. I don't know how long they will last and really don't care..I change about every 2 weeks anyways to keep the recording quality i desire...but man..these have power. Tone and clarity.
I might have my new favorites...
Nothing Compares to Thomastik
After I tried my first set of Thomastik-Infeld strings, I immediately replaced the strings on all of my guitars with their products. I noticed there aren't many reviews for their strings, so I figured I'd toss my opinion out there for those who may be on the fence.
These behemoths are my go to strings for open tunings. I'm currently using this set on my Guild M-120 — Tuned CGCFCE (low to high), and I can't recommend them enough. These ARE the best bronze strings on the market. Remarkable projection, clarity, rich harmonics, and a crisp piano-like sustain. Bring your acoustic to life and bless it with some Thomastiks.
