Seagull original 6

By Alan from Parker Co on January 10, 2024 Music Background: 10 years playing guitar at home (Very old man )

I bought a 1 year old Seagull 6 8 years a go. It was like new had not hardley been played, I have played most ever day since then. Just change strings about ever three months, no problem. other then a few dings In that same perod of time I have bought and sold several guitars of all brand s including three Martins, Hd 28 .& D35 and one cheaper martin.I bought the Martins thinking i would play them rather then the seagull WRONG! the seagull just sounds better( Istill have the d35 } nice guitar but i play the seagull more, I keep thinking the Martins should really have something going for them with price they are?? Maybe its the name although they seem very well built. conclusion its hard to be the quality the sound and the price of a Seagull

Great

By Kenny Stainton from Houston/Galveston on October 17, 2023 Music Background: Active gigging musician.

Bought mine in '02. Plays great.
I use it mostly for fun beach or campfire stuff since no electronics. It plays great, is loud, great neck feels like my Taylors. I have 3 seagulls. S6, S12 and Entourage parlor size which always I travel with on vacation.
I love seagulls. You will not be disappointed.

Great Guitar!

By Marijane Brink from Maine on October 12, 2022 Music Background: Musical hack and gigslut

I love this guitar! Easy to play, and when you plug it in, beautiful! It's so crisp and clean sounding!
I traded a 12 string Taylor for my sg6 qit with absolutely no regrets!
I've been playing Seagull guitars for over 30 yrs, and they have come a long way. In fact, I installed a fishman pick up in my old SG 12 string
because I love it so much and was tired of a sound hole pick up.
I used to call seagulls the poor man's martin... nowadays I read they are compared to Taylor's.
The new sg originals are a great buy!

The best ever.

The customer service is the best I have ever experienced from an online order. They are caring and truly care that everything is correct!!

25 years and still great!

By Bill from CO on March 21, 2022 Music Background: Guitar playing music lover!

I got this thing 25 years ago... After going into the acoustic room at a guitar shop and playing pretty much every acoustic they had, a couple of Martin's were close but I kept coming back to this one... It really is one of the warmest, deepest sounding acoustic guitars I have ever played and its still great after 25!

An old friend

By Dean Craft from FL on August 12, 2021 Music Background: 50 yrs guitar off and on

Just pulled my 30 yr old Seagull S6 out of its case for the first time in couple of years. It's not too pretty--the area around the soundhole is shredded from years of hard strumming, and the top is cracked in a couple spots from not being properly humidified and sitting in hot cars. Plenty of other acne from carelessness. So now for the good part. This guitar plays and sounds like a dream. I could hardly believe my ears!! For an inexpensive guitar this is an absolute jewel and I'm glad we are reunited. It's going to spend far less time in the case from now on.

Understated perfection

By James Fetten from New York, NY on June 25, 2021

This guitar is the essence of simplicity. Solid, nothing fancy, no frills, but great playability and projects like a cannon. I thought it would be a practice instrument, but now my favorite. Everything a good, reliable acoustic guitar needs, and nothing it doesn't. You can't go wrong with this one. Bravo Seagull. Thanks, Sweetwater!

‘Lucky Find’

By Dave from N.H. U.S.A. on May 9, 2021 Music Background: Casual player/Singer /Home Recording

In the store strumming an acoustic with price tag bout $1200.00 and saw a guitar hanging that I had not seen before. Asked about it, they said it just arrived. What caught my eye was the cool headstock. Took it down and played a series of my favorite chords and went home with it! Yes, that quickly!..Looks great, feels great, and sounds great!

Quality.

By Demian Koller from Washington on September 30, 2020 Music Background: Amateur guitar enthusiast for 20 years

There's something about this guitar. When I handle it, I feel the attention to detail, the personal touches. I actually sat and read the included assembly sign-off tag from Seagull, with people's real signatures on it. You can feel the indent from the pen on the card. It's that kind of a guitar.

Appearance-wise, it's really beautiful without being overly flashy. Elegant. I won't really try to describe it here, but again there's an attention to detail that definitely shows.

I only play fingerstyle guitar on it at the moment. I have heard these guitars can be a little muddy for flatpicking. Also, the wider spacing between the strings delivers the promise of easier fingerpicking, but I could see how it might slow a flatpicker down a little. The sound keeps surprising me. I feel like this guitar could either really roar or purr in the right hands.

Very much worth the price!

Oh, the service from Sweetwater has been impeccable. The shipping was easily the best I've ever seen for a guitar, and I've bought many guitars through the mail from many different companies. It's been a really pleasant experience in every way!

The wait was worth it.

By Keith Woznek from Clinton, Tennessee on September 21, 2020

I researched guitars for a long time trying to decide what guitar would be best and unique. I decided on the Seagull S6 for many reasons confirmed by my Sweetwater representative. I had to wait over 6 months for the S6 to be back in stock due to Covid. The wait was worth it! The S6 is a great sounding guitar due to the cedar top and wild cherry sides and bottom. The guitar has an understated look which I wanted but is still nice looking. The S6 stays in tune due to the headstock design. Perfect guitar for me and it is built to play and last. Incredible value and super service by Sweetwater.

Amazing Guitar and Amazing Customer Service

By Jesse from CA on July 31, 2020 Music Background: novice enthusiast

I had attempted to buy this guitar at a major retailer, but after being kept in the dark about shipping time estimates (the guitar had been backordered for like two months) I canceled my order. I was given a vague window of 3-4 months before my order would finally ship out after the initial 2 months, but there was little clarification or communication during the whole process. I didn't mind waiting at all; I know we're in the middle of a pandemic so it's no big deal. It was more or less the uncertainty on whether or not I'd ever get my order, and the lack of communication that mattered to me. Anyway, despite having not heard of Sweetwater before, I decided to give them a try and bought the same guitar. It turns out, it was also back ordered, BUT they were VERY vocal about it with constant updates, pictures of the guitar, emails detailing my order, and even voicemails (kinda caught me off guard lol). It was all very much appreciated. After ordering, my stuff still came in super quickly! Within two weeks I finally had my Seagull S6! Now I'm finally enjoying this high quality guitar. It is tons of fun to play with. The look, feel, and sound of it emulate a guitar of a higher price range. Seriously this guitar is impressive and definitely worth the buy!

My S6

Great First Guitar

By David from Oregon on May 28, 2020 Music Background: clarinet in high school fifty plus years ago

I am a new guitarist but I love this quality guitar. It sounds great when I occasionally get my fingers on the correct strings and frets. I am glad I chose my Seagull S6 Original for my first guitar.

Love my S6

By Sweetwater Customer on May 25, 2020

I have been playing a guitar with a 1.68 nut width and was always struggling with playing certain chords. I couldn't help muting strings that were adjacent to the ones I was playing. I'm a pretty big guy with larger than average fingers. My new Seagull S6 with its 1.8" nut gives me ample room to accurately and quickly change and play chords that I struggled with before. You might think that 0.13" wouldn't make a difference but at least for me, it has made a huge difference. Love this guitar!

Exactly what I was looking for

By Ken Hinzman from MI on April 25, 2020 Music Background: Bedroom wanking for over 25 years (as of 2020.)

I wanted a quality acoustic guitar with no frills. I'll likely never take it to a studio or play for an audience, so electronics seem like a waste to me. So, I found the S6 with no electronics sitting in a guitar store. Initially, I was turned off by the head stock, until I looked at how the strings pull through the nut. They pull straight through (just like a PRS or Fender.) I picked it up and pretty much knew I was taking it home after strumming my first Open G Maj chord. I've had it for nearly a year now. The tuning stability is superb and the tone is outstanding. More impressively, the action and intonation right off the shelf were pretty close to spot-on, too. An entirely solid-wood instrument is out of my budget (and above my skill level.) Having a solid top and the fairly unique wood selections that are on the S6 seemed to be quite a nice bonus to me.

I did purchase set of ebony bridge pins for the next time I change the strings. Aside from that, I see it as a life-long guitar and needing no other modifications.

Thank you Sweetwater

By Kevin Lowe from Fort Wayne on September 2, 2019

I was lucky enough to win this guitar at this year's GearFest. I can remember walking out to the parking lot with it in hand after winning it in shock that I actually won something. I then remember thinking of all the things I could have won, I won an instrument that I actually play. OK, enough about that. What blew me away was the sound of this guitar and the clarity of the notes. This guitar sounds amazing for this price point. I play it often and the tones are beautiful. I highly recommend this guitar if you are a beginner or even someone who has been playing guitar for a long time.

Acoustic with a Soul

By Alejandro from Nashville West on July 13, 2019

I"ve played one Seagull S6 in my local shop, and was blown away by not only the sound and build quality, but by its price. I"ve played guitar for over 10 years, and can honestly say that this is the only instrument that has a soul. It"s sound is crisp and bright, and the presents of the sound is truly unmatched by any thing I"ve played. The wood on the neck is almost like a velvet, it has some grain, but is slick. This is my most cherished guitar.

Can beat the quality for the price

By Brendan on July 7, 2019

This was my first guitar and while I have "graduated" to more expensive guitars this by far the best value for price of any I"ve owned. I still play this guitar regularly and it never lets me down. This might be priced for a first guitar but it is good enough to be your forever guitar.

Very impressed

By Scott on October 30, 2018

I am extremely happy with the Seagull S6. I"ve been teaching myself how to play for nearly three years and although I"m happy with my FG700S I really wish I had stared with the S6. I find the S6 a little easier to play and love the sound. And secondly, my interactions with Sweetwater have been nothing short of fantastic. Keep up the great work!

Blessing

Cant beat quality an sound for the price wonderful instrument.

Perfect mid-priced guitar

By Bruce Allen from Delaware on June 1, 2018 Music Background: Professional Worship Musician

I bought the S6 for my daughter (I already have a higher end Taylor) and I have been very impressed so far. For the money, I think you would have trouble finding a better value for a quality acoustic guitar. Seagull guitars are made in Canada and are part of the Godin musical group which is known for their innovative products. The cherry back matched with the cedar top make for a lively and warm tone which is great for both fingerpicking and strumming. Michael Wuchter from Sweetwater was a great help in providing advice and assisting me with this purchase. Unlike some other larger retailers, I could tell that Sweetwater put a lot of care into the evaluation and packaging of the instrument before it was shipped out. Seagull and Sweetwater are a winning combination!

First Impression

By Steve from Central Texas on April 28, 2018 Music Background: Musician, mixer, recording

Beautiful woods. The width of the neck is exactly what I needed and expected. Tone is beautiful, it was hard to put back in the case. Intonation is perfect.

AWESOMENESS

By Clayton Peterson from Phoenix, AZ on March 14, 2018 Music Background: Semi pro

Just received my new Original S 6 and I am stunned at the quality of this guitar. It has an amazing sound for an inexpensive guitar and is extremely comfortable to play. Some players would consider the action a little high, it is 2.5 mm on the base and 2.0 mm on the treble, but this is actually perfect. I especially like the neck width. The 1.8 inch nut width is very nice for someone like me who mainly plays classical guitar. I also purchased a gator gig bag which was a big mistake. These are pretty much useless. I went out and purchased a nice hard case and the guitar is now very happy in its new home. Thanks to Derek at Sweetwater for once again providing excellent customer service.

Amazing Guitar!

By Oliver on February 28, 2018

The build quality on this guitar is phenomenal...I believe it is "semi-gloss" which feels just all matte to me. I prefer matte because it makes it easier to slide up and down the neck when playing. The strings it came with are really great. Intonation seems great based off of Sweetwater's checkup. Action seems good. Overall an amazing guitar.

Great Acoustic

By Tim from Tennessee on February 18, 2018 Music Background: Amatuer

It has been 35 years since I have owned an acoustic guitar. I have only owned solid body electrics during that time. So I started researching acoustics and I liked what I heard about Seagull Guitars by Godin. I watched the reviews and purchased one at Sweetwater. The guitar arrived in two days. Unfortunately there was a small crack on the top during shipping. I contacted Sweetwater and sent pictures of the damage. They immediately sent a replacement. It was the easiest return I have ever made. Very pleased, I have been playing my new acoustic and loving it. It did take a little getting used to as the neck is slightly wider than what I have been used to, but the action is excellent. I had expected the action to be higher, Another thing is the strap pins on the guitar are Schaller or Schaller compatible locking strap locks. I use them on all my guitars anyway so it was a pleasant surprise to find them on the S6. The guitar sound great no real issues, It arrived in tune which really surprised me. I had expected that after be hauled across country it would have needed a little tuning but it did'nt. Overall the Seagull S6 is an excellent basic acoustic guitar for an amateur like me. Sweetwater made what could have been bad experience a pleasant one. I will certainly buy from them again.

As good as a Gibson?? MAYBE,

By Joe from Louisiana on May 9, 2021 Music Background: 64 yrs old, played as a teen.. Now trying to make a come back lol

At the beginning of the pandemic, I ordered a Gibson. Love all American made and of course who doesnt want a Gibson.. They back ordered it and seemed like it would be forever. I bought a cheap Yamaha and it was okay, but, it is what it is.. SO after talking with my son, who is a great musician and has played them all.. HE told me, Dad, look at the SeaGull. It even has the wider neck for your meat hook hands.. SO I cancelled my Gibson order and got the SeaGull.. saved half the money too. WELL I have had it for a year, and it has sure been a great guitar.. Easy to play with my big, sausage like fingers and sounds wonderful. NOT flashy looking, but, looks nice.. I recently bought a Takamne 12 string.. The Seagull is still my fav. SO buy one, play one and save yourself some money..

S6 natural acoustic seagull guitar

Nice Guitar but read description Carefully

By RDixon from Bradford NY on September 24, 2020 Music Background: Self taught enthusiast

Ok, before I get into the guitar, just let me thank Sweetwater on their speed with shipping. I ordered it on a Friday afternoon and it was in my hands Sunday afternoon not even 48 hours, just amazing. I actually ordered two Seagull S6 guitars one for me and one as a gift for a friend. My Sweetwater sales associate did a great job handling the order with the different addresses and shipping. As stated my Seagull S6 arrived right away. The guitar arrived in beautiful shape and in tune. As advertised it had a solid cedar top, rosewood fingerboard, solid tuners and really nice fret work as you would expect and it played really well. Here is where it gets interesting, the body is laminated cherry wood, on the inside with all the bracing , which is very blonde, almost like pine. I could not get over the dark mahogany like color of the very pretty exterior back and sides, deeply stained, or so I thought. Then I noticed the black binding around the guitar was not binding at all. It was printed on. Upon closer inspection, I discovered the entire exterior side and back wood of the guitar was also a wood print, on vinyl. Much like snap n click flooring or Walmart furniture. This classifies as a vinyl laminate, so when the say laminated wild cherry it is technically correct, they just left out the word imitation. However. I was under the impression based on Seagull's advertising , that it was an all wood laminate, so you see the fine line here. It is very well done and without a magnifying glass you cannot tell. It is also waterproof which can be an advantage in outdoor or humid situations. Needless to say a bit of a disappointment after all their hype about the woods they use. So if you are looking for a handsome utility guitar that is well built with a solid wood top and an imitation body wood finish and sounds as it should, this will work nicely. If you are looking or an all wood heirloom look somewhere else.
