Very impressed!

By Sweetwater Customer from Iowa on January 5, 2024

I've played several different Ibanez guitars over the years and this didn't disappoint. I love the feel of the wizard neck. The slim body is very comfortable to play.

What I've been needing.

By Robert Pearson from Kosciusko, MS on August 18, 2023 Music Background: Playing guitar or 'at' guitar, depending on your perspective, for 30 years. I generally play mainstream 70's, 80's and 90's Rock and Blues.

I've been looking for a 'Fat Strat,' but so far, nothing I'd gotten my hands on worked. So I thought, 'What about a Super Strat?'

And I don't know about you, but when I think 'Super Strat,' I tend to think 'Ibanez.'

The S-series 670 has not disappointed. It's got a 'racehorse' build, everything you need to get to the finish first and nothing you don't. Simple controls, no splitting either bucker save to create tones with the middle, smooth double-locker trem system, and a nice, thin, steady neck. I happen to prefer thin necks, partially because of my hand-size, and while The Wizard III neck the 670 sports is not 'wafer' thin as you might think, but it's still small and flat enough to let your fingers easily take total control. It works for you, not against you the way some necks, do for me.

The stock pickups are nicely high octane. I might at some point replace them, but they're good enough that I think I need to give it at least a year before I try that, and maybe not then. They sound good at low volumes and give me all the roar I care for when I let them hit some drive. I haven't had a chance to use them with some fuzz, but I expect great things. They do work well with flangers and phasers, making either effect much more articulate than on other guitars I have.

I've been ill and so haven't and won't have a chance to break this guitar down and do my own set-up, but I'm not minding these 10's at all on it. I might even stick to them instead of going down to 9s.

I will confess I don't play much 'modern' Metal, but if by Metal you mean Van Halen, 80's Glam, and so on, this guitar will get you there with no sweat. It does just as well or better for hard rock. If you want a 'jack of all trades' rockin' electric solid body that can get pretty seriously aggressive while stock, I'd seriously suggest checking the S670QM out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Beautiful Guitar

By Ray from NH on January 4, 2023

Beautiful guitar and it plays wonderfully. I have had a S540 from 30 years ago and has always been my favorite. The S670qm is a great addition to my collection and it feels and plays even better than my 540. Setup was good with only issue being the rosewood was a little tired/thirsty looking. A little F1 oil and it is now perfect.

Absolutely Fantastic Midrange Guitar!!

By James Thomas on July 7, 2022 Music Background: Fusion, funk, southern rock, metal, etc.

My S670QM came in a few days ago and I cannot stop playing (or looking at) it! What a beauty! I was a little skeptical of the new finish, it used to be a darker, more deep-sea blue. But when it came in my expectations were completely surpassed. The neck and frets feel great, the tremolo feels smooth and returns to perfect pitch, and the pickups sound really good and versatile as well. If you are looking for a quality performance guitar for less than $1000, look no further.

Amazing guitar for the money

By Rob C from Oklahoma, USA on May 20, 2021 Music Background: Amateur Musician

The value of these guitars is fantastic. Everything my 1990s Fujigen guitars are at half the price in comparative money. I'm so happy they were able to switch back to rosewood fretboards after the CITES fiasco of banning it temporarily. I have a bunch of Ibanez guitars, these less expensive ones don't take a back seat to my Premium or Prestige models at all, worth every penny.

I waited 3 years to buy this because of the fretboard (have the Dragon Burst one with Jabota, which it doesn't look bad because the fretboard color goes well with the orange). I'm so happy I did.

Excellent Guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on May 13, 2021 Music Background: Amateur Hobbyist

This is a very good guitar at this price point and I am happy with this purchase. The looks are sharp, it is well made, and sounds good when paired with a decent amp. A few notes on this guitar for would-be buyers.

1) I wish it had a locking trem, the guitar is harder to keep in tune than I expected.
2) I like the neck that is thin, it is easier to reach around the neck with small hands and the thin neck extends the reach of the notes. However, some cords become harder to play as it does not fill out your hand like it would on other guitars.
3) I like that the guitar body is very thin and the total weight is lighter than some but it does not feel like a toy.

Overall, the guitar is very good for the price. I am sure more money equals more better and compared to a 1k + guitar there are some attributes that are left out (better fretwork, better components, etc). Bottom line, If you are looking at a mid-range price point this should be a serious contender.

Wonderfully looking and sounding

By Nikos K. on April 3, 2018 Music Background: Four years of hard rock

I must admit that I had my draw backs for a non USA made guitar, but this has blown me away. Well priced and of excellent quality in a magnificently shaped lightweight body. I love it

Good Value - Needed a Couple of Mods

By Jim from Virginia on August 31, 2023 Music Background: Semi pro player and hobbyist since 1975

I purchased this guitar new during a holiday sale and saved a few bucks. Here's what I found with the guitar that I purchased.

Fit and finish are excellent. It is a beautiful instrument. Setup was perfect. Intonation was spot on. Frets were properly finished and it played like butter right out of the box.

I fiddled around with the pickup heights to dial the tone in that I liked. The pickups are fine, you just need to take the time to fine tune them. I started with the string height at 3/32nds for both e strings and tweaked the pickup heights from there. DCR output on the pickups measured out as Bridge 8.3k, Middle 5.1k and Neck 7.4k for anyone that is interested.

Electronics are budget, but work fine. Both pots have good taper and the 5 way works as it should. It would be easy to upgrade the pots and 5 way switch. Plenty of room in the control cavity to do that. For now I'm leaving them alone.

My guitar had tuning stability issues when using the trem. As long as I didn't touch the trem it was fine. This was caused by weak trem springs and the lack of a string tree above the locking nut. It would stay in tune until you touched the trem arm. Any guitar that has a Floyd Rose type locking nut should come with the Floyd Rose string tree already installed. These are only a few bucks and keep the strings laying flat across the nut so that they don't go sharp when you lock them down. For the trem springs, I went with a heavier set of Floyd Rose springs. Unfortunately, I don't remember which set I purchased. Once both of those items were installed, I set up the trem and adjusted the claw properly and tuning has drastically improved. It will still go out of tune on a rare occassion if I get crazy (and this guitar encourages you to get crazy), but nothing like before. The trem arm also comes loose frequently. I find that I'm having to tighten up the nut every few songs. I think some plumbers tape on the threads would likely fix that. If you can do those things yourself then it's a good value. If you have to pay someone to do it for you then you can add +/- $130 and up, plus parts, to the purchase price. Just something to consider.

Sweetwater. What can I say about those fine folks? Love 'em. keep on rockin it!!!

A nice guitar

By Leonardo Oliveira from Manaus, AM BRA on December 2, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician, Guitar Player

It's a good guitar. Of course it can't compare with other top models tops Ibanez Guitars, but I liked the thin body, color and infinity pickups have a good sound. A long time I've been playing with a strato and wanted to give a different sound in my sometimes. I believe that currently Ibanez S670qm will meet my need in this time. I also thanks to Sweetwater team. They are great.

Ibanez S60qm

By Sweetwater Customer on January 6, 2021

Not a bad ax for the money. It came out of the box with a horrible set up and was a little grumpy getting a nice set up. After tuning to pitch 100 times will small tweaks in between it came around slowly. Hard hitting sound and comfortable to play. I suggest new personnel in quality control. Should never have been shipped with the strings over 1/4" from the fretboard at the base of the neck and pour finish in parts of the guitar visible.

Disappointed

By Sweetwater Customer on December 13, 2023 Music Background: 40 years

Expected better with a 55 point inspection. Frets were rough, not finished. The locking nut was way too high causing tuning and playability issues. Intonation was not properly set. Had to take the nut off and sand off overspray and a little wood to get the proper height and polish frets. Should not have to do this at this price point. Ibanez should put Infinity pickups in this, if they are going to use proprietory pickups, much better. After doing what should have already been done and replacing the pickups it's a great guitar.
