A Smashing '90s-flavored Op-amp Fuzz
The Keeley Rotten Apple tips its hat to the creamy fuzz tones, perfectly sculpted midrange, and violin-like sustain immortalized in the early records of a certain Chicago rock quartet of the early '90s. Sweetwater is sure that rock romantics of all stripes — alt-rockers, stoner rockers, and shoegazers — will buzz about its potential. The Rotten Apple is quieter and gnarlier than most off-the-shelf vintage fuzzes; it's dynamically sensitive dialed back yet authentically aggressive opened up. So whether you're holding chords or octuple-tracking solos, this pedal is primed to please with '90s aggressioneering. A 3-way Tone toggle provides flexible midrange shaping.
A smoother, more saturated op-amp fuzz
Through exhaustive testing and research, Robert Keeley determined that alt-rock's most iconic fuzz pedal must have been a silver-boxed V4 — the op-amp version — and so modeled the tones in his Rotten Apple after that vintage. Keeley modernized the circuit for quieter operation, gnarlier distortion, and a smoother op-amp response. This pedal's filtering provides the thick, dreamy tones that rockers have been seeking for decades. It has been tuned to perfection using a 3-single-coil guitar, modded to the band's specs of the time, to guarantee that any card-carrying '90s fanatic will be pleased with what it's packing.
