Ampeg Rocket Bass RB-110 1x10" 50-watt Bass Combo Amp Reviews

50W 1 x 10" Bass Combo Amplifier with 3-band EQ, 1/8" Aux Input, 1/8" Headphone Output, 0dB and -15dB 1/4" Inputs, and XLR Balanced Output

The 50-watt Rocket Bass RB-110 bass combo delivers classic good looks and timeless Ampeg tones to players on the move. Fans of the 1960s Rocket series of Ampeg amplifiers will especially groove on the RB-110's black diamond wrap and signature sparkle grille cloth. Of course, bassists of all stripes will enjoy taking the renowned Ampeg punch and growl to go with this easy-traveling solution. The Rocket Bass's Legacy preamp, 3-band EQ, and specially voiced ported speaker make it ridiculously easy to achieve monumental bass tones with any instrument in your arsenal. And thanks to a pair of 0dB and -15dB instrument inputs right on the front panel, the RB-110 has no trouble adjusting to hot-wound active humbuckers or passive vintage single-coils. When you're ready to add some grit to rhythms and sustain to leads, the Rocket Bass's SGT (Super Grit Technology) controls dial in a smooth-to-gnarled overdrive that manages to keep fundamentals full while packing on the heat. You'll even find an 1/8-inch aux input and an 1/8-inch headphone output to facilitate silent practice, whether you're jamming along to tracks at home or warming up in the green room pre-show.

Nice Practice Amp

By John from Largo, FL on September 20, 2023

I use this in my bedroom for practicing. It sounds great and it doesn't disturb the baby when he's sleeping. I haven't turned it up loud yet, so I can't comment on that, but for a quiet bedroom amp with good sound, this is an excellent choice.

Nice little Amp

By John A from Maryland on January 19, 2023 Music Background: Bassist- Electric and Contra Bass with some guitar, keys, drums.

I've been playing Bass for a while and hauling gear is getting much less enjoyable. I wanted something small and LIGHT that sounds good. This RB-110 fits those requirements. It is great for practices and small combo gigs. I can carry my P-Bass in a gig bag, the amp, accessories and a mic stand all in one trip. For larger venues with sound support and for recording it's got the DI. I've had it for 6 months or so and still diggin it. I used the SGT when I feel dirty.
This is a well designed very usable amp that looks classy.
With one 10" it doesn't have a huge low end but is surprisingly present and for clear articulation, harmonics and guitar it shimmers!
I really liked the idea of the RB-210 but can't justify the additional cost versus need because I've got a B2R and an ancient V-4 for mid-level gigs. The SVT and 810 stays at home except for big shows or shaking the room at home.
Nice amp, very cost effective and Sweetwater is always a great dealer of all things musical.

Great Little Amp

By Sweetwater Customer from MA on July 18, 2022

Use it in basement for practice. Keeps up with the drummer and guitar easily.

Great Practice / Small gig amp

By James Christensen from San Antonio, TX on June 11, 2022

This is a great practice / small gig amp that is way lighter then it looks. The aux-in's volume is 100% controlled at its source. I have had some amp where it wasn't..along with that you can also connect your head phone turn the volume up a little without waking others up....You could practice with other musician so long as your drummer isn't beating his kit blunt force trama

Ampeg Rocket

Practice Plus !!

By AC from Willow Park TX on May 9, 2022 Music Background: Jam Bander

Bought this amp for my wife along with a Fender Player Mustang PJ.A match made in heaven. Wanted something different than a Rumble. Went with 50 watts to augment it's usage from a home practice amp to a small stage and it delivers. Lightweight and great looking .Sounds good and the three band EQ has good response.Superb value especially with special financing available. Able to add to a Bass purchase for just a few bucks more per month which these days is something to consider.

Great sounding little amp

By Jason on March 11, 2022 Music Background: Mostly metal/death metal & hard rock bands

I've always been a hartke guy. I still love my hartke but was looking to down size (like most people in the reviews I read on this amp). The only thing I've ever played through that I liked as much was an ampeg svt with an 8x10 cab, this has that "ampeg sound" in a small, light, affordable package. One of the things that sold me on the rb110 is the direct out, it's the smallest amp I saw to have that, it's small enough I can play in my apartment without the cops being called, loud enough to turn up to the drums for practice/small gigs, & you can plug in direct to the PA for bigger gigs

Great combo amp

By Dean Grant from WA on December 10, 2021 Music Background: Hobby Bassist

I've been using this amp to practice on for the past 6 months, and it's just fantastic. I have a Rumble 100 for small gigs, and while it is louder, the Rocket 110 has better clarity and tones, especially in the upper end. Will probably get a Rocket 112 someday. Thumbs up for this one.

Shout out to Kyle Austin. You just can't beat Sweetwater service, and Kyle is the best.

Ideal practice amp.

By Darcy James Andres from IA on November 17, 2021 Music Background: Purely for the love of music.

Really like the Ampeg's response. Solid sound...high end or low. The price was very good. Hope to match it up with an Ampeg cabinet.

Amazing!

By EMW from Oregon on October 1, 2021

Sounds far better than other brands (ahem) around the same price. This thing is magical. No salt and pepper required. Will be buying two of them.

Thanks Sweetwater!

Fantastic tone in a lightweight package

By Isaac James from OR on June 24, 2021

The amplifier sounds fantastic, both the clean channel and SGT have great tone. I was impressed at how light the whole cabinet is, and at how loud it can get. I suspect it will hold its own in a jam session, or even at a small gig. The SGT circuit on this can be adjusted to very low, which gives a little warmth and fuzz, or it can be cranked up to full, or dialed in somewhere in the middle.

Aux input and headphone jack are nice features to have, however be aware that the aux input volume is not controlled at all by the master volume, so check the volume on whatever device you connect. It will be pretty loud if you turn it up full.

Solid deal for the price

By aristotle maule from NJ on April 16, 2021 Music Background: Life long musician and music lover

I knew I was taking a bit of a gamble since this is such a new product, but it was right in my budget so I went for it.

This is a capable little amp, looks pretty good in person too. The tone with eq set to noon is spot on and gets better with tweaks. I gave it a run through with all my toys, and it definitely does the job of a portable/bedroom amp well.

The SGT distortion circuit is very clean, I get virtually no hum/buzz/static with it cranked to 11 at respectable volumes. It sounds pretty decent and you can really fuzz your tone out. If you play any stoner/doom genre you'll love it. But you can dial it back just to add a little bit of sparkle.

I run my darkglass b7k ultra through this amp, which to no surprise sounds a fair margin better(expected for a pedal nearly twice the price of this amp) but the sgt will be nice for situations when I don't have the pedal available.

All in all, if you a beginner or just looking for a small portable practice amp, look no further, this is it chief.

Very capable amp with killer sound!

By Alex from Colorado on April 9, 2021 Music Background: Hobby bassist

This small amp will fool you when you first see it, it's light and doesn't look like much more than a bedroom size practice amp. This quickly changes when you plug it in and hit the SGT...this thing provides enough gritty tone to shake the whole house, and reminds me of a vintage amp stack with the SGT off...great warm tone that really captures the essence of what ampeg meant/means. Quality build quality that is authentically pleasing.

The Perfect amp for the home player

By Paul from Westchester, NY on April 7, 2022 Music Background: Singer-Songwriter, home hobbyist and home studio recording

If you are looking for a simple, straightforward, good sounding amp for home use, you have found it. It is light, portable, surprisingly loud for the size and has excellent tones. The SGT (overdrive) circuit is remarkably good sounding too. The one feature not found in the 50 watt size, but is found on larger sizes is the ultra-low and ultra-hi classic Ampeg toggles. I don't miss them as the EQ section is very powerful. You may want the larger sizes if you are doing even small gigs or practices.

Solid practice amp

By SG from Tulsa, OK on August 16, 2023

Small footprint, big sound! Does alot with a little, plenty of features, and as per several other reviewers, it actually sounds pretty good as a jazz guitar amp. Really an unbeatable package at this price.

Sweet little amp!

By Alan Broom from Georgia on June 21, 2022 Music Background: 42 years bass/guitar

Great tone and easy to use dial in your sound. Super light, but has enough punch to stand out! Worth the $$! Great for practice and/or small venues.

Decent amp

By J Harris from Texas on April 11, 2023

I picked this up to use as a practice amp. If you plan to use the D.I. output on the back please beware that it a lot of white noise(airy hiss) on the audio signal even without the bass guitar plugged into the amp.
