Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII - 100-watt 2-channel Tube Head Reviews

100W Tube Guitar Amplifier Head with 2 Channels, Reverb, Effects Loop, and Power Attenuation - Orange

In the early 2000s a new era of high-gain Orange Amplification tone was ushered in with the Rockerverb series of electric guitar amplifiers. The all-tube Rockerverb 100 MKIII is the culmination of over a decade of fine-tuned adjustments to that game-changing amplifier. The MKIII offers a newly voiced clean channel for a more versatile chimey tone and a dirty channel that will take you anywhere from classic British crunch to the very heaviest in modern metal. Add in power-scaling and footswitchable attenuation and there's nowhere the Rockerverb 100 MKIII can't take you.

Great AMP

By Kohl Kelly on March 8, 2024

Great AMP Orange killed it with this one. However, it doesn't come with a footswitch which is quite annoying.

Perfection with attitude

By Scott Wawrzyniak from Oakville Ct on February 15, 2023 Music Background: College jazz musician, after college cover band musician, original band Crossing Rubicon 09’-2020, currently in Tax Collectors & Harlots

I had been in a band where I was the lead singer, I do not play guitar except in the privacy of my own home. I haven't had a real amp in a long time, but I always wanted an Orange (I previously had a 5150). I really wanted the OR100, but it was discontinued. A few years of searching I tried an OR15, and fell instantly in love with the sound, which I believe became my sound. Eventually in my band of 10 years broke up a victim of Covid, after a couple years I had the courage to get back out there and start playing music again, but I wanted to play guitar and still sing of course. I started a new project last summer, and my or 15 really did well on till my other guitar player turned up and I maxed my volume out. I finally had to jump in and get a Rockerverb. First of all I have to give a serious shout out to Colton Smiricky (One of the best sales people I have ever dealt with). The OR sounds very similar to the RV, but I am blown away by the headroom, and the simplicity, and the versatility the RV gave me. With very limited amounts of controls, and options, you can play everything from jazz to heavy metal on this thing, and it kills it, yet without ever losing that Orange tone. The RV 100 MKIII is kind of a Swiss Army knife of an amplifier, without compromising its tone, and I absolutely love that about this amp. The RV100 has some of the best cleans I've ever heard, and when you crank that volume control up you get some really great vintage orange overdrive, The clean channel could be a one channel amplifier in itself, crank the heck out of the volume control and use your guitar volume control to clean it up, and you get such a great classic rock sound from that, add an overdrive pedal and you literally get three usable sounds in any live situation. After all that I have not even talked about the distortion channel. The distortion channel of this amplifier does not try to be anything else except for classic orange overdrive with four stages of gain. When I had my 5150, I was told by my band members that I sounded like I was playing through an orange, heavy on the mid range are used power amp distortion over the preamp distortion, and I kind of did that AC/DC thing on steroids. I really hated that the 5150 kind of became this thing where everyone used it cranked the preamp and it eventually sounded like a boss metal zone. That conversation about my 5150 was back in 2005, and I kind of always wanted to have an orange ever since. This amplifier can be heavy AF or jazz clean, but it doesn't compromise it sound or pretend to be anything that it isn't. I could not recommend this amp anymore, this amp is my voice.

Rockerverb 100 MK II - Orange you glad you have an absolute fire breathing monster in charge of your tone?

By GNelly from Chicago on October 18, 2022 Music Background: Gigging musician

I have been rehearsing at the local studio with my band and our room has a Rockerverb MK II 100 . Wow. It is an absolutely gorgeous amplifier from its shimmering clean tones all the way to overdriven Mordor molten lava crunch and all points between. My guitar player just fell in love...so much so that I just bought one (I am a drummer but I also play guitar).

Absolutely FILTHY

By Ken Hower from Auburn, CA on February 17, 2022

I'm no virtuoso, but I do play live in 2 bands. I've owned both profilers, because I'm nearly 60 now and gigs are getting more exhausting by the minute(Haha) and tube amps. My 3 bands play Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC and Judas Priest. Those are 3 bands far away in the tone department as you could seemingly get, and you'd think perfect for an amp profiler. But there's just something about a full stack pushin' air for Back In Black or piercing ears with Victim Of Changes. During covid, the band decided to rehearse in San Francisco at SIR. Nobody was using it, my buddy Paul is the manager of SIR. I was able to go "AMP" shopping and play any head I wanted, after some testing I couldn't believe how awesome this Orange sounded. So, being like any other musician, I impulsively bought my own! 2 weeks ago, we had our very first live show and my first use of the Orange head in a live show. In the spirit of Y&T, FACEMELTING! This amp is heavy...almost 60lbs, and the tone that comes out of this monster is JUST AS HEAVY. Since this was our first show in years, and all 3 singers (Skynyrd, ACDC, Priest) were there, we tossed in 3 Skynyrd and 6 Priest songs along with 25 AC/DC songs. Changing amp settings in the chaos, wasn't super realistic but I figured I'll just roll with it. I set the amp up for 25 AC/DC, just 3 or 4 on the Gain and my Malcolm Young Signature Gretsch sounded AMAZING...just like cheap version of Malcolm (ie: ME). When the Priest songs came up, I switched to my 87 Charvel Jackson and the Orange without changing a thing with the active humbucker screamed through Devil's Child like Satan himself touched the dials. Then came the challenge, Skynyrd. I took my same 87 Charvel, dropped the active humbucker, switched on the middle pickup, lightened up on the string picking and HOLY HELL, I was headed out towards door with Ronnie. Could I have perfected the tone? Sure...but one amp, 2 guitars, 3 different pick ups all handled flawlessly without touching the dial...just pick ups and string attack for the win. I will keep playing live shows with this monster until I can't pick the head up anymore, and then I'll get a roadie. I love this amp.

Best Amp in the world

Excellent amp, this thing will make you sound like ADAM JONES.

Perfect for any type of music

By John Yentes on April 19, 2020 Music Background: 20+ years playing guitar

let me cut right to the chase in regards to a few specific types of music. This amp is an all out Doom machine. I run a Dunwich DA120 Overdrive in front of the dirty channel of this amp while it is set to low gain (around 3 or 4). I crank the volume up to get those tubes sweating. The tone is unbelievable. It has tons of bass and is well articulated. Kick off the over drive and I am left with the raw tone of the amp. A really fantastic crunch tone that responds incredibly well to picking dynamics and the volume knob on my guitar.

With the gain cranked up and a clean boost in front, this amp morphs into an all out modern metal amplifier. If I run a 10 band EQ in the loop, I can coax some of the most brutal death metal tones out of this thing. and it sounds HUGE. Fully saturated and super punchy.

With the cleans, I can play beautiful ambient chords and nice jazz licks. with the volume cranked, the breakup gives some excellent grit for playing blues too.

The point I am trying to illustrate is this: This amp can do almost anything. I have had many different amplifiers over the years. This one is easily the best I have ever had though. It is extremely versatile. People often describe this amp as very "modern" sounding which to me, was a major drawback when I was thinking about purchasing it. Realistically though, you can get the Rockerverb MKiii to sound like anything you want. If my rockerverb was stolen tomorrow, I would buy another one immediately. I wouldn't even question getting something else. This thing can handle anything from Blues, Jazz, and classic rock all the way to Fuzzed out doom and fully saturated high gain Death metal.

This is a desert island amp for sure.

It just works for everything

This is my second one , it’s just a very versatile amp that u can get about anything out of ......good stuff all around !

Beefy

This is more than I will ever need. I paired this with my Orange PPC 412. This set-up rattles my chest and my neighbors hate me. Excellent purchase. I went with black on both, not that it matters. I just dig the scheme.
Thank you to Cody, my sales engineer. Top notch experience all around. This is the customer service bar everyone should be striving for.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!!!

By Nerak Roth Patterson from Yellow Springs, Ohio on May 4, 2018 Music Background: Nerak Roth Patterson Band

I"ve owned amps from Fenders to Marshall... you name it!!! I now run 2 Rockverbs through 2 Marshall 4x12 and 2 2x12 and both amps run through a Lexicon effects rack stereo splitter. The sound both clean and distorted are the best I"ve ever heard!!! I recently put new Groove Tubes in both amps getting ready for a tour and just when I didn"t think it could get any better...it did!!!

Outstanding Amp

By Kevin P. from Orange County, CA on May 27, 2016

What can I say? The Rockerverb's reputation precedes it and that is for a VERY good reason. The pics only aesthetic is classic and timeless (really looks great with a matched Orange cab).

The clean channel is very glassy and round with lots of headroom and plenty of punch - breakup is smooth and beautiful when the volume knob is pushed. The RV's cleans are not quite as chimey as Fender or Vox and I actually much prefer them over Fender and Vox. This is subjective, but I find the cleans much more pleasing to the ear and much less 'shrill.' Many people try to compare Orange to other brands and the fact is, you just can't. Orange has a very distinct tone which is what makes them unique! They aren't trying to be something else - they are Orange.

As many have said before, the dirty channel is where this amp really shines. I used to have an AD30 and while it is also a truly great sounding amp, it just didn't have that 'special something' that the Rockerverb most certainly does have. The gain is just incredible - very tight low end, lots of midrange punch and very shimmery highs (again without being shrill). Quite simply, it produces one of the smoothest and most 'musical' sounding distorted tones I've ever been lucky enough to achieve and play.

The attenuator, complemented by the 1/2 power and 2/4 power tube switches make it usable in any situation from the bedroom to very large stages. As some may have stated the tone loses some of its luster when the attenuator is pushed to extremes (especially at 1/2 plate voltage) but it still sounds awesome.

I generally don't use much reverb but it sounds great to me and is very usable in band situations. It doesn't have a super long tail like some fender verbs but IMO those only throw mud in the mix.

This has been my dream amp for many years and I am glad I held out for the MKIII version. It looks great, and most importantly sounds amazing. If you're looking for an amp that will cut through with outstanding tone, clarity, versatility and punch, this is for you. It may be on the expensive side but it's worth every penny. I don't think I'll ever buy another amp after this one - if I do it will be another Rockerverb!

OUTRAGEOUS!!!

By Tony from Germantown, Wisconsin on November 29, 2015 Music Background: 40 years playing guitar, and played in 4 bands

I had very high expectations, and I was still totally blown away! I was so impressed that I bought 2 of them. I already have a Marshall 410 Head, and a Peavey 6505 Head, but the King has arrived and its color was Orange. The Rockerverb 100 MKIII is the best amp I have ever owned, and I have owned just about everything there is over the last 40 years playing guitar. The cleans sparkle and shimmer, but the Dirty tones rage from every spot on the dial. Truly remarkable, you need this amp!

Outstanding Head!! Great Tones!!

By John D. from Indiana on August 19, 2015

I recently picked one of these up from Sweetwater and I cannot say enough about it!! Andy Plank is my sales engineer and he took lots of time answering my questions and provided me with real feedback on the amp (He owns one). The sound of the clean channel is unreal. Very "chimey" and "glassy". The gain channel is in a league of it's own!. If you play anything from indie rock to metal the Rockerverb 100 MKIII has you covered. The attenuator is awesome. It allows you to crank the channel volume and get the power tubes working at bedroom levels. I came from a 5150II head and I think there is no comparison. The Orange is just an overall better amp!! And kudos to Andy again!! Proud to now be part of the "Rockerverb Mafia"!!

Its...Amazing and everything youll need.

By Micah on August 12, 2015 Music Background: Rock , metal, Jazz

This amp is Beyond Words. If you want something that can do any thing from Django Rinheart to Sabbath to Deicide, and still be heard over loud blasting drums this is the amp for you. Straight and Simple to the point its just a great electric guitar amplifer. Works great with pedals to. Some amps sound like garbage when you dial the knobs in a certain way, this however will sound musical and alive no matter how youve got it set. Great Reverb and everything you would want to have be footswitchable is. And the Attenuator is my best friend, Ive been leaving the channel volume knobs set at 50% and just adusting the Attenuator and valve output options when i need to switch from jamming with the band and then jamming by myself. Its made in england what can i say. And this amp blew other english amps ive tried out of the water by like 10000000000%

What dreams are made of

By Jay from PA on May 3, 2015 Music Background: 20+ years

First, Sweetwater is fantastic! Shout out to Rich and Nick.
Second, this amp is also fantastic. Own a MKII, this is a different amp! Channel 1, Reverb and the ability to attenuate the sound and wattage amps separate it. Channel 2 sounds a lot like the MKII but clearer. Channel 1 has more chime and will suit your needs very well, very Vox in my opinion but an Orange take on Vox. Push the tubes and you get a great crunch sound!
Channel 2 is classic RV tone, 4 stages of gain so you can go from a slightly broken up tone to the metal zone very easily.
Reverb is much more subtle!! I like it but maybe too subtle?! I like the MKII reverb quite a bit, reminds me of a Fender.
Overall it is a wonderful amp, I am very pleased. I did a Rockerverb duel MKII vs MKIII on youtube if you search for that; it might help you make a decision if you are debating between the two amps. You cannot go wrong with either one or an Orange.

The best production tube amp besides BE1000 by Friedman.
