Retro Instruments 176 Tube Limiting Amplifier Reviews
The Retro Instruments 176 takes its inspiration from one of the holy grails of tube compression, Bill Putnam's classic 176 — forefather to the solid-state 1176 (which became an iconic industry standard). Retro designer Phil Moore's 176 remains largely faithful to the original UA schematic, while sporting embellishments that bring it in line with the requirements of modern music production. If you want exacting dynamics control, while juicing your tracks with scrumptious tubular warmth and air, take it from Sweetwater: Retro Instruments' 176 is an ideal way to do it.

The Best Compressor On The Planet
This thing is wild. It makes vocals sit perfectly. It is very fast for a Vari Mu compressor. It'll do the heavy lifting on its own. It will also play well with an 1176 or LA2A for shared compression synergy. If you are looking for one compressor, this is it. If you're looking for an additional compressor to help your fast or slow compressors, this is it.
Highly Satisfied Retro 176 Owner
This unit really added a 3d weight and Mojo to everything I passed through it. Mainly bass and electric guitars (clean and overdriven) The Interstage transformer and asymmetry switch are also very cool features that help dial in a broader range of behavior from the unit. I am extremely satisfied with this compressor!
