It was a great system but I had to stop using it

By Stephen M. from Brooklyn, NY

I actually really liked this system but I had to stop using it. The issue was that the jacks in two of my basses -- both Foderas, not Walmart basses -- would cut in/out while using it. I think it's because the weight of the transceiver and its asymmetric loading on the jack were shorting out the contacts inside the jack. It worked fine with some other basses, like my much cheaper Fender Kingman.

I liked everything else about it, including the auto-mute when you pulled out the transceiver to put it on another bass. That was so much more convenient than a strap-mounted or belt-mounted transceiver.

Works

By Sweetwater Customer from Pennsylvania

I've had this since 2018. Lost the original transmitter right before they recalled it and got the T2 transmitter. I've never had an issue. I used it for years around the house and never lost signal. Gave it to my son and he uses it on his pedal board with his band and has never had an issue. I've never updated firmware, just use it. Battery goes for hours. I've walked all over my house, upstairs etc. While it's in the basement and it still doesn't drop out. Walked out to the road and that's the only way I could get it to Glitch. It works better than the old Audio Technica one I had in my bands. Love it, for the price it works quite well.

Work great for around 6 ft

By Sweetwater Customer

I have tried auto as well as manually picking channels. It goes from full signal to no signal when you try to walk around the stage. I tried at 5 or 6 different clubs. I just cant trust it.

Intermittent Reception

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Gigging musician

I've used a G10 for years. Lately, that USB power port has become loose, making the unit unstable at best. So, I thought the new G10SII would be a great replacement. It was easy to set up and go, but I stood right at my pedal board where the unit was mounted and watched the signal fluctuate the full spectrum on the scale and occasionally totally drop out. I am sad to say I had to return the system. Until this issue is addressed and corrected by Line 6, I will not be purchasing a replacement. I will use a cable instead, that's how bad it was.

Poor reception

By Jeffery N. from Niles, MI

Standing right at my pedal board, I could see the signal go up and down. Sometimes, it would drop completely and I would lose all sound. Checked for and installed updates with no improvement. Super glad I didn't have this happen at a gig. Sadly, I am returning the system.

Poor Wireless Connection

By Sweetwater Customer from CA
Music Background: Semi-pro bass, for >40 years

If and when this device connects, the sound is fine enough. The problem is that it is an unreliable connection at best. I've tested in numerous scenarios and have not been able to make reliable connections using the Auto function or specific channels. I've tried at rehearsals, on stage and in the confines of my home studio. You do not want to have trouble on stage and this device is a good way to set yourself up for that. I strongly recommend you shop another brand if you are looking for a wireless connection for your guitar or bass.

A Solid Performer

By William D. from Shelton, CT

I upgraded to the G10SII from the old G10II unit. There are several things I like about the new model. Unlike the old model, this one has a power supply with a banana connector instead of a flimsy miniature USB connection. I also like the fact that it uses the same G10TII transmitters that I already own.

Also, automatic 2.4GHz channel selection has been added to this new model, or you can manually select your channel. Other devices on this frequency such as wireless keyboards and mice, or wifi equipment could reduce or otherwise interfere with your transmitter's signal strength. Signal strength from your instrument is now displayed on the unit, as well as your transmitter's remaining battery life. These are both welcome new features.

After using this unit for almost a month now I am totally pleased with the performance, the reliability and the quality and workmanship that went into this new unit.

Cuts Out

By Sweetwater Customer from NC

I've tried using this off and on for a few years and even bought new transmetter per Line 6 recommendation and unit still keeps cutting out randomly regardless of how far I am from receiver. Always had problems with it playing live and now semi-retired and can't even get it to work properly in my office within less than 10 feet away.

One Year Review

By Clint F. from EASLEY, SC
Music Background: Praise & Worship

I waited over a year before reviewing because I had issues with another brand that I tried before this one. I love G10SII, and I'm always shocked at how difficult it is to tell the difference between using a cable and the wireless. Especially in a mix.

I've only had an issue once when we added a third guitar. His cut out intermittently. To be fare, we were all three using the same system, and we were all three using the Auto channel mode. We each changed to using set channels 3, 6, & 9. No more issues.

To put it in context, we have 3 wireless guitars, 7 wireless mics, and 5 wireless IEM's (the rest use Avioms), All of us operating wirelessly on a 40-50' stage with no issues. It's actually kind of impressive/unbelievable, but it works.

I use this while practicing for hours throughout the week, Sunday morning rehearsals and playing for one or two services every Sunday. No battery issues.

It's built tough because I'm taking it back and forth from Home each week. You obviously have to be careful with the transmitter that goes into your guitar. I've never had one break, but I can see how that would be easy to do. -Hope this helps.

No Good

By RJ from Omaha

When you start moving around on stage, the unit cuts in and out. If you stand perfectly still, works great, but that kinda defeats the purpose...Spend the money and get something a little nicer.

Not Good

By Mark P. from Willow Street, PA

Bought this when I was mostly playing in small venues and my small church. Initially, seemed fine. Noticed some drop outs from time to time, but chalked it ups to line of sight.
Eventually, discovered it didn't play nice with active pickups. However, that got resolved when the transmitter died and I was forced to buy a new one which (at this point in time) now could handle active pickups.
I am now playing at a large church where everything is wireless and the drop outs are clearly not line of sight related (as close as five feet away). Tried moving my IEM pack as far from transmitter as possible - no luck; and forget the advertised 130 foot LOS range.
Figured I would continue use and just stay in safe spot. Well today it stopped powering up.
Hello cable!

Don't put it right next to iPads, cell phones, or speakers.

By Jason R. from Thibodaux, LA
Music Background: Jack of all trades.

Read the title again. Yes it will work, but the signal will randomly drop out far more often. Enough for it to be annoying to use. That being said, once I removed it from being near my iPad and speakers, it has been great. There is no noticeable latency. The battery has lasted for as long as I have needed it. I can wander around as far as I need to. I have even played in the next room (one insulated cement wall and metal doors closed) without it dropping out. I love it. So nice not to drag a cord around.

Great, but... If you have an active preamp in your bass or guitar, read this before buying!

By Lonnie W. from Travelers Rest, SC

This is a great unit with a Archilles heel.

As a wireless unit goes, it is FANTASTIC! No noise, no coloration to the sound, no noticeable latency, great battery life, and more than enough range to move around on your typical bar and club stage without dropouts. If you are a performer that likes to stroll to the end of the auditorium, you might want to look at the G30, G50, or better units for that kind of range. But if you never leave the stage and just don't want to step on cables, this little unit is awesome.

The problem (and you'll see this if you Google "Line 6 Relay G10 high pitched noise") is apparent only to some users who have active preamps.

I play a Spector bass with an LHZ preamp which, like a Hazlabs preamp, uses a 3 connector TRS jack to act as a power switch in the bass. When you plug a normal mono cable (eg TS plug) into the jack, it shorts the RING connector carrying the battery negative to the SLEEVE connector which powers the preamp and pickups.

HOWEVER, the G10TII Transmitter for the G10S uses a TRS plug, not a mono TS plug. Line 6 uses the RING connector for charging in the base unit. The transmitter is designed to understand how power switching works on instruments with active pickups, and will work on many of them without issue.

But there is an exception... Basses that use FET based preamps like the Hazlabs or similar have a VERY low current draw. It's low enough that the power pass-thru pass-through circuitry in the transmitter does not work as expected. One those vintage preamps, the RING and SLEEVE connections are also directly connected to the preamp circuit.

The end result is that the G10TII will inject a very high pitched whine in the signal.

HOW TO FIX IT
A 1/4" male to 1/4" female adapter will resolve the noise issue. For me, I used a 1-ft cord with a 90-degree male mono (TS) plug on one end that terminates in a 1/4" female mono (TS) jack that is permanently affixed to my guitar strap. I plug the transmitter onto the strap and am good to go.

While this works well, it does prevent the unit from being used as designed: plugging directly into the bass with no extra cord. So I'm dinging what would have been a 5 star rating down to 4 stars.

Hope this info helps anyone with a active preamp to understand the issue, and plan accordingly. Sweetwater staff: you might want to suggest an adapter cable to folks, or include some sort of "heads up" text to let users with active preamps be aware of the potential issue with this unit.

Works great - fantastic range.

By Patrick H. from Mokena. Illinois
Music Background: Playing at at amateur level for over 40 years.

I have tried less expensive wireless systems for my guitars before and they worked, but there were always issues. This one was well worth the expense. The transmitter is awesome. The XLR DI out is perfect. It even has a cable adjustment to emulate different cable size tones. I can go into the next room without losing connection. When you use multi guitars, it doesn't even pop when you unplug it or plug it in to another guitar. Couldn't be better.

Not Reliable

By Michael B. from Cincinnati, OH

I've tried every channel on this system and I still have drops. I bought it because the transmitter fits directly on the guitar without using any cables. I even shutdown my wifi in my home to see if that would help, and it didn't. I'm going to go back to the Samson, I didn't have any problems there, just wanted a direct connect to the guitar.

Buy something better.

By Josh from TX

This unit worked fine for a while but now I charge it appropriately but it dies way too quickly. Works for less than 30 minutes on a full charge. I wont purchase another. Honestly I might be done with any wireless guitar systems. The cables never let me down. These units always do.

line of sight issues

By Alan S. from Holetown, St J

I've used this unit in several varying locations. The audio quality is excellent. The auto mute connect feature is awesome and very useful.
However this unit fails big time on its primary purpose. The drop outs are frequent and embarrassing if uou are performing. Not a reliable guitar wireless unit. Sorry Line6. You need to do better, and send me a free upgrade!

Automatic Channel Selection

By Ron V. from Springfield, Oh

I recently purchased the "Line 6 G10SII Digital Wireless Guitar System" and I am really pleased with it's performance. The sound quality I get from my Bass Guitar is really crisp and clean sounding. There is no noticeable latency in the signal. It's nice to not having the cord around to trip on.
One thing I learned about its operation that was not made very clear in the documentation that I want to pass along. After charging the transmitter to a full charge, I placed the G10TII Transmitter in the outward travel position of the Receiver. I packed every thing up and traveled to the practice site. Upon arrival, the equipment was hooked up and the Transmitter was placed in the guitar.
When the amps were turned on, the sound signal was choppy and broken up. I returned to the guitar cord and placed the Transmitter back into the charge position of the Receiver. After practice was done, I put the Transmitter back into the guitar and it worked just fine.
What appears to have been the problem, is that the Transmitter should have been moved into the charging position of the Receiver with the power on for a short period of time so that the correct operating channel could be automatically selected for the surrounding environment.
Having this additional operational information may be helpful.
Thanks

Great Relatively Inexpensive Wireless for Guitar/Bass

By Bud I. from Springfield, OR
Music Background: Bass and vocals for over 50 years.

I use this to keep my bass wireless. I have gone through a bunch of lower cost items and they are just not worth it. This setup appears to be very reliable and does not color the sound in any way that I can detect.

The only issue I have encountered is that there is a little pin that sticks out the bottom near where the plug goes into the jack of the bass. When the plug is pushed in, it activates the transmitter. Before I realized that, I couldn't figure out why the unit was cutting out on me. So, when you plug it into your bass or guitar, make sure the pin makes good contact with the jack's nut.

Guitar wireless

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Intermediate guitar player

The range seems to be pretty good. I had problems of a dropped signal as it searched for and reacquired the signal a few times. I finally found a manual channel setting that is more stable. I have the original G10 still in use so I'm thinking that they have been in conflict. Aside from this hiccup, the wireless connection has been a joy to use. It gives me freedom to roam around my space without tripping on cords. It is really nice in a live setting where I get a chance to walk out into the audience, while playing, to hear what they hear.

So far, so good!

By Rick G. from Chattanooga, TN
Music Background: Original hard rock and metal guitarist, singer, and writer.

I got this Friday, used it for band rehearsal yesterday, and love it so far. Time will tell on durability, but I'm not worried about it. If we play with our toys, stuff happens to them. This is my second Line6 wireless system. The last one was ten years ago and it used a body pack. It worked great except that I wore out cables and they were expensive to replace. Okay, here are my observations so far:

1. Sound quality: To my ears, there's no difference between this and a high quality cable. I'm playing two different Strandberg Boden 7's and a Schecter Hellraiser 7 with passive SD pickups through a few pedals into an Orange Rockerverb 50 MkII. The Strandbergs (an original NX 7 and a Boden+ NX 7 with a True Temperament neck) both have Fishman Fluence active humbuckers and I didn't have any of the problems I've heard about using this device with active pickups. I connected the receiver to my wah, which is where I plug in a guitar cable. I haven't played with the cable tone settings yet, just left it off as it was set when I got it. 5/5 on sound quality.

2. RF interference: I have wireless stuff all over the house and studio using the 2.4GHz range including wireless devices in our PA system and mixer controllers, and had zero issues. I left the receiver channel setting on automatic. 5/5 on this too.

3. Range: I walked around the basement playing to find out when the signal would start dropping out. When I got to the other end of the basement which is about 50-60 feet from my pedal board, I started getting dropouts. This is through several walls, wiring, floor jacks, beams, HVAC equipment, etc. Up to that point, the signal was solid. I've read reviews that said the range is terrible and once you're out of line-of-sight it's useless. Maybe there are some bad units out there, but this one is great. If you need to roam around a stadium during a gig, you might need something with more range, but for me this is plenty. 5/5 on range for my purposes.

4. Transmitter: When I started looking at this device, I had concerns about whether the transmitter would fit into the cable jack recess on my Bodens. I emailed my outstanding Sales Engineer Ryan Murray about this and he assured me that it would fit. When I first plugged it in, it did fit. I had the long dimension oriented toward the back of the guitar though at first, and I kept bumping it with my hip and unplugging it. When I plugged it in with the long dimension oriented toward the neck as shown in this picture, it fit perfectly and was well out of the way for standing or sitting, and all my moving around didn't cause any trouble. Having used body packs, I like this better so far. It makes it easier and faster when switching guitars. The unit feels sturdy. I might get a short 1/4" extension cable to plug it in and velcro it or put it in my pocket for use with my Schecter. 5/5 on transmitter design, function, and fit to my guitars.

5. Receiver design: Solidly built and compact. The locking charging jack is a nice touch and the indicator lights are easy to read when standing over the pedal board. The output jack is positioned well for connecting it to the side of my wah with a short right angle cable. The only control I might need to mess with while playing (channel selector) is right on top and easy to reach. It has two power options (USB and standard 9V). I'm just using the wall wart power supply that came with it plugged into my power strip. I don't know if I'll ever need it, but the XLR output might come in handy some day. 5/5 on receiver design and function.

6. Battery: I only had an hour to charge it before rehearsal started and played for about three hours without much battery drain showing on the meter. 5/5 on the transmitter battery. Also, I love the design of this that lets you just plug the transmitter into the 1/4" jack on the receiver to charge it. The only thing there is that I need to remember to leave the power to my pedal board on for it to charge or plug it into a different outlet. 5/5 on battery and charging method.

I'm very happy with this system, and plan to gig with it (with a cable handy for backup, of course). I love wireless! I'm not the most graceful guitarist, and having one less cable to trip over and snag on things is a nice upgrade.

A poor implementation

By Paul B. from Sedona, AZ

My old G10 worked great for 5 years. This newer supposedly better device hardly works at all. The problem: signal dropouts are rampant as has been reported by many users. I can't believe that Line 6 would release such a poorly implemented product. Wifi signals are everywhere these days, apparently Line 6 didn't get that message. This device is majorly affected by other wifi signals, and thus the dropouts. Stay away.

What I Was Hoping For

By Douglas D. from Southern New Jersey
Music Background: 58 years in the business since the Beatles hit in 1963

I knew I was onto something when I saw the "Cable Tone" switch on the back of the unit. Not nearly enough players realize that the length of your guitar cable has an influence on its sound! It meant that the designers of this piece know what they're doing, so there was trust in the quality before I even set it up. I was not disappointed. And with the charger built into the receiver (so you won't lose the transmitter) it's a win-win.

Overall great

By Mark from Johns Creek, GA

This is my 2nd G10SII replacing a well used G10, which still works but the base power connection is sketchy so is on a less used practice rig. I have a G10SII on pedal board and serves me well for gigging and rehearsal. The 2nd is on another rig for practice and taking out when not bringing board. Doubtful very few could discern the wireless vs. wired. Once you've discovered wireless, using a cable becomes cumbersome and I've nearly dragged an amp over more than once. I've rarely run into a battery issue and only due to bad planning. You can play for a few hours, put down the guitar overnight with transmitter still in, come back the next day (or 3) and still usable. Yes, if you bang the transmitter, it can and will break, but is not fragile. The build is solid and the unit is dependable. If you need to roam around a stadium wirelessly, contact Dave Grohl, but if you play smaller venues you have ample mobility.

Not reliable enough to trust

By Sweetwater Customer

Have a spare instrument cable ready! On multiple gigs the dropouts made it useless. But more importantly, I've been through 3 transmitters in less than 3 years. 1st one died just out warranty. the second died in warranty, the 3rd just out of warranty. Just not reliable enough to trust.

Better than G10

By Jerry H. from Arkansas

The G10SII has increased range (line of sight) and has a positive power connection. Also has charge and signal strength indicators. I've only had this model for a short time but I am pleased with it, so far.

The G10SII is far better then the G10 (which uses micro USB for power) and the price difference is minimal.

Jim Swain is my sales person and is very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with.

By John Q. from Verona, NJ
Music Background: Intermediate guitar, bass

Just plug it in, let it charge, and start playing. Works fine/flawless in my home. Now, I can easily practice/play without cables, especially not clogging up my space around the house. I've moved to other rooms (plaster walls here) and the sound continues without any drop/degradation. Have not used in any gig - but will once I have some experience with the duration of the battery charge.

Works out of the box, but ages rapidly. 3 gigs in and it snapped on me.
Got the Warranty, but that was useless.
Second one doesn't even work. Had it out of the box for 1 day and it died. Plugged in for 4 hours and no response.
Went through every forum and Updater for firmware to hold on to the last remnants of hope I had on this thing and caved.

Its been 2 months going back and forth with Line 6 and they have me jumping through hoops to have them REPLACE THIS HUNK OF JUNK that I don't even want to use anymore because 3rd time will not be the charm.

Convenient for Yamaha THR30

By NEO from NEO
Music Background: Playing guitar/bass for 40+ yrs

It's really convenient to use with my Yamaha THR 30 but the range is pretty bad if you're not in direct line of sight or, if for example, the amp is sitting on a countertop and you're sitting below the countertop, it will drop connections easily.

I use it for rehearsal all of the time and I get occasional drop out. I used it for two different outdoor gigs this summer, and I had really bad dropouts on both where I had to replace the wireless with a cable. The unit is mounted to my pedalboard, which is literally less than 6 feet away from my bass with direct line of sight all the time.

So again, it's great and convenient to use with my Yamaha, but otherwise not a great choice.

Line 6 Should Be Better Than This

By MICHAEL B. from Farmington, NM
Music Background: Serious amateur guitarist since '68

I bought my Relay G10S about 2 years ago. It had light use only at home. I had it plugged into my Les Paul and set it on the sofa for a minute which pressed the transmitter just slightly and the plug after that was a little loose, but it still worked. A few days later it's dead. Seems it should be a little tougher than that.

Line 6 has a winner in the Relay G10S

By Richard T. from Scottsdale, AZ
Music Background: Bass Guitar

I don't like to prepare a review until I've used a product for awhile. The Relay G10S has proven to be a dependable wireless system for my bass guitar. I have it velcroed onto my pedal board to make transport easy. The device works well when I move around and I haven't experienced interference with other band members or outside sources. I switch to wired playing in the studio from time to time and I do not notice any change in sound quality. The Relay G10S is pretty simple: plug and play.

Line 6 G105II Easily Could Be Better

By John K. from Texas
Music Background: Piano, Trumpet, Guitarist, Bass, Producer, Recording studio owner.

The Line 6 G105II is a solid product. But with a couple of changes it could lead the way. The transmitter goes to mute after 4 minutes of no signal. Waking it up is the problem. You have to play a few notes to get it unmute which in a lot of settings is very inconvenient. Particularly in church. I a lot of church services there are periods of no music lasting longer than 4 minutes. The transmitter goes to sleep and you cannot wake it up with out playing a few notes. So if I know there is going to be dead time I remove the transmitter from my bass so do not have to play a few notes to get it to wake up.

Also, it is a little bit of a hassle to remove the transmitter from the base unit. I have to use two hands. It would be nice if this ere not the case although it could just be me.

Otherwise, it is a solid product.

Awesome if you can stay away from WiFi Hubs

By Jerry E. from Westminster, CO

I have both the G10SII and an older G10. The older G10 is rock solid never a single issue in the past 4 years playing at Bars, out-door parties (next to a large power distribution transformer), and my house with a WiFie mesh network with 3 repeaters. The G10SII has more cool features (like battery life feedback on the receiver), but it does flake out if it is near to one of my WiFi Mesh units.

Line 6 Relay G10SII Digital Wireless Guitar System

I am in a classic rock band and was getting tired of stepping on cords at rehearsals and gigs. I found the Line-6 guitar system, and so far so good! Works just as I was hoping with no problems whatsoever! It's about as easy of a setup as you can imagine, and the sound quality is fantastic!

overall very dissapointed

By William B. from Kansas City, MO.

I have owned both G10 and G10S and my major issue with these devices is Crosstalk. In our group I am one of two six string guitarists and we both also use acoustics so at any given time we used to have 4 of these units on stage working simultaneously and when we were both using the G10's sometimes my guitar would be playing out of the other guitarists amp or even one of the acoustic amps...which ever reciever aquired is where the signal went. I feel like if only one was in use on a stage there would be no problem but as it stands with our band they are a complete waste of money. We are now back to using guitar cords and what ya know...no guitars cutting out. If you are the only one in the band using one of these it will probably work well otherwise I'd suggest moving on.

Line 6 Relay G10SII, Love it!

By Sweetwater Customer

I needed an upgrade to my wireless guitar system. The Line 6 had great reviews, so I went with the newest version. Excellent relay!! Long battery life, great range, and very nice design. I have used it at practice and live, very dependable. I would recommend to anyone needing a wireless guitar system. Thanks to my great sales rep Larry Reed, for helping me with the purchase. Always great customer service.

No complaints here

By Rick from Melbourne Fl
Music Background: Many years in the profession.

I don't know if other reviewers just got lemons or what. I've had mine for about 6 months and have had absolutely ZERO ISSUES. No problem with interference or distance issues. If I have a complaint it would be that the amount of standby time might not be as long as advertised. No problem getting through an evening of playing although to be safe I generally plug it into receiver between sets.

Great idea but poor implementation

By Glenn W. from Virginia

I love Line6 products generally and have used almost all of their wireless line. I loved the G10 and picked up the G10S because of the power choices as well as the line out option. All looked great until I got it home and tried to used it. Now a year or more later, I'm still frustrated and just want to get rid of it.

The big issue is the interference. It is so much less tolerant of nearby wireless routers. With the older one, I have zero issues but with this newest model, it drops out continuously. I've tried multiple channels and tried moving it around to no avail. I tried it once again at a live gig and it dropped out so much that I went to a cable. And the guitarist was using one as well and had to go to a cable while the front man on a Boss system had zero issues.

I understand that nothing is guaranteed but a product that is this sensitive - more sensitive than the older model - should not have made it to market.

Anxiously awaiting an upgrade that will actually work.

I bought this from Sweetwater truly poor decision. Very short battery life and NO range at all.

Keep looking

By Dave

Transmitter fob is very obtrusive and prone to breakage if you ever sit with your guitar. Most other transmitters are hinged and fold out of the way. This one doesnt. Had to upgrade firmware, which was a major hassle, requiring me to set up accounts, complex passwords, etc...and STILL had to wait for suppoet to activate account.

Bought another brand and gave this one away, with well wishes.

Pathetic performance

By Todd from Astoria, NY

I can barely get 6 feet of range out of this thing. It will fully cut out if i turn sideways and even my leg blocks a direct line of sight to the receiver. I can't believe how terrible this thing is. Completely unusable. this is in contrast to the Boss Waza Air wireless headset I have, which works perfectly, with admittedly much shorter range.
