Way Huge Red Llama Overdrive MkIII Smalls Pedal Reviews
The Way Huge WM23 Red Llama MkIII Smalls is a sonic re-creation of an early-'90s RL2 Red Llama — Way Huge's first production model. The Red Llama MkIII Smalls conjures all the sonic goodness of the original stompbox, churning out crunchy, tweed-style harmonic overdrive that's guaranteed to please. Whether you're aiming for subtle grit or brutal crunch, the Red Llama MkIII Smalls will oblige, with all the touch sensitivity and camelid-fueled mojo you can handle. For reference, the original Red Llama is what fueled Tom Petty's electric guitar sound during the later stages of his career. The Red Llama MkIII Smalls delivers that same familiar sound, but it packs it into a pint-sized enclosure that will fit on all but the most crowded of pedalboards. The iconic Red Llama can be found in countless Sweetwater guitarists' rigs. And now, thanks to the Red Llama MkIII Smalls, you can add it to yours.

Instant tweed amp
The red llama is a very amp like pedal , it feels like a second channel on my amp , cleans up well with the guitar volume knob , sounds great with both single coils or humbuckers ,It has a very open sound with all frequencies present and no loss of low end, very articulate even on high settings. Very versatile pedal can be used for either a natural sounding boost or natural sounding harmonic rich overdrive. On high settings it can sound like a combination of a mild fuzz and overdrive but for the most it sounds like a cranked up tweed amp . It excels when played through an amp that is on the edge of break up .
If you're into classic rock this pedal nails it .
I'm in love with it
The EHX Hot Tubes Nano has been my favorite overdrive since I got it about 9 years ago. Sometime since then, I heard of this Way Huge Red Llama and became been curious about it. Now that it's in production again, I had to try one and WOW, I'm glad I did.
The Hot Tubes does has a greater range of tones than the Red Llama, but the Red Llama just sounds better. There's less bass and better focused mids, clearer but with no fizz on top. It's like plugging into the best amp you've ever played (probably an old Tweed).
This is now my favorite overdrive. I'm seriously addicted to it.
Oh Mama Love that Red Llama
Just receive the this Red Llama from Sweetwater. This is the closest thing I have found so far to really give you a true amp breakup sound. It has that great sizzle with none woolliness that I have experienced with many many other overdrives, I mainly using this on my G&L Fullerton Deluxe legacy Single coils and like I said it sounds great. It is pretty close to that sound in my head!
Little box, big wooly bite!
So I can't compare to the original or mkII, I've built a clone and it sounds pretty good. Not like this, though. Not sure exactly how to describe it - it goes from a nice dirty boost (volume up, gain dialed to about 9 o'clock) to a gnarly, sustain-filled, wooly (almost gated fuzz-ish but not) awesomeness when you turn the gain dial up. I've only run it through a vox ac-15 (top boost channel, little gritty) and it pushes the front end right on up there.
All in all, I got this pedal 2 or 3 weeks ago and it has been the only thing between my guitar and amp since. So easy to find a great sound with only 2 knobs - lots of control in those so you can dial in a wide range of gnarl. Its the pedal where you push the button and let it take you where it wants you to go. Great sound, unique voice, super easy to dial in!
Great pedal!
This sounds great and looks cool. Captures what the original was like in a very small format. Very very cool pedal.
