Exactly what I had hoped for!
This Mesa oversized 4x12 lives up to the hype and beyond. I've played through many high end cabs and nothing comes close to this one. I play detuned metal and this does it amazingly. You can't go wrong with this choice.
Can't go wrong with a Recto cab
There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said about the Recto cabs, best in the business. Thank you Sweetwater and Chris Lewis for the amazing customer service and fast shipping
Blew my neighbor’s mind
Had my neighbor, who's kind of nihilistic, come stand in front of my new dual rec with this 4x12… He smiled, lol, a lot. He said, "it's not often my mind is completely blown". I for one agree. The lows, we al know, they're there for sure. You'll rattle the walls of whatever room you're in. You'll "feel" the music". I don't know how loud this thing gets, our minds were blown with the dual rec at 12 and the output on like 8 o'clock! Cleans are gorgeous, warm and articulate. Had my daughter go across the street and listen and she said it sounds as good across the street as standing in front of it.
OH, I didn't even mention the build quality. I'M A FURNITURE BUILDER and this thing is NICE! It's a HEAVY cab and comes with nice casters already attached. Get help, work smart not hard. If any of you know carpentry and can appreciate. It's a heavy wood of course but the way it's cut, routed and the leather (THICK) stretched over it, the thick corner bumpers and my favorite part… the back. The backing plate that is screwed into the cab is PERFECTLY squared into the cab. No more gap at the top than the bottom or left than righ. The screws are screwed in firmly but don't protrude the leather and don't leave space for a piece of paper (or hair and crud) to catch under. THE JUTE!!! Oh my God the jute grill was the first thing I touched. It's HEAVY. Like, thick, strong jute. You could make lasting patio furniture out of it. Whoever their jute supplier is, is supplying some incredibly high quality stuff. I've felt many cabs and this is by FAR the best constructed cabinet (piece of furniture) I've ever seen. I display it proudly in my living room. Stop waiting, you know the reputation of the Mesa Straight Standard and it well precedes it. You need this and something with Green Backs and you're done for life. Buy once cry once.
Unreal deep and clear sound
This is the best guitar cab I've ever owned or played through. Even at studio volumes it has this sub-bass thump going on that you can feel. The sound really cuts at higher volumes and, of course, this cab is perfect for metal, but also really sounds great for any style of music. Using mine with an Orange Rockerverb and a Laney Ironheart for a heavy/post-metal type sound, going back and forth between cleans with effects and high gain, and both sound incredible through this cab. The cleans come through really articulate as well, even with heavy delay. Just got mine here at Sweetwater and even though these cabs are expensive, I couldn't be happier and it was very much worth the investment. I also own a Marshall 1960a that I love for a different style/sound of music and I love that cab as well (mostly with a Marshall DSL head but also with the Rockerverb), but this Mesa cab is special.
There is a reason this cab has become the standard in modern metal. (See what I did there?)
I ordered this cab on a Sunday night and to my surprise it was sitting in my living room Tuesday morning. Sweetwater definitely got it together with customer service and shipping. As for the cab. I love it! I play a mix of Black-Death-Trash metal. From snarling highs, tight mids, to tight thundering lows. This cab handles everything that I have thrown at it during practice. Paired with my Peavy XXX this cab is a beast. The best part is I can now cut through bass and drums without turning up so loud I blow us out of the room. Very happy with this cab for sure.
Holy **** Batman
Hot ****! Thanks Mesa!
Everything.. True.
Sweetwater, you folks rock!
Should have sent a poet.
Awesome Cabinet, Great Service
This cabinet has great sound quality and sounds massive. I looked at a ton of positive reviews about it prior to purchase and was not disappointed when I finally got to play through it. It's built like a tank, sounds great at lower volumes and, with a decent amp, will get insanely loud and maintain clarity.
Also, my salesperson, John Tonello, and Sweetwater customer service were amazing through the purchase process and after the purchase. They went above and beyond by fixing an issue that was caused by the shipping company. They handled the issue in a way that was better than what I was hoping would happen. The Mesa cabinet and the Sweetwater customer service have exceeded my expectations.
Legendary for good reason. It is The One.
I've tried multiple heads, modelers, pedals, cabinets, etc, in pursuit of a rig that can support the diverse tonal palette I need for church and the heavier music I enjoy. I have multiple 4x12 cabs with various Celestion drivers. I found cabs and drivers I liked for cleans and others for overdriven tones, but never one that was great at both. I had a good clean tone, but my high gain tone was muddy. In a leap of faith, I ordered the Mesa Standard Recto 4x12 Straight hoping it would help.
After arriving from Sweetwater, it did that and much, much more!
On my 6505+ head, I was able to drop treble and presence settings from 9 to 5, simultaneously. I was also able to drop the bass and resonance from 7-8 to 4-5. My tone had the same brightness but without harsh, unmusical treble spikes. Even at high gain, the note separation blows me away! The Mesa cab has full, punchy, and tight lows. Highs are articulate and beautiful. They cut through a mix but not your eardrums.
It makes my playing more accurate as I hear and respond to my true and honest tone at any gain level.
I got this to help my feeble shredding but I found that it is a beautifully balanced cabinet.
It is The One cabinet that does it all.
I can use it for every sound that I need: delay-soaked crystal cleans, chewy edge-of-breakup blues, EVH-honoring harmonic dive-bombs, soft finger style for hymns, djent chugs, whatever. It does it all beautifully.
Granted, it won't sound like a compact open-back cab with an 8" Jensen, but that's not why you are reading this now is it? You are seeking massive tone that only Mesa delivers.
It's big. It's heavy. It's power hungry. It can be loud enough to make your dead neighbors call the police. It's impractical for church and small venues. It hates stairs, small cars, and your lower back. It's a bit of a flex. And after playing through the Mesa 4x12, you will not care about any of that. It's legendary for good reason. And that reason is TONE!
Mesa cabs rule!!
First of all I would like to thank Sweetwater for making it possible for me to get the gear I want. And also thank John tonello for being on top of everything and answer any questions I have. My new Mesa gear is awesome!! Again. Thanks a lot.
Awesome
Sounds great. I recommend this over most because of its oversized greatness. It's got some clean lows and a good punch matched with my dual rec rkII.
Built like a tank!
I bought this to go with my Dual Rectifier, and it is the most massive sounding 4x12 I've ever owned. Well worth every penny spent, and every pound lifted for gigging (Thankfully this beast of a cab has casters!). It produces a very lush low end, without sacrificing any mids or high presence. Every one of my heads that I have ran through this cab sounds so much larger and, in my personal opinion, better than it ever had before.
Mesa Rectifier Standard Cab
Never had any complaints in regards to Mesa Cabs other than the weight but that's not the point behind it. Sound has always been top quality. With the oversized straight cab you get good low end without the degradation of the other frequencies. This cab was definitely a good buy.
Great Cab
Really solid cab that you can't go wrong with. My other big cabinet is a Marshall 1960 (4x12) and I compared this cabinet to it in a side-by-side comparison. The tone is really good, but deeper and a bit darker/richer than the Marshall cabinet. Not saying it is better or worse, just that it has a slightly different and deeper tone to it. The construction is like a tank and this thing is really heavy, which means it is really well built. The built-in rolling casters are nice (and a must) because it is really too heavy to move around much. My favorite use of this cabinet is to use as stage/studio monitor while using a Kemper profiling amp. It really produces a nice, rich sound when used this way. Other amps that I have tried with this cabinet with good results include a Marshall JCM800 and a Peavey 6505+ and both sound good through the Mesa. A very solid cabinet that I will use for many years to come...
Wow
My only regret is not buying it sooner. Replaced my valveking 4x12 with this and I was blown away! I'm the guy who shops around until I find a promo/deal but with sweetwater you get 110% on service, shipping & inspection!
the ONLY cab to buy
i have 3 other 4 12 cabs and 2 1 12's in my studio. i use a triple recto and a mini recto for heads.after years of frustration trying to get my metal tone i pulled the plug and got the recto cab.wish i had years ago.best cabinet ever.this will never leave my studio.Great assistance from sweetwater in ordering it too.no more gutar center for me.for my fav store!!
Beast and Best
Best cab on the market by far. Its got it all. Simply AMAZING.
Awesome
This cabinet gave me the low end I was looking for. The high end is also very clear. Massive in both sound and size, it is well worth the money.
Great, gig worthy cab
You can't beat Mesa for build quality. This is a very sturdy well built cabinet that really moves some air. It has a nice full sound to it with tons of low end, cutting mids and a nice top end presence, which is mainly courteous of the v30 speakers, but a lot of that low end comes from the oversized construction of the cab. This cab also comes made with true birch plywood, removable casters, which are extremely handy when moving from one place to another (it's a must have for touring bands). On top of all that, it's a really cool, classy looking cabinet, all black with the mesa engineering logo on front. Love it.
Great Mesa cab!
Great cab with great sound, and you probably already knew that. Worth every penny. I recommend this cab to everyone.
