MXR EG74 Raw Dawg Overdrive Pedal Reviews
Every time Eric Gales delivers one of his trademark southpaw serenades, it's a jaw-dropping experience. His combination of mind-blowing licks and scorching-hot tone never fails to gratify. Eric's signature MXR Raw Dawg is based around a classic, tried-and-true overdrive circuit. That said, it's been custom-voiced for balanced mids and increased gain. What's more, this effects pedal's simple 3-knob interface makes dialing in your sound a breeze. We really dig the Raw Dawg here at Sweetwater. Plug into this electrifying stompbox, and you'll experience a searing, blues-inflected grind that's guaranteed to inspire your tastiest licks. The Raw Dawg also boasts a classic MXR mini housing that takes up minimal pedalboard space.

That Dog Bites !!
I had no doubt that this pedal would be great .Eric Gales is a killer player this pedal sounds great with my Strat and it sounds great with my Les Paul..the Strat sounds warm with a little bite.the gain has a growl and still stays transparent even at higher gain.this one is going to go on my pedal board for a long time .on the Les Paul it make it sound fat and the bridge pickup screams. and as always Thank you Randy Poteete for sending it out fast Sweetwater is my go to for my gear .
Raw Dawg pedal
Bought this is a Christmas present for my husband, and he absolutely loves it!
A TS style pedal that does it's own thing
I own and have owned several TS style pedals in the past. I currently own an MIJ TS10, Ibanez MSL, King Tone Duelist 2022, a "boutique" TS style pedal and the MXR Raw Dawg. This is one of the few TS-style pedals that sound and feel amazing with the gain dimed. Do not be afraid to push the tone knob past noon, you would be pleasantly surprised. You can get some D*$mble-esque tones with the gain dimed on this pedal. Check it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Great Pedal
Perfect edition to my Blues Jr. amp! Highly recommend for a rock/blues tone.
I really love this!
I use this with my Tele and Fender Champion, and it's perfect. Kicks up just the right amount of dirt for me!
MXR Raw Dog Overdrive
Has become my go to overdrive. Great mid punch. Similar to a tube screamer with a little more bite when needed. Works great with solid state amps.
Just perfect amount of bite and grit, but not to harsh.
Looked for a long time and lots of reaserch. and chose this bad mamma jamma of a pedal. This thing is just what i needed like i said just perfect.
Eric Gales is a monster player!
Big tone in a small pedal doesn't begin to describe it. It's got a permanent spot on my board that goes through my Tone King MKII. It's a great combination. Alone or with any other type of pedal I can get the sounds I hear in my head. Tone chasing is a lifetime adventure and this is a great place to start.Awesome!
Raw Dawg
Great pedal! The range of the drive is great with n on dramatic jumps. It can provide a great semi-clean boost when the drive is off. The tone range is great, and volume does what's needed.
The only problem I found was that the input jack wouldn't allow a quarter inch cable to go in all the way. It probably sticks out about an 1/8 of an inch instead of being plugged in all the way. It still works just fine, it just doesn't look right.
Awesome pedal! I haven't gotten over how sick it sounds.
Great sound questionable form
I love the sounds I can pull out of this RawDog petal. If you are playing at home maybe studio this will work. However. Day one ai took it to rehearsal. Small size, black petal while performing its a fail for me. In a dark environment this petal is not easy to fine. Get bright cables! Why the small form factor. You have to be ultra precise while playing to hit that button. I had several misses. Great effect but you work for it.
Nice warm overdrive
The OD sounds great pushing tube amps. I have found one spot that I really like the tone the best at. It is tone and drive at 1 o'clock then output at 12 o'clock. You can use the volume on your guitar to really control the drive nicely. Nothing special just really solid!
Not what I had hoped for.
Sometimes pedals sound fine in a video but not that great with your rig. I needed a mini distortion box for my easy carry pedal board and this seemed to fit the need. Now I have it. To my ear this pedal produces more distortion than I want, and a lot less tone than I can live with. With the Raw Dawg my nice rich PRS sounds like the sound is coming out of the narrow end of a funnel. I suppose it would be fine for rocking out in your bedroom, but that isn't what I needed it for. It will never see a stage in my rig. Bust.
