A very efficient unit.

By Kevin T. from Coatesville, IN
Music Background: Guitarist of many decades, recording engineer (mostly retired)

The single rack space makes it easy on space. The inputs for mono or stereo, 1/4" plugs is excellent for getting the right mix of multiple instruments. Using XLR to 1/4" makes it useful for throwing in a mic or two as well. The unit has a decent signal to noise ratio and is clean and quiet. Sound is fairly transparent. Going by ear only it seems to have a little bump in the lower mids, around 250 to 500 hz, as a guess. Controlling everything from a 4 space rack, this unit can't be beat. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed it.

Quiet and compact

By Sweetwater Customer from BRICK, NJ

I use this to mix/switch/send many stereo sources (synths, etc) into a single stereo output and then into a SPDIF ADC and then into my Interface for recording. It works beautifully for that and only takes 1U of rack space. It doesn't seem to introduce any noticable noise, and the pushbutton channel mute switches on the face make it a great 'switch' for stereo sources as well. I have not been able to find any other product in this form factor with 8 stereo inputs, so that really sets it apart.

Behringer RX1602 Mixer

By Dave H. from Hampton, Va.
Music Background: Embarassing, but getting decent at recording!

My application will seem "out of the swim lane" here....I am a Ham Radio operator. Multiple radios, some with dual receive, total of 7 receive channels are summed by this mixer, which feeds a set of JBL LSR308 Monitors. Spectacular to be able to listen to multiple frequencies on multiple radios, sum what is desired via the Mon/FX send output, pan a specific radio as desired. Very QUIET, which is very important to me, headphone output with its own level is very convenient. Future, I will surely need another of these, no hesitation at all. Absolutely nothing to gripe about, very pleased. Thanks Spencer Kennedy!

Excellent Straightforward Unit with Low Noise Floor

By Josh S. from Charleston, SC

I'm building out a rack for studio listening without breaking the bank (both through speakers and in headphones) and this unit is a little gem. Low Noise Floor removed the 'hum' of other tech in the same price point (Rolls Mix Mate 3) and brought in additional functionality. Nice clean stereo separation. 4 of 5 stars because in typical Behringer fashion the manual is light on details, but in pushing a few buttons and twisting a few knobs the unit was easy enough to figure out.

Second time around with a 1602…

By Mark from Kansas
Music Background: Electric bassist

I owned a V.1 RX1602 years ago. Worked great! Changes in music gear needs had me sell it. Fast forward to now and I needed a line mixer for my music room. For the money, these units are a great value and the V.2 serves my requirements perfectly.

It's a steal at twice the price

By Lance Z. from Ellicott City, MD

I've been using this over the past couple years to sub-mix my outboard amps. By "outboard" I mean amps outside of my Axe-FX III. I have two tube amps into reactive loads into cab sims (REVV Gen 120 MkIII has that built in; Bartel Sugarland head goes into a Fractal Audio X-LOAD LB-2 into a UAFX OX Stomp), and currently three Universal Audio UAFX virtual amps. These five "outboard" amps have changed a little over the past couple of years, but this RX1602 V2 has been the sub-mix anchor point to get them into my Universal Audio x8p for recording.

Bottom line: it's a solid piece of kit. It works as advertised. It's dead quiet. It's straightforward to use. I'm a studio rat, so mine has not been subjected to road wear. But for regular studio use, it has worked well and solved a problem that could have cost much more to solve.

As a side note, I have invested in other gear to make this all happen, for example I own four Radial Audio ProD2 passive DI units: one for each (of the 3) UAFX virtual amp, and one for the UAFX OX Stomp. This is to ensure that the instrumental-level output of the UAFX pedal is converted to line-level signal for the RX1602 V2 inputs. Strictly speaking, that isn't required (I could just muck with the UAFX output levels, and adjust the input selectors on the RX1602 V2). But I'm a studio nerd, so if the RX1602 wants line-level input signal, I give it line-level signal.

Overall, great product. Dirt cheap! And it seems solidly made, like I said: simple and quiet.

Great line mixer !

By Echo K.
Music Background: Professional, recording, artist

I needed a mixer but didn't have any room for a desktop mixer.
I already had a Behringer line mixer but it only had two stereo channels.
So what I liked about the Behringer RX 1602 was that it was all stereo or all mono.
Check out my unboxing video on my YouTube channel.
I love Behringer gear.
And one more the this thing is pretty quite!

The Behringer RX1602 V2 Rackmount Line Mixer rocks!

This single space rack mount mixer greatly improves the requirement for pre-mixing rack mount sound modules. It's excellent for a one space unit that performs well beyond anyone's expectations. This is my second unit from Sweetwater, and I recommend that you purchase one to improve your sound requirements! Money well invested!

My 2nd RX160 and a great addition

By Floyd O. from GREENVILLE, SC
Music Background: Drummer, Retired Recording Engineer and Studio Owner, Synth owner and Programmer since 1972.

I first reviewed this in April of 2022. Since then my Synthesizer and overall setup has grown, to say the least. After the last 18 months of adding new gear to my Music Workstation Studio, constantly moving things around to accommodate it all and growing a sloppy nest of wires behind it all it was time for me to do a MAJOR rewiring of everything. I pulled my entire Synthesizer Workstation apart and did a complete rewiring, routing and proper bundling of all of the Power Adapters, Wall Arts, and Audio cables. Part of his process was making a better plan for where and how all of my Synths, Drum Machines, and Sound Modules would better Interface with my Tascam Model 12 and workflow. I decided I needed another Behringer RX1600 Pro.

With this second Line Mixer I was able to now feed my 5 Modular Behringer Synths (Neutron, K-2, Pro-1, CAT and Model D thru a Passive Mixer Box into the first 2 Channels of the RX1602, Channel 3/4 have my CRAVE, 5/6 my Arturia MicroFreak, 7/8, 9/10/11/2 Empty leaving me room for more….. OH NO
Channels 13/14 have my Behringer RD6 and 15/16 L/R Outs of Behringer Blue Marvin ARP 2600. What's nice about this setup is:
1- None of these Synths have built in Effects
2- I feed the Stereo Out of the RX1600 into Channels 1&2 of my Tascam which have the INSERT points. I can then use those for my ZOOM MultiStomp Effects Box (or any other Effects Device). This now gives me the option to add Effects beyond what the Tascam offers to any or all of these Synths. This works very well for me as I rarely use all of these Synths at the same time and when and if I do they typically can share a common effect nicely.

My other RX1600 has all of my other Synths and Drum Machines assigned to it( HydraSynth, DigiTone, 5 Roland Boutiques, Korg Volca FM2 and Sample 2) and its L/R outputs feed Inputs 3 & 4 respectively on my Tascam 12. Channel 5 has my Drum Brute Impact, Ch 6 is Empty, 7&8 are fed the L/R Outs of my Moog Matriarch, 9&10 are fed from a MACKIe Big Knob Passive Switch which has my turntable into Channels A and my Alesis SR16 into Channels B, so it's an easy switch for when I want to play some Vinyl Albums through my system.

Overall this new setup with their addition of the 2nd RX1600 has been great. Just like my first review, the RX1600 line mixer is a gem in terms of my options. It is quiet and can handle any signal. The inputs are selectable for +4dBu or when the switch is depressed (-10 dBV), the inputs are
more sensitive. The 7-digit level Left and Right meters are very accurate and the front Mute switch for each channel is a bonus. It fits nicely in the rack under my left side Workstation. It is very solidly made. And.... you can't beat the price. oh and yes, Synthesizers are a bit old an addiction, especially in todays world of technology where you can get such incredible machines for a fraction of what they once cost back in the 70's and 80's.

Good keys mixer. Dead silent so far

By Sweetwater Customer from Evans, GA

I'm well aware of the manufacturers rep for device longevity, but I can't attest to that here, having owned this for a week. What I can say is that for monitoring balanced outs from synths and my audio I/Os secondary outs, this thing is absolutely quiet. No channel crosstalk, lots of clean gain. Love the detented knobs.

For more money I could get a stereo send or two and maybe increased roadworthiness, but none of that matters for my application.

I'm content, and as long as the internals hold together over the next few years, I'll stay that way.

15 years constant use on the 1602 series...across 4 units. Outstanding reliability!

By Sweetwater Customer

We use these in 4 aerobics studios getting daily usage and usually being left on all the time. I expected the mixers not to last our instructor abuse and the potentiometer controls to get scratchy. Nope! Not a scratchy control. They've outlasted every piece of equipment in each rack. What is inside is a clean design using a toroid AC power transformer, standard rectification to around +-26volts DC and then a +15 and a -15vdc linear regulator. Two PCB's hold the input mic preamps and the front controls.

Behringer makes some very nice products. We also use the Behringer guitaar amp type powered cabinets for portable sound systems. They have great bass. We slave two at gym events and they'll blast out to a gym full of fans, no problem. Much cleaner and louder then the multiple speaker overhead PA system for the gym.

Perfect for synth studios

By Michael N. from Lansing, MI

The problem: I had more outputs from my synths and modular gear than I had inputs on my audio interface. I didn't want to spend the money on more inputs with the same quality AD conversion so I decided on a cheap line mixer. I also had an extra 1/4" patchbay with nothing connected to it, so a rack mixer was preferable. After debating all the options available, I took a chance on this and it's perfect. Signal path is surprisingly clean - "Ultra Low Noise" isn't marketing hype here.

Currently have my MPC One, Elektron model:cycles and Korg Opsix running into it, and with audio coming out of all of them there's plenty of headroom. Recording a stereo submix from this mixer sounds great on playback. Individual mutes and balance per channel are all nice options too. If you have a bunch of synths/drum machines/etc. and need a cheap solution to monitor the overflow, this is absolutely worth your time.

Stands Up To The Seasons

By Kevin K. from Southern Wisconsin
Music Background: Enthusiast, but NOT A D-J!!

It's now 2023 and I've had mine since around 2008. Still kickin and just as high! What makes this unique is that it's been housed in a customized sound truck that has endured temps from sub-zero to a sweltering 100+ degrees for those years, even being operated live in the latter. Lots of vibration while traveling also. It sits at the top of a 6-space Gator short rack case and serves as the primary submixer to four wireless mic receivers and channels for CD, iPhone, Weather Radio, and Aux. Then the stereo signal goes on it's merry way thru various ancilliaries and multiple amps. The monitor-out signals from the mics feeds the insert point on the compressor for ducking the music when speaking. It's the perfect tool in the arsenal and you're hard-pressed to find such a versatile equivalent. And it's also a very handsome gent!

The best mixer for a room of synthesizers

By Andrew M.

I've used version 1 of this mixer for a few years. I recently bought version 2 from Sweetwater. Version 2 has a massive improvement in headroom while still having the same excellent low noise. You can really throw some signal at each channel without it clipping. Version 2 uses about half the depth in rack space and is lighter in weight. The reference lines on the knobs don't line up with the ones on the faceplate as well as version 1. I prefer the output meters on version 1, because they look more expensive, but both versions function the same. I would gladly give up the real estate that the mono send/return feature uses in exchange for bigger level knobs and/or metering on each channel in a version 3. Overall, it's still the best solution for people who have alot of keyboards and need multiple, balanced/stereo inputs.

These are great mixers--last forever....NO scratchy controls ever

By Sweetwater Customer

We've used these style Behinger rack mount mixers in 6 aerobics rooms running several times a day for literally 8 years straight. Behringer must use some great potentiometer controls because they flat-out DON'T get scratchy. Nice clean design inside too. Has a big toroid transformer and conventional power supply linear regulators.

Great Line Mixer for my Studio Workstation Modular Synths and more!

By Floyd O. from GREENVILLE, SC
Music Background: Musician and Recording Engineer for a VERY long time.

I needed some additional inputs for my Tascam Model 12 to handle some of my Modular Mono Behringer Synths and this line mixer fits the job perfectly. I'm using the first 3 Left Mono Inputs of the RX1602 for my Pro 1, Neutron and K2. The Left and Right Outputs feed into my 5&6 Inputs on my Tascam Model 12 leaving me options for other future Stereo or Mono feeds from the RX1602. With it set up this way I have room for 5 more separate Mono or Stereo Inputs or I could use the other 3 open inputs on the 1st 3 channels. This little line mixer is a gem in terms of my options. It is quiet and can handle any signal. The inputs are selectable for +4dBu or when the switch is depressed (-10 dBV), the inputs are
more sensitive. The 7-digit level Left and Right meters are very accurate and the front Mute switch for each cahnnel is a bonus. It fits nicely in the rack under my main Workstation Top. It is very solidly made. And.... you can't beat the price. I am very pleased with my decison to purchase this RX1602.

So far, so good, and pretty good.

By Eric from Durham, NC
Music Background: Intermediate non-professional musician, working stage, studio, location technician.

I am using mine as a submixer for seven stereo synths/sampler/keyboards/sequencers. This is my first piece of Behringer gear and I was very circumspect about the purchase. Mine is very quiet so far and I am pleasantly surprised. Exactly the right feature set, the things I wanted, none of the the things I didn't. Simple and pure, in contrast to all the lovely toys it routes. I am not sure if I will track with this, but I really enjoy sequencing everything and listening to it all at once with this unit.

Three weeks with the unit so far. If it holds up and stays quiet that will make me happy. Otherwise, I wish Drawmer or Radial would do a 'Uli" and copy the hell out of this, because I would pay more for exactly this if that is what it took.

Great line mixer

By Sweetwater Customer

So I needed to mix 7 stereo keyboards. All keys have their own internal eq and efx. So I didn't expect much from the line mixer. This mixer worked just perfect. I ended up using all 8 channel stereo (16 mono channels) adding a pair of efx output to this unit. Noise level is very low. I have some noise, but it is from my studio's electric circuit. I'm very happy with this line mixer. Never before had a 1U unit doing as much as this mixer does. Hope it holds up.

Excellent for my need!!

By Elvyn R.
Music Background: Pianist, Keyboardist, Vocal Coach and Music Producer

I have a Rackmount Sound module and I use it both in my studio and live gig. Once I use all (8) of its audio outputs, it's mandatory for me to have a mixer to carry with the module. I use a Behringer 1832FX for this but for live performance thats a lot of hardware to carry on. So I left the 1832 in the studio and got this 1602 to put in a 4u rack case with my sound module. Perfect! Everything in one single unit! Thanks Behringer, thanks Sweetwater!

Great little line mixer

By Brian S. from Atlanta, GA

Great 19" rackmount line mixer, simple and good quality given its price point. I use this in a mobile PA rig which has basic signal routing and processing requirements. This is a simplistic utility device, it does its job well, which is mix & route signals. It has all the base features one would expect to utilize in a simple or advanced audio processing ecosystem. It's not a precision device like an Alan & Heath or an Audient, so set your expectations as such. The utility value it brings for the price is unmatched!

intermittent audio due to faulty switches

By John T. from USA
Music Background: Special Events Pianist since 1967

I've owned many small Behringer mixers and most eventually had switch issues (not pots) within a few years. The RX1602 was no exception and is no longer in my setup. I use the ART and ROLLS line mixers for their simplistic reliability for many audio tasks and even on bookings. Muting and routing switches are convenient and time saving of course but seem to be the Achilles heal of Behringer mixers.

Got a bad one…

By Adam from IN
Music Background: Composer, Producer, Artist

These are nice units and unbeatable for the price. Im still mixed feelings about Behringer but a lot of guys use them without problems or noise. All that was available for me though was a demo and one of the channels was dead and noisy. Had to return and wait for restock which isnt happening so fast since c19 hysteria. Will repurchase and have another go when the time is right.

Steller Audio

By DB from Tupelo MS Area
Music Background: A musician for over 45 years, personal studio user/owner for over 30. I free-lance reviewed gear for a well known elect music mag years ago.

Superb synth line mixer. I suppose you can get better sound buying a high end line mixer for $2-$3k but I can't believe anyone can touch the quality of this mixer for anything under $500, perhaps under $1k.

Yes, it's that good. Now there are no frills, just 8 stereo channels (16 inputs) no mic inputs, lighted mutes, no eq, very basic FX capability but just stellar quiet sound. Really what more do you need if you're just line mixing synths? Most any synth has more eq possibility's than a mixer anyway.

I replaced a very well known 12 input full featured mixer with this basically just to save five rack spaces. I had no idea the fidelity would be so much better! I had no idea my old E-MU MP7's drum sounds had so much low end. I used it's cool synth sounds only about 98% of the time. But the RX1602 has a very broad frequency response, nice tight lows, and crisp highs ... and most of all QUIET. The price makes it all the more amazing. I would consider it a bargain at twice the price.

If funds were not so limited right now, I'd likely never have considered Behringer. I won't make that assumption in the future, I assure you.

Five stars, no question.

Worth Every Dollar

By dave f. from Florida

I own four RX1602's. Two are in identically built racks - submixing my keys in a group and I'm sending my stereo sends to FOH and either a mono or stereo mix to my stage monitor(s). The other two are in racks I use when doing the one-man band thing and/or working in a duo where I'm running vocal mics and guitars through as well. In every circumstance - all the time - each one of these is CLEAN. I know there's a review to the contrary, all I can say is I've been making my living with these for years and I have nothing but positive things to say about the RX1602.

Not only is it one of the best rack-mount mixers out there it's also at the low end of the price spectrum too. The meters are far better than other more expensive options, so you know exactly how much headroom you have. I subscribe to doing my homework at HOME (dialing in mic pre's, EQ, effects, etc), so using a dedicated mixer with lots of knobs to re-invent the wheel every night or to give drunks another place to spill stuff on is just not my thing.

excellent unit

By Eric M.
Music Background: musician; songwriter

Bought this as a sub mixer for my keyboard rig so I could run my 5 synths in stereo out to our main mixer without hogging up 5 different channels on that. Works fantastic. No issues whatsoever. Another reviewer claims this unit is noisy, but this thing has been nothing but dead silent for me while it's in operation. Love it.

Great mixer

By Brian from Ohio

I purchased this to replace an older line mixer for my keyboards. The mixer outputs are clean. I turn the levels up to max with all channels open and there no noticeable noise. A small detail that is pretty cool about this is that you have left and right master volume controls in addition to individual balance controls per channel. The knobs have a nice response. Great mixer! As always my sales engineer Tom rocks! 2 days from purchase to doorstep!

Awesome

By Sweetwater Customer

I hear no noise coming from this mixer. I was hesitant to purchase based on a review that stated it was a "noise machine". wtf? I almost was considering spending way more than the cost... based on that review... It works, its silent.. Knobs feel ok, its a set and forget mixer for me, crank it on high but control the volume from my synths.. for the price, just awesome.

It is not "ultra low noise' - it is very high noise.

By Jon from Washington D.C.

Really disappointed in this. The features look great. The build quality and feel of the knobs and switches are great. However, when it comes to sound - this thing is a noise machine. I really wanted this work out but the noise floor and constant hissing sound on this are unacceptable. I A/B'd it with other devices and mixers and none generate the amount of hissing and noise like this does. Putting it back in the box and returning it to Sweetwater immediately. Unusable for anything applications that involve sound.
