Excellent performance

By Gustavo

I was browsing through Sweetwater and saw this got a negative review complaining about latency being the same as DVS. That is flat out incorrect, but you do need to actually configure your whole system correctly to get a low latency. So that user might've had huge latency caused by his setup and not the RUio16-D

Once I figured everything out, I got down to a 1.6 ms latency in my DAW with the RUio16-D as my audio interface via USB-C and using the Yamaha/Steinberg ASIO Driver. Sure to that you need to add the dante network latency of around 3ms going from my TIO1608-D (as per it's spec sheet), so in total my system is around 5ms or less of latency. You will also need to setup your DAW and use only plugins with a low latency (ie. only those that use 32 samples or less to keep that 1.6ms).

I was using Dante Virtual Sound card with the TIO1608-D for about a year and a half and it was barely usable. Perfectly fine for post-production, but not enough for live playing and monitoring. With DVS I only got as fast as 11ms RTL sacrificing a lot of things, if I opened up any program that used the network, it took a big hit to performance and I even had occasions where I heard audible artifacts caused by the unstable performance of DVS. So if your computer is not connected to the internet and you're not using anything else DVS is barely feasible otherwise it's just too much compromise and you're better off with something like the RUio16-D.

Also, it's great to have independent controls for the main outputs and headphones, routing everything can be very handy and the physical control means that if you get lost in the DAW at the very least you can turn it all down/up if needed changing the monitors independently from the headphones is truly a lifesaver.

A HUGE PROBLEM SOLVER!

By Brian L. from EDINA, MN

If you use Dante Virtual Soundcard and wish you didn't have to, this is the product for you. In theory, Dante Virtual Soundcard is an amazing software but in practice it's frequently unreliable (my setup frequently changes latency without notice, throwing audio and video out of sync). This device allows your computer USB port to interface with a Dante network using this perfectly reliable Yamaha hardware. All the youtube videos I'm seeing advertise this unit for use with the Steinberg audio software but in my setup I don't use Steinberg at all. After installing the driver you can use this interface with any DAW just like you'd use a Focusrite unit. Yes, it still has some amount of latency running through a DAW but that's not the fault of this unit. I wish it had more than 16 channels but beyond that I wouldn't change a thing about it.

RUio16-D VST Rack

By Jason H. from Mogadore, OH

The RUio16-D is built very well. Looks like it could withstand some road abuse. However, I was not impressed with the latency performance of the interface. I did some latency testing and compared to Dante Virtual Sound Card this is no quicker. They measured very similar in latency. However, the RUio16-D does over analog I/O an automatic bypass, redundant Dante networking and a durable metal chassis.
