The Hummingbird Deluxe — Acoustic Excellence Incarnate

The Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird Deluxe brings Gibson's legendary square-shoulder acoustic guitar into the 21st century with top-shelf construction, world-class electronics, and subtle modern enhancements. Its Sitka spruce top offers a clear tone and powerful projection that's embellished by the warm, round sound of its solid rosewood body. Experience sublime playability, thanks to this Hummingbird's comfortable round neck and rolled fingerboard edges. We know you'll love the Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird Deluxe. The legend continues.

Dressed up dreadnought style

The Gibson Hummingbird brought a subtle new body style and a bold new look to Gibson's dreadnought family. The Hummingbird was Gibson's first square-shoulder body shape. To emphasize the importance of the new model, Gibson outfitted the original Hummingbird with such eye-catching features as double parallelogram fingerboard inlays, multi-ply binding, and a pickguard engraved with a hummingbird and blossoms. These appointments are translated perfectly on today's Hummingbird Deluxe, along with tasteful modern style enhancements such as multicolored rope top and multi-ply back binding.

Quality construction

As discriminating guitarists immediately discovered, underneath the Hummingbird's flashy ornamentation is an amazing acoustic guitar. This incarnation of the Hummingbird brings you the same square shoulder design, with a solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides. These tonewoods come together to give the Hummingbird a sweet, warm tonality that sits well in countless musical situations. The guitarists at Sweetwater know how important playability is, and no Hummingbird goes out the door without the famed Plek-assisted setup, offering you great action, spot-on intonation, and a buzz-free instrument that is just about perfect.

Hand-scalloped top bracing delivers exceptional tone

Another feature of the Hummingbird Deluxe is Gibson's weight-relieved hand-scalloped top bracing, which provides strength while allowing the top to vibrate with a piston-like action, which is another one of Gibson's secrets to exceptional tone. For over 100 years, the Gibson artisans have known the truth that the top of an instrument is not just a vibrating wall. Gibson carefully scallops and arches each top brace to focus the sound to the center of the guitar top. This technique is one of the reasons why artists, sound engineers, and listeners have acclaimed the sound of a Gibson as among the world's finest.

Great-sounding LR Baggs VTC electronics

The Hummingbird Deluxe comes with LR Baggs's VTC acoustic pickup system. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control mounted just inside the soundhole, the VTC gives your Hummingbird Deluxe a pure-sounding amplification presence.

Nitrocellulose lacquer finish, for sound that improves with age

Gibson Montana uses nitrocellulose lacquer finish on all their acoustics for a reason. The lacquer finish is thinner than polyurethane, which allows the wood to vibrate more freely for better tone and projection. Also, since a lacquer finish is porous, it allows the wood to "breath." Thanks to the lacquer finish, as your Hummingbird Deluxe ages, its sound actually improves — just like the great violins of the 18th century (Stradivarius, Guarneri, etc.). The Hummingbird Deluxe is at once a collector's dream, a working musician's axe, and a treasured family heirloom.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship yields impeccable sound, looks, and playability

Gibson's reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time. After moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Nashville, Tennessee (where Gibson electric guitars continue to be made), Gibson finally settled their acoustic operation in Bozeman, Montana, where they continue to handcraft some of the finest guitars on the planet.

Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird Deluxe Features:

  • Classic acoustic-electric guitar built for today's player
  • Sitka spruce top for clear tone and powerful projection
  • Solid rosewood back and sides offer warm, round sound
  • Square-shoulder offers a very versatile tone
  • LR Baggs VTC pickup system transfers every nuance of your tone to your PA or amp
