Rotosound RS775LD Jazz 77 Monel Flatwound Bass Guitar Strings - .045-.130 Standard Long Scale 5-string Reviews
Flat-wound Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 have been highly praised by Bass Player Magazine as their favorite flat-wound. They are made of stainless steel undercovers and a Monel 400 top tape. Monel is around 65% pure nickel — five times that of stainless! Oasis, Steve Harris, Roger Waters, and many others have all favored this particular string over the years. The steel used to produce these strings is unique, combined with a highly secretive manufacturing process. If you're looking for bass stings with a smooth feel and excellent tone you can depend on, you need Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 flat-wound Monel strings.

great sounding flatwound strings
bought the same strings for my 4-string bass, and loved them so much I bought the same strings for my 5-string bass, and I'm not disappointed. THANKS
Excellent choice
Of all the strings available, these are my go-to. They are warm and bright at the same time. Rotosound Rocks!
Great Strings
A little more coarse to the touch than some other flatwounds. However, I like the feel and the sound. I find the quaility/type of tone.. even and good from string to string, which was a problem with the strings I replaced. The strings I replaced D, G didnt sound truly like a bass to me. These all the strings have same tonality. Required a little more effort to break-in and to adjust the tone on my bass to get the sound I wanted. BUT, I like these strings.
Rotosound 77s
I have been using these to craft my sound for quite some time. They produce a smooth warmth and long resonance. I recommend them highly.

What you gotta have
I've struggled with EQ, speaker configuration, everything imaginable to get the full-range sound for my bass. Then I heard that many studio musicians use flat wound. I bought my first set of flat wound and put them on before my next show, and GREATBOOGLYWOOGLY that's exactly the tone I've been trying to achieve! All in a set of ROTO SOUND bass strings! I highly recommend the ROTO SOUND FLAT WOUND series for those true professional sounds, studio or live.

awesome String with quick delivery
some of the best quality service ever
Best flats I've played
I gave these a shot to try and get a cleaner tone out of some low end pickups. They sound amazing. They have a deep rich tone like most flats, but these don't muddy up the mids. The sound still cuts through, just with less overall string noise. These are the first flats I've played that I would consider using for pop/rock music. If you're looking for versatile flat wound strings with great tone, these are probably what you're looking for.
Great strings
These strings work and sound great on my fretless . Haven't played a lot of flat wounds but I know I like them.
Great Strings!
I asked my engineer at Sweetwater for some flat wound strings for my son's new base (GWB35). Josh selected these and my son couldn't be happier. He's particularly happy with the clarity with regular playing and how they react to slapping. Excellent Choice!
Love these strings!
I prefer flatwounds over roundwounds because of the string noise as I move up and down the fingerboard (plus I started as an upright player!). I've tried various brands, and I think I've found my keeper. Most flatwounds I've tried are "sticky" and don't slide well, but these are great. They've got a nice mellow tone like most flats, and feel great!
Pro Flats
Love these - been using them for over 10 years. I play R&B, Funk, Blues, as well as straight ahead jazz gigs. These strings get better with age.
Great Flats!
I'm very impressed with these flats. I started over ten years ago with some (very) expensive flats from another manufacturer, and they served me well. Decided to try something different (less expensive) this time, spent less than half the money on the Jazz77 flats, and they sound and feel just as good as those other strings, plus, I saved enough money to pay for another set! (Not that I need to!) Very happy with these.
Extremely Smooth
Very smooth and crisp sounding strings. I guess it is would be expected... A good invest map as it sounds and octave lower but yet the crispness of the string is still there. A great all around jazz sound as well as the bass is in tune it"s ideal for any bass player imo.
Just The Sound I wanted
I have been playing electric bass since 1967 and switched over to round wound strings about a year after I started playing for that bright piano like sound. I decided to try the flat wounds again with this set, and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. I don't remember this great punchy sound, but it's surely there with these Rotosounds. We play a lot of acoustic music, and I love the way they blend in. I had been playing the upright bass for the last 10 years, but I really like the tone I am getting with these. A plus is how much easier they are on the fingers compared to the round wound strings. I think I will stick with these for a while.
Great Flatwound strings
I play a G&L L-2500 5 string, with through the body string routing. so I need really long strings these are the only Flatwounds I have found that will work, plus they have great sound, quite punchy. All most no music stores carry them, they have to order them so its good to find an online source.
I used the them for my Fender and Squire Jazz Basses
I bought these strings as a replacement for Thomas Infeld strings I previously was using.
The quality isn't bad either.
Roto Sound 77 for the jazz bass
I own three Fender Jazz Bass Guitars and an Ibanez Fretless Bass. The Roto Sounds sound better than the Thomas Infelds I previously used.
The action on the Fender jazz bass is rated a little higher than I'm used to but they are great for slap and funking sound, ie: James Brown, George Duke, and Marcus Miller sound.
I have used D'Addario XL on my Fender/Squire Jazz Bass. The Roto Sounds 77 for the jazz bass has a ring to it.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth.
Have a blessed day.
Bass Bag
Functions well.
Rotosound Flatwound Bass Strings
After years of round wound on a 5 string bass this is a welcome and smooth change. Easy on the fingers, eliminates most of the finger slide screech, and inspires a different playing attack. I am surprised with the unexpected and welcome punch of these strings. I am a convert.
Solid strings!
I love the feel and sound of these strings. They have a nice bite and growl to them. I am a little disappointed in the sustain, they don't have that "Sustain Forever" to them. But the aggressiveness is really nice. The tension is less on these which I like.
Fun To Play
Great speaking tone. Blends with the band well without overwelming;though strings were stiff slowing down my right hand attack (use fingers) but a little practice made perfect. Great clicking sound for solos. My Guitar is a Carvin LB75 Mahogany neck & body
Problem with E-string
Bought these a few years ago. I prefer flat wound and these seemed great. But I started using a pick recently to play some McCartney licks and noticed the E-string has a "raspy" internal buzz sound to it. It is not the frets or any other part of the bass. I am playing a Fender American Jazz Elite purchased new a few years back and tested all possible culprits. It is the string itself that has the rasp (buzz). All other strings sound great. No issues. I bought a 4-string pack of the Thomastik JF344 just to replace the E-string. It bothered me that much. Never had a bass string fail like that before.
Roto77's
Sound and sustain is great, but I would prefer smoother flatwounds
