Rupert Neve Designs RNDI-M Active Transformer Direct Interface
Rupert Neve Designs RNDI-M Active Transformer Direct Interface Reviews
You pour your heart and soul into your instrument. So, when it's time to record, why entrust it to anything other than a top-quality DI box? The Neve RNDI-M ticks all the right boxes. It handles input levels up to a massive +20.5dBu with a low-impedance, transformer-coupled output stage that makes it applicable for driving longer lines on a wide variety of sources, including guitars, basses, synths, drum machines, and more. Rupert Neve’s custom transformers are matched with Class A amps, resulting in sound reproduction below 5Hz and above 90kHz, with a smooth and natural quality throughout. The RNDI-M's incredibly durable steel chassis is ready to handle any studio or stage gig. Finally, you'll benefit from an assortment of other handy features, such as ground lift, a 1/4-inch Thru output, and a blue LED light indicating +48V phantom power.
This is the stuff
Great DI, I have the stereo one as well, and I find that these DI's are built so well and never have to worry about being careful when handling them. Love how FOH always tells me my gain comes in nice and strong when using the RNDI. Never going to use another DI box, these are the best.
Great Sounding DI
This is a really great sounding, no frills DI. A studio where I sometimes record has the full featured Neve RNDI and I love the sound of my Basses there so I picked this up to use at home. I compared the sound quality between the two and I can't detect any difference at all. I've used several high end DIs including the Avalon and the Sushi Box but I can honestly say I prefer the sound of this little baby. The low end is very clear, full and warm but still very articulate. As always, I love working with Mike and everyone at Sweetwater. Get this, there's no way you'll be disappointed!
huge tone upgrade
I was plugging 1/4 inch into my audio interface from my guitar before buying this DI. It was a massive upgrade of my tone for guitar and bass. Everything sounded warmer and more full. No hum/buzz from the pickups when running amp plugins in Logic. I don't tend to leave reviews but I'm very happy with this product. If this sits on your desk I'd suggest an angled 1/4" into the input of the DI
NEVE RNDI-M
Tone is critical for me, if the tone is not there, then very little else matters. I'm very happy recording my guitar (semi-hollow body electric similar to a 335) through the Neve RNDI-M, so much so that I just ordered the RNDI to add my amplifier's speaker signal to what's being recorded.
Access to Neve tech shouldn't be this inexpensive.
Seriously. You need to understand that Rupert Neve - the genius behind the very top recording consoles and audio processors in the world, used at the very best recording studios in the world, on many of your favorite (old school) recordings - wouldn't dare make a "semi-pro" piece of gear, let alone a "consumer-grade" product with substandard audio specs. It's all about the audio with Neve. Instead of thinking about "how will my signal sound at the board?", think, "how would I WANT my guitar/bass to sound at the board?". That's what the RNDI's will give you. A better version of your instrument sound than you are probably used to hearing. Yep, I'm biased. Enjoy.
Amazing Purchase!
Since purchasing, I've used this DI on both acoustic and bass, and it has drastically improved my tone on both. It gives you high end clarity you can't find with lower level DI boxes. Highly Recommend.
Sounds great for home recording
I only record at home. I'm using this DI box to record guitar DI as well as send to a tube amp to capture DIs of that through a load box. It sounds much better than going straight into my focusrite scarlett 2i2 with 1/4 inch cable. Better low and high end content from what I can hear. Tip for most DI boxes: if you are using the through output with passive pickups you will have some signal loss so add a pedal that has a buffer between your guitar and the DI input to make sure you're getting a quality signal from all outputs.
The best I've heard my bass sound
I've used an RNDI for an ampless stage; it's the best sound I've gotten doing direct. I only had two slight quibbles with it: it takes up a relatively large amount of board space, and the angled "wings" make using some right-angle patch cables a little tricky. I never used the speaker-level switch, only instrument.
When the RNDI-M was announced, I thought I could solve the space and right-angle issues. Sweetwater delivered it quickly. I'm glad to say it fits the bill! I can detect no sound difference between this and its larger sibling.
