One amazing guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on September 12, 2023

Excellent for metal and rock and clean. Tone is too good. Versatile. My favorite guitar. Workmanship is impeccable.

Took a Few Days To Grow On me But Now I Can't Put it Down

By Brian Cary from Houston, TX on July 19, 2023 Music Background: Weekend warrior

I am really digging the Fishman Fluence pickups and the Edge Low Pro trem. After I set it up it plays like a dream. Nice low action. The pickups will do anything from SRV style to heavy metal with drop D tuning and nail it. Very nice distortion without unwanted noise. Same for the clean sounds. The active/passive mode is cool but kind of subtle. Very nice rig for the price. I got mine on reverb with the case. Super happy with this guitar.

Great Axe!

By Kevin Beckovich from Pittsburgh, PA on February 7, 2022

After taking a 15-year break from playing guitar, I purchased an Ibanez J Custom RG8570Z - Chrysocolla. Love that guitar! I saw the Frozen Ocean Prestige and had to have it. I want to thank Geoff Allen my sales engineer for taking care of me and getting this guitar in my hands. Geoff is a great sales engineer and a great guy in general. Love the look of this guitar, and the Fishman pickups. This Prestige has become my main guitar.

One of the best guitars I've ever played/ owned! You get what you pay for!

By Tyler Moe from OAKDALE, MN on November 23, 2021 Music Background: Metal & Rock

I ordered this guitar as my birthday present 4 months ago and waited patiently to get here (backordered). When it did, I let it sit inside the house for a good day and half (as directed) since I live in MN. After that, I opened it up and got lost in staring at the thing (for over a half hour). I sat down, plugged it in and I couldn't believe at this point. I mean, between the color, paintjob, craftsmanship and the weight. Nothing but genuine time and care invested in such a build. Having said that, the feel and sound of this guitar, are also a work of wonders. The Fishman pickups give an huge amount of tone options to work with (cleans are especially good). This guitar is fantastic in every way and I'm proud to own it. I've had the guitar for about 5 days now and have played a handful of hours so far. It's definitely my new favorite of 2 guitars I primarily play (my other guitar is a PRS CE24, same price). You always get what you pay for in this world, which is why these guitars not only look, but feel better then anything else for the price ranges. I even added a plecking job just to make sure and man, let me tell you! Also a big thank you to James Wroblewski and the team for making it happen! I added a video of me playing it for a bit! Highly recommend this guitar to anyone who's serious about guitar and quality. You will NOT be disappointed! Thanks Ibanez and Team J Craft, beautiful build!

Amazing Guitar!

By Mel from Savannah, Georgia on January 16, 2021 Music Background: 30 year rocker. Play guitar, Keyboard, and record my own songs with a poor man home recording studio.

This is one of the most amazing guitars I have ever played in my entire life. I have been playing over 30 years and have never heard of a guitar that can give you classical and newer tones in the same pickups thru the flick of a switch.
The intonation is from another planet, the neck is so smooth and roomy I just glide thru lead riffs with ease and play chords like a champion. This guitar stays in tune when I do dive bombs, shred, and chug. It makes my older guitar processor sound like a million bucks. On top of everything I just said, this guitar has an amazing appearance that has to be seen in person under lights. Heck, when I first opened the guitar case, I was scared to touch it because it looked so good. The guitar case that came with it is also first class. I could go on but recommend you get one yourself and write your review because I know I have not given this amazing guitar justice. Check me out playing this guitar live and thru my recording studio with the added link below. Enjoy! Mel.

Prestige

By Sweetwater Customer on October 18, 2020

I had started looking at this particular guitar way back in March, and since then it has always been there in the back of my mind. I've been playing guitar for quite some many years now at this point, and have owned several high end guitars including Gibson's, Fender's, Martin's, and so fourth. I love my les pauls, I considered myself a les paul guy. Until now. The Ibanez RG5120M is hands down the nicest guitar I've ever owned. The attention to detail from the fretting, neck, finish, hardware: this thing has it all in one package. You can get great tonal options from the voicing switch. The pickups are very clear but still present a lot of gain. I never liked active pickups until now. You can play virtually anything from blues to shredding metal on this thing and it does it all well. If you are on the fence about purchasing this beast, please take the jump as I have. You will not regret it. Definitely a life long keeper.

Great Guitar

By D Unit from Bel Air on January 25, 2020 Music Background: Guitar Hobbyist, Cover Bands, Metal

Great build and awesome pickups for metal. Wow. Jamming riffs off of Metallica's Justice album sound amazing with this guitar.

I also own the Ibanez Prestige RG with the Edge Fusion pickups. Edge Fusions are great and especially good for leads, but if you're more into metal riffing, pick up this guitar.

Pictures do not do it justice. I wish the hardwood floors in my house looked as good as the back of this guitar.

If you are not familiar with the Ibanez Wizard necks, the string spacing is a bit wider and the neck is thinner. Personally, I find I am able to play solos better with Ibanez Prestige guitars.

Great as Hell

By BMR on August 11, 2019 Music Background: Session player for about 15 years

I used ibanez prestige guitars for about 10 yrs and then i sold all my ibanez gtrs and bought some fender , prs and Esp's .after another 5 years i missed the incredible playability and craftmanship quality of ibanez. I get this one. Put 20 hours to find a problem or weakness. Nothing found in sound, finish or anything like this. Fishman voicing switch is just like you have two PU's in one . The modern fishman voice is giant and big like my emg 57 66 set but there is no massive hum or lack of dynamic. Switch the toggle and suddenly you feel like play on a duncan pickup. The electronic material is just unbelievably good and high quality. The fretboard needs no point which we already know ibanez is the master of making best fretboard and neck.the frozen ocean blue is so much better than the pics or youtube videos.but one thing that you should find out with this guitar is ; for a great sustain you dont need a neck through guitar. This bolt -on has an incredible endless sustain that u always need to control.so maybe this neck theough thing with modern PU's is just a myth which needs to be forgotten. Quality of floyd rose and tuning stability is just comparable with j custom series. Buy this one .there will be no regret.

Excellent

By Tony Z. from DFW on April 5, 2019 Music Background: Intermediate - 8 years

Put about 15 hours on it so far. Sweetwater plek'd it before sending it out. Very low action on stainless steel frets. Fishman pickups are over-top-top good on this guitar. The color is outrageous. The pictures do not show the wild patterns that look different from every angle. 5 piece neck with Birdseye Maple, Floyd Rose, Lo-Pro Edge bridge, MIJ Prestige. I like this a lot and it will most likely become one of the two or three most played.

One Beautiful Guitar!

By DAlexander on September 15, 2023

I saw this guitar on the site back in December of 2022. Having already owned a Prestige Model RG Ibanez, I knew the build quality would be first rate. After obsessing about it for a few days, I ordered one. I wasn't disappointed when I opened the box. The finish is flawless. The neck is amazing. Being able to change the tone with the flip of a switch lends incredible versatility to this machine. The action is low and fast. Palm muting is effortless with the Lo-Pro Edge tremolo. This guitar is well worth the price. Of the 10 guitars I own, this one is hands down my favorite electric.

But it has an Achilles Heel. This guitar has active pickups that are powered by a 9-volt battery housed in a cavity on the back. After playing it for about 7 months, I plugged it up one morning and there was no output. I switched the wireless setup I was using to my Telecaster and the wireless worked fine. I replaced the battery with a new one, and still no output. I called the Sweetwater Guitar Shop and explained the problem. They recommended I find a qualified tech in my area to do the repairs and offered to cover the cost. Since there aren't any repair shops in my area, I wound up sending the guitar back to Sweetwater in Fort Wayne Indianna. Since it had been more than 6 months since the purchase, I had to pay the shipping cost back to Fort Wayne. After diagnosing the problem, the tech at Sweetwater determined that the wires to the battery holder had broken loose. At that point I decided to have a rechargeable Fishman Fluence Strat Battery pack installed to prevent this problem in the future. If you buy this guitar, have the Strat Battery pack installed. The price of the battery pack is $ plus the labor to install it. In my case, Sweetwater covered the labor cost since the guitar was still under the 2-year warranty. The tech also reconnected the wires to the battery holder so I could use it if I wanted to. Sweetwater shipped the guitar back to me and covered the return freight cost.

The problem I had with this guitar is no reflection on Sweetwater! I have purchased many guitars and accessories from Sweetwater and have always received exemplary service from them. This issue is firmly with Ibanez. I would have given it 5 stars if Ibanez had used the rechargeable battery when they built the guitar.

Knowing what I do now, I would definitely buy this guitar again. It is a wonderful instrument, and I will probably hand it down to my son and eventually to my grandson. It's that good.

Not a $2000 guitar.

By Sweetwater Customer on January 21, 2022

I purchased this recently because it looks great. And I was wanting a more modern Ibanez. I had nothing but issues with this guitar. It would not stay in tune. I would unlock the nut and retune and it would take forever to get up to pitch. Like twenty minutes of tuning all of the strings up to pitch over and over. This kills all joy for an instrument. Maybe I got a dud? Maybe it doesn't like rooms that are 70 degrees all the time? I don't know. I kept it in the case.

Now the feel of the guitar is pretty good however the neck feels like balsawood or something. It's almost too smooth. Fuzzy ya know? It honestly makes it feel cheap instead of premium.

Now the pickups is another deal. They suck batteries fast. I had to change the battery it came with two days of playing later. Granted, I played a lot! I put another battery in and again it lasted a couple of days. Kind of pricey after awhile just to get it to work.
The sound of the pickups are very uninspiring. Flat, unmusical and I really do not see what the fuss is about. I play a lot of different styles and put them through the ringer. However, when it came to my style, the most important to you as a player, they didn't sing to me.

I honestly think this guitar should be $1,000 less. That's no fault of Sweetwater. It's just an underwhelming "premium" guitar.

Thank you to the great sales staff for helping make it right.
This guitar may be for you, but it was overwhelmingly not for me and full of frustration.
