Makes a difference

By Michael Wildermuth from OH on June 1, 2023

I was trying to figure out how to make up for deficiencies in my recording environment. This was a solution that made a positive difference without changing the room and without spending too much. I'm quite satisfied.

Fantastic vocal isolation!

By Sweetwater Customer on February 21, 2022

This thing is great! My room was pretty dead already, but step up to a mic in the RF SPACE and hear what "ultra-dead" sounds like! Very pleased with this purchase.

Acoustical Control at it's finest

By Paris B on June 2, 2021

sE Electronics knows what they were doing with this model. I noticed considerably better results from the very first minute of use. Nice tight, quieter overall sound from the mic recording. Less post clean up. Want professional results? Use the tools of the pros. This is one of them.

You Should Have One

By Brian Varhelyi from Burlington, NJ on May 26, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician

I do a lot of recording from my home studio for various projects. I mainly record guitar tracks and go direct with a Fractal Audio AxeFx. But there are times when I need to use a mic (acoustic guitars, vocals etc). I've been avoiding using a mic because I'd get too many room reflections essentially ruining the recording. With the RF Space I can get the professional results I need.

Worth Every Penny

By John Beverly Jones from Los Angeles, CA on September 15, 2019

I'm an OLD recording engineer and I've struggled with vocals that have been recorded in a bouncy room. You'll never get that wrapper off. This little solution gives you a perfect, portable vocal booth... Beautifully constructed and totally efficient. I was amazed how it delivered. Highly recommend.

What a Fantastic Portable Voice Booth!!!

By Jim Hawkins from Carlsbad, CA on February 5, 2019 Music Background: Advanced Beginner guitar player with a great home recording studio

I received this a few weeks ago, so naturally, the price just dropped... If you are thinking about buying this, now is the time to do it while the price is low.
I have a small home recording studio (240 square feet) with no acoustic treatment at all--in fact, it has 14-foot high ceilings, so recording voices is a big problem from all the reflected ambient noise.
I talked to my Sales Engineer, Ben Robinson, and explained the problem to him.
He suggested I get the sE Electronics Space Reflexion Shield system, and it works wonders.
I also purchased the RF Space Studio kit bundle...
All together, this is like having a private voice recording studio in your recording environment.
I use a Luten Atlantis Condenser microphone (next best thing to a Neumann U87) and this acoustic control environment allows you to record without worrying about any reflected ambient noise.
It is great! Now, if you guys will just give me a... credit for dropping the price after I bought it, I would really be happy.
Cheers.

A great start to getting it right

By Miguel Noyola from Dallas, Tx on October 30, 2018 Music Background: Producer Mix Engineer

Great product. If your limited in a space this is a great addition when your starting out with nothing. I"d personally recommend adding a Gik bass trap behind the unit to help with what"s happening behind it. This definitely accounts for a good portion of the sound.

sE Electronics Space filter

By David P. from Tyler, TX on November 30, 2017

I was slow to pull the trigger on this purchase but I'm super happy that I did now. The Space filter really works great at removing some the low end mud and immediate slapback around the untreated rooms of my home. It's portable, versatile and alot of fun to experiment with. For an even drier sound It works great to set it up in a clothes closet for all the additional absorption. I think it's a real handy tool that anyone can find a lot of creative uses for. I recommend this to anyone that enjoys recording.

Must-Have For Home Recording

By AS on May 24, 2017

I've had the SE SPACE for a year and a half now, and am very glad I got it. For any sort of recording at home, this gives you a much drier sound instantly. When I had the time, I would also hang all the blankets I could find behind and above the performer (often myself), and it's possible to get even better results. For anyone recording audio at home, or in an untreated space, this is basically a must-have if you want the most professional result possible. Before investing more $$ in a new microphone, get the SE SPACE!

A must-have tool!

By Mike Halloran from Sunnyvale, CA on May 2, 2017 Music Background: Working industry professional

I already own a Reflexion Filter PRO but had need of a second unit. I decided to give the sE Electronics SPACE a try.

Wow! Everything I liked about the PRO but less — in the best way. Less frequency anomalies, less outside noise, less coloration (ok, the PRO imparts very little but...)

My rooms would need 5 figures worth of treatment (each!) to achieve what this bad boy does for under $300.

These allow me to use my ribbon mics in places where that would ordinarily be unthinkable. The flat surfaces do not induce comb filtering artifacts that are unavoidable in the inexpensive, corrugated foam types.

sE Electronic SPACE - Rocks!!!!

By Randy Klein from New York City on February 28, 2017 Music Background: Experienced Composer/Pianist/Producer

My home studio windows face a noisy street. Vocals have always been a problem to record and almost impossible. Thank you Stewart Nevin for recommending the sE Electronic Space. The unit blocks out 90% of the noise. I was blown away by how much ambient noise was reduced. Quite impressive!!!! Easy to use and install!!!! ...Randy Klein

This thing is the bomb

By buzzard from Salt Lake City on December 5, 2016

If your room isn’t the greatest, before spending money on the latest la-dee-da microphone you should seriously consider getting one of these. Simple, built well but fairly light weight… it goes a long way toward taking the room out of the equation. My own converted 12’x14’ basement studio with carpet and old wood paneling has a kind of stuffed-head wooly midrange muck in the vocals. This completely fixes it.

sE Electronics SPACE

By Dennis Kim from Hawaii on August 4, 2016 Music Background: Musician

Excellent! Does exactly what it's advertised to do ... it took the ambience out of vocals in an untreated room ... just made sure the open side faced off center from opposite corner. Reflections behind the SPACE which was two feet off center from an untreated corner were non existent. It is surprisingly lightweight, and the mounting hardware is robust and centers the weight over the mic stand so very stable. :-)

Outstanding!

By Jeanmark Rodriguez from Puerto Rico on May 10, 2016 Music Background: Recording and mixing engineer

I would recommend the SE Space to anybody who is looking to get that pro studio sound! It's 10 times better than the cheap foam reflection filter I used to have. I used to get some high frequency sizzles when I recorded with the foam filter but with the Space there are no sizzles at all, only the ones the mic makes Lol! The SE Space and a good condenser and your good to go!

The Missing Link for Pro Vocals

By Mark Lewandowski from Prospect Heights, IL on December 21, 2015 Music Background: Electronic Musician, Vocalist, Mixing Engineer

All too often people neglect the acoustic environment they are recording in. This product significantly reduces comb filtering and room reflections from behind and the sides. Additionally, it will attenuate the vocalist's voice before it starts hitting the walls in the room. I've recorded plenty of vocals in the past, and was never satisfied with results. Once I got to the mixing stage I had to spend tons of time trying to fix comb filtering and bad room sound. We had used a makeshift vocal booth with a cheap knock-off filter, and all it did was roll off some high-end reflections. A lot of the sound was still bouncing around in the booth. This reflexion filter does an incredible job of cleaning up your sound, and gets you much closer to that Pro sound. The acoustic environment is just as important as the mic, preamp, and talent. Don't skimp on it, or your vocals will end up sticking out like a sore thumb. It filters the entire frequency range, not just the highs. Don't be intimidated by the quality and price, sE Electronics spent a huge amount of time developing this product, and you can hear the difference.

It really works!

By Sweetwater Customer on November 3, 2015 Music Background: Home studio, vocal, sax, Leslie recording

I needed something for a ribbon mic and decided to try this. I wasn't really expecting it to work all that well. I was wrong---it really does work! Not quite an isolation booth, but much closer to that then I ever expected.

This does a great job of focusing the sound

By Meghan Gohil from Hollywood on August 26, 2015 Music Background: Producer / Engineer

I didn't know what to expect. I ordered this based on reviews I had read online and some YouTube clips that I saw. I use this with a ribbon mic (AEA 92), and this really helps bring the sounds into focus.

It works great on both guitars and vocals. For guitars, I am mixing up some small vintage amps (1946 era).

Amazed

By Luis from Las Vegas on August 18, 2015 Music Background: Music Producer, Rapper

So I was first sceptical about getting this and wen through countless YouTube reviews and couldn't tell the difference (mind you my room is not acoustically treated) and to record some lyrics without it and then with it I found can definitely hear a huge difference in my record I highly recommend getting this if your room ain't treated and need that acoustic vocals my next step is to get my room treated but with this I won't have to stall on recording any vocals

The Best!

By Malki Means King from Berkeley, CA on May 29, 2015 Music Background: Everything

I have a project studio and I had a cheaper "Mic Shield" before this. I recently upgraded my studio and bought this filter. I can tell the difference immediately. Sounds like a booth where I record now. It's not even funny how much better it sounds. Incredible!!!!!!! I'm literally blown away. Went from "Hollow" sounding vocals, to full sounding vocals with almost no extra background noise!!!! This "Space" Reflexion Filter is the best!

A Definite Upgrade!

By Mike.C from Fort Walton Beach, FL on August 20, 2014 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Producer, Artist, D.J

I was previously using an Aurelex Mudguard and while it did its job the build quality and overall "deadening effect" was horrible. I went ahead and took a leap of faith and got this and i must say what an upgrade. I don't usually write reviews but i love this thing it's built nice and sturdy looks very high quality instead of glued down foam like other products this stuff is top notch ,thick, and nicely made. I did a few tests and used this in an untreated room with one of my Modded Michael Joly Mic 's and was impressed by the nice upfront sound and clarity i got back using this. Rappers and singers alike that have come into my studio love how this thing looks. needless to say i sold my old mudguard on ebay the next day. And big thanks to my Sweetwater rep Ed Needler.

Serious reduction of resonant buzz

By Mike O'Donnell from Colorado Springs, CO on February 26, 2024 Music Background: viola in orchestras and quartets, singing tenor in many different ensembles

I record solo singing in a bedroom with horrid acoustics, particularly a strong high-pitched resonant buzz. First experiments with the SPACE filter showed a great improvement (hear here if you like: https://archive.org/details/youth-is-wasted-on-the-young).

I was surprised that it mounted stably on a cheap tripod mic stand with a flimsy boom. I set the boom vertical and strapped it to the lower pole. A remount using the K&M 18817 Universal Holder on a Liquid Stands Portable Home Recording Studio Workstation (keyboard stand---oops I had to come back for the K&M 18814 Adapter) is totally solid and easier to pull in and out of the closet.

I lucked out and ordered it during a markdown. It's a bit pricey at the normal $. At that price, I might have tried a different choice. Unfortunately, choosing such a filter is a shot in the dark. There are reviews, but no clear objective evaluations to compare.

Home Studio Essential

By Charlie B. from NC on May 26, 2018 Music Background: Radio, VO, FOH, Studio tracking & mixing

Virtually all home studios struggle with acoustic control. Choosing the 'right' solutions amongst the myriad of product offerings is daunting. A choice candidate for vocalists is sE Electronics SPACE. The multi-layered design beats acoustic foam only offerings hand down. SPACE provides noticeable reduction of flutter echo and slapback leveling out room acoustics. The half-shell design lowers off-mic pickup, further isolating the mic from an imperfect room. It serves as a worthy broad spectrum problem solver. As other reviews note SPACE is heavy. It's best used with a sturdy heavy-duty mic stand. Tripod stands work better than typical round base models. While no one product will solve all acoustic anomalies, SPACE is one viable asset in the ongoing quest towards cleaning up your room.

Works as it should

By Ulysses on March 23, 2018

This has been a great addition to my studio. Vocals really shine and are crisp and full bodied, easier and quicker to sit that vocal in your mix. Does a good job of isolating the mic from wayward room reflections and odd frequency dips and peaks. Make sure you get a well balanced mic stand with wide legs or it will be a little wobbly and top heavy. I almost had it tip over with the smaller mic stand I initially put it on with a round metal base. Product itself works great.

It makes a difference!

By Rojo Studios on May 2, 2017

We were struggling with unwanted slap from an untreated wall. We added the Reflexion Filter and noticed an immediate difference. Great product.

Excellent.

By Ron Bracale from Ohio, USA on September 28, 2016 Music Background: Shakuhachi Zen Flute and recording artist.

The improvement is sound was great. It provides for a very clean recording space. The only down side is it is heavy and thus I had to secure my mic stand to a keyboard stand. I am not sure I would trust the two little 'sand' bags to provide balance. I am very happy to have it and the improvement in recording far outweighs any need to stabalize the mic stand.

Pleased

By Tom Kraemer from Roanoke, VA on July 30, 2017

The new mounting bracket is the star of the show here as it's mountable on just about any stand out there. With that said, I strongly recommend contacting a Sweetwater associate for mic stand recommendations if you're unsure. If your stand doesn't have a solid base, your experience with the space will be terrible.

Overall SPACE made a noticeable difference in my voice over recordings and I'm pleased with it.

Works as advertised

By Mark Grey from Milford, CT on May 9, 2016

I've found a significant improvement in isolation using this isolation panel and would recommend it to anyone recording vocals in an untreated/poorly treated room.

Be sure to pair with a microphone with the correct polar pattern for best results!

Pretty well made.

By Sweetwater Customer on December 4, 2015

I kind of expected more engineering involved with this product. However, it is well made.

not what I need, but may be for others

By Marco from Tampa, fl on September 2, 2014 Music Background: Dj, Recording and mixing engineer, writer

I have a very small vocal booth that is treated with foam which brings down all the airy roomy noise and mid to high frequency annoyances. I have also treated it to keep outside noise where it belongs. The only issue I have is because size and shape i tend to have muddy low boomy vocals with certain voices. This was my sole reason for purchasing the Se Space, and I was hesitant because I doubted it could touch the lower frequencies. In my case, I was correct. Doing blind a/b tests on identical vocals laid down with exact same mic and positioning in same session, the vocals without this product actually sounded better. looking with frequency analyzers I found that the 125hz to 500 were actually increased with the Se Space which confirmed my blind ear comparisons. It did smooth out the overall shape, but it also raised the low end slightly. The difference was so small and negligible for my treated space that I am returning the unit. For an untreated room or for tracking in the control room, it may be a different story but I did not test for that. I've purchased bass traps from Gik, and will be finishing my acoustic treatment for half the cost of this product. I also recommend mattress foam and/or cheap memory foam for high end treatment if you just want dry clean recording. It is just as effective at deadening a space as the products sold, and actually a/bs equivalent to this product. Just don't expect foam to get rid of low end modal issues, and don't go for this to clean up mud in a treated room. Buy a proper panel bass trap or make one.

Really Disappointed in this Item!!

By Sweetwater Customer on May 15, 2020

For the price, I was expecting to at least see a slight difference in my recording, but there is none at all. It's basically a huge... paperweight.
It's such a shame, because I was really excited for this product and was very hopeful it would help eliminate background noise.

It did not eliminate any noise. Way overpriced, bad product. Dont buy- it's totally not worth it!
