Great Alternative to the RE20

By Matthew P. from North Carolina, USA
Music Background: Voiceover and podcaster

Pros: The RE320 has a great sound for voiceover and broadcasting/podcasting work. It is less expensive than the RE20 while providing the quality you get from Electro-Voice.

Cons: Though it sounds great, it is not the RE20 and if you want the absolute best experience, the RE20 and RE27 are the way to go.

This may be a pro or a con, depending on your application, but I found the RE320 is louder than the RE20. If you run it through a preamp, such as the Cloudlifter, you may find it gives out a very loud signal. I am able to use with my interface (Apollo Twin X) without a preamp and without needing to max out my interface's gain.

Overall a very solid vocal mic.

Great Broadcast Microphone

By James from Massachusetts

I was putting together a kit when I bought the RodeCaster Pro. This is the microphone I chose because the Rode microphone was sold out. No regrets. This is an awesome microphone. My voice sounds like a radio announcer/DJ. Of course, this has something to do with the RodeCaster Pro, also. No pop-filter required. It is sensitive and I will probably buy a shock mount. I use it for both talking and singing. Not certain if it is the best for singing but talking is awesome. I am not a microphone or sound pro by any stretch of the imagination. My stand is a Gator Frameworks boom which supports it quite nicely. This microphone is industrial strength and is not one that you would hold while singing or talking. It is quite hefty. I keep it with my podcasting kit. Sorry for saying microphone so many times but this is a RE320 ElectroVoice microphone!!

Amazing Build, Quality, and Look

By Steven W. from TX

The RE320 has been one of the best investments for my streaming setup. It handles everything I can throw at it without the price tag of the SM7B. From the amazing sound and build quality to the look, it has not disappointed one bit. I would recommend this microphone to anyone!

Mic is perfect for home studio

By Kris from North Webster, In

I purchased this microphone recently for a radio home studio build. This microphone has a great sound and has been perfect. I use it to record 5 daily radio shows a day, and you can not tell on air that it is not live from the radio station studio. I could not as for a better mic sound. It's great and I highly recommend it!

Too Bright for me

By Daniel from Yuma, AZ

For podcasting, Skype, and other conference call type services, I enjoyed the RE-20 over the 320. I used the Neve Rupert Neve Designs Portico II Channel Microphone Preamp with both. The 320 was too bright for my taste. My star rating of two is based on my subjective experience with my voice and application. I found them both well constructed. I dropped out of the whole podcasting hobby when my health deteriorated. Currently, I'm in remission so I may re-enter my hobby with a more viable purpose. Since COVID, more TeleMed medical appointments use Zoom, so the justification for quality is more valid. This time around, I will likely go with the Sheffield Channel that superseded the Portico II. I recently listened to a vocal demo with the RE-320 combined with the Sheffield Channel, and it sounded terrific. Perhaps the Sheffield Channel enhances depth and tone to the RE-320. With this in mind, it's a tough call.

Clear winner!

By Jeremy from Kenosha, WI
Music Background: Musician, Podcaster, Streamer

I'll start by saying I bought mine on amazon when it was on sale. Man I love it! I have plenty of other mics, but I feel this is the sweet spot. Especially for streaming and podcasting. You won't be disappointed!

This is NOT a cheaper RE20, its a totally different microphone.

By Sweetwater Customer

So I own both this and the RE20. I do a lot of recording, and this mic tends to beat the RE20 on a lot of the sources I try it on. They're both excellent microphones, but the RE20 has a much more limited use case. Great on outside kick, great on spoken voice, and great on bass amps. But that's about it. The RE320 has been surprisingly great on things like shakers, background vocals, guitar amps, inside kick, and is still an excellent choice for spoken word, outside kick and bass amps. While I think the RE20 is great at what it gets right, I think this mic is the better value.

Great mic

By Michael B. from Mount Vernon, WA
Music Background: Musician, podcaster and music producer

This microphone has many uses and is great for all of those uses. I use it for speaking with voiceover and podcasting on my deep voice. I also use it to record bass guitar and it has performed amazingly. I haven"t had an opportunity yet but it will be great on kick drums too. This mic is one to get for any of these uses. It is not an all around mic, but is not a unitasker either. It is very gain hungry so make sure you are running it through a good preamp. This is a very heavy mic so if you are putting it on a desk boom you need a higher end one like the Rode PSA1. I am currently using a mic stand with an On-Stage Stands MSA7500CB Posi-Lok Combo Boom Arm to set it up and that works decently.

Buy one now!!!!

By Brian M. from Memphis TN
Music Background: Musician & recording engineer

I got the RE320 specifically to mic kicks, but it also gets used with heavy vocals where a dynamic mic is more appropriate & on bass cabs as well. This is a no brainer every studio should have at least a couple of these.

Get An RE-20

By Aaron from CA

RE-20 surpassed RE-320 to my ears on all sources. RE-320 is very nice, however, and surpassed many other mics on the shootout to my ears. RE-320 also looks great. Low cut setting on RE-320 sounded similar to RE-20, but RE-20 sounded better. RE-320 sounds nice as a kick drum mic to save the $100 on the RE-20, but RE-20 sounds better on kick drum as well. RE-20 is a personal mic of choice on many sources and an essential mic to have in the mic locker in my opinion. Also, the RE-20 is currently made In The U.S.A. and the RE-320 is currently made In China.

A New Classic

By Jerry M. from Anaheim CA
Music Background: Songwriter, Producer, Engineer, Multi-Instrumentalist

I came across this mic randomly, and started doing some research knowing what a classic mic the RE20 is. Think of this mic as a more of a modern take on the classic, intended more for musicians than broadcasters, although It does excel at voice over and broadcast work as well.

I found lots of positive reviews online, and there are some really good Youtube videos that show how good it really sounds. It has a warm and natural sound combined with the the detail of a condenser, but without siblance or harshness. I was sold, and after using it I have to say that this is probably my favorite mic right now, and I do have some nice ones in the collection, so that is saying a lot. It really is that good. It sounds fantastic on pretty much anything you can throw at it and it is also very affordable for a mic of this caliber.

Great job EV, I believe we have a winner!

Excellent Mic for Horns

By John T. from United States
Music Background: Sound Engineer and Trumpet Player

This is a great microphone for horns! I have a band with a 6 piece horn section and use this on the trumpets, trombone, and all 3 saxes (bari, alto, tenor). I went through a mic shootout with $400 and under microphones looking for a great mic to capture the tone of horns which I believe is very hard to do, to gather the nuance and detail that a horn has. Well let me say in terms of durability, feedback rejection, and pure sound quality you cannot go wrong with this microphone for Horns!!! If you want to see a horn player smile, and actually enjoy performing, put this mic on them! They will smile from ear to ear to know you took care in selecting a microphone that wasn't just a 57.

Wow! What a Great Mic!

By Benjamin J. from Somewhere, VA
Music Background: Semi Pro Musician, Songwriter, Guitarist, Recording Geek

I bought the RE320 not really knowing what to expect.. i had traded my beloved RE20 for my friends VOX AC30 and looked to replace my favorite mic.. I saw a comparison video on youtube of a guy comparing the EV20 to the EV320 and thought i'd take a chance on this mic.. Wow! What a Great Mic! This exceeded my expectations and in my opinion is a better looking and warmer mic than the EV20. Using the RE320 for my vocals and acoustic guitars brings more warmth and less tin.

Just like the classic

By Stan C. from NIAGARA FALLS
Music Background: Chopsticks

It may have the 3 in front of the 20 but it still sounds like the old Classic RE20 into which I spoke words of wisdom , silliness and insanity many mornings on the air.
