Amazing

By Torin from Connecticut

Honestly shocked at the quality of this looper pedal, considering its affordable price. No buyers remorse here—I was thrilled with it the day it came in; and still am weeks later. Sweetwater is awesome, AS ALWAYS!!

Nice design, short lifespan.

By Sweetwater Customer

Thoroughly enjoyed this pedal for about 6 months then it died. Love the visual loop display and simplicity in design, but disappointed by the short service life. The Double tap to stop loop feature is undesirable because it takes too much attention to land the second tap on time. I will be Considering other options…

Goated pedal

By george w. from Portland, OR

for $, this pedal is amazing for many things. If you want to write music, you can see what all multiple guitar tracks would sound like. If you want to harmonize with yourself, this makes it so easy. I love to play something, loop it, and then change my tone to see how it sounds. it also helps to listen back on what you recorded to make sure it sounds right

Great looper

By Sweetwater Customer

I had a ditto looper back in the day and it was OK but after awhile and a bunch of stomps it broke. This one feels way more durable, with indicators that let you know what it's doing. I hated the double stomp to stop with the ditto, and this one has it too, BUT with this looper there's an option to plug in a momentary footswitch that eliminates the double stomping tap dance its great. Also the stereo features of this pedal is cool to plug a mic into and get some vocal beat boxing going along with the groove. Great pedal and the sales team took great care of me.

BOSS RC-1 LOOPER

MY REVIEW IS THIS...THIS IS THE 3rd ELECTRONIC DEVISE I HAVE PURCHASED IN THE LAST YEAR.....AND IT IS ALSO THE 3rd DEVISE THAT THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT INCLUE AN OPERATERS MANUEL, AND I SCANNED THE QR CODE TO SEE THAT THAT WEB PAGE NOT AVALIBLE....A USER MANUEL, I CAN MAYBE UNDERSTAND NOT INCLUDING A REPAIR MANUEL, BUT ALL I WANT TO DO IS USE THE PRODUCT I PURCHASED...THIS IS A GOOD REASON TO JUST PURCHASE USED GEAR, AND THE MANUFACTURERS WILL EVENTUALLY BE OUT OF BUSSNESS....

BOSS RC-1 LOOPER PEDAL

By STEVEN F. from TRI-STATE AREA EAST COAST
Music Background: MULTI INSTRUMENTALIST , PRODUCER , SONG WRITER, SESSION PLAYER

The pedal is a good unit and has a pretty good sound out once recording is made and then played back simply right to the point.
HOWEVER, one thing is wrong in the instructions. It's even on the face of the looper tap once to record that's correct. one can tap it again and overdub on it more times than you ever would. But it tells you double click and it erases everything wrong
If you have multiple recordings on it, it merely stops it i have yet to figure out how to delete all of them at once. I have to do each one at a time and if you're lucky they erase. having to do this live let's say is not going to happen while you're trying to play your part to a song takes too long so if used for only one loop and no over dubs, you're ok and its worth the buy if you do more involved things with loop pedals you will need to upgrade to a more sophisticated unit that or just by 5 or 6 of them. If someone can correct me about this or has figured out how to wipe it click with one double click please correct me I'm all ears.

Nice Looper to start with

By George L. from LEBANON, OR
Music Background: 50 Plus years guitar, some harmonica and keys

The RC-1 is typically Boss. That is it's well thought and built solid. The only place that it comes up short that I find is with the footswitch. Your still going to have to start the loop by stepping on the pedal, which means this thing has to be on the floor. The footswitch will stop a loop, but not start one, so it seems half-baked to me. However that's just my opinion.

Works for Keyboards!

By David from Gastonia NC & New Paltz NY
Music Background: Percussion 20+ years, Keyboards when I retired.

First time using a Looper. Researched many. Little about keys. Finally found Utube vid that made sense. The guy threw away the instructions and just faked it, with easy hookup and played. I can lay down a baseline, add multiple lines on top and improvise over all. Great practice tool to free up my right hand. Love it!

Had this little bad boy for about 5 years now

By David G. from Princeton KY
Music Background: 67 years old been playing since 5 years old

This was the first looper that i had had any experience with. Later one of the guys in the band bought an Electro-Harmonix looper and NO, it just wasn't the same. But this little pedal is fantastic IMHO. I use it in conjunction with a start/stop pedal that makes it very easy to use... as loopers go. Anyone that knows about loopers will tell you that loopers in general can be prissy little b****** and so, you need to really practice with them. And that goes for ANY looper. That being said, I really prefer this unit over all the others. Here's why:
When I step down on this puppy to start my loop, it starts the loop at the very instant I hit the pedal. It is as though the looper is listening to my signal and recording it even before I start looping. When I stop the loop, it is also instantaneous. There is absolutely no delay... no latency. This means that I can get into the rhythm of my song and the loop will circle around at just the absolutely correct instant in time. Loops are totally seamless. With practice, this little guy will never drop a beat. However, YOU do need to be a human metronome. Your timing and rhthyms need to be spot on...but that's the way any looper is.
I've played many shows where people have come up between sets and wanted to know where my other guitar player was. Why did they hear two or three guitars when they only saw me on stage. So, I show them the looper and explain how it works. They think i'm some sort of tech god. LOL
The round circle of LED lights makes it very easy to get accustomed to using a looper. I have not seen any or many other loopers that have this feature and I have come to really depend on it. If my loop is five seconds long, the light circle cycles very quickly. But, if my loop is several minutes in length, the light circle is slower and always just right.
In addition to using this unit live, i have also discovered what an incredible practice tool it can be at home. I can loop an entire 12-bar blues pattern and then use the loop as a backing track to practice my leads. Yeah, loopers are great and IMHO, this one is among the very best. Seriously, I don't care what level you boys play guitar at. this unit will make you a better player.

Useless

By nolan
Music Background: tone chaser

This pedal has a very high pitched Frequency noise that is caused by the pedal being in the loop pun intended. Waited to long to return item as I assumed it must just be power supply or maybe it would just go away and neither was the case the pedal is clearly defective. The current state of the guitar industry is getting pretty ridiculous a lot of companies continue to raise prices yet lower manufacturing standards. As far as pedals are concerned I was never a pedal guy and I definitely don't have a pedal board I run everything Hendrix style daisy chained through the front end. Im going to be returning to my original ethos of guitar-cable-tube amp. I have purchased roughly about 10 pedals over the last two years and not a single one of them made my signal sound better than it did with guitar-cable-amp setup. I have honestly never seen a more overrated brainwashing industry than the pedal industry. I would encourage any young guitar players reading this don't waste your money on pedals however much you have to spend spend it all on the best guitar and the best tube amp you can afford and you won't be disappointed. No pedal or plugin on this planet can give you the sound of a good guitar into a good tube amp on the sweet spot. They will all claim they can and show you sound samples for proof but when you hear the real thing live in the room you will understand how full of it the current pedal and tech companies are. also don't get me started on modern venue management and sound men who want to tell guitar players what volume to run their amps at. fkn losers. There would be no golden era of rock if it weren't for loud tube amps.

BOSS RC-1 is a Fantastic Pedal

By Richard J. from OZARK, AL
Music Background: Hard Rock and Blues for almost 50 years, yes I'm just about to be a senior citizen. Not currently in a band.

The RC-1 pedal is absolutely fantastic. I use is mainly for guitar practice, to create backing tracks to play solos and melodies over, and it's perfect for creating new music. I only wish that I had gotten one long ago. Mike is among the best sales engineers I've ever dealt with, maybe the best. That in itself makes the purchasing experience enjoyable. 5 stars all around!

No fireball?!!

By Glenn S. from El Paso, TX
Music Background: Lifetime hobbyist guitar plinker. Dayjob required.

Ok Sweetwater what happened to the Fireball? My last few orders have not had one in it and I miss it. -1/2 star...

Ok about the pedal. It's GREAT. Got it for my son to help him practice. He lays down a rhythm track then plays it back to practice his leads. Nice and easy to use, great design.

He has it first in his pedal train so he can also tweak the other pedals to his liking as it plays back.

Another thing he uses it for is to see what he needs to work on. He can play it back immediately to objectively listen and hear his weak points in a song.

This pedal has a multitude of uses. Definitely happy with this purchase.

Great looper

By Dennis from San Diego CA

Really happy with this pedal, very simple to use, just plug in and play and you now have your own rhythm section. I highly recommend getting one, it makes a huge difference in your playing, for instance you can instantly listen to your playing to see where you might need more improvement, that's what I use it for, a spot check on my technique. Very pleased with the purchase.

Best looper I've ever used!

By Chris from Virginia
Music Background: Just another player/hobbyist that just likes to jam.

I love the RC1, managed to snag one in black when they first came out and it see's more time in front of the amps than anything else. Anyway it doesn't get any better or simple to use than this, press once to record, again to stop/save, again to add overdubs and hold it down to erase. There's too many looper pedals out now that have got way to much going on. This one is bare bones yet does everything needed from a looper and more. You've got 12 minutes total recording time and what seems like infinite overdubs. I've run my drum machine into it, put down a beat, plugged a bass in, put down a bass line and so on to jam to, practice guitar or perform a full song or 2 depending on length. The home and live uses are endless. If you want a looper that does it all without 100 presets, 13 faders and 2 dozen different knobs get the RC1 for sure! It won't let you down.

Excellent Option for Simple Looping Duties!

By Samuel L. from Bowling Green, Kentucky
Music Background: Violinist/Fiddler

The Boss RC-1 is an excellent starting option for loopers! It it my first looper and it has functioned perfectly for how I use it. Looking at loopers, there were a lot of knobs, buttons, and 'fluff' that was just confusing to me. The RC-1's simple led display takes the guess work out and keeps it simple. The Level knob is nice and easy to turn with my foot if I need to. Great option!

Works as advertised

By Paul E. from OSPREY, FL

I purchased this looper pedal to replace an another older pedal from a different manufacture. I like the larger pedal, makes operation easier. Has a built in battery which means unless you unplug the pedal from your system when the amp is off the pedal remains on causing the battery to go bad. I unplug the output and it will shut it down.
The only problem I encountered was Boss Corp. factory support. I went on their web site to register the product, which requires setting up an account. After inputing my information, the site requires that you send them a email and they will send back an activation code, to finish the install. I did what was requested, but never received the code in any email to me. (Yes I checked my Junk Mail Folder) I tried multiple times with no success. I called Sweetwater for a contact phone number for Boss since the Boss web site gives no contact information. They gave me a phone number which was an automated line, left a message and never received and response back from them. You would think that a corporation as large as Roland-Boss would have some time of customer service. Glad I did not buy a high end item. And when I am in the market for another piece of equipment, I would hesitate to purchase a Roland-Boss product.

Makes a Noise during recording and playback

By Jim R. from FL

I wanted to like this unit because it was simple. The first one I got made a very high pitched pinging sound during recording and play back. It was really noticeable during pauses in the music. Eventually I figured out the pings correlated to the LED's on the circular display counting down.

The Sweetwater guys were great. They replaced it. The new one also makes the noise but it's very faint so it's also a no go.

I have no confidence in the design of this product so I'm returning it.

Great value for the money

By Sweetwater Customer

This looper is easy to use and is well worth the investment. I find a looper invaluable for practice and creativity. Sound quality is not the best, which is the only reason it did not get 5 stars. Still, for home use it works really well.

It's no RC-20XL, but it will have to do

By John A. from Harrisburg, PA
Music Background: Singer songwriter, acoustic guitar player

This was purchased recently to replace my RC-20XL which I rely on heavily for live performance in my acoustic duo. The looping function in this new pedal does what I want, as far as that goes. My only need is to lay down a verse or riff over which to play solos. I don't need storage or USB this and that. I only used one slot, cleared it, then started over. This is my main gripe about this RC-1. When you're done, you have to hit the pedal twice to stop it. Then, to clear it, you press and hold the pedal for two seconds -- WHILE THE OLD LOOP PLAYS. The only reason I didn't ship it back instantly was because I had an old Roland foot pedal which I can use to stop the loop, then press and hold it to delete without the annoying piece of the old loop. It's not ideal, but the show must go on. Kudos to Sweetwater and my rep, Patrick Dennis, for excellent customer service. As for Boss, bring back the RC-20XL. Now.

Beginners, you need this

By Zach D. from TEMPE, AZ
Music Background: Hobbyist

I'm still a musical newcomer; only been playing guitar for a little under two years at present. I think that this is a really good third or fourth pedal for a newcomer to get. The main benefit, for me, is that it makes it really easy to find out in real time what all the knobs and switches on your other gear ACTUALLY does. Record a little ditty clean and put it on loop, then start turning your other pedals on and off, start messing with the dials, start playing with different options... it's way, way easier for me to figure out what the other pedals are really capable of when I can hear them affecting the sound in real time (versus making a change, playing, making another change, playing, etc.), and it also helps to not hear the strings (just the recorded/amped sound) when you're thinking about recording something. It's also useful if you have an experienced teacher nearby: they can play what a riff is supposed to sound like, and then you can play along with it while it's on loop! Four stars is because the single-input interface is kind of confusing and it's a little hard to use it on the fly, but I understand why it's designed that way. I really like this pedal.

Not for using live..

By Ronnie from Kapaa, HI
Music Background: Gigging musician, song writer, producer

These units have a very bad habit of accidentally and randomly dropping into weird modes that aren't explained in the owners manual and makes the unit unusable. It usually happens with a weak battery. It doesn't take long to have a weak battery with these, lol! It takes a lot of messing around to get it back into factory mode. If it happens live you won't use it again that night.. and you will spend the next 2 days in frustration trying to set it back again. I honestly despise the thing.

Boss RC-1 Loop Station

By Marc G. from Sherman Oaks, CA
Music Background: Been playing semi-pro for many years

This is my 3rd looper pedal. The 1st 2 were too complicated and I had to pull out the instructions too often. Got the Boss RC-1 and finally a looper pedal that is to use on a live gig or at home. Just press the pedal in time to the music once to record, twice to save and stop and again once to play the loop you saved. To erase just hold the pedal down with your foot. Plenty of memory, I think it's like 12 minutes or something, which is more than I will ever need. I've started using it in live gigs and after awhile it becomes instinctive and doesn't interfere with or distract from my playing.

October 22, 2021

Very Nice

By Jake from LEWISTON, ME
Music Background: Church Music, solo gigs, fun at home

This is my first experience with a loop pedal, and I think this pedal is a good introduction. The display is easy to see, if a little cryptic. You have to memorize some things to configure it effectively (such as what it means when the top half of the circle lights red, and/or the bottom half lights green and red).

The playback sound quality is perfect, and it's not as hard as I feared it might be to nail the loop timing.

There are only a few downsides: first, doing the configuration is a little odd. It's not hard, you just really have to read the instructions and pay attention.

Secondly, and perhaps the main downside, is that in order to turn the loop off, you have to double-click the pedal. Double clicking with your foot isn't always easy, especially if you need to turn off the loop at exactly the right moment in a song.

Thirdly, to erase the loop, you have to hold down the pedal for 2 seconds. This is fine, EXCEPT that when the loop is paused, and you want to erase it, and you press down the pedal for 2 seconds, that makes the loop start again (and plays for those 2 seconds). Very unfortunate if you are in a live situation.

There is a solution for the #2 and #3 problems above: if you plugin in an external footswitch, you can stop and erase the loop in one press, which solves both these issues. The external footswitch also gives you the ability to undo an overdub you just laid down, which is really handle if you messed it up. I actually just use the foot pedal that came with my keyboard, and that works fine.

Lastly note that this thing eats 9volt batteries like crazy. I only get maybe 8 hours or so out of one. I don't have a lot to compare that with, but it seems like a lot to me.

Simple and Effective

By Bret S. from Ohio

I needed a simple looper to record phrases for playing solo guitar. I do this for practice, inspiration, writing and during live applications. I mostly play at churches and sometimes I am the only person leading worship. I needed something to record phrases to play leads over, to sing over, and to use during altar calls. This is exactly what I wanted.

I hooked up a footswitch for one stomp stops and undo functions. I like that you can configure the modes of operation. From the factory it's set up to record then overdub. I wanted it to record and then play. Following the manual I configured it to do that. There's several options to choose from for different things. You can choose how it stops, rather immediately or finishing out the phrase.

It's a handy pedal that's reliable, consistent and easy to use. It fits perfectly for the job I needed it to do. It accurately reproduces what you put into it. I use it in the FX loop of a Boss Katana combo with it set to post reverb loop so everything I put into the looper will be reproduced and remain when changing presets. Works great as an affordable, portable setup.

Easy to use & helpful practice aid

By Sweetwater Customer

I've really enjoyed having this pedal on my board -- I think it has already helped w/ my timing & rhythm. I'm using it mostly to provide backup while I practice scales & solos. I can also see myself getting more comfortable with it already & I'll probably have the skills to use it live before too long. Both the level knob and the LED's that show where you are in the loop are helpful every time you use it. This is my first looper pedal, and I highly recommend.

Great first looper for me

By Sweetwater Customer

I was looking for my first looper & I liked the relative simplicity of this one & the stereo features. I play a Tom Anderson Crowdster, so I can loop the magnetic & piezo pickups both at the same time, which is really cool. My main reasons for purchasing are for practice, and this helps me really buckle down and work on both my rhythm and lead playing. I'm really glad I picked this up!

Boss is the best

Solid pedal. Excellent sound reproduction. This is the first looper that I've worked with. I'm still learning how to get the most out of it in live performance. I love it in practice.

Great Looper!

By Freddy M.
Music Background: Composer/Keyboardist/Producer

I was curious about using a looper on my solo piano gigs so I picked this one up just to experiment. I am very happy with the quality of construction and how simple and straight forward it is to operate. If you're thinking about picking up an inexpensive looper then I suggest you give this one a try.

RC-1 Looper

By Kurt N.

I wasn't sure about using a looper, but decided to take the plunge a few weeks ago. So far I have had no problems with the RC-1, it has worked as advertised, and I like it for the simplicity and basic features. Being able to plug in another footswitch (I had one lying around that works fine) to have a separate STOP switch made it easier. I also like being able to program it to choose between OVERDUB or PLAY the second time you hit the built-in switch. Until I get the timing down I may not try to use it for gigs, but for now it is great for practicing and fun! Performing in an acoustic duo (guitar/vocals) and acoustic trio (guitar/bass/vocals) it has the potential to help expand our repertoire or embellish songs we already play. And of course, Sweetwater is the best!

Cool Pedal.

Does everything it's made to do well. Great help for practicing. I was pleasantly surprised to learn you can switch the playback and overdub order. Its a great, simple tool to add into your setup with lots of benefits.

Switching issues

By JG from Wisconsin
Music Background: Professional

It works just OK most of the time. The switch is physically noisy in concert and quiet venues. Closing the loop doesn't work all the time. The light distracts the audience. I have many great Boss pedals and I like the switching mechanisms but it doesn't work accurately enough for a looping application. The Ditto switching mechanism works better and is quieter.

BOSS RC-1 looper

By Michael D. from chicago area
Music Background: 50 plus years doing gigs from coast to coast, some original mostly covers

Still learning the ins/outs of using a LOOPER, but the experience has been enjoyable/educational.
this is a simple product to navigate, other loopers I have seen in video demos are more complicated, maybe they do more
I don't know. It is being used it in a bass guitar application. I had an objective and the BOSS RC-1 meets and exceeds my need. For me the more difficult thing was to enlarge the instruction manual, the printing was a bit small, especially 4 someone who is 66 years rockin young.
Hats OFF 2 the guys who made the video demos, they represented the product perfectly.

Simple and straight forward loop pedal

By Richie from Lower Left Part of the Country
Music Background: Richie's Rock-n-Roll Revival

I like the simple functionality of this looper. The little red lights are perfect for coming in at the right time. I use two in tandem on my V-Drums output to create my own drum loops to play guitar with. I use one on my guitar board to play drums with. I works with anything. The playback is nice too. The playback has the same color and tone as the signal that goes into it. Boss products never disappoint.

Great loop pedal.

By Joe from New York
Music Background: Intermediate play at home.

Ok I do not normally use any effects pedals because I am mostly playing jazz. But this loop pedal is pretty easy to use and comes in handy while you are basically shut off from playing with other people. Awesome

It is just OK.

By Edwin S. from New York
Music Background: Inductee to The New York Blues Hall Of Fame 2014

For a beginner it's perfect. For a season musician like me? It's OK. I use it one I play out side and I don't have electricity. It works fine. I don't like that when you are stopping it. It plays for a couple of seconds then it stops. No good. But over all. They are good peddles.

Sound great, takes a bit of time to figure out modes

By joseph h. from louisville, KY

I just got this today. Bought as practice tool to review my playing. Figure lot easier that trying to record to a DAW. If you are new to loopers like me and like most guys who don't read manuals, this can be a bit tricky to work. It has 2 modes, record and play plus record, overdub and play. For some unknown reason the default mode is set to overdub.

It does sound good, very much like original sound.. Huge Boss fan. Most of them are killer for the money. Giving only 4 stars because of the odd choice on default mode. You assume you are in playback, but you are are overdubbing. Read the manual, or at least check youtube vids on this.

Great pedal!

By Sweetwater Customer

This pedal is terrific. I've learned through YouTube how to activate Mode 2 (where the functions are Record>Playback>Overdub>Stop, as opposed to Record>Overdub>Play>Stop). It may seem like a small thing, but it helped me a lot. Super useful for practicing.

June 18, 2020

Loops as advertised

By Sweetwater Customer

Solid and easy to understand pedal. It does take practice to get the loop to transition properly back to its starting point if you are creating a backing track though, so be prepared to struggle for a while.

Excellent looper

By Fred from Florida

12 minutes recording time and multiple layering is very useful. Easy to read display lets you know when you are recording, playing back and layering. It even saves the track so if you need to take a break you can pick up where you left off. You can also remove layers, keeping what you want while eliminating goofs.

A great intro to looping

By Drew from ATL
Music Background: Professional

I love my little red RC1. I fly a massive pedal board because my electric guitar has an on board piezo system. This looper allows for 2x2 I/O which is awesome. I've tried some other models with tons more features but this one is rugged, easy to use, and only takes up one standard pedal's worth of space. I love it so much that I bought another to use with my Alesis strikepad. It's great for practice, writing, and performing.

Two small issues.
Number one, the mechanism makes a pretty loud noise when stomped on. Clearly audible to audience in more intimate settings.
Number two, (the BIG one) USE THE BOSS POWER SUPPLY! If you don't, your pedal will malfunction immediately. ALL of the negative comments here are due to the user ignoring this warning and plugging a one spot or other 9v to it. This pedal will suck a 9v battery dry in about 30 minutes so get the BOSS power supply. It doesn't come with the pedal.

Boss looper

By Jack from LI NY
Music Background: Guitarist/ songwriter

Sorry I don't like it . It works fine , easy and i liked the light circling and battery power . It uses a lot of wall transformer energy so if your daisy chaining pedals use a seperate one for this . I also really don't like the idea of having to buy another pedal to retain loops after shut down (!according to the directions ) . I lost loops I would have wanted to keep for a later time .you can't record at home and play it back somewhere else like a recording studio (that would save you money )!or to a stage setup I guess the RC3'may be better but it's $80 more . For the money I would get a Ditto for about the same price as the RC1 . It retains the last played loop and over dubs after shut down and unplugging , but the Ditto doesn't doesn't have battery power .
Sorry Boss , I do use some of your other pedals !

Best Function for a dark room

By Satomage from Brooklyn, NY
Music Background: One Man Band

I have a setup that uses loopers extensively and for quick starts, stops, dubs, and erases this is the easiest looper to use that I"ve tried and definitely don"t discount the functionality of that circular display cause it stands out even on the darkest floor and is incredibly helpful for timing. Not only would I buy this again but I already have and plan on grabbing a few more but that"s a long convoluted story about my own strange setup.

By Josh L. from Montgomery, AL
Music Background: Beginner

Very simple to use and I love it! Sure, I don"t get the complexity as I would with other loop stations, but i can still make some epic tracks and have a blast. I will upgrade sooner or later, but for now (and for that price) this pedal works great.

Awesome Looper

By Josh

I mainly use this for practicing, but it's great for composing as well.

3 Best features:
1. I primarily record shorter chord progressions, so I haven't gotten much use out of the 12 minute recording time, but it's nice to not have to worry about if your loop is going to be too long.

2. The level control only affects the loop volume. It makes it a lot easier to push the loop into the background while you play over it.

3. After you finish recording your loop it goes into overdub-mode so that way your loop blends together and doesn't have a harsh jump when the loop repeats.

February 8, 2019

Too Quiet

By Dan from Polk City, IA
Music Background: Intermediate

You play your loop, and it is played at a volume. When you play overtop the loop, the loop volume is aggressively cut, so you have to stop playing and adjust the loops volume knob to correct.

In other words, your loop on its own is playing at 100% volume. When you play over it, max volume (knob @ 5 o'clock) splits the loop volume and your volume close to 50 / 50. Anywhere other than 5'oclock and your guitar drowns out the loop. Why doesn't the loop just stay at one volume whether I'm playing or not? It's so disorienting to listen to.

A lahort earning curve, but solid and simple

By Joe from Alabama

As with most Boss stomp boxes, this unit works as advertised. All loopers demand a bit of a learning curve, both on how the unit works and in terms of one"s own technique. I have only had about 45 minutes of play time on it and already have a grip on its basics. Now it"s a matter of getting my own timing and technique polished up. Latent learning is going on, of course, and I expect that when I next get to work with it, I will be much faster on the uptake. It"s extremely clean-sounding, and with a little judicious use of some other effects along with the looper, it"s usefulness will only increase. But don"t even try gigging with it until you have mastered at least the basics (the operative words being "mastered" and "basics").

Great Pedal

By Garth

After giving my RC-3 to my son, I decided to go with the RC-1. I loved the RC-3, BTW, but didn't need quite all of the features. I bought to be my rhythm guitarist when I practice and it works perfectly for that. The sound is nice and clean, and with a little common sense the levels are not hard to set. I highly recommend.

Pretty cool

By John

This item is pretty cool, although when I made a clean Loop I turned on overdrive and the loop that was suppose to be clean was to distorted. well I I thought turning the level down would help, it did a little, but loop was over powered by the lead I was playing so couldn't hear the loop. I turned the level up a little but then the loop was to distorted again. One other thing, when I play a loop it's pretty cool that it adds on to the loop when play more stuff, but because of that it's probably a little to much to think about while your performing live. But it is afordable, bed room friendly, durable small but again a little complicated for the stage.

Great pedal to have

By Federico from Maryland

This is a great pedal to have in your collection. It's very simple to use and an awesome pedal to have. You can play backing tracks made by yourself while practicing scales or soloing over your own track. I would recommend to buy a Boss FS-5U with this pedal, as it would make it even easier to use.

My First Looper

By Eddie C. from Colorado
Music Background: Non professional..but play out in jams

I am new to looping so I decided to start small with the Boss RC-1. It's a minimal looper which I think it great for the neophyte.

Being a neophyte I'm not sure Looping is for me yet...but the RC-1 is fun to play with. I'm learning the nuances of basic looping. Learning the timing...there is a slight delay before playback and overdubbing modes start which is throwing me off...but I think I'll get the hang of it. Intro's don't work well because an intro does not require looping! I have to concentrate on phrases.

I would recommend this unit to any beginning Looper...but it is very basic...that's the only reason I can give this unit only a 3.0.rating out of 5. I would not spend any more on a looper without knowing how I acclimate to looping!

Simple is good

By Sweetwater Customer

Does what it does and doesn't over complicate it. It's hard enough trying to play guitar AND build loops!
4.5 because some times when I power it up it gets very confused and the LED circle does abnormal things. A quick pull of the power plug to 'reboot' and it always comes back fine. Could be that my power supply is weak.

Boss RC-1 Loop Station Review

By Nathan from Lovell, ME

Simple, very easy to use, and overall just a lot of fun. Great for practicing or playing on stage. If you are planning on using this pedal a lot I would highly recommend getting a good 9V power supply so you don't have to keep replacing the battery. Also, make sure to thoroughly read the owner's manual because there are ways to change the recording and stop mode. Very helpful if you want to change the order in which you record, overdub, playback, and also what tapping the pedal does.

Thank you Sweetwater!

February 16, 2016

works as advertised

By Sweetwater Customer

Works as advertised very simple design.the led ring is useful. This is my first looper experience and ill tell you it takes some serious practice to get it to loop properly with no breaks in the loop when coming back around.this is just my timing(not the loopers fault).seems solid. the reason for only 4 stars is because no ac adapter was included. I suggest buying the ac adaptor or rechargeable 9v batteries.

Strong & Simple

By Kyle from Indiana
Music Background: Worship Leader

This is a great loop pedal. I was torn between this one and one of the TC varieties (Ditto & Ditto Stereo). This is not a comment on either of the TC pedals because I haven't used either one, but I do not regret my decision to buy this one. I primarily use it for personal practice, but have also used it during music sets at church by preloading an ambient pad onto it & kicking it on for the intro of a song. (We don't use a lot of loops, so this does the job for us... I also added an Oknob to the level control so I can fade it in with my foot.)

This thing is so easy to use. Within minutes you can have it up and running. The controls are straight forward and easy to remember after looking at the manual for 2 minutes or watching a YouTube video. You can also switch up a couple of the controls, which is helpful. (After you're done with the first loop, do you want it to just start playing the loop back or go into over-dub mode immediately? Stuff like that.)

The level knob has an even sweep, too. While Boss admitted the circle of LEDs was a bit of a gimmick, it's actually pretty helpful. And - like all Boss pedals - this thing is SOLID. Built to last for sure.

Amazing !

By Sweetwater Customer from Minnesota

For people like myself just beginning to get into looping this pedal is fantastic.. Plugged in and had a song up and running in minutes.. No issues with loop timing at all - (keeping in mind that having good basic meter is essential for any use of a looper) Like others say, Boss RC-1 Loop Station is simple to use.. not complicated like others I have tried to use before and failed miserably. I look forward to using this live in my gig next week :) As always, Sweetwater is great.. fast processing and shipping !

Love it!

By Nick

I've had mine about a year and it's a wonderful tool. The minimal feature set is exactly what I was looking for in a looper.
I chose this over the many other simple loopers on the market because the boss switch is more foot friendly for playing barefoot around the house. That combined with the lights make it easy to get a perfectly timed loop.
You should also read the instructions to familiarize yourself with the different modes. I have mine set to go from record mode to playback mode instead of instantly starting another loop, which is different from the default mode.
I'd recommend the external stop/undo switch if you're going to use it live.

Boss loop pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

One person wrote that the pedal did not do well with gain. They said they could not hear the loop. If you have the pedal in the Input through your amp then this will be the case. If your amp has an effects loop then it will do high gain loops great. So if you are a metal/rock player make sure your amp has an effects loop and it will work great.

Simple and great

By Allen from Idaho
Music Background: Former Professional and luthier.

If you are like me and love to get just the basics, this product is for you. To use it, stomp on it, it starts recording. Stomp again I stops recording. you need to do double stomps or stomp and holds to tell the device what to do as in overdub insert or remove or stop overall. I have a three button pedal that I had to work with my J-station and it works with this instead of the coded stomps on the loop station pedal. The ease in use with this device is made even better by the visual loop indicator.

AWESOME LOOP!

By MIKE from NY
Music Background: LEAD GUITAR PLAYER

One of the best tools I have owned as a lead guitar player. Very helpful. Only draw back I have not figured out yet is ...there is a pause in recording at the exact spot where I ended the recording. This is frustrating when playing lead over what I recorded when pause comes in. This is the reason for the 4.5 rating. Don't know if it's me or something I need to adjust.....very good tool for someone who plays lead although it can be used for just about anything. I highly recommend this one. This loop pedal is oh so simple. It's one of those things you go to all the time for just plain fun!!! It requires almost zero effort. I have a more complicated model with many more features but, I use this one more often. It's great as a songwriting or practice tool. Make your own backing tracks and add a lead. Easy connections. Bigger is not always better. This is a must have.
