Envelope Follower Pedal with Effects Loop and Attack Response Switch

The Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron+ envelope follower pedal takes a great design even further! In addition to the original Q-Tron's great features and sound, the Q-Tron+ gives you an effects loop that lets you put an additional effect between the Q-Tron+'s preamp and filter section without changing the envelope drive. An Attack Response switch has also been added, allowing you to choose between the classic fast response of the original Q-Tron and a slower, smoother attack. If you're looking for some ultra-cool, funky and active filtered tones, check out the Q-Tron+!

The Master of Envelope Filters

By David D. from Chicago, IL

What a great pedal. Funny, I was reading on some boards people saying there really is only one setting/sweet spot for all the dials to be in. Sure, if you want to sound like Jerry, well, you are going to have to set it to the most Jerry-like spot and keep it all right there! But I am finding so much other utility in addition to wanting to sound like Jerry. Setting the mode to to HP really opens up the tone and dials down the wah and I find it just super cool to use on an acoustic, just one example. Definitely use cases for slow and fast responses and different sweeps. I worry about over using it at a gig to now "always" have it be "the" sound...but there is enough flexibility there that I can play 5 or 6 songs with it and they all sound unique in their own way.

If I have a gripe with all Envelope Filters I have used, it is wishing there was a volume knob at the output...generally the QTron is pretty good at outputting at the right volume when the gain is set just right...but not always and in every application. For a player like me, I like to control volume with the guitar...but then that effects the gain of an Envelope Filter. I already have a wah and an expression pedal in my setup...I certainly dont want to add a volume pedal to the mix. But that is kind of what you get with all EFs...luckily in most cases the QTron does just fine.

And most importantly, it just...sounds...fantastic.

Excellent! Estimated Prohet

By Sweetwater Customer

I'm getting great Garcia and Mayer tones out of this box. Really cool!
I have tried the nano qtron its very good but not as good. The peak knob is really useful for dialing in tones.

It has a built in boost before the filter. This is cool because typically to get the Garcia like tone you have to clean boost before the filter. (Garcia had stratoblaster preamp in his guitar). I'm using a JHS prestige to mimic the stratoblaster but you don't really need it since it has a boost built in.

Nails the Grateful Dead - Estimated Prophet tone. its so fun!

Very happy with the Q Tron Plus

By Dan from Vermont
Music Background: Been around the music circuit quite a while.

For that authentic "Jerry" sound, Q Tron Plus is the real deal. I had tried the Micro Q Tron previously and found it less responsive to the attack/signal from my guitar. The Plus has more "tweaking" options and thus seems much more responsive to the guitar signal. The extra $$ was definitely worth it. It does what it's supposed to do, and that's the bottom line.
The only cons are that it needs its own 24v power supply (standard pedal board power wont handle it). It would also be nice if the Plus had a volume level control knob, especially when used with boost/overdrive pedals. It can get a bit loud. but a volume pedal would help with that issue.
Otherwise, 5 Stars!

Exactly what I wanted

By Ryan from Texas

I have used a few other envelope filters. I am not an envelope filter aficionado, but this is the one that does what I expect it to. The touch dynamics make sense. I never got more or less filter/quack from my playing that I want. It was very simple and quick to dial in exactly what I wanted. The mix is my favorite mode, blending your guitar signal with the BP. I also can't speak highly enough of the FX send/return. Putting a fuzz in that loop versus before or after the effect creates a vastly better tone. I'm happy to just stay with this one for my quacky, funky, whop-whop needs.

Worth it

By Hiialo C.

This is such a killer pedal. packs a punch and very adjustable. It gives off nice John Mayer tones and Jerry Garcia type wahs. Never been happier with this thing. It's not too big in terms of size and its built very sturdy.

In terms of tones and sounds this thing has a variety of options with two different sweep options, a boost stage and different modes. You can go from a low refined sweeping R&B type tone to an up-tempo funky grateful dead sound that will fill the room with clear notes.

One issue. This is a 24v pedal and the barrel is a 2.5mm as to a normal 2.1mm barrel like other pedals. Most power supplies will not have the power for it. So you have to get the voltage splitter if you want to plug it in with a power supply.
I have a strymon Zuma so I got the 24volt 2.5 mm barrel into 2 12 volt 2.1mm barrels so I can adapt the Qtron to the Zumas adjustable power sources

QTron+ ROCKS

By Clay

This pedal is so cool! It"s a very funky sounding pedal and it sounds great with a bit of gain! It adds a spark of creativity whenever i play through it. Only reason i gave it 4.5 was because it came with a small chip in the paint. no biggy, itd happen regardless. GREAT PRODUCT.

Shakedown street sound

By Sweetwater Customer

It's a amazing pedal to get that funky sound. I bought it for that cool Jerry Garcia Shakedown Street and Fire on the Mountain sound and I achieved it and got more cool sounds out of it. Highly recommended

Vintage 70's funk tone for bass

By Ed from Earth
Music Background: Always learning

The Q-Tron maintains the low end real nice. It has 4 frequency settings but only 2 are usable for bass. It has more of a subtle wah tone. I had the Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah for a long time. The Boss got annoying if you left it on too long, it also didn't hold the low end real well.

The Q-Tron lets you tone down the "squawk" a little. It has a pleasant analog tone. My opinion is that auto-wah effects sounds better going through the amp than direct. But this pedal doesn't sound too bad direct. I live in an apartment so I have to practice with headphones. I put the Q-Tron before a Keeley compressor to manage squawk going through my headphones. Most of the envelope filters I heard online make your bass not sound like a bass anymore. But you really have to spend time playing with the settings to get a usable sound. Depending if the sweep is set up or down, you have to experiment with it for a while.

I initially bought the standard Q-Tron (without the +.) I thought the only difference was that the Plus version had an FX loop. When I got it, I realized the standard version didn't have the Response setting. It was an easy exchange and I got the Plus version.

The downside: It takes a 24-volt adapter so you can't hook it up to most pedal-power units that only supply 9, 12 or 18 volts. Also, I think it could of been downsized a little. Three of the knobs only have two positions you can set. So maybe they could have put left/right switches underneath the fully rotatable knobs. I had to cut the rubber feet off with a knife so it would mount properly onto the pedal board.

Overall, it's not a bad pedal. Analog is the way to go on this effect.
