Great Snare Head PrePack
I have bought this prepack twice now. I have been a long time REMO Ambassador Coated user, but these Attack Proflex 1 were a nice cheaper option for snares I don't use quite as much.
The quality of these heads look great. I have been putting them on my Acrolite snares. The coating on the heads feel slightly lighter than an Ambassador. I think they feel very much like Ludwig Weather King heads.
This snare pack has a nice open sound. They installed easy and all of the crimps looked well made. The bottom head had decent weight and tuned up nicely on an old aluminum shell that was slightly out of round. They are a good middle of the road head. If you like Remo Ambassadors or Evans G1's, you should give these a try. The price vs quality is hard to beat.
Best heads on the market!
Absolutely amazing sounding heads. I used these on my Mapex Tomahawk snare. The heads remind of Remo, where they need to be stretched out and broke in. I tune my snares a bit passed mid-rangegoing into high and tight, and after a four hour session of recording and playing hard, they still stayed in tune and showed no signs of dents or wear. Planning on making the switch from my normal go to heads to Attack!
Defective...
Just received this pack to replace the stock heads on a new Premier Snare drum. The reso is fine- not too thin and should work well. I've purchased the Attack Top Baron head (red dot) and it is my favorite head to put on wooden snare drums. The batter in this set however does not equal the Top Baron at all. As a matter of fact, I played two songs on my kit and towards the end of the last song, I noticed the texture coating coming off. Two more songs later, and there is a bald spot the size of an orange in the center. Head still sounds fine but the durability is just not there. If you're looking for an inexpensive reso- this set is fine but the batter that comes with it might not be to your liking
Great Deal on Excellent Heads
If you haven't tried Attack Drum Heads I definitely recommend giving them a shot. They are every bit as quality if not higher quality than the other big brands with much better pricing. This a great deal if you just need some solid all around heads to refresh a snare drum and get it cracking again.
Perfect Snare Refresh
If you're a drummer that prefers a 1-ply 10mil coated snare head, this pack is perfect! Every manufacturer has their version of this head, and they all sound similar enough. This one is no different, blank canvas of open sound ready to be colored by your snare's construction/material and individual tuning. The resonant head is slightly heavier (4mil) than other manufacturers' standard snare side head (3mil). I've noticed the extra thickness holds higher tensions better and for longer. It's a happy middle ground between the standard and heavy variants. Perfect pack for your everyday snare and to have as a backup.
Surprisngly great heads
I bought a used PDP kit for $200 to leave at a rehearsal room and thought I would cheap out and put these heads on it.
To my surprise they sound great. They're oddly warm and "wet" but also have a punch to them. They resonate well and have decent amount of body to them.
I have used all the brands - these are warmer and rounder than Remo, more focused than Aquarian and have more punch than Evans. Definitely worth playing with to see if they fit what you're doing.
Simply awesome
Summary: I'd say save your money, don't get the Remo Ambassador's and get these. They're both REALLY CLOSE. I feel like perhaps the Attack has a bit more crack. I own two Yamaha Stage Customs Snares. I put this head on one of them and paired it with the Attack Snare Reso and tuned them exactly the same as my other snare that have the Remo's. It does feel like the Attack might have some more body and less unnecessary high pitch hiss after the overtones have passed away. I can't comment on durability and wished they mentioned where these are made. I'll comment later on how they hold up. Hopefully I will have tested and compared the Evans and Aquarian equivalents by then. It's a thumbs up.
Solid tune-up kit for a snare refresh
Great hoop design please read full review
I have a mapex hammered steel snare which for some reason has been horrible trying to get heads to fit I literally have to force the head on but this attack head fits on there perfect it has something to do with the collar around the head I've been a Remo guy for 35 years I love the reverse dot head but finally a head that can compete with Remo has come along let me say I don't use evans those heads are for kids but anyway this head sounds great has a really nice pop tuned high I love that there's no glue in the collar there's no popping when you tighten the head
