Music Production Desk with Rolling Tray for Compact MIDI Controller Keyboard and 2 x 3U Rack Bays - Black Trim

The key to being a successful songwriter is to have an environment you're totally comfortable working in, with all of your essential gear in reach. In that light, an RAB Audio ProRak music production desk may be the single most important investment you make in your studio. Many of us here at Sweetwater have built our entire rigs around desks like the ProRak. This ProRak 48 provides you with a roll-out shelf that offers plenty of space for a compact MIDI controller keyboard. A pair of 3U rack bays up top also gives you plenty of space for your outboard gear, and there's still more than enough room to keep your tabletop synths, modules, audio interfaces, and control surfaces all within easy reach. Top it off with fully adjustable legs and a comfortable amount of knee clearance, and you can't help but appreciate the elegance and utility of the RAB Audio ProRak studio desk.

Great Purchase

By John H.
Music Background: Amateur Sound Engineer

Is this a lot of money for a desk? Yes. But this isn't your typical desk. I've had this thing for about 6 years now and it is still as durable and sturdy as the day i first put it together. It has been through a move, me sitting on it to reach stuff, spreading managed democracy across the galaxy, you name it and it just simply works exactly the way you need it to. Trust me, i know about durability; Im a Helldiver!

Worth every penny!

Good Solid Desk

By Tom S. from Minnesota

Desk arrived in good condition. A bit heavy, so plan to have 2 people to move it around. Good, simple assembly and solid, comfortable base for production work. Keyboard/MIDI tray is a smooth-working nice feature.

Solid and Sturdy

By Larry J. from CORDOVA, TN

With all the things I planned to place and mount on the desk, I wanted something that could stand the weight. This desk certainly does the job. The assembly is easy and it is not terribly heavy, although you probably need 2 people to carry it around. If you use a widescreen monitor or even dual monitor setup, plan on separate speaker stands unless you're fine with monitors sitting on the edges.

My only complaint is that the desk sits a little low and needed some help from wood blocks to avoid my knees hitting the bottom. If you use an office chair with high armrests, that could make the slideout tray tough to use. And as mentioned before, horizontal space runs out quickly after a decent monitor setup, but you probably shouldn't be putting your monitors on your desktop anyway, as it's hard to accomplish the desired equilateral triangle setup that way.

We'll see how this stands the test of time, but it's solidly constructed and nice to look at. It's a great buy for smaller project studios that can afford it.

Perfect for my home Studio

By Angela O. from AZ
Music Background: Voice Actor

I have a very small recording space and this workstation fits perfectly but does not compromise in usable space. I have a 27" desktop monitor & 2 JBL 305s on either side, with room to spare. Packaged and delivered with extreme care and the assembly took less than 15 minutes. Just screw on the legs and attach the braces, that's it! Very sturdy and well built, a very welcome and handsome addition to my studio.

Excellent desk

By cc from Denver, CO
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, project studio recording

I looked at every studio desk I could find before deciding on the RAB Audio ProRack 48, and I am quite happy with my decision.

The desk is extremely stable and it looks good. It sits solidly on the floor; you don't have to worry about your computer and studio monitors making it top-heavy. I have a 27" iMac and Adam F5s on the top shelf with no movement issues.

The roll-out tray is at the perfect height (and height-adjustible) and it's more than big enough for a full-size computer keyboard and mouse.

There is no dedicated cable-management system; I use velcro ties to keep things organized and it's easy to attach cords to the rear braces that way. It works fine.

The black laminate shows fingerprints, but pretty much all dark smooth laminate does that.

One of the best things about it is the shipping and assembly. It is packed vertically and partially assembled on a wooden pallet. All you have to do is screw on the legs, attach the braces, tip it forward, and you're done. I had the desk put together and the pallet out the door in twenty minutes.

I've tried the cheap desks; the RAB costs twice as much as some others, but it's more than twice as good. Compared to more expensive products, it isn't made of exotic wood or have a trendy look, but it's solid and functional and you don't have to think about it. Overall, this is a great desk.
