Great mixer

By Jason from Cincinnati
Music Background: Decades of gigs on guitar and bass

I bought this several months ago and have had a bit of time with it. I use it to mix my helix floor, R8 drum machine, conventional guitar amp and effects. I'm running it into a qsc gx5 and a decent pair of 15" floor monitors.
It does a great job with very litte noise and is very clear at any level. It sounds decent running it to a daw. Sliders and knobs are very smooth and has a lot of path flexability. The effects are not anything to write home about but they might be ok live if you don't have anything else. The only thing that I think should have been delt with is, when powering down it spikes the main out (pops) even when main out is at minimum. You have to shut you power amp(s) off first, this cost it a half star.
Overall a great mixer for a small price.

Consistent Quality & Performance

By Larry W. from Illinois
Music Background: Christian, country, R&B and blues.

I was having multiple issues with signal to noise ratio and assorted problems with hum. My home studio compact mixer was very inexpensive and several years old.

All of my signal issues were immediately resolved with the purchase of this mixer. I have a Mackie mixer that I have used on stage for over 20 years. I was so glad to see that nothing has changed. If your looking for products that just work as described, Mackie is still one of the best!

Awesome sound

By Larry G. from Nags Head, NC
Music Background: Mucisian / Performer

Bought this mixer with a Bose L1 system. It's a perfect match. Extremely clean and natural. Easy to use and great effects. All the features needed to go line in to a house system and control the line signal separately from my main. Perfect for my needs. The best sound I've ever had for my acoustic solo and duo acts. James Shilliday and the folks at Sweetwater were awesome and helped me match up exactly what I needed. Well packaged and arrived in perfect condition in 3 days!

Luv it

By Daurice from Destrehan, La

This is the second mixer I have used and a different brand than my first. I am very impressed with Mackie. Not only does it give me the professional sound I need but the durability of the case is impressive. The service at Sweetwater is equally impressive and I will continue to purchase through them.

Luv this mixer

By Daurice from Destrehan, La
Music Background: Podcaster

I upgraded from Tascam and decided to try the Mackie. I am very happy with it. I did have the microphone preamp go out on it and Sweetwater had no problem with me sending it in for repair. It turns out they have a 2-year warranty at no extra cost. I needed it asap so I bought one from a local dealer but they wanted $49.99 for the 2-year warranty. So, I made the purchase for emergency minus the warranty and ordered another one for a spare from Sweetwater. Once it arrives I will return the other one to the local dealer. I want to commend Sweetwater for responding quickly. I wrote them on a Sunday since that's when I had the issue and on Monday morning they answered me. They did a remote check and then e-mailed me the address to send it to. Lesson learned: always have a spare on hand for emergencies and always shop with Sweetwater for great customer service and products. Kudos to Casey and Kyle for all of your help.

Great Mixer

By Larry from upstate NewYork

...this thing is insane! It has may options on it that I haven't even addressed yet. It is very intuitive and professionally set for a successful mix every time. The 7 band EQ is a huge plus.Built like a tank and ready for action. The effects are all actually usable which is refreshing! I would recommend this to a friend for sure!!!

Mackie ProFX8v2 Mixer with USB and Effects

By Paul (. from North Carolina
Music Background: Performing professionally since 1970

I am a solo acoustic guitarist singer/songwriter and use a small mixer for my live shows, which occasionally include one or two other artists on instruments and/or vocals. My trusty Peavey PV-6 was starting to get noisy and I needed a replacement but wanted a unit with effects and a few more inputs and features. The Mackie has most of the features of a larger mixer in a small package at a really great price. Lots of little things like a break switch, individual channel mutes, separate monitor mix controls and a graphic EQ that can be assigned to the main or monitor mix. The mic preamps are really quiet, making this unit suitable for recording performances. The preset effects are easy to use. The unit is deceptively heavy, with a solid metal chassis. I also like the fact that it does not need an external power supply. One less thing to carry. All in all, it is a great unit and hopefully will give me many years of reliable service...

For a non technical person, it was very easy to set up, worked perfectly in minutes The sound quality and interface directly to the computer and Live Videos was fantastic. Takes all the tinny sounds and background noise out.

Thanks Jozy!

By Bill from Great Barrington, MA
Music Background: audio troublemaker

The new Mackie slid right in and covered the gig when the old Mackie faltered. It arrived when promised, and suits the performance rig perfectly. Jozy's recommendation and fast shipping saved the day. Thanks, Jozy!
The pre-amps are clean, there's tons of headroom. I like the feel of the fader's knobs way better than my old 1642VLZ3, especially during a gig, when I have to quickly and accurately adjust levels in dim light. I don't use built-in effects, so I can't comment on their usefulness. Extra points for no wall wart, and XLR Mains on the back instead of the top.

not the old Mackie

By Peter M. from Austin Texas
Music Background: guitarist ,recording engineer

I have been a fan of Mackie for a long time .I have had 3 of there older mixers 24x8 ,16x2 ,and a 1402fx
all great mixers clean and very usable .So I needed a small format mixer for a duo act and naturally bought the Mackie profx8v2 .Needless to say I am very dissappointed .I find it very noisy on all preamp channels and the effects only add more noise.
Not the old Mackie Quality .Spend a little more and stay away from these mixers

So far...so good. Took me awhile to learn how to use the effects, but I like! Haven't used at bigger venues yet.

good value

By Donnie A. from Ohio

I've used the older version of this mixer and loved it. This one seems more durable and everything is easy to understand and access. Excellent choice for the money. Love it.

Exactly what I was looking for

By Mark F. from Nashville TN
Music Background: Keyboard player

Had an old 1202 for a long time. This thing is a different size and shape but has decent effects and input options.

Lightweight and easy to use. I am not moving it around much but so far .. all good and sturdy.

Pretty good, but have 2.

By Jim S. from New York
Music Background: Solo artist

The cost of this board is reflective of it's dependability. I use them about 5-6 gigs a week in the summer. It has the Mackie sound that you love, but channels WILL FAIL on this board at any given time, and it is NOT REPAIR FRIENDLY, meaning you will probably need to buy a new one (or another brand), instead of getting it repaired, most likely, and most likely after an expired warranty. I'll give it another chance, but the writer of this review is getting wary of Mackie products.

Not a Disappiontment

By Dennis A. from California

I have been using for my solo work a Fender Acoustasonic 150. Its been an excellent amp for just myself, using one mic and guitar. I wanted to add another vocalist or two, plus I wanted to begin recording. This is the reason for the Mackie purchase.

I am only in the early stages of using the Mackie, but initially I am extremely pleased. I am using one mic for vocal and one guitar. I am channeling it all into a Peavey powered speaker. I do like the sound I get from using the FX presets on the Mackie. I've settled on #4 for most of my use. The sound that I get from this set-up is far superior than the Fender. I won't toss the Fender in the trash. It has other uses. Especially if I want to got lighter. My Peavey powered speaker weighs as much as a grizzly bear, so the Fender will still see some use. However, I cannot do any recording on the Fender. I am still looking forward to using the USB to record to the computer. The provided software does look like there is going to be a steep learning curve. Eventually, I believe it will all work out. Especially if the recorded sound is as great as doing the live gig sound.

I am not disappointed in my purchase. I would highly recommend this product. I was on the fence as to whether I should get the 12 channel over the 8. I didn't want to over buy. My general use is one vocal and one guitar. At most, adding another vocal or two. So, the 8 channel is my choice at this time.

The price doesn't require mortgaging the house, so, I'm not out much if I find the gold mine has played out.

Headphone monitoring

By Sweetwater Customer

This is my third version of this mixer. Sadly the last two have a major flaw, in my opinion. The headphone monitor is just the raw signal without EQ or Effects. This is a real looser in my applications.

Mackie ProFX8v2

By Sweetwater Customer

Great little unit. High quality, enough routing options, very compact. My only complaint is that I can't adjust the preset effects to my liking, but I'll live with it.

A Good Way To Go

By Sweetwater Customer from SW Colorado

I bought this unit to use with my light duty rig and it has been a good way to go. Unlike some Mackie offerings, it is straight ahead and easy to use. Just plug in, set your levels and go to work. It has the features needed for performing, but not a lot of extras that you don't really need taking up pages in the user manual. The on-board effects are adequate - not great, but they can be bypassed and the effects sent to an outboard unit if desired. The mic preamps are not as good as the Mackie Onyx preamps but the sound is still better than other units in this price range.

A very user friendly and functional little mixer. Well worth considering.

My Mackie ProFX8

By Jason M. from 37398
Music Background: Small band

Got mine a few weeks ago. It is a great mixer and the only problem I seem to have is a static feedback off the mixer to the amps. But other than that I love it.

Works great....when it's working :-(

By Tom from NJ

I originally bought the ProFX8 (previous version) on 5/1/15. Used it for a handful of gigs in May and June. The mixer was treated with the utmost of care, always kept either in its original packaging or the ProFX8 specific bag. On 7/8/15 I'm setting up for another gig and suddenly the two hybrid channels (3/4, 5/6) are on the fritz. Channel 5/6 is nothing but white noise. Channel 3/4 is making noise as well and the gain knob is scratchy and intermittently goes completely silent - ALL THIS WITH NOTHING PLUGGED INTO THE MIXER!

To Mackie's credit, they quickly send out a replacement unit and actually "upgrade" me to the ProFX8v2 (since the ProFX8 is now obsolete.) The "v2" is seemingly the same exact thing aside from different mic pre-amps and fancy colors. I unpack the brand new replacement and plug it into my speakers to test each channel. Channel 3/4 is having the same problem! Scratchy, inconsistent gain knob with noise akin to a helicopter in flight. Again - nothing plugged into the unit. A power source problem perhaps? Definitely not since all of the other channels functioned fine. This is definitely a quality problem on Mackie's side.

Again, to Mackie's credit, they are sending me a replacement vs. having it serviced. But they've also warned me that this is the last replacement I'll receive. If I have the same problem again I will need to take it to a service center for repair. This time around I may just keep it factory sealed and sell it online.

I made a fatal flaw and bought this from my local retailer instead of buying from Sweetwater. As a result I'm stuck. My local retailer doesn't care that the product they sold me stopped working 2 months after I bought it. They have a firm 15 day return policy, and I didn't buy their extended warranty. Had I bought this from Sweetwater I'm 100% certain that I'd already have a replacement product I'm satisfied with.

Two lessons learned:

1) Always buy from Sweetwater. If you have an emergency and must buy from your local retailer, return the product the next day and then order it from Sweetwater.

2) Don't buy the Mackie ProFX8v2.
