Ludwig helped pave the way for non-wood drum kits in the 1970s - first with the Plexiglas Vistalite series in '72, and again with the stainless-steel Pro Beat series around '75. The Pro Beat Stainless Steel reproduction shell pack is your chance to rediscover this Ludwig relic. The bass and toms are traditionally sized and made from 1.5mm hand-rolled steel. These two features generate an incredible amount of warmth and character from behind the kit. Toms are tough and deep without coming across balloon-y. And the kick drum is downright explosive, with a level of sustain that comes straight out of Zeppelin's IV. When the first stainless-steel Pro Beats were released, all the shells had to be made in-house. Each drum was rolled from 1.5 milimeters of stainless steel, then welded and drilled by hand. Today's Pro Beat Stainless Steels honor this tradition with their hand-rolled steel shells. Pro Beat kits are available in two finishes: a traditional polished finish with a mirror luster, and a contemporary brushed finish for a more sumptuous, subtle look.
The Pro Beat series: part of the Ludwig LegacySince 1909, Ludwig has enjoyed one of the proudest legacies in percussion, and its name evokes fond memories here among Sweetwater's many drummers.
