Behringer P2 Ultra-Compact Personal In-Ear Monitor Amplifier Reviews

In-ear Monitor Powered Amplifer with XLR/TRS Combo Input and 3.5mm TRS Headphone Output

The Powerplay P2 is the powered successor to Behringer's PM1 personal in-ear monitor amp. The P2 delivers clear audio right to your in-ear monitors with the signal boost of an active amplifier, and it can run up to 12 hours on two AAA batteries (not included). This powerful belt- or strap-worn in-ear amp is specially designed for musicians and performers whose instruments require stationary play. Every part of the P2 is engineered to withstand the rigors of the road, from the smooth rotary volume control to the overbuilt metal enclosure and belt clip. Sweetwater reviewers were impressed with the locking XLR/TRS combo input, which helps keep foot traffic and stage mishaps from disconnecting your monitor source. The Behringer Powerplay P2 uses a standard 3.5mm output jack to drive in-ears, headphones, or earbuds, and it even features an internal switch for selecting mono or stereo use.

Behringer P2 Ultra-Compact Personal In-Ear Monitor Amplifier

By Sweetwater Customer from Hamilton, Ohio on March 15, 2024 Music Background: Gigging Musician.

The Behringer P2 Ultra-Compact Personal In-Ear Monitor Amplifier is fantastic!
Hardy and sturdy construction, simply works as it should, easy battery access and exchange.

One negative, is that it is made in China.
This could be Manufactured anywhere else; Britain, Germany, Japan, Canada, USA, etc.

Behringer P2 In Ear Personal monitor amp

By Michael Pagano from New York on February 16, 2024 Music Background: Pro guitarist/ bassist for over 40 years.

This is a great product. It works flawlessly and has a volume control. Our lead singer loves it! It is loud and clear and has great tone. Inexpensive and very useful. We replaced an expensive unit with this for a fraction of the cost. I have since purchased three more of these units. We use them for both rehearsals and gigging.

Outstanding solution for wired IEM

By Dan Nobles from Bonneau, SC on January 11, 2024

Got this to take my drummer IEM as the drummer doesn't need a wireless solution. In the past I had used a P1 for drummers but I had given way that unit to a drummer that was moving on and really like it. One problem with the P1 unit is simple it's size. If you want "true" Stereo mix it's a great option but takes up a good bit of space if you really only need mono. This basically jsut like one side in a much smaller foot print. Work great, the only possible draw back it, it' it will get really crazy loud. More so that I think is safe but as long as you use it with some sense, maybe setup a limiter on the Mix/aux you are using for it, it's a outstanding unit and cheap to boot!

Hard Wired

By Philip from Texas on January 9, 2024 Music Background: Sound Engineer

Cost effective and dependable.... Yes you do need batteries but these babies will get the job done.... When the bands I provide sound for do not have any wireless IEM, I provide these and saves me a lot of headaches on having to worry about feedback....

Great for wired IEM.

By Dan Nobles from Bonneau, SC on December 21, 2023

Great unit if you need a mono wired IEM setup. Gets really really loud, so careful setting levels. Nice metal case feels like it will hold up a bit of abuse and sounds great. With the size and clip really easy to find a place to put this or just clip on your belt.

PS-2 Personel in-ear monitor amplifier

By Sweetwater Customer from AZ on December 18, 2023

I was not sure if in-ear monitors were right for our band, so we tried the economically priced PS-2 system to try it out. Wow, what a difference the PS-2 worked perfectly. No need for more expensive system.

By Michael Pagano from Astoria New York on September 13, 2023 Music Background: Professional guitarist/ bassist for over 40 years

I love this piece of gear. It works perfect! The volume knob is great and there are no headaches at all. The sound is nice and clear. I prefer this to my Sennheiser wireless unit as there are no issues at all. Excellent for live performances and rehearsal. Beautifully functional, very inexpensive and does the job excellently. I have three of these and will buy a few more. The whole band uses them. It isn't wireless but the connection is perfect. A great solution to a tricky problem. I gig extensively and it just works great. Special thank to Drew my Sweetwater sales rep. He is the best. I love doing business with Sweetwater.

Operates as advertised. I find nothing wrong with it. Get your mix adj your volume, it's that simple. A very good way to break into using in-ear monitor. Later May move into wireless but then shelling out a lot of money. This is you best solution. Inexpensive and works.

Sounds GREAT

By Travis Tad Russell from Rogersville on May 31, 2023

Plenty of headroom. Sounds great! Great alternative to using the P16's. Just have everyone download MX-Q (iPhone) or Mixing Station (Android) and each person have total control of their own mix!

I have 9 of these!

By Travis Tad Russell from Rogersville on May 26, 2023

I've used these and the p16m with Ethernet. Both are good. Using these allow each person to use an app on their phone to control. We currently use 9 of these and prefer these over the p16m.

Great piece of equipment

By steve morris from Spring Lake NC on April 28, 2023

This was our first venture from floor wedges to in ear monitors. Bought 6 of these for our crew. Have nothing bad to say. Installation was easy, the pieces are metal and pretty rugged, and works exactly how they are supposed to. A great buy for the price. So glad we gave these a shot.

Big difference from the P1

A friend suggested I try the P2. I already owned a P1 but struggled with the mixes and the volume output. The active amplifier makes a huge difference. I highly recommend it.

Behringer P2 IEM Amplifier

By Brad from Charlotte, NC on March 9, 2023

I bought and used a P1 for about a year and my band decided to go with in-ear monitoring. I am also using the Behringer X Air XR-18 Digital Mixer and needed an inexpensive IEM solution for the whole band. I continue to use my P1 but bought a P2 for our bass player to try. Works marvelously (unless you leave the unit on after using it - then it will use up the battery pretty quickly). So now, our XR-18 has 6 Aux Outs and we have 5 of them going to each band member. Some use the better IEM earbuds (like Westone, Shure, etc) and others are just using the cheapest ear buds they can grab, but everyone agrees that having the iPhone app to create their own mixes is very liberating. We even use a room mic to pick up room ambience so anyone can mix some of that into their own personal mixes. I've since bought several more just to use in my home studio for the occasional jams. Wife happy, neighbors happy, and everyone else is happy too! Great product!

Great sound, robust build and compact size.

By Robert Kaye from Jacksonville, FL on November 30, 2022

Excellent product. Easy to use and sounds wonderful. I'm using it with a 6-string bass guitar with a detuner on the B-string, and it easily handles the low A. Read the instructions carefully and look at the diagram in the owner's manual ... the switch from stereo to mono is inside the metallic chassis and is quite small, yet easy to adjust once located.

Amazing Little Device

By Don from Pensacola, FL on June 14, 2022 Music Background: Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist, Recorder & Home Producer, Musician

Recommended to me by my awesome Sweetwater Sales Engineer - Daniel Rivera-Tre. Splendid little device that does exactly what it promises in making in-ear monitoring for tracking and recording so much better when using either in-ear monitors or headphones. Simply route headphones or in-ear monitors through this device and set Max Volume on audio interface. Then turn on and adjust volume via the P2. Features a belt/pocket clip and works extremely well. Requires battery as an active listening device, but battery life seems really good thus far. Keeps my headphone and/or other cords out of the way while recording or tracking with guitar and mics.

Great and Simple IEM Device

By Sweetwater Customer on May 12, 2022 Music Background: Professional Percussionist

I use this with my behringer xr 18 and a wireless guitar 1/4" system from the aux out and it works wonders for my vocalist. Getting the volume needed is no problem and there is next to none latency. I use rechargeable batteries and can easily swap them out mid rehearsal/performance if needed but the battery life has yet to be an issue for me.

It works well

By Randy Edgar Wall from TX on December 21, 2021 Music Background: Full time studio/live musician; primarily keys and vocals

This P2 and IEMs is a great alternative to using an amp on stage. 1/4" and XLR makes it compatible with any system.

The batteries can dislodge but not during performance. The housing for the device could be a little sturdier, but overall I like mine very much.

Works great, just what I've been looking for!

Very pleased

By Keven from Murray, Utah on December 6, 2021 Music Background: I've been playing drums in bands for about 35 years.

Great product. Good solid construction. Options for XLR or 1/4" inputs are great! I play drums and I leave this amp on the floor and have a longer, lighter earbud cable that runs down my back to this amp on the floor. The rating show 12 hour battery life. I have the volume set about half way up and I'm way over 12 hours on one set of batteries. I keep spare batteries with me just in case...

Perfect !!

Perfect little amp

By Michael Roy Jr. on August 26, 2021 Music Background: 40 year drummer, sound engineer, producer

What can I say? This little headphone amp is perfect in every way. The church I was playing for used the non powered version on this but it had absolutely no headroom. With the volume maxed, it still didn't get loud enough. With this P2, I have so much more headroom. In fact, I can only turn the volume knob to about 4 before it gets too loud. The attached clip works great on my pocket or belt area even without a belt. The indicator light is in the perfect location to quickly see that it's on. The sound is very clean as well. There isn't anything I would change about this amp.

Behringer p2

By Shawn Semmel from PA on August 24, 2021 Music Background: Drummer and song writer

Being a drummer and having to be direct wired to the monitor channel this compact ear monitor amplifier gives me total volume control over the mix being delivered and not get blown out of my chair. The only real issue that could possibly arise is if you fail to change batteries in between sets.

Great IEM fix for the money

By Dan from Northern IN on July 28, 2021 Music Background: Live Sound, bass, guitar, keys

Doing sound systems for churches, we needed a portable IEM solution for them when they were outside away from their normal P16 setups. We purchased 4 of these and quickly added 4 more, setting them on the dual mono settings and giving each person their own aux for a monitor mix. Even though each mix had to be individually set up, the P2s worked like a charm, had plenty of volume, and have continued to function for several churches at many events this summer. Great items for the cost, and didn't have to run wedges or deal with stage volume.

Exactly what I wanted

By Rocky from South Carolina on July 26, 2021 Music Background: Several years drumming at Church and local blues/classic rock bands.

I play drums in a gigging band (local bars and such) and have a hard time hearing the guitar and vocal without really cranking up my monitor. This IEA amp was exactly what I needed! It works as advertised with plenty of headroom on the volume, I can get a good mix of what I want to hear when I play. The input from the mixer can be 1/4 inch or XLR cable and it hooks to my pants where everything stays out of the way. I bought a pair of KZ in ears to go with it so with still a small amount of money invested, I'm very satisfied!

Great in-ear monitor amp!

Wedge monitor replacement

By Dan from Northern IN USA on July 20, 2021 Music Background: Sound, bass, guitars , keys.

I was contracted to do sound for several churches this year doing outdoor services for the summer. All of them were used to using IEMs normally, so we needed a quick solution for this outside. We started by purchasing 4 units and quickly purchased 4 more finding these were the perfect fix for the need. We set the units for dual mono so all we had to do was plug in an XLR line from an aux send for each person and then supply an IPad for them, or have an engineer dial each of their mixes. Once set, no one complained, all had plenty of volume, and were perfectly content with their mix, plus we didn't need to run any powered monitors for anyone, saving us a lot of time and power. This has happened repeatedly now with several churches, and we are very happy with the outcome. Our system is based on a Mackie DL32R, which works great with these. Highly recommend for a quick wired IEM system inexpensively.

Nice unit

By Rick Matousek from Cleveland on July 9, 2021 Music Background: Pro

I opted to use IRMs to reduce our stage volume. Since I remain seated while playing, I didn't need to go wireless but still needed something to receive my monitor mix from
Our sound tech. This Behringer unit is just right. XLR from the board in, and my In ears take the signal from there. My Sweetwater rep Josh Kattner got this to me fast, quick, and in a hurry. You cannot believe how great he is, he's become a trusted friend and is a big reason I can sound this good. Keyboards, amps, mixers, stands etc….. all came from Sweetwater through Josh.

Behringer P2 IEM amplifier

By Randy Storms from Ohio on July 4, 2021 Music Background: Capitol U music major early 70s, piano, Tuba, guitar/guitar/guitar, Rock, Fusion, Jazz, Orchestra

This sturdy little package is a great solution for IEM use if you don't need to roam around the stage. I use it for rehearsals and use a different IEM wireless system for gigs. Our drummer and bass player are also now using a P2 for their IEMs. Be CAREFULL! This little beast can get LOUD!

Great pre-amp

By randall Harris from RI on June 25, 2021 Music Background: Semi-pro musician

Simple, well thought out ergonomics. Quiet pre-amp in a compact package. Handy belt\strap clip. ON\OFF switch on volume control is a big plus.

Just what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer on June 24, 2021

Worked perfectly out of the box as I would expect. Great size and weight. The clip was large enough to clip to my guitar strap and run my in ears. Plenty of amplification from the batteries so that's not an issue. My only gripe is that removing the casing to change batteries results in an ear splitting screech as the metal and finish rub against the sides of the pcb inside. All things considered that's a very small thing to complain about. The biggest issue is that it was out of stock for over a month when I first began to look for one. Glad to have found one finally in stock at Sweetwater.

Best in Class!

By Johnny T on June 9, 2021 Music Background: Drums

I did a ton of research before buying this P2. Behringer is miles above any of its competitors with this particular unit! After reading several reviews online, asking my musician buddies, and my own personal experience, nothing else comes close in performance and quality.

Solid and Reliable!

By Sweetwater Customer on June 7, 2021

We just played a 102 degree gig, and while some of my bandmates wireless packs were overheating, my P2 kept my mix consistently fed to my in-ears. It's easy to change batteries, and the volume adjustment isn't flimsy. I highly suggest purchasing one even for a backup!

Love the thing!

Great for in ear monitoring - cheaper than wireless and the batteries last a long time!

By Mark Smith from New Mexico on February 12, 2021 Music Background: semi- pro musician

I have had a P2 over the last six months and still haven't needed to change the batteries! I used it for my single act, and liked it so much I bought a spare to let my band mate use, and he bought one for himself! I get clear sound using my Westone in ears, and both the stereo and mono modes work well. The only thing to watch for is that the batteries sometimes slip out of the holder, and you simply open it up and pop them back in. Great unit and a great price!

Great Inexpensive Stage Monitor Option

By Brian Smith from Faith Encounter Church on December 7, 2020 Music Background: Drumming for for almost 30 years, both semi professionally and as a worship drummer for more than 20 years

We utilize several of these for our praise team. They are a fantastic alternative to expensive in-ear systems or loud floor wedges. Everyone gets a personal monitor mix with a simple xlr cable from our stage box and the only stage volume we have is the strum of the acoustic guitars.

Affordable and easy to use

By Sweetwater Customer on October 18, 2020 Music Background: Worship musician

I've had the privilege of using the P2 for a little over a week now and I have no complaints. This device does exactly what it's meant to; provide a monitoring system that's cheap and useable. All I had to was run an XLR to our transmitter and connect the other end to the P2. It is that easy. I now have access to hearing my acoustic when running to the FOH. My only inconvenience is the clip. It feels as if it were made out of aluminum. Once again, it is just an inconvenience. Only time will tell the duration of the clip.

Works as advertised

By Sweetwater Customer from Newark Delaware on September 3, 2020

Works as advertised. I'm a little concerned with the position of the volume knob which seems easily sheared off but I suppose for the money it is what it is.

Best Bang for the Buck!

By Robert from Virginia on February 3, 2020

After looking at wireless IEMs and their associated costs, buying one of those options was not looking good. That's when I ran in to the Behringer P2 while browsing through Sweetwater's site. After doing some investigative homework - mostly reading reviews on the internet, I thought I would order one to try out with for our band.

So after spending... on the P2… a XLR/1/4 inch cable, and… some Chi-Fi IEMs, we were ready to roll. After setting up our board and doing a small EQ mix for one of or monitor channels, I was blown away by its usefulness and price-to-entry. Sounded great, easy to use, and it was cheap! Now I could hear exactly what I wanted to hear, kept volume levels down in my ears, and made it easier to sing. After letting the rest of the band try them out, they were convinced, and we ended up buying 3 more setups.

Now there is one downside to the P2, but it really isn't major problem for us, and that's the cable. You now have an extra cable to pack and have spares, and it's hard to run around the stage. So if you're good with mostly staying in your spot, you should be good to go.

Bottom line, if you need or want an IEM setup and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is the way to go!

Very satisfied !

Behringer P2 Ultra-Compact Personal In-Ear Monitor Amplifier

By Juan from Tucson, AZ on October 8, 2019 Music Background: Live musical entertainment and studio recording enthusiast

Amazing IEM head amp! The Behringer P2 is a game changer as it brings value to the table and does not compromise quality. I purchased 6 of these units and went 100% IEM's in my band, my guys are amazed at the clarity we have and love the experience! Stage volume is no longer an issue and dynamics are now something we actually have. The Behringer P2 can be run in Stereo or Mono, combined with a pair of KZ or CCA earbuds you cannot go wrong! I highly recommend this solution! I actually have 3 more on order so that we can go 100% IEM's in another project band, we are super stoked!

Pros:

- Rugged Light weight and compact construction
- AAA rechargeable batteries work great
- Easily switch from Stereo to Mono
- Plenty of headroom
- Balanced XLR or TRS connection
- Low battery indicator
- No screwdriver required to change batteries
- Clips on to your belt or instrument strap

Cons:

- No stereo panning knob
- No VDC connection for AC power adapter

Keep in mind that stereo panning can be done on your AUX mix assuming you are running stereo to the head amp. The only disadvantage with not having a left/right input along with a panning trim knob like the P1 is you cannot run two different sources like a click track and your instrument or vocal in the cases where you want the performer to have the ability to quickly adjust on the head amp. But again, this can be done on a app on your iPhone or tablet if you have the right console!

My hats off to Behringer, you hit it out of the park! Also, shout out to my sales engineering Kevin Samuel for always taking care of us.

Behringer P2 Ultra Compact Persnal In-Ear Monitor

By Sharon from Dawsonville, GA on September 11, 2019 Music Background: violinist and singer

I am a singer and violinist and use accompaniment tracks for performances. This in-ear monitor works great to help me hear my accompaniment, violin and voice at the same time. I can adjust the volume as I need it on the P2 and my husband has no trouble connecting and adjusting volumes on my voice, violin and soundtrack through our sound system. It gets the job done and is economical in price. I did purchase more expensive professional ear buds to use with the P2 but I think it would work fine with any earbuds or headset.

Perfect for this drummer.

By Doug from Massachusetts on April 26, 2019 Music Background: Drummer, singer

Am VERY happy with this little jewel. It does EXACTLY what I need. It's simple, rugged and reliable. Easy to change batteries and there's no screws to lose when you do. Sound quality is fine with my hybrid driver KZ in-ear monitors. I'm a drummer and sing, so having wired in-ears through this unit is perfect for me. FWIW, I've also used it plugged into my bass and keyboard so I can practice silently using my in-ears; worked just fine for that.

Solves Quiet Night-Time Pactice & Wired IEM...Cheap

By Jim from CA on March 26, 2019

For the lunch money, you ain't risking much. However you're going to be pleasantly surprised. IT HAS A MONO/STEREO SELECTOR SWITCH INSIDE THE UNIT. It takes a single XLR or a single TRS input, so I use an cable with a stereo-wired male XLR plug at the P2 to two (L/R) 1/4" standard male plugs at my Fractal AX8. This thing is stupid simple and sounds fantastic whether using cheap phone buds or your high-end pro in-ears.

Just what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer from GA on February 14, 2019 Music Background: Old and busted but still rocking the stages!

For the price this is perfect! Was sick of not hearing myself on stage. Every sound guy is different. Some will cater to the bass player in the monitor some won't. This is my back up solution to a FOH sound guys that just sucks! Mic the amp and DI out to the IEMS! Go cheap go Behringer! Yet to be disappointed for the price.

great little IEM amp

By Sweetwater Customer on July 18, 2018

Don't think you could ask for anything more in a basic IEM amp! Small form factor means it sits unobtrusively on your belt, and the combo input is something that is not easy to find at this price point and in this size range. Great audio quality... I certainly can't detect any added/unwanted noise from it vs a straight phones connection to my mixer. Seems very well built, and I doubt I could harm it when I get up from my kit and start to walk away while forgetting to unplug (which I'm sure to do at some point). Haven't fully tested the battery life yet, but if it gets the 12 hours as promised, I will be very happy.

Fantastic, simple, perfect for rehearsal

By Lee from Seattle on April 28, 2018 Music Background: 27 year hobbyist player

Love this. Was using a Shure PSM300 wireless rig for rehearsals, and that was fine, but I kept burning through AA batteries (I'd get about 1.5 rehearsals on a set). So far, I've probably played 6 rehearsals (3 hours each) on the first set of batteries and no sign of them dying yet. The sound this outputs is pretty good, and it has more than enough volume to enable me to hear everything. I'm playing (bass) and singing so in ears are really helpful for me. I'll save the wireless (and the batteries) for shows and keep using this at rehearsal. Love that it has a combo TRS/XLR connector, but as others have said, go with the XLR for no other reason than the locking function. It's very easy to step on the cable and pull the TRS out of the thing in the middle of a song, and that's not fun. Another reviewer mentioned that the clip isn't that sturdy and could break and that it's not replaceable. He's right, those are true statements, but given the cost/value/sound of this thing, I'm willing to live with that. You can always glue or duct tape or otherwise affix a clip on it some other way if you do break yours.

I just wish that Behringer would step up their manufacturing. I ordered this from SW and another one from another place when they were first announced, and it took months to get mine from SW and the other site still hasn't sent mine. I know that the initial delay between product announcement and shipping is notoriously long in the Pro Audio segment, but once something starts shipping, the channel usually remains open. This must be so popular (and cheap) that people (like me) want to have several of them to run monitors, etc. It's a great unit, well worth the wait, but if you were in a pinch, you could get the P1 for $ more... but this is so compact and perfect...

Better Than Expected.

By Sweetwater Customer on April 24, 2018

This thing works great. And even though it says the batteries will only last for 12 hours of use, I've been using the same set of lithium AAA's in it for over 27 hours now!! Pretty amazing.

Solo gigging can be a challenge

By OSCAR BUTLER from New Mexico on November 24, 2017

I am so impressed with this product. I have purchased two before this from different companies. The first one required a 9-volt battery which was fine until the flimsy wire to the battery connector broke. The second was similar to the Behringer but it required no power source so was never able to get enough volume unless I pushed the gain on my PA way up but then I had to lower the channel volume which brought about other problems. The Behringer has a power source so it gives me the in-ear volume that I need even when I am in close proximity to a noisy crowd. It is slim and lightweight and only requires 2 AAA batteries which are easily installed inside of the unit by pressing a button on the side to slide the guts of the unit out revealing the battery slots. It is all housed in a strong metal casing with a belt clip (also metal). I run an XLR from my PA monitor output to the female XLR input (which will also take a 1/4 inch cable input) at the bottom of the unit. It has an XLR push button cable lock so there are no worries of the cable accidentally falling out. This has been a lifesaver for me and so much easier than having to cart around powered monitor. Lord knows I carry enough equipment already!

Reasonably priced personal monitor for IEMs

By DoubleDog Recording from Round Rock, TX on January 4, 2024 Music Background: live/session drummer. recording engineer

The P2 is a reasonably priced personal monitor for IEMs and worked well for me. I originally (mistakenly) tried to use the P1, but it does not work with line-level outputs, such as the Aux ports on the XR16 and XR18 (and that's what I used the P2 with). I'm sitting at the drums so a wired pack is no problem for me (but if you are a guitar player you might prefer a wireless pack). I got plenty of volume with a set of Shure SE215's and the drums and bass sounded full (although I replaced the foam tips with silicone tips on the IEMs). I would have given 5 stars, but I noticed a little noise (white noise/hiss) when the volume was up and also got some interference (from cell phone as that is what I was using to control the X-Air app) so it could be shielded better perhaps.

Works great, but one silly flaw

By Brandon from Kentucky on August 10, 2023 Music Background: electric bass, acoustic guitar

Considering it's a headphone amp, it does a perfect job. Battery lasts a long time and I get a very wide volume range. The one flaw is that the clip to attach to belt or strap is comically flimsy for an otherwise very robust product. I clipped it on my belt for the first time and as I picked up my bass, I lightly brushed against the bass cab and it twisted the bracket out of shape. It's so thin, I bent it back the best I could, but it would never fit quite as tight as intended and sort of bobbled around. That said, I was given an unprovoked call by SW customer service and I told them about the bracket flaw and they sent me a replacement bracket in 1 day. SW, by far, has the best customer service I've ever experienced.

Behringer P2 Ultra compact Personal IEM Amplifier

By Mark M from East Haven, Ct on May 24, 2023 Music Background: Drummer

Great piece of equipment as a drummer did not need to go wireless and this product was great clip on shorts or belt has volume control and on/off switch. Plus into mixer and you're good. Also wasn't sure what I needed to hear my IEM and Sweetwater steered me in exactly what was needed. Not worth going anywhere else for music accessories.

They Work!

By Bradley McCarty from Monticello Indiana on June 23, 2022 Music Background: Worship Pastor

The P2 works great for personal in ear mixing on a budget with the X32 using the X32 mix app for apple products and the Mixing Station app for Android. It has some disadvantages and some benefits compared to the P16. Biggest advantage being price! It seems to be pretty durable although we have not used them for very long yet. If you drop it the batteries do tend to get knocked loose causing a bit of a panic at first until you realize that's what's happened. I also have a tendency to get caught and bend the belt clip out. But it bends right back into place.

Does what it’s supposed to

By Cbusser on June 10, 2022

Solid build, good price. A little on the noisy side but otherwise decent bang for the buck.

Terrific peice of gear

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on February 20, 2022

This is a relatively inexpensive way to utilize in ear monitors without breaking the bank.
My only quibble with it is that the TRS cable can get disconnected rather easily (I keep stepping on it), I wish it could lock in like an XLR cable. But if you're seated while performing, you're going to do just fine.

Does its job well

By Ron from WV on December 9, 2021

I play with a church group that includes at least one other guitarist, bass, two keyboards, and drums to accompany the singers. If I don't have this personal monitor and my ear buds, I cannot hear myself loud enough from the onstage monitors to know if I am playing the right notes. It has no tone controls, but I leave most of that in the hands of the sound guys at the back of the building who control the mix. This is just for me to hear me.

Works Very Well

By Dean from Louisville, KY on November 29, 2021 Music Background: Audio Engineer

We had some really old wireless packs and they were starting to have issues with drop-outs. Did not want to spend >$1000 to get 2 units replaced, so we gave this a shot. They were used for a Trumpet and Trombone player. No much movement from these guys... so we could go wired.
After the first gig, the Trumpet player stated "no drop outs, plenty of volume... and no headaches for the first time in a long time". That's awesome. He said dealing with the XLR cable was only a minor inconvenience but worth it.

Love it

By Sweetwater Customer on April 29, 2019

I have gone through some chemo and radiation treatments, and unfortunately my voice in result got thinner so I lose my key. This device helps me to tone things back. It is nicely designed and manufactured. If there is any I can ask is I wish the volume can be a little stronger for some occasions.

Good bang for buck!

By Figaro from Nashville on April 1, 2019 Music Background: Engineer

I bought a handful of these to use when an artist shows up with ears but the client didn't pay/arrange for them. I use active monitors, so I just pop out the XLR from the speaker and go right into the P2. It's great for reducing stage volume wherever possible. Audio comes through cleanly without any noticeable noise. I will say that 2 of my 4 units have started to have a little bit of rattle to them... I'll need to check out the hardware and see what I can do. Overall definitely worth the price!

Simple and effective, but breakable

By Sweetwater Customer on April 21, 2018 Music Background: professional musician, songwriter

This perfectly solves my monitoring problems. No hassle with wireless transmitters or interference. However, I have just about broken the belt clip off after three shows because I keep forgetting I'm wearing it, so I try to walk off the stage with the XLR cable still attached. I bent the clip to almost a 90 degree angle last night doing the same thing again, and I was able to bend it mostly back into place but now I'm afraid the clip will snap off from metal fatigue. There is no way to replace just the clip. I love the unit for helping me save my ears and to keep stage volume down with a near no-brainer setup, but I wish that either the clip were stronger or replaceable.

Not perfect, but a great unit.

By Upright Pete from California on October 24, 2017 Music Background: Upright bass. Acoustic, Americana, Bluegrass, Gypsy, Jazz.

This unit is much more versatile than the similar looking Behringer PM1. It's worth the extra $10 to get powered amplification and mono/stereo options. It's also far more compact and belt-wearable than Behringer P1.

The P2 is best used in conjunction with a monitor output (or pair of outputs) from a mixer. There is not enough amplification to take mic or instrument 1/4" input directly on stage, i.e. via a splitter or DI box. If you have active pickups or an on-stage preamp then you might get just enough volume to use it this way.

Requires a specially soldered Y-adapter to convert a pair of balanced XLR monitor outputs (L/R) to unbalanced stereo. To do this, I bought a simple Hosa Y-cable and spent about 5 minutes re-soldering the connections.

While the unit will accept 1/4" TRS stereo input, you lose the benefit of the locking XLR connector, which is a nice feature.

Feels nice and compact worn on the belt.

Great little monitor system

By David Gooley from South Dakota on October 14, 2017

I play numerous instruments and sing depending on what group I'm involved with. Having been incolved in to audio side as well I know lower stage volume is key... especially monitor feedback. This allows me to hear what I need in the mix while playing and moving around. It has a lot of power so be judicious on starting volume. Also use a good pair of in ear monitors to get the most out of it. I use westone dual driver in ears. Only downfall is some monitor cables are nl4 not xlr! Just get an adapter and roll with it!

Works great; gets the job done

By Greg from New York, NY on July 26, 2023 Music Background: Drums, Piano

This product works as advertised. The powered unit adds plenty of gain, and sounds crystal clear. There's even an internal switch for mono/stereo signal.

You just gotta be careful opening and closing the unit; you end up handling the internal circuit board so you need a steady hand. It's also easy to incorrectly put back together, and all the parts squeak against each other. Other than that, this product works great

Good quality

By Sweetwater Customer on June 28, 2023

Good quality, for price is a good option.

Great value

By Larry on December 19, 2022

I've been using a Shure wireless IEM system for years and wanted a backup. Since I am a drummer, I thought I would try a hard-wired system. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and there is plenty of headroom on the volume. Still working on where to place it on my belt (or some place else) where it is comfortable with the drum throne. The only reason I'm not giving it the highest rating is that I haven't had it very long and actual battery life and unit durability are still to be determined. Still, for the money it seems hard to beat.

In-Ear Monitor Amp

The Behringer P2 seems to be doing it's job no complaints here.

Behringer P2 IEM

By Sweetwater Customer on November 29, 2021

While the product works great, the problem is that when using them, you become ultra-sensitive to your voice and instrument and therefore tend to sing lighter and play lighter. This causes the sound to the audience to also become lighter and quieter. Hmmm. so much for trying to save your hearing.
Oh and the customer services at Sweetwater rock!! Thanks Alan Reyes

Great for in ear monitoring - no latency and cheaper than wireless!

By Mark from New Mexico on December 24, 2020 Music Background: semi- pro musician

I have used the P2 in stereo and mono mode for 5 months and am very happy. I used the stereo mode and used the headphone output from my mixer using a stereo quarter inch cable for my single act and it works fine. I looped the cord through the belt clip to keep the cord from pulling out. I got a very clean signal to my Westone in ears. I have also used the mono mode (XLR) with the band I am in and it works fine as well. I have not changed the batteries in 5 months! The only issue is once in a while the batteries slip out of position and you have to open the unit and push them in place again. ...this is a great value and makes in ear monitoring very affordable!

Pretty good - just not for me

By Ron on September 22, 2019 Music Background: 30 yrs bass

Ruggedly constructed, compact, and sounds good (I am using inexpensive KZ AS-10 in-ears). Several members of our church band like the P2. But as the bassist, there's just not quite enough headroom for me. When the band gets rowdy on choruses and I go low, there's nothing left and the amp breaks up. Granted, I'm standing 4 feet away from my drummer, so I'm running a bit louder than some folks might need. But I'll be looking for something with more headroom.

By Brock from Washington State on August 17, 2023

It's a great product, but depending on the main signal send, at times it could use a little more headroom. Overall, satisfied; good investment.

It does what it says but ...

By Dave R from Virginia on October 6, 2022

I had to look through the reviews and see what people were saying about this unit. I've been using one of these for about 4 years now, and I think I have a pretty good take on it. I'm a drummer, so I don't have to move around on stage and don't have the same sort of concerns other, more mobile musicians would have.

The sound quality is good. There is some noise, but about what you would expect from any sort of in ear monitor setup. I've had a few wireless models from major brands and had more noise from them than from this unit. The stereo function works, but requires you to buy a separate cable, and that's a bit of a pain.

The battery life is pretty good. I use rechargeables and haven't run into any problems, even when I forget to bring a fresh set with me for a few gigs. having the option to use a TRS or an XLR is kind of nice although I've rarely used the TRS connection accept when I was using the unit in stereo. The headphone amp provides plenty of power to have your monitors as loud as you'd like

The unit design itself is where it lost some points for me, and probable even more for some other users. If you attach it to your belt, the clip bends easily, and will not go back to its original shape. If it's not treated gently the batteries can pop loose inside causing you to have to open the device and reset them in the carrier. It doesn't have an option for a wired power which can be annoying, but I've gotten used to that part.

I would recommend this to some people, it would depend on their instrument and how much they move on stage. My bassist bought the P1 just because it had a wired power option. The P2 Isn't perfect but it's one of the least expensive entry points into using in ear monitors in a professional environment.

Battery’s pop loose

By Sweetwater Customer on April 7, 2022

If you turn in on and it doesn't light up , chances are the battery is NOT DEAD! Open and you might find that the battery gas popped out of the holder.
Design flaw

Ok but should have a battery level indicator.

By Sweetwater Customer from RI on January 9, 2023

It does the job. It's very square and klunky. The belt clip bends and makes it hard to hold on the the belt. The batteries are easily jostled inside and lose contact. If you jump around on stage you will have trouble.

Behringer need to fix this

By Tim Hardin from Tennessee on August 20, 2021

I bought 2 of these. They are a little bulky but are still manageable. The big issue was the Static. I tried different everything and it would not go away. It wasnt loud but it was there enough to be annoying. I have an Xvive U4 wireless that I connected to the same AUX and it was quiet. Anyway, I returned them. Thanks Josh for the no hassle return.

It works, but...

By Steven Messineo from New Jersey on August 4, 2020 Music Background: Guitarist, Singer. Too many years to admit :-)

This unit does what it says it does: it amplifies your input signal for headphone use. However, it has some pretty serious flaws: (1) the batteries inside sometimes move out of position on their own causing the unit to stop working until you fix that, and (2) the unit slides apart and back together in a somewhat difficult way, (3) the input jack is on the bottom of the unit, so it is easy for the input jack/wire to be pulled out when you're moving around. The 1st & 3rd can be addressed by (1) putting some foam inside the unit up against the side of the batteries, (3) by routing the input cord up and around the unit or putting it in your pocket. However, all of us just want these things to work and work well when we get them, and this does not do that reliably without some tweaking. And even after tweaking the unit is still just fair. However, if you need a few units like this and you have a limited budget, then this may be the ticket since the price is quite good.

Behringer P2 in-ear monitor

By Sweetwater Customer on December 16, 2022 Music Background: Drummer, Producer, Recording Engineer, Tour Manager, Tour Musical Director

The P2 does what it is supposed to do, but it is not the sturdiest of devices—especially for something that is used on the road. The belt clip bends out easily (warping the case connection), and the batteries don't sit well in the compartment. When closing the case after removing/changing batteries, the case hits a circuit board so you need great care to 'bend' it around the board to slide the case back on. To summarize: it works fine, but I'm not sure how long it will ultimately last, and with Behringer's extremely poor (email only) customer service, I would love to find a better alternative for the future.

Awesome unit but one big flaw....

By Josh from Nashville on June 2, 2021 Music Background: Live Sound Pro

I love the way this thing sounds. lots of clean amplification for monitoring on IEMs or even over ear options. My one big issue is that the battery compartment isn't designed well enough. I find myself having to open them up all the time to reseat the batteries. Musicians take them off after use and toss them on the ground. When they do the batteroes shift and lose connection. It's a big pain... I'm currently switching to the Donner headphone amps in hopes they're better.

Not for drummers

By Joe from New York on October 2, 2018 Music Background: Percussion, live sound

Sound is fine - review done.

The clip is flimsy and nearly bent off riding the waist band against the throne. The biggest of issues was the battery popped out between sets and the unit went dead more than once.
