In-ear Monitor Amplifier with Dual Inputs, Mono/Stereo Switch, Volume Control, Balance Control, 1/8" Headphone Output, and Belt Clip

The Behringer Powerplay P1 personal in-ear monitor amplifier puts monitor mix control into your hands. On stage, stop trying to flag down the sound engineer for your monitor mix tweaks. Instead, turn yourself up when needed. If you're a studio engineer, the Powerplay P1's dual inputs put the cue mix in the musician's hands and lets you focus on the main mix. Powered by battery or optional power supply, the level and balance/mix controls give you the tools you need to create your perfect monitor mix. Incredibly useful on stage or in the studio, Behringer's Powerplay P1 personal in-ear monitor amplifier is a budget-friendly solution to your monitoring woes.

good inexpensive bit of kit

By gary from midwest USA on February 5, 2024 Music Background: keyboardist

see video!
works great, especially if you wanna listen to your iPhone with an stereo adapter cable, better sound for the band bus lol
or
use headphone output and hear your keys rig or guitar modeler in full stereo and not lug monitors around.
Works great with just your Apple buds.
If you have one of the pocket size battery powered modeling units that except your phones stereo output, this is an unbelievably good way to practice when you're traveling without having to plug in. I'm volt battery lasts a really long time. And it's quite good sound with no added hissI
Mostly I think people will use it like a drummer would, to hear a wedge feed without having a big monitor blasting them out, but I like these off label uses as a portable great sound amplifier.

Built like a tank!

I use this for IEM on stage and to mix with. Solid unit and dead quite! Plenty of headroom!

Great results.

As a drummer I find that using in-ear monitors is a game changer. The Behringer Powerplay P1 works great for this. Also fast shipping and great customer service from Sweetwater as always.

Works well, easy to use, well built

Happy with this product, good sound reproduction with volume. Capable of mono or stereo. Sturdy build.

Very good

Love this product. It's so good.

great unit

By Sweetwater Customer on November 30, 2022

The Behringer P1 really fits my needs well. I like that the XLR outputs go directly into the unit, unlike the presonus, where you have a lead cable out. The presonus power adapter works well with the Behringer as well.

For me better than onstage monitors

By Kevin Ragsac from Olympia on October 26, 2022 Music Background: Drums for SwitchbackNW

This is a easily controlled device to use on stage. As a drummer, I am not keen on the type of ambient sound on the stage around me, including how the drums sound.
As a big fan of in ear monitors, this gives me control of the the overall volume coming out of the monitors. I'll never go back to on stage monitors.

Singing drummer = IEM is the ONLY legit option

By JB from NY on August 30, 2022

For years I brought my own monitor, placed it on my right side, then took whatever vocal mix the sound guy gave me.
Earplugs + a non-centered monitor + sub-optimal monitor mix = good luck with that
First gig with IEM's was a revelation.
Right input directly from my own mic (don't forget to order a Y-Cable!), left input from the board.
Can adjust the volume AND mix from my hip without even looking down.
Shure 215's plus the Behringer P1 means I'm fully IEM for under $200 including tax.
Stop researching, just click Add2Cart on this Behringer P1 (You can thank me later for getting you back an hour of practice time)
My only regret is not buying a P1 years ago.

Rock band drums and singer

By Sweetwater Customer on August 19, 2022 Music Background: Gigging Rock drummer several years.

After many years I decided to try in ear monitors. We've been using floor monitors. I tried this with my KZ IEMs. It made it very easy to hear all the instruments while lowering the decibels in my ear. Light clipped to my belt and was easy to dial in the volume. Used it in mono mode. I also tried it attached to a short stand behind me with it plugged in. Used a 6 ft phono extension cord to my IEMs. Worked great! Not sure which method I will stick with. I'm a drummer and could not be more pleased. Our singer used one as well on a stand behind her with a phono extension cord. She loved it! It did not impede her singing and dancing. Much less strain on her voice now that she hears better. We are very glad we didn't spend a ton of money for the more expensive IEMs and amps. These work great!

Exceeding expectation

By Doug Green on April 4, 2022 Music Background: Professional

This is a professional level product, both in design and manufacturing quality. The Powerplay P1 provides the necessary controls to make the switch to IEM a pleasure to incorporate. This small, well built unit truly exceeds my expectations!

Simple Intro to IEM's

By J Scott Gavin from Encinitas, CA on December 10, 2021 Music Background: The Thieves About

I had been practicing with over ear headphones for a while and decided to take the plunge into IEM's for the stage. I got the Shure 215's and needed a pack to go with it. Since I can't afford wireless, this allows me to comfortably run the Shure's from the board. Yes, I have a tail when I wander, but I connect it with my guitar cable and it's mostly out of the way.

It works

By John Nasshan from Henderson, Nevada on October 23, 2021 Music Background: Drummer, Percussionist, arranger and copyist

The most important thing this year can do is work. It's simple, its priced right, it's rugged and it works. I recommend it to everyone.

Works great!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 24, 2021

This is a great little IEM amp. Used one for several years on tour with Cirque du Soleil, and just bought one for myself for my own gigs. Solidly built, gets super loud if that's what you need (be careful!), and has great sound quality in my experience. Conveniently switches from mono to stereo, which is super handy for playing in a variety of different bands with different monitor boards (some are small enough and/or have enough aux outs to send everyone a stereo mix, but many don't). A solid choice if you don't need (or can't afford) a wireless in-ear rig.

Great Buy!

By Josh on June 24, 2021 Music Background: Drummer

So far so good! This thing is built to last as long as you aren't rough on equipment! However it's built tough! Great value for what this does. Props on the mic stand option! Power "push" button isn't a deal breaker but in the future maybe upgrade that to a "click" button for those who wear on belt. Even then I wouldn't see why anyone would wear on belt when using an xlr? But that's just my opinion.

In-ear monitors

By Keith from Greensburg Bethel Apostolic Church on March 25, 2020 Music Background: Bass

Easy setup for analog and digital mixers. Have them on all the instruments drums, keyboard, bass and organ they all like them. Low cost easy setup sounds good always for a better all around sound. Most of are sound was coming from the platform now the sound is much better using a Yamaha TF1 and it works awesome with it. Thanks Sweetwater

Bulky, but it's stereo and well-made

So far, the units we have are working perfectly. While I much prefer wireless, these are way more affordable and work exactly as advertised.

Best in ear monitoring system

By Daniel from Los Angeles, California on February 26, 2020 Music Background: Semi-pro Musician; Musical Director.

As a music director & musician, I know how critical it is to hear yourself. I also know how expensive in ear monitoring can get. We use a QSC TouchMix30 in our church, & we bought the necessary accessories for this particular product... This product is well constructed & gets the job done! Great in ear monitoring, with a solid design. I have all my musicians monitoring themselves on this device. It's a great product!

Can't be beat for the price. Works and sounds just as good as more expensive ones. Built very well.

A MUST HAVE FOR LIVE SOUND

By Douglas Ostarch from East Northport, NY on October 14, 2019 Music Background: 30 plus years at FOH, ENG and Field Installations

I picked this unit up for a few reasons. I use this in conjunction with the Behringer CT-100/CT-200 cable testers.that have a tone generator in them. I use both to test equipment and my signal path. Setting up shows I wire up to my stage plot and input list. Then test it using the tone in the cable testers and run it through the system into the house or the monitors. if any issues I use the headphone amp to pick up that tone in the links before the break.
Used the P1 to track signal through a mixing console we picked out of state. Great for testing a snake or in wall cables that go to wall mounted inputs and outputs.
Video Camera guys love them to listen to the mix and feed from FOH.
Simply put, A time and life saver for a small price. Well worth it!

Awesome little headphone amp

By Nate from Logansport, IN on August 7, 2019 Music Background: Pro Musician, Full-time musician and engineer

This thing is incredible and super versatile. Stereo or Mono inputs, the balance control lets you run 2 mono sends and mix the two (super helpful!) or obviously pan between two sides of a stereo mix. Plenty of clean volume on tap, if you have even remotely decent headphones this thing is perfect. Built in mic stand adapter is really nice. Doesn't include power supply, but you probably have a compatible PSU on hand already. Can't recommend enough.

Powerplay P1 P

By Bryan from Columbia City, IN on June 4, 2019 Music Background: 15+ years playing in a Praise Team

This is what I needed for use in our church praise band. I placed this on my guitar pedal board and I run it off of my pedal board power supply. I run a line in from one of our one stage monitors (1/4" to XLR), then I purchased a pair of KZ ZST in ear headphones and an extra 10 feet of headphone line. I can hear everyone's voice and everyone's instrument. I have my own volume control right on the system, now I don't have to strain to hear voices. We are actually going to an all in-ear monitoring system, but I still want to use this if it works with the system. You can change the settings to mono or stereo even if you are only using the LEFT side input. The only problem I have is sometimes I get some static in my ears, but I know that is from the bad monitors we have on stage (at least 20 years old). If you want to hear everything and not strain your budget, this is for you.

Behringer Powerplay P1

By Clay from Houston TX on May 1, 2019 Music Background: Drummer/Producer

Prior to purchasing, my main concern was whether the internal amp was going to be loud enough. My evaluation: Oh Yes. Only a few reviews out there said it was not loud enough. About 1/2 volume is plenty for my 1/2 deaf ears but here is my setup: Shure SE535 IEM, Akai MPC Live, and a high quality input mix from the house mixer. As other reviews have said, the build quality is outstanding.

Perfect IEM Amp

By Glenn Moenich from Strongsville, Ohio on April 15, 2019 Music Background: Drummer

I decided to purchase a very good set of IEM's from Sweetwater. So, I spoke to my Sales Engineer, James Shilliday. He confirmed the Westone AM Pro 30's would be perfect for my needs. Then, he told me about this great little box. I did not know it even existed. Wow, it is perfect. With it, I can get the exact volume I need or if need be, easily shut the IEM's off totally. The box is engineered and made very well. Very solid.
All metal with a very good, strong belt clip. One of the best clips I've seen. Some complained about the battery compartment door. It is plastic and could be better but if you handle it correctly, it is no problem. If you want a very good way to control your IEM's, I believe this to be the BEST way to do it. Thanks James.

I am giving this device 5 stars because it does what I expected it to do. It has a belt clip but I prefer mounting it on a mic stand with an accessory like an On-Stage MY550 and using a 9vdc power adapter.

If you don"t have to move around and can"t spend a bunch of money, there is no way to go wrong .. This thing is well built .. I would recommend buying the power supply though.. The battery will last but better not to chance it ..

Niiiiiiiiiice.

By John Sanders from Aurora,MO on December 8, 2018 Music Background: Guitar,Drums,Bass,Home Studio,Sound Tech for band

Used my Powerplay P1 on a gig last night for really the first time, although I had hooked it up to my XR16 mixer here at the house, which just recently purchasing too. Had it but going and wasn't really impressed with the sound...….flat sounding. I thought well....it's these cheap earbuds I bought at Wally World....not realizing at the moment that you can EQ the mains and the monitors separate....duh. Foward to last nights gig. While setting the rest of bands floor monitors I remembered the EQ monitor thing and when I got to my ear buds......shazam!! Set EQ on those earbuds.....WOW. So clear....could hear everything and everyone.Totally impressed! Trying to talk the rest of band into buying a Powerplay P1 for each of them. Thought maybe the cord would be a little heavy with the belt clip so I mounted to a straight mic stand....so handy, Powerplay could be easily adjusted and with the X AIR APP on a tablet, controls for both were just fingertips away. Oh.....forgot to mention, the Powerplay was a Demo and it was in new shape, along with box, manual, belt clip. Thanks Sweetwater your AWESOME!

Works well as designed

By Gus from Ohio on November 25, 2018 Music Background: Drummer

Works well. It was exactly what I needed as a drummer for inear. Buy the… Power cord. I dont use the belt clip I have on floor with 1/8" female extension. Mono options works well. Design enhancements would be to add multi purpose quarter inch in with xlr. Hopefully will be in an upgrade. Can"t beat it for money.

READ THIS: You're Tethered Anyhow

By Jimmy Riot from Minnesota on November 5, 2018 Music Background: Professional

Everyone's going IEM these days. I was the last old-school holdout & had the only wedge on the stage in both bands, which was pretty cool for a while since I had no other floor monitors to compete with. Next I got some entry-level ear-buds (ZST; they're fine/ok) & was borrowing a Carvin wireless pack (2AA batteries) and sharing a transmitter on mono (L for me, he was R). Sound was spotty. Sometimes things seemed ultra-compressed, scratchy, not great, but at least I joined the modern age.

FFWard now this Behringer P1 sits on my bass amp. I tie/run a headphone extension cord along my guitar cable & plug my IEMonitor earbuds in to that instead of a battery pack. It runs along my instrument cable & then plugs in to the P1 while the guitar cord plugs in to my amp. I send an XLR out of the P1 to the monitor mixer and adjust my mix on my iPhone. SO much better than the wireless pack. No batteries to charge. Sounds so much clearer. And I'm in-ears now...

If you're running a cable to your amp anyway, why not run a headphone cable too right along side it I say.

Great Product.

By Boomer from Oklahoma on November 5, 2018

I'd recommend this product to any person looking for an affordable way to do IEM. In our context, we use it for stationary band members (Bass, Drums) and it works great. I wouldn't recommend this to someone that moves around on the stage because of XLR needed. Other than that it's a great product, but just know it doesn't come with a DC power adapter, but I've used the 9V battery option and it uses very little power and lasts 9ish hours.

Can't wait to hear our PA without monitors on stage!!! thanks guys

Great

By Shubie from Galesburg Illinois on November 20, 2017 Music Background: Many years playing in cover bands, and 12 years as a church worship leader

Granted I already owned a set of Shure earbuds, but this device is a lifesaver, not to mention an ear saver. It helped me eliminate an on stage monitor, plus I can hear my bass and my vocals crystal clear.
Sure you won't be wireless, but…. you'll be happy you did. Oh, spend the extra $10 get a power supply and invest in a headphone extension.

VERY CLEAR AND POWERFUL AMP

By Chuck B from Long Island on October 1, 2017

Got to use this Headphone Amp for the first time this weekend at a gig. I was completely surprised by this small and inexpensive piece of equipment. I hooked one end into an AUX SEND OUT on my mixer with a TRS jack, ant the other end into the amp with an XLR jack. Popped in a 9-volt, clipped it onto my belt, connected my in-ear headphones, turned it on, and smiled from ear to ear. Clear as a bell. And with the volume control, you select your own level. I will never never never use those powered stage monitors again. Stage volume greatly reduced. Better mix coming thru the mains. Great job, Behringer. This amp is the real deal.

Behringer Powerplay P1 Personal In-ear Monitor Amplifier Review

By Rob Prosky on June 1, 2017 Music Background: Professional Drummer

I bought the Behringer Powerplay P1 Personal In-ear Monitor Amplifier for use with monitor earphones. I play the drums in a rock band that has 6 to 10 musicians including horns. We can get loud in some really poor acoustical spaces. The typical wedge floor monitors we hauled around just weren't working for me. Now I have complete control of my own sound! The Powerplay P1 amp can either clip onto my belt or sit beside me. it was simple and easy to connect. I can run it on a 9 volt battery or with a power supply. A no brainer.

Great headphone amp for drummers!

By Brian Watts from Columbus, OH on December 24, 2016 Music Background: Pro percussionist, audio engineer, producer, composer

Perfect wired in headphone amp for drummers. If you don't move around on stage, it's the perfect amp at a great high quality and amazing price! Nice clean sound, plenty of volume and gain and lightweight.
Gives a drummer the chance to dial in that perfect mix for live or even in the studio!

Low budget option!

By Sweetwater Customer on July 7, 2016

I use the P1 to hear my own mix and instrument. For the price it's pretty sturdy and well built. Yes there are more evolved and complex options but for the setup we have, the P1 has proven to be reliable and a solution for an in-ear monitoring system.

This is the right thing!

By Paul Mazo from Savannah, GA on April 4, 2016

I used a Rolls headphone monitor for my in-ears and finally retired it as it just didn't have the power to get a good sound without breaking up. The Behringer kicks butt! I have used it a few times since getting it a couple of weeks ago and it has a great sound and I actually had to turn the volume DOWN (and I sit in front of a 5 piece horn section!) this past Saturday night. I highly recommend it for a tethered in-ear monitoring system. I'm a keyboard player - run sound for the band at the same time, so I use a stereo mix that mirrors the main mix and it's excellent.

Hearing savers

By Sam on March 4, 2016

The dreaded floor wedge feedback is gone. Our five piece has gone in ears at $50 a person. The P1 coupled with Shure 215's sound fantastic. The Behringer X18 mixer has six bus sends that can be tailored to suit all five mixes individually. Plenty of volume and flexibility. Stage volume is not a issue anymore. Vocals are carried on top of the mix without competing with guitar amps and volume wars.

Well beyond what I expected

By Ethan from Mechanicsville, VA on December 23, 2015 Music Background: Musician, Audio Lead

I bought two of these for my worship band (drums and keys) to cut down on monitor noise.
After having used the Rolls PM50s at my church for a while, I was really looking for something WITHOUT the need of a power cable.
Not only did I find it, but this box's user-friendly-ness is so much better!
XLR input (no need for a XLR - 1/4 adaptor)
Battery operated
a simply Volume knob
AND stereo capabilities with an easily accessable push button

And none of the frequencies are lost within the box. Just make sure the ear buds you use can handle the frequencies you want to hear, haha!

Great Little Box

By Eduardo Ron from Miami on October 20, 2015 Music Background: Music Producer, Band Owner

This is the perfect addition to my X32 Producer. Every musician has a Powerplay P1 and controls his monitor mix from a smartphone. They couldn't be more happy. Great sound and loud! I used to have a Presonus Headphone Amp but changed to Powerplays so all the monitor cables are BALANCED!!!

An inexpensive addition that provides unexpected results.

By James Nelson from Columbia, SC on April 3, 2015

Buy it. Then try it. You'll be glad you bought it, for more reasons than you may at first had. The key word is 'mellow.' The P1 colors the audio signal by somehow mellowing the input, and producing a result that is just right for inputting into (for instance) the stereo inputs of a multitracker. My MOX6 keyboard never sounded so good, so expensive. Yes, the output audio quality is absolutely enhanced by the PowerPlay P1. The product description does not mention the enhancement I am talking about. That is why I am submitting this review: to supplement the Product Description. In my scenario, the Belt Clip is removed, and the unit is then nestled among my other gear. The P1 becomes part of the signal chain, and takes the throne as a step beyond stereo.

Does exactly what its suppose to do !

By Dennis from Oxford, AL on April 2, 2015

These are awesome, really they are. Stereo in your ears for less than $100, you cant beat it with a stick. Bought 4 of them for the band and they all love them. We were using another product that was $150 and was only mono. When I purchased these and replaced the other, the band talked about them every time we played. Felt like the hero for a while. We have them mounted to a microphone stand, no clip to by or accessory, comes ready for that.

This is a breakthrough

By James Nelson from Columbia, SC on March 12, 2015 Music Background: Keyboardist

Upon receiving this 2-channel amplifier I tried it on the outputs of my MOX6 keyboard, and the result was too-fab! Incredibly it lifted the dynamic sound quality by a huge leap. I was stoked, and still am. If you buy it, you'll love it: in the studio or not.

Awesome

By Jt from Ft Lauderdale on January 19, 2015 Music Background: Bass player

I wanted a wired in ear monitor. After buying a 4 channel monitor which required a power adapter , I used it once and returned it. This in ear monitor with the belt clip is great. Easy to use and we'll made. Have suggested this unit to my band mates . Very happy.

Great tool for in-ear

By Doug Bethune from Chesapeake, VA on January 19, 2015 Music Background: Live sound Eng.

I bought the X32, five P-16's, and four P-1's for my Church. I put our singers on the P-16's, and the band on the P-1's. To keep within my budget, I chose this route. The band members use their smart phones to set the mix to the P-1 via the buss out I assigned.
Works great.
The P-1 is well built, mostly metal, so it can handle some abuse. Love the belt clip with opt. mic stand mount.
The only problem I had is, I assumed it came with a AC/DC power adaptor as the P-16 did. So be aware, need to buy separately.

Sounds great, sucks up batteries

By Eric from San Antonio, Tx on February 16, 2024 Music Background: Tech Director

My performers love the sound better than the P-16s. Lightweight and easy to use. Using batteries, they will not last long, I have just switched to rechargeable 9V to keep from buying batteries every weekend.

It works well for my country band !

By Dre Munoz from 956 Texas on March 20, 2022

Wow so I was needing to get an in ear set up. I didn't want to break the bank and start of with a simple set up. This does the job and saves me from the attack of a floor wedge monitor! Do it. Your ears and head will thank you!

Does the job

5+ hour jam session on battery at a friends house, stayed clear and strong. Really does the job.

works great in rehearsal studio

By Steve from Colorado on June 29, 2021

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Our whole band has these and we've gone from loud, muddy sound from floor wedge monitors to clear, well-defined sound with headphones and in-ears.

We use a PreSonus StudioLive Series III mixer with an NSB 16.8 active stage box. Everyone gets an individual monitor mix which goes to the stage box output channels. XLR mic cables connect stage box to the Beringer monitor amps. Most of us get stereo monitor mixes but one of us uses a "more me" mono setup where one input channel is just his vocals and guitar. This way he can get as much of himself as he wants.

Some of us use studio-grade headphones and some are using in-ear monitors. Everyone is happy.

Get an AC adapter because it does go through batteries fairly fast at higher volume levels.

Budget Friendly

If you are on a tight budget this is the solution for you

Almost perfect.....almost there.

By Patrick Foster from TX on March 4, 2020 Music Background: Praise and worship, former weekend warrior in various music types.

Being brutally picky here:
I would have liked the dual XLR inputs to accommodate 1/4" TRS. But I have to buy adapters and adds extra weight on the P1. Especially since the P2 has the hybrid plug that accepts both plug types. But fortunately, the microphone screw attachment works perfect with an old LP drum mike claw so I can mount it near my drum throne. I would have also preferred that this P1 unit would have come with the power adapter, because it will be mounted at all times. Oh, another minor thing, the power button should be on the same side as the power status led. And therefore the mono, stereo switch be in the back with the XLR inputs. Oh, one more item. Not an issue with me since I will buying a power adapter, but changing the battery in between songs was a little troublesome. I really enjoy using this headphone amp. I know it sounds like I am dumping on this product, but I have higher expectations than I should. Speaking of high expectations, the good people at Sweetwater have always exceeded my high expectations. This P1 unit really has a lot going for it.

Exactly what I needed

By Bryan Emmert from Columbia City, IN on April 15, 2019 Music Background: 15+ years playing in a Praise Team

I used this for the first time at our church. I plugged it directly out of one of our monitors with a 1/4" cable with a female XLR input into the box. I only went left side (MONO) and I could hear everything clearly in both the left and right ear. I installed it on a mic stand beside my pedal board and used a set of in ear monitor headphones I already had. This worked exactly how it was described. Well worth the money.

Good investment

By Alex Ronquillo from Nogales Az. on February 23, 2019 Music Background: Sound man

Product is not very expensive, but it does it"s job well. Our drummer and both bass and guitar users are content with the monitor. Our stage volume has drastically lower due to the removal of the floor wedges. Only draw back is I wished it had more volume output from the small monitor amp.

Absolutely great for this price point.

We have all of our band on these where our musicians are stationary. Sounds great with a stereo mix. The only real drawback I have is with the battery compartment. But... I can live with that. I bought the optional adapter for mine, you"ll make your money back in battery replacement. I really recommend this especially if you are a stationary player.

Like so many drummers I've been thinking about going in-ears for quite a while; glad I finally did! A big shout-out to my Sweetwater rep who started talking about this option last year. Personal highlights of this unit include the incredible headroom - I work country and classic rock, our band's own sound and that of concert-style sound of select venues...never had to push the level past nine o'clock. The on-board limiter functions great and the low battery status light is a big plus. Having the chose of belt-clip or mic stand mount is spot on. A caution is that the battery door design could use a going-over. And the biggest challenge has been that I use a throne with a backrest; little/to no room for this unit. I adjusted by wearing it as far back on my left hip as possible; created a slight re-position of my elbow but I spent adequate time in the practice room finding the right fit before I took it out.

Perfect for my drummer

By Pastor James on January 4, 2018

Was looking for an inexpensive way to get sound to my drummer, who uses an electric kit. Since he is stationary we felt we didn"t need a wireless kit and this did the trick. Our stage is fairly large but our equipment isn"t new and we are pulling funds together to buy powered equipment. We currently only have two monitors that are going dead so to get the drum sound we had to pump up the signal which drove people crazy. Our stage volume was way too loud.

A neat little amp

By Johnny Kay from Atlanta on December 23, 2017 Music Background: Broadcast engineer

I am using the P1 as an auxiliary headphone in a remote broadcast application. My only complaint is the belt clip is permanently mounted. Would like it to have an option of a flat surface on the base. Other than that. .love it.

Yup! Great product BUT...
I never changed my address on my sweetwater account so when I got the email saying that my package was delivered I said to my self, NO I WASNT!
When I looked at the address it was delivered to, I realized it was two houses ago!
I had to ring the bell on the house that I sold many years ago. Luckily the owners were cool, phew!

Why extra pay for wireless when my instrument still has a cord?

By Sweetwater Customer on July 8, 2017

I've used wireless in-ear-monitors while playing at church for years, and love them. But I didn't want to shell out hundreds for a bottom-tier one-channel wireless system, or much more for multi-channel. Figured my instrument is still connected to my rig via a cord, so why not try a corded in-ear monitor?

It is simple. I run a XLR from my band's board into this pack, which is clipped to my instrument strap. The clip is heavy-duty, and did well with my typical on-stage shenanigans. Used a 9 volt and it lasted through three 45-60 minute sets.

Purchased some Shure in-ear buds separately, as this didn't come with any.

Overall, I'm very impressed.

Potent Portable... mostly...

By Mister Pie from San Jose, CA on May 12, 2017

I've now had these things for a couple weeks and got the chance to test them out both in studio and live situations, I really like them. Of course they are a clunky alternative to using wireless IEMs, but for the price it's pretty awesome. I've used them with a Behringer X-32, an Allen & Heath Qu-Pac and even straight out of an Aviom with a specialty cable. There is a negligible amount of noise introduced into the system regardless of whether I use a 9v battery or a OneSpot power supply. No big deal, since these will be used in a noisy environment anyways, and like I said it's negligible. I love the instant M/S button for single channel input, but I've accidentally pushed the power button a couple times while I was clipping it to my belt. It's heavy, so if you're not wearing a belt I suggest you clip it to a music stand or use the mic stand mount that's built in... get a separate goose neck for that. Very simple controls, easy to use. I already have a jealous sound guy looking into getting some of these for his digital PA setup. Supposedly there's an internal (non-defeatable) limiter in this thing, but I haven't run into it yet. It's NOT very efficient with high-impedance drivers... I can't get a useful level out of them with big studio cans, but they drive my FutureSonics just fine.

Solved our stage sound issues

By Frank from York, Pa on April 17, 2017

Like many bands we were having stage monitor issues. Our drummer is loud and both guitar players have suffered some hearing loss over the years. The Behringer P1's along with Shure SE215 Sound Isolating Earphones have solved that issue. It's a very nice system and a great bargin! If you've never had an in ear monitor system, it does take some time getting used too and you will need to experiment with wearing the earphones. We put our P1's on mic stands and bought headphone extension cables. The sound is good enough to get the job done but if you're used to playing loud, you will miss the "feel" you get from stage monitors. That being said, we don't fight each other anymore and our sound tech now has full control of the house sound. Both your ears and your audience will thank you.

Great Choice

A fantastic, low cost solution to loud stages!

This changed my worship teams of the better. Now, everyone can hear and have what they desire with a extremely comfortable stage volume.

I did knock 1/2 star because of the battery door. Its a bit tough to open and the clips are thin, but overall I am extremely pleased with this unit and will be buying 4 more in the next month.

Do yourself a favor get this unit and get a pair of good in ears, such as the Shure 215 for 99 bucks.

You just can go wrong with this setup!

Wonderful, A++

By Ethan from Richmond, VA on November 1, 2015 Music Background: Drums, Guitar, Audio Engineer, 10+ years

This box does exactly what it needs to do: Takes a LINE LEVEL output via XLR, and shoots it in your ears. Please be careful not to try and send it a MIC LEVEL output, and expect to hear anything, such as plugging your SM58 directly in and singing into it.
(for those who don't know, there is about a -60 to -30 dB difference between Line and Mic level :D)

The clip is removable, to those wondering. There is also two thread pieces on the bottom (can be screwed onto a mic stand!).

Stereo or Mono. In mono, you can actually blend two inputs with the balance pot, i.e. monitor input and a click track. or just send a mono signal.

I did have to remove padding in the battery enclosure. The clip would not close otherwise, but after it was gone, CLIP and all good!

Overall very impressed. I play drums, and I could hear all the tones, high and low, cymbals, snare, kick, you name it. No mud and crud, and it was running Mono. Really excited to run it stereo!
And to top it off, I was maybe running the Volume pot at about 25%. Headroom for days!

Exactly what I needed

By Matt from Las Vegas on January 1, 2015 Music Background: Pro player

As a drummer, I was looking for something compact for the in ear rig, and more importantly I wanted something that didn't have a preamp on the XLR input like all regular mixers do. Since a regular mixer with XLR is expecting a mic level signal it has the preamp, but a feed from the monitor console comes out at line level, so I was always battling with having the monitor guy bring the send level down to keep from overdriving the channel even with the gain all the way down. Plus I really only needed one input for the monitor feed, and not all the other 1/4" and RCA inputs on other standard compact mixers, except maybe 1 more input for a click if the gig called for it. This is perfect. It has plenty of headroom, the signal sounds crystal clear and can clip to a music stand or sit on a case next to me. Fits easy in the backpack with the stick bag and charts. Gave 4.5 stars because for the money it should come with the power supply and not cost another 10 bucks.

Great Product and Great Price

I bought this headphone amp for a very simple in-ear monitor set up. I put it on my pedalboard and power it with my Truetone CS12. I had a 3.5 mm extension cable that I velcro tied to my guitar cable and plug my in ears into the extension cable. I would eventually like to run this in stereo but for now, mono is working just fine. Thanks to the wonderful people at Sweetwater.

Great unit !

By Joe from Ottawa , Ontario on August 26, 2019 Music Background: Guitar player

I'm a guitar player in a rock and roll band . I bought this unit upon reading the reviews . I've used it about 10 times now and it hasn't failed me . It even got dropped once onto a concrete floor ... still working fine . I have two XLR sends to it , my guitar and my vocal from the aux outs on our board . My ear phones are not sealed so I still can hear everyone else in the band . If you send too much gain to it , it will distort . You have to work with the input signal to then be able to turn up the P1 to a level which gives you lots of volume without distortion . I don't move around too far , so I'm hooked-up with a 20 ft. wire to the P1 .It's been a GREAT little unit and you can hear your voice perfectly ! No more floor monitors for me thank you .

Great Tool

I picked this up as a test tool! I use a tone generator or program material to input into my mic or lines and check for issues!
Picked up a console and no longer hooked ito the system. So to check routing and functions of it, subs, L&R +C.
I had this with my headphones and it worked great out of the consoles XLR"s!

Will use to listen to video feed when at FOH! I think it is a plus in any Gig bag and very useful!
Made well, good sound quality and easy on the wallet.
The XLR"s In is a big plus for me instead of some micro cable on other units!

Very happy with it and recommend it!

Over our 3 locations we own a handful of these packs, we have had several break do to wires being pulled and snapped when you take the 9v out. We are constantly have to remind volunteers to be careful. But other than that, for what we need they are a perfect solution for an easy price.

Handy little gadget for getting by on the cheap with in ear monitors. The sound quality was good and since it was heavier than what I really wanted besides being wired, I had it on a table next to me. Had a cheap pair of Bose in ears plugged into it, running mono, and kept having to turn it down. That is a problem I can live with. If you don't need wireless, I highly recommend the Behringer Powerplay P1. ...it's a steal.

Great low budget IEM option

By Josh from TN on October 2, 2017 Music Background: Performing musician/Audio Tech

Audio wise, this unit works great. For those who complain about volume, check your source. The inputs are designed for line level input, such as from the Aux of a console, not from an instrument or microphone. As long as you follow proper gain structure, you'll have more than enough volume.

Some users complain about the battery door, but we power ours all on the "wall warts," so that is not an issue. Note, that the power supplies must be purchased separately.

Due to the unit size and clip location (makes the unit off-balanced in my opinion), I wouldn't recommend it used as a belt pack. It does include standard mic threads, as well as an European thread adapter, which we utilized on K&M mic extension holders to mount from existing musicians mic stands. Coupled with a headphone extension cable, this works great.

Overall, I'd recommend this for any musician who doesn't have the need to go wireless.

good wired option

By Gold Top County Ramblers on July 25, 2017

Plenty of power, I haven't gone passed halfway. Limiter worked nice when I did try to go to Eleven!
The belt clip is poorly designed, so it teeter totter's in the middle as opposed to hanging, BUT it has the mic stand threads, so I've gotten a headphone extension cable, which is much lighter than an XLR, and leave the beltpack attached to the mic stand within reach, works great.

Let me start off by saying I am not a huge fan of IEM yet but I am starting to love it. I was looking for an affordable IEM due to the fact that at church we had put our drums in a isolation booth and I was now having a hard time hearing them. I had gigged with a few bands before that had used the P1 and had used it myself a couple times. Good quality, ease of use. The only downside is that you are wired up. The plus side you cant touch a wireless system for this price. I would recommend getting a good set of ear buds though. I use EER dual drivers it improves the overall experience so much. I am a guitar player and vocalist and it works great for me.

sounds great- one potential drawback

By Don Lewis from Hampton NH on March 31, 2017 Music Background: Guitar/Bass/Sound Engineer

I think this unit is pretty well conceived and for a wired unit not much to find fault with except...if any of you have ever owned gear where the 9 volt battery attaches to a red and black wire instead of a compartment where it just lays in you will know where I am going. Inevitably those wires break after repeated change out and replacement of fresh batteries. Why do manufacturers still put this flawed system into units? Cost? I have never owned any product with this configuration that has not eventually ended with broken wire attachment to the battery. Get you soldering gun out because you will be attaching new ones at some point.

But that aside it does the best job per cost that I have tried and has its place on stage such as drummer, keyboardist with little to no drawback from not using a wireless unit. I have used mine for over 8 hours now with same battery, not sure how long they last but it should get through a couple shows depending on length so $1.00 or less per show? Other than the potential problem I mentioned it is one of those rare audio bargains that come by now and then.

Great monitor for drummer

By Johnnysongz from Monroe wa on January 18, 2017 Music Background: Professional

My band uses keyboard samples for a few songs, we use audio files that have a click track on one side and sample on the other. This unit makes it easy to send a signal through an aux send that is mixed at the board. It gives our drummer flexibility to adjust the overall volume. Well worth the price... Running it direct didn't have the volume he needed - so make sure to run the signal from the board.

Works Nicely

By Sacalait from South Louisiana on April 5, 2016 Music Background: Producer/Guitarist

I bought it because I wanted something small that I could use for my IEM's. As for size, how it sounds, ease of use, it's great! No issues. I have two minor gripes and it's nothing to do with the performance. As someone said earlier the battery clip won't stay in place. When you screw on the belt clip that solves that. The other is the power button is just sooooo sensitive! I left a battery in mine the first time and apparently from just handling the padded backpack I put it in, it turned on and killed the battery. So I remove the battery after the gig. Otherwise, it's worth the price.

Great gear for the price

By James chappell from Alabama on December 8, 2015 Music Background: Playing bass over 30 years

We purchased nine of these for our praise band at church. What an AWESOME move from floor wedges. I was concerned about comments I read about the battery door coming off. We had that happen to some of our units, but this was easily solved by removing the rubber strip that helps hold the battery. The battery is a good tight fit anyway, and we have had NO problems. This is a great start to in ear monitors. For the price, you can't go wrong.

Behringer gets this product right with one exception

By Nicholas Lue from Albany, NY on September 12, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician

I've wondered why a wired in-ear monitor amp like this have been so expensive. Luckily Behringer has released this beauty for $50, which is what they should cost. The audio that comes through the in-ears is lossless and has plenty of volume. The knobs and buttons as well as the jacks seem well made and have a sturdy quality. I also like the quality of the belt clip which also includes a mount for 3/8" screw.

Overall this product is a 5.... except one tiny little detail. I bought two and on one of them the plastic battery cover does not click closed. It's held on with friction, but it will fall off with just the slightest touch. This seems to be the fate of every remote control I've ever owned! Hopefully this is a very oddball defect that doesn't permeate the rest of the product line. All the same, check that.

By TK Turbo from Wilmington, NC on February 6, 2020 Music Background: Active performer (guitar, bass, drums, keys)

Handy handy handy. Great for all kinds of nifty IEM tricks and cheap if you don't need wireless. Drummers: add click to one side and monitor feed to the other and blend/pan as necessary on the fly. Battery powered makes many thing easier. I use a throne when performing, so I attached Velcro to the unit and under the throne so it's out of the way and my ear buds won't get tangled up as it sits at the back of the throne.

Plenty of gain/volume in this beast, but I would highly recommend a decent set of IEM buds.

Good! But Have Reservations On The Quality Of The Battery Door

By JDE from East Coast on October 6, 2018

For a basic headphone amp and the price, it's great. It functions well and does the job for a "wired" amp.

I was not; however, impressed with the design and quality of the battery door. Behringer went all out on the case, but failed to properly design the battery door. The tabs on the battery door, and the shelf on the well that it would sit on, are under-designed. Bottom line: When replacing the battery, it's a pain to insert the door properly, and close the door. If and when it fails, I'll just try to re-engineer it and install a different battery holder in.

It is a good unit otherwise. I would still recommend it as long as you are aware of the potential issue.

By Philip R Calder from South Carolina on October 31, 2017 Music Background: @wetnosedogs

the unit delivers. i am a vocalist. in my situation, i don't want to e cut off completely from the crown and have a lot of interaction that i need to hear, so i use one ear in/out. at first, i could not get enough volume, so it was a struggle. but we were using an older mixing console that didn't have very much power to push signal. Then, we upgraded to the Behringer X Air 12 which is pushing all i need volume wise and my vocals were on point. ideally i would be wireless and the P2 when it comes out would be awesome as a wired option since it is only one channel and i only use one in-ear, if i had to be wired. but this definitely gets the job done.

Behringer PowerPlay P1

By Kip Cook from Charlottesville, Va. on November 23, 2014 Music Background: once pro and now week end warrior

Maybe I just gave this unit a low rating but I do like it and I use it with a weekender band - This group has no stage monitors and uses IEM - I play piano so I don't need a wireless set up - You can remove the belt clip and then it will sit nice and flat on my piano - You could leave the clip on and turn it upside down - It will also screw into a mike stand if you don't have something to sit it on -
It's simple - I don't know if the feed back limiter works because it hasn't come up for me yet - I could not get the battery door open so I broke it and taped it back on - The battery I was using was so tight that I used a knife to pry it out - The battery died in the middle of a job and I never saw the warning light go off - I did not get very much time out of a battery but I'm not sure that I may have left it on and ran it down - Alright here is the tip - Don't use batteries - Plug it in with a 9 volt wall wart - It doesn't have a lot of gain and that may be because it is designed to run off of batteries - It would be a great idea if they made it so it would input a 1/4 inch as well as the XLR - But for the reasonable price you should buy one -

More trouble than it's worth.

By john kracy from PORTLAND, OR on February 28, 2024

I was stoked to get this little rascal because there where quite a few people raving about it.
Well let me tell you.. It's not worth it and continue to look for something better for the long run.
first of all. A 9 volt battery does not go in and out of it as easily as you would think and that's a problem when you need to be ready for down beat and suddenly you B S'ng around with a battery.
Just heavy enough that as a drummer you really don't want to hook this onto your belt.
And the cover for the battery is wafer thin...It was loose in the package when it shipped here. Was really trying to overcome my anger on trying to insert a 9volt ,finally got it in and i then had to fight trying to get this POS case cover closed
SNAP! a little teenie tiny tooth on the lid/cover snapped... Brand new unit and now it's covered in duct tape and I made do with hook and loop tape so I velcro it to the bottom of my drum stool...Waste of money.

Poor battery door box design

By KK from Louisiana on January 22, 2021 Music Background: 30+ years playing guitar & home studio

I purchased 3 P1s for my home recording studio. These are handy little monitor amps and are going to work perfectly for individual monitor mix amplifiers. I run two outputs from my board (ie 1=left and 2=right) to the inputs on the P1, to get a stereo mix to the listener. There is plenty of volume. I really wanted to give these a better review, but on the first day one of the "release tabs" on the battery door broke. All 3 were very hard to get opened. I will attempt to get a replacement 9v battery box, but it was a little aggravating that this design wasn't a little better. A lid with a simple screw design would have been much better. Oh well, for the price and the overall function I probably shouldn't complain.

I'm sure Sweetwater would have replaced it, but since I purchased 3 of these, I can see that it will be an issue with all of them. However they boxes/lids can be changed... Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone that in considering buying.

Problems still not fixed...

By Samos Alixopulos from Edmonds, WA on May 16, 2016 Music Background: Studio Owner, Producer, Recording Artist

This in most ways is exactly what I need in the studio, however, I'm taking 1 start off because despite the battery door being a known problem for many years (looking back at past reviews), it has remained neglected and unfixed by Behringer. I bought 3 of these units, and had difficulty with the battery door on the first 2 and the 3rd one broke on the very first use. I assume the others will probably break off after another battery change or two... I'm also taking another star off for the unit having no TRS stereo jack on the back, requiring me to buy dual male XLR to female TRS adapters for each unit in order to get a true stereo image in my headphone mix. Also, the unit does not ship with an AC power supply, which means you are forced to use the batteries, and then of course, inevitably bust the battery door in the process!

Needs more volume.

By Sweetwater Customer on January 11, 2021

Behringer's P1 is good but not great...

By Kerry Phillips from Georgia on December 25, 2016

This unit works quite well for it's very reasonable price point. As stated in previous reviews the battery cover is still an issue with these so you have to be very careful when changing the battery. Upon trying to open it the very first time, even being aware of the fragility, I thought I had broken it and I was being very careful. My band recently started using a Behringer XR18 and we went from a powered mixer with a single mono stage monitor mix to multiple custom in ear mixes. The other members are very pleased with the results that they get with this unit paired with the Shure 215 ear buds, including the drummer who is a rather loud player. The issue I have with this unit, at least mine, is that the mix levels seem to come and go in my ears. The vocals seem to come through hot at times and then get buried in the mix even during the same song with no adjustment made. This is also true for various instruments in the mix including my bass. The amount of headroom is not very high either. I usually run my volume at or near max on a mono mix. I have played three shows and several rehearsals with the same outcome each time. I continue to try different settings as I understand some of the problem could be operator error but the issue seems consistent even with the different setups and eq settings that I have tried. The unit is still usable and it is a good entry level IEM amplifier but I expected more from this product even at it's modest price.

I had a bit of trouble getting the battery compartment door to stay closed. I found the amplifier to be a bit heavier than I thought it would be. I am a first time user of headphones for rehearsals and found them cumbersome. The sound reproduction is very good, and the stereo and mono work perfectly. Still searching for the perfect match for what I need.

By Sweetwater Customer on September 16, 2017

Ok. I had high hopes for this item. Here is my problem with the Powerplay P1: Turning up the mic gain can provide some great sound in the headphones through the P1. Making a studio recording is great. However, in order to get good sound from powered speakers for stage, you need to balance the mic gain with the speaker output. Turning up the gain red-lines and causes harmonic distortion. turning the mic gain down and powering the signal with the speakers give me a much cleaner stage sound. Hence the problem. Now I can't hear my voice very well in the headphones. At this point the Powerplay P1 is useless for a monitor. I wonder, is it possible to overdrive the P1 with higher voltage maybe? who knows. I think Behringer missed the mark with the Powerplay P1.

Ok, not great

By Sweetwater Customer on January 9, 2016

Does what its suppose to do. Which it had a little more power and better response.

Buyer Beware!

By D. Gary Benore from Monroe, MI on July 5, 2021

I bought a P1 in mid 2018. used it at weekly practices where it never got hauled around. In January of 2020 I took it to a gig and in the middle of a set it stopped working on battery power. First time on a gig it was used, and I traveled with it in the original box with original packaging.

Luckily I had purchased the power adapter (NOT included with the P1!) and was able to get it working with the adapter and an extension cord between the next sets. I sent it back to my Sweetwater rep (Chris Goldbach...best rep ever!) and he sent me a new one. Enter Covid. The P1 sat in it's original packing box for over a year b4 my band started rehearsing again. We started rehearsing in May where it again sat in one place for almost 2 months. Took it out for a 4th of July gig...traveled with it in it's original packing...and in the middle of set the replacement unit stopped working on battery power! Again!

also again...the power adapter rescued me between sets.

It does work pretty well. I use a single xlr stereo out off the mixer and plug into the behringer left channel, hit the mono button and am all set. it can get wayyyy too loud in my Shure in ears, so it's got some guts. BUT....

Now I am carrying an extra 20' extension cord and the power adapter along with a piece of equipment that was supposed to be battery powered. also..there is no locking mechanism on the power cord adapter..it can slip in and out of the P! with very little pressure, so set it up where it won't get jostled. I am a drummer and set it on the floor under my drum stool where no one can trip on it and pull the power cord out of the P1.

MY advice should you buy one...
1. treat it gently... not too rough as it's not made for anything other than gentle handling, IMHO.
2. BUY THE POWER ADAPTER! You're gonna need it.

By Russ Whitesell from VA on October 25, 2018 Music Background: Drummer/vocalist

Very weak preamp in this unit...even after boosting the monitor signal from the board through a Samson mixer, the signal was too low when the whole band came in.I almost had to turn the P1 all the way up to get a decent signal, but then it became distorted. Plus, it's low to mid frequency heavy. Top end frequencies are mostly non-existent, giving it a muffled sound. Might be fine to just monitor a music source, but not very efficient for full live band situations.
