Plexi Drive

By Kevin from North Carolina on May 16, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist

Amp in a box aside, this replaced my JHS 3 Distortion and Fender Pugilist. The knobs and switches on here make it easy to get a pleasing tone. To me, this is the best burger in town.

Oh yeah

Great Plexi Drive

By Sean Serafin from SCOTTSDALE, AZ on December 23, 2022

Adding another satisfied review to this pedal. Using the pedal with either a Fender SSS or Gibson LP it delivers great crunch or mid level distortion. Just the right amount of control and the two switches really augment the sound. Perfect when switching between single coil or Humbuckers. Whether just hitting some crunchy rock, pulling AC/DC highs or modern rock, this small size pedal nails it. Used it in 9v or 18v for a little more push, either way it's awesome. It's not ultra high gain (hence plexi) so modern rock yes, hard core rock or metal-not on it's own.

I've got it in line with a Spark Boost and with a Tubescreamer. The combo's between these 3 cover anything I can think of. I run the Plexi first then the TS then the Spark to boost the output. You can of course reverse the order but I love this setup. Don't get me wrong though: the Plexi alone is really solid.

I had an issue with a POP noise on the pedal. It was likely my power so I switched to a cioks (which is fantastic by the way. Jerry at Wampler and Sweetwater were amazing at giving me support and sorting out the issue. Can't say how much I appreciate Sweetwater and Brandon as well as Wampler's service. Both are top notch and will continue getting my business.

Best Dirt Box I've Ever Used!!!!

By Erik Guidotti from Monongahela, PA on March 7, 2022

Ive used and own multiple distortions and overdrives from folks like Boss, MXR, TC Electronic (thoroughly underwhelming) and the ever popular Tube Screamer. This cold smokes them all.

Great pedal!

Wampler always puts out an excellent pedal and this one is outstanding.

Better than original regular plexi.

By Sweetwater Customer from PHILADELPHIA, PA on October 30, 2021 Music Background: Guitar

This has more gain. I like it better than the original. Plus, it's a mini pedal which I like.

Good Sound and Fit

By Danny Patton from Arkansas Delta on August 19, 2021 Music Background: 50 plus years semi-pro, now serving in Christian music.

Fits Board with size and sounds three times it's size. Good crunch-my choice, but can really acheive the distortion. Has several tonal possibilities as well. Mike Arango, my sales Rep is always very helpful and on teh spot.

Plexi Drive Mini

Great sounding Pedal. Wampler nailed the Plexi Amp sound. Love the Mids boost. No overloading issues when stacking. I use 18v, at 9v sounds killer to. It really nails the sound of my 50 Watt Marshall 1987XL Plexi Amp with the Plexi Mini Drive going through my Clean Fender 65 princeton.Killer Plexi pedal.

A marshall stack

By joe fedor from FL on July 2, 2021 Music Background: Guitar since 1965

A Marshall stack .. that fits in your back pocket buy a one spot and you have your power source put it in your other pocket. ..
It's a whole lot easier on your back than to carry that big stack around and it sounds the same incredible. ,,, the pedal is dynamite!

Great pedal Mini

By Sweetwater Customer on May 18, 2021 Music Background: Guitar

I like this way more than the original. The original didn't have enough gain. This sounds and feels better. I like it a lot. I also have the bigger deluxe. They're both great. I have many pedals and I can't find anything wrong with the sound as someone mentioned it gets grainy. Not in my experience. It depends on your pick ups, your amp or modeler etc. and how you set things. I recommend it. I like it so it's a keeper.

Plexi Drive

Very nice. Also with the switches lots of tonal options. Brian Wampler always makes great sounding affordable pedals. You can't go wrong.

Big sound from a little package

By AJ from ROSWELL, GA on February 25, 2021 Music Background: Native Detroit rocker, living in the ATL.

Don't let the small looks distract you. This pedal has some big sound. The boost from the volume knob alone was enough for me to validate my purchase decision. The range on the gain was smooth. I did notice that with the gain cranked up all the way, the pedal, without any guitar playing had this odd wavy flangy sound going on. But, at that level the distortion was so much (good still) I probably won't play at that level. But if you do like that much gain, it won't show up in active play. Chug away there.

This is my first, but probably not my last Wampler. The solid construction, dials and switch quality, packaging, stickers, pouch (yeah they gave me a freaking pouch for it) made it worth the wait. Also, Made in the USA. Don't ever change that Wampler. I'll come help assemble pedals on the weekends to keep it built in the states.

Fits my budget and my board.

I use to own the Plexi-Drive Deluxe. Sold it due to size and didn't like the boost side. The deluxe does sound different from the mini but not in a bad way. Both can get you that Marshall tone. The Deluxe just has more features for tone shaping. The Deluxe I would say has a different compression/sag feel than the mini. With the mini Plexidrive it sounds more focused, feels tighter and yet more organic at the same time. The mid boost is supposed to sound like a k-type circuit slamming into it when engaged.I compared the mid boost to the mini Tumnus and I get the same exact tones...and that's killer because I never bonded with the tube screamer boost on the deluxe. You can get classic to modern rock sounds, rythm to leads, it's all there. The price, size, quality and tone of this pedal is a no brainer if you want to get close to that plexi sound without spending a small fortune.

Just buy it!

I added this little pedal to the end of my dirt section of the pedalboard and immediately had a beautiful Marshall tone. The bass boost and midrange give the player a wide range of tonal possibilities. It stacks very well with other pedals. Add a Tumnus, Fuzz or Dumbler and you have an incredible sound. I also used it with my Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret and was pleasantly surprised. As far as amps, I've played through my Goodsell Superseventeens, Vox AC15 and a vintage Peavey 410. It just adds to the great tones these amps already have. Wampler created a masterpiece with the PlexiDrive mini.

Nice high gain overdrive

By James Rankin from Cincinnati, OH on August 14, 2022 Music Background: Build amps and pedals for a living.

If you are looking at this pedal then you know what it is. High gain overdrive with some nice options.

Both the mid and bass options are really nice on this. Who wants all that mud in the bass? If your stacking your drives then the mid control becomes very friendly.

I would give it a 5* but it is a bit noisy.

Wampler just blows me away.

By Travis Kuebler on June 1, 2021

Just got it today but I havent turned it off all day. Great pedal. I dont think I'll ever buy an overdrive that doesnt say wampler on it since I've used this and the tumnus mini now. Love them both.

Hear The Marshall ROAR!

By Liam from Northeast U.S. on December 1, 2020 Music Background: Semi-Pro Guitarist, and Professional Producer

This is a great little pedal, I've played this through my Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue (rebuilt & hot-rodded), Vox AC30, and Boogie F100, and can get a nice 70's style growl to a full-on wall of crunch in any situation. Once again, Sweetwater has gone above and beyond my expectations.

Excellent od

By Snake from New Jersey on June 28, 2021 Music Background: Pro

Most pedals either speak to me clearly right away or they don't. This one did and getting a good sound took just a few seconds .

, Great overdrive tone !

By Phil Brigham from Raynham, MA on May 4, 2021 Music Background: Been playing gigs for 53 years. Have written music for TV and movies, including Kill Bill Volume 2.

I received my Wampler Plexidrive Mini about a week ago from Sweetwater (Thanks Mike Singer).
Used it on a gig a couple of days ago.
Whether or not it sounds like a Marshall Plexi, I can't tell you.
But once I dialed it in to my liking, I was very pleased. Playing an SG into the clean channel of a Boogie Mark V 25 on a lower volume gig, I ended up cranking the gain up a little below halfway, volume at about 10 o'clock to be slightly higher than bypassed, with the tone on about 8 o'clock. The mid boost on. I did add the bass boost after a while, maybe because I'm playing thru an open back 112 cab.
Dirty solos sounded thick, and not harsh, and slide gtr. sounded great.
I'm happy with it. It is tiny, and I worried I might kick it over, but it stayed in place.

Great with moderate output pickups.

By Nick from CT on December 1, 2020

I have not tried the bigger Plexi Drive only this one. The tone of this surprised me, it is very good. It sounded very good with my Tom Anderson Classic S. I could get everything from Hendrix to classic Van Halen levels of gain. Boosting it with a Tumnus it sounded even better! However when I plugged in my Music Man EVH, the pedal got overloaded, muddy, clipped and just bad. This pedal shines with low to medium output pickups but with very high output pickups it seems to crap out. Otherwise it sounds very good, better than expected! I used it into the clean channel of my Friedman amp. It sounds almost as good as the dirty channel on my Friedman amp.

Gave Me What I Wanted

By Carl Lie from New York, NY on November 28, 2020

This is a great pedal for the price if you want to get into Marshall tone land. I have on hand an OCD and a Klon Klone but thought I'd give this a try. It pulls off the Marshall tone pretty well. OCD and Klone's are more transparent and keep the amp's character. I was able to get Marshall gain (and plenty of it) in a Fender style amp with this pedal.

I really like the mid boost switch and probably would not want this pedal if it didn't have it. Also my first mini pedal which I found be hard to read where it's set but I assume all minis are like this.

The price along with delivery of Marshall style tone (and true bypass) gave me what I wanted.
