How many things would you like a stompbox to do?

By Michael R. from Livingston, NJ
Music Background: Recording for 40 years straight

This box does IN-KEY harmonization, and it lets YOU set the key--on the fly--by PLAYING NOTES ON YOUR INSTRUMENT while holding down the middle footswitch. This is just so so cool, because you don't interrupt your playing to change the key of your Quadravox or Diatonic pitch-change patch. So you can have the PitchFactor FOLLOW your playing through different keys, as long as you remember to hit the middle footswitch as you play the root of the new key.

Let me also point out that the PitchFactor has a feature that you cannot get even on the modern H90: IT SHOWS YOU THE ROOT & KEY YOU'RE IN. I know what key the PF "thinks" it's in at any given time. Sometimes, playing "wrong" notes into the PF gets you cool results.

Okay more stuff to love: the H910 and H949 stuff is growing on me. I use the Harmodulator with zero modulation to do the best parallel pitch-shifts I ever encountered until I got a Quad Cortex (released only like 15 or 20 years after the PF first hit). I use and love the octaver. The Whammy is super-cool, and super-flexible. The synth! Is amazing. "Harpeggiator" is SUPER COOL if you're locked to clock along with the rest of your ensemble (honestly just use Ableton Link you'll love it).

MicroPitch is so amazing they made it into a separate pedal. Basically, incredible if you're trying to emulate (for example) Eddie Van Halen's 90s sound on the first few Van Hagar records: huge, stereo, Eventide.

Crystals needs to introduction, that effect is so associated with Eventide itself.

Also, need to mention: if you're using a PitchFactor, or a ModFactor, or a TimeFactor, or a Space, or any Strymon pedal, etc. etc. etc., you need to check out MIDI Designer for iPad. It allows you to easily create layouts to select, with the touch of a button, ANY patch in your pedal. Amazingly useful.

Eventide pedals are in a different league…

By Hugo from Houston, Texas
Music Background: Classic, Blues, Jazz, Classical Guitar

I own a Modfactor, Pitchfactor and Time-factor for years and countless many other effects pedals, Moog, Strymon, Boss, including TC GSystem and new Helix floor. Eventide pedals are in a league of their own. I keep coming back to them. Not user friendly but they sound phenomenal and they are built like bricks.

Fun stomp box on mono synths

By Charlie from Chicago
Music Background: Electronic music / hip hop producer

Fun stomp box on mono synths. It does roll off a little low end so not for bass patches.

Gives me chords on my Moog sub37.

Crystals is a very fun algo!

Flawed and outdated...

By StevieJ

$... for this flawed and outdated pedal is ridiculous... Bit depth is not studio quality, bad circuitry sucks tone when off, can only scroll presets in one direction, presets are aweful, sound mods are tedious, and way more of a delay pedal than being pitch shifter or harmonizer pedal... There are bettet quality pitch shifters for less money out there... Suggest Digitek Harmonyman for a much better harmonizer at this price point... Do some research before purchasing this pedal...

Eventide Harmonizer

By Jason from South Carolina
Music Background: Weekend warrior

I really have enjoyed this really cool stomp box considering it"s function and features! It"s really cool exploring the possibilities of chording and lead guitar solos with the fully adjustable pitch harmony settings! Now I can play the Under Lock And Key by Dokken chords precisely and hone in on the Van Halen Balance album too!! Well worth the money!!! I buy all of my gear through Nate Burkhardt who is my Sweetwater salesman!!

Beyond Expectations

By Solo G. from Southern California

My first pitch shifter was an EHX Pitchfork, which I loved, but knew there had to be something with expanded capabilities... i.e.: presets I could change by footswitch instead of having to reach down to the box and change intervals by hand. Enter PitchFactor, with modes and parameters galore, shipping with a whopping 100 presets that can be altered and resaved as additional user presets. As others have commented, you have to footswitch through the presets in order to get to a specific effect; as with such devices, you won't be using a majority of those presets. What surprises me is that no one has mentioned the Eventide controller app you can install on iPhone or iPad or Mac, hook it up via USB, have absolute visual control over editing presets as well as call them up much faster by scrolling through the list and picking them in whatever order you want... not to mention change the order of your user presets for use in a live setlist scenario. Granted not everyone has these devices, but if you do, you DON'T need to buy an additional footswitch just for changing presets. Plus I love how the app "re-labels" the parameter knobs so you can see exactly what you're changing in each effect mode. There's only so much info that can show on the box's display. So if you're an iPad or iPhone user, using the app that's available for this already powerful unit will provide you with a whole new level of control over that power... in addition to saving you having to spend extra on an external switch.

works perfectly and sounds amazing

By Bill B. from Warren, MI

I recently purchased this with the timefactor and they are a great combination together. I have been searching for a pedal that can handle the hot signal (+4 loop) from my Soldano SLO 100 and still sound correct, well this pedal definitely delivers. yes this pedal is expensive as pedals go but worth every penny to me.

Update on first review: Amazing!

By Jimi L. from Wentzville, MO

I was a bit dismayed when I first bought this and found out I had to use a separate pedal just to move the banks up AND down. Well, since I now run it through my effects loop on my Mesa Mark 5:35, it sounds so cool that I'd crawl through the mud to change banks if I had to. Since I'm using it in my studio primarily, there's no need to be changing more than two programs per song and you can use the user presets to assign them where you need them. This device has amazing clarity and incredible versatility. If your not comfortable with programming, you might not get the most out of this unit. However, if it's high quality, state of the art effects you want, then you'll want to add this to your arsenal.

Disgrace

By CasterBlaster from northern NV
Music Background: player

I was going to give this this pedal a 2 star rating-but I couldn't rate it as "ok". I was originally impressed with the effects offered from a rack unit into a pedal. The offerings and controls are extensive. But the circuit is poor. I always felt like the many effects weren't fully up to quality sound. Then playing using 4th generation pick ups with my Strat. I couldn't figure out why it lost it's magnificent sound. It instead sounded like theTele twang and a cheap one at that. It was so bad I couldn't believe it. Then I realized I was bypassing through the PitchFactor by Eventide. I only had 3 pedals on the chain. Two were Eventide and one was a Keeley which never gives me trouble in bypass. I checked the other pedals, changed pedal cables and ran the pedals alone out of the chain. The tone ruining culprits were both Eventide pedals in bypass. They're that poor. I thought anyone who is concerned about tone over effects should know. Thank you

Pitch Shifting, and more!

By Sweetwater Customer from Cincinnati

Eventide provides many options & functions in this one magic box. Pitch shifting based on a number of effect categories, with lots of options underneath. But certainly not limited there. There are combinations that make this a pretty good delay pedal, and a very good chorus pedal.
Learning this device takes some time, so be patient. Navigation can be a challenge at first. Some effect categories change how the controls work. But, they are all there for you to twist. No menu system to fly through.
The default presets in bank mode are a great place to start. And they are well documented. So, you can see the settings that went into a preset, and build from there.
I'm knocking 1/2 point off because the LED display is a bit course for reading (for me) especially when using the included tuner. But LEDs would certainly show well on a darker stage. Also, the tone can be a bit harsh (trebly) at times, depending on selections.

Great sound but WARNING!!!

By Jimi L. from St. Louis metro
Music Background: Over 50 years as a guitarist

Yes, the Eventide sound and capabilities are of the highest quality. However, WARNING! This is the only device on the entire planet using banks and presets that only changes banks in one direction UNLESS you purchase an auxiliary switch that uses a stereo (tip/ring/sleeve) cable. Upon contacting Eventide about finding the correct auxiliary footswitch, after not finding one on my own, they suggested the Digitech FS300. However, that is no longer being produced but the Digitech FS3X is the new version. In addition to having to purchase additional hardware, now I have to allot space on my pedalboard just so I can go up AND down for my bank selections. Another drawback is the FS3X comes with a 10' stereo cable but I only need 1' to keep my pedalboard tidy. You will also need to get into System Editing to program the footswitch to perform the increment and decrement action. If I hadn't waited 7 weeks before I used this pedal after purchase, I would have returned it because of this outrageous annoyance. Since there only two presets per bank and 50 or 100 banks depending on your programming preference, you might decide you only want to use one or two presets for your performances. However, if you accidentally hit the bank up switch, you'll have to push it another 49 to 99 times to get back to where your favorite presets are. It's too bad a company as renowned as Eventide would overlook such a basic design flaw. Once bitten, twice shy.

Amazing!

By Rafael from Fresno, CA
Music Background: Guitarist

I have wanted a harmonizer pedal ever since I heard Yes' "Owner of a lonely heart". But wow this pedal does so much more than harmonize; I could probably replace a third of my pedal board with this pedal: This pedal has some of the most gorgeous choruses I've heard!

harmonizer heaven

By albert s. from walls, ms
Music Background: semi-pro

What adream pedal !! so many sounds and colors....out of the box this thing will do so much, but dig into it and the pitchfactor comes alive !!! a word of warning---not for the lazy--it takes some work, but the reward is worth it !!! I thought a bit spendy for a pedal, but well worth every dime....glad I got it on my board....

Pitch shifting at Eventide Quality

By Ron K. from San Francisco, CA
Music Background: Producer

I've tried other pitch shifters. Eventide's sound quality always amazes me. This thing sounds really good. You could use it as a studio effect. The preset switching is pretty limited in my opinion. Also the pitch shifting is not easy to tweak live. Its good if you want to set it to one key and one key only and forget it.

Not for the Meek or the Lazy

By Tim from Lost in the Woods, Missouri
Music Background: Ex-Pro Guitarist, Hobbyist Recording Engineer

I'm a pretty traditional player, blues and classic rock/metal. I find it really hard to beat a Gibson straight into a Marshall. That's all I need. If I use pedals at all, it's usually a pretty standard chorus or delay, at least until now. This is really an amazing pedal! Sure, it's easy to get completely useless sounds out of it, but with some work, there are tons of incredible tones in this box.

It's a mistake to think of this thing as just a harmony generator. It's more like a delay with control of the pitch (and modulation, and envelope, and number) of the repeats (even if the delay is set to zero). The quality is good enough to use on any source, not just guitar or bass. That makes it a useful studio tool, another reason I added this to my collection.

I gave this a 4 because it's not a plug in and play pedal, not that I expected it to be. Honestly, I don't think the presets do it justice, either (they aren't bad, but...). It takes some work to get it to sound good. Once you do, though, there are a seemingly endless variety of things it can do. Sure, it's not as powerful as a full-fledge harmonizer, but it's a fraction of the price, too. If I was a full-time producer or recording engineer, I'd get one of Eventide's uber-super-mega-boxes. But, I'm not; I'm a guitarist first and this pedal gives me everything I need.

The bottom line is that this is an incredible, creative tool, always ready to reward a little work with new and inspiring tones.
