Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe V2 Overdrive Pedal Reviews

Overdrive Pedal with 3-band EQ, Independent Boost, Sag Switch, Vintage/Modern Switch, and Boost/Gain Switch

The Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe V2 overdrive pedal is a vastly updated design that starts with the original Pinnacle's "brown sound" character and adds a huge level of versatility and convenient features. The V2 boasts a 3-band EQ for dialing into your amplifier rig. The independent Boost function adds a screamer-style punch to your guitar tone. The Modern/Vintage toggle switch shapes the character of your tone. The Boost/Gain toggle switch restructures the pedal's gain-staging to elevate you above the mix. And the side-mounted sag control allows you to determine how tight the pedal's bottom end feels. The Pinnacle Deluxe V2 may be the most versatile British amp-in-a-box out there.

Great Variation

By James Castile from PALM COAST, FL on December 12, 2023 Music Background: Professional musician

I have an SD-1 pushing this pedal and I use the SD-1 for example to play High N Dry by Def Leppard. I use the SD-1 and the boost button (with gain/boost toggle set to gain) of this to play Let it Go, and I turn both of those off and use the gain stage of this pedal (the left button) for anything heavy and it very much emulates my Marshall. So much so that I might start looking to get rid of my Marshall for a a Fender or some other clean amp.
So anyway, this pedal is versatile.
The only thing I don't like about this pedal is that I have not found a way to use the Modern/Vintage toggle in the modern position. It doesn't sound modern to me like a Powerball II. The clipping becomes more brittle sounding and the tone thins out. Not scooped. But ALL the bass and mid seems to drop off in the modern setting so it stays on Vintage and there is PLENTY of heavy modern sound to be had in the vintage setting.
I don't use the sag button so no opinion
I run this on a 9 volt power supply. It can run from 9-19 but according to Wampler that doesn't change the sound it simply raises the signal level at output the higher the voltage.
I love this pedal and in my opinion its only equal for chug is the Friedman BE-OD.

I considered knocking off a half star as a result of my dislike for the modern toggle but honestly, that is a non-issue so 10/10.

Outstanding tone from this pedal! I use this for high gain application and is the best for its articulation and pick response.

Way Better Cranked Marshall Tone Box

By Sweetwater Customer on November 15, 2020

I acquired this after returning a DLS several months ago. While the DLS was able to achieve a nice Marshall tone with a great deal of effort, I found it very finicky and ultimately inflexible despite a few interesting features (inconveniently accessible inside the case).

My experience with the Pinnacle Deluxe was vastly different. It definitely covers the Brown / cranked Marshall well, with useable controls that allow easy and predictable adjustability. The built-in boost saves a spot on my board, and the modern switch / disengage of sag allows for different genre, though that's not what I bought this pedal for.

Glad I dumped the DLS.

Wampler Pinnacle V2

By Tai from San Diego, Ca on August 15, 2019 Music Background: 30 years of playing guitar

After watching every demo video I could find on utube, I decided to order the Pinnacle V2 pedal. Even though everyone gave it great reviews, it"s honestly hard to tell what a piece of gear will truly sound like until you play it in real life.

When it arrived I plugged into a Gibson les Paul and it sounded even better than I had hoped! Going straight into the Marshall JVM, I switched between the amp"s distortion and the pinnacle"s distortion and the Pinnacle V2 sounds very similar to a driven JMP or JCM cranked Marshall head.

Truly a Marshall in a box!

Excellent customer service

I bought V1 pedal used. I fried it with wrong adapter. Not only did Brian fix it for free, but paid return ship. I"m loyal for life.

This pedal, not unlike other pedals, works well with particular Amps. I run it with FUCHS Lucky 7 and it"s MY tone. It nails classic rock to perfection. Total FACEMELT.

Top Notch!

I was already a big fan of Wampler pedals when I purchased the Pinnacle Deluxe v2 so I wasn't at all surprised that it turned out to be a fantastic pedal. The addition of the independent boost is a plus and the sag button just adds more versatility to an already awesome pedal. The ground that this pedal covers is hard to describe but nevertheless you can pretty much cover every rock sound you can imagine. If you are looking for a top notch AIAB style pedal, you can't go wrong with the Pinnacle Deluxe v2.

wow!

First of, Thank you Scott Bennet X1738(Sweetwater SE) awesome top notch service and quick shipping...

Believe the hype! I'm a bridge humbucker( vintage wound) kinda guy so I needed an amp like pedal with tons of gain that still has clarity as well as solo boost that doesn't get all muddied up!

Well,I got it and some more! also very good when rolling down the guitar volume knob even when Gain is almost at 3 O'clock, wow! Also works really awesome with my Digitech CabDryVR.. Just dont be a cheapo and fork out the money and be done with it.

Highly recommend it for all styles,Yes! its that versatile....

Wow - awesome pedal

I had been searching for a versatile O/D for some of my amps, Blackstar HT5R and Fender Blues Jr and originally got the Mesa Throttle Box. I love Mesa amps and wanted to love it but I just didn't. No worries, just got an RA# and back it went, and I got this instead, after watching a million reviews. It's way more than just a one trick, brown sound, pony. This thing does it all. Super flexible and with the boost, it's like two pedals in one. 3 if you count the boost with the Vintage/Modern mode. Still playing around with the sag button and the eq controls are super functional. This even came with a battery - small thing but the Mesa pedal did not. This thing really lives up to the hype.

Reaches another Pinnacle!

I've used and still use a V1 and have loved that pedal for years. Very JCM amp sounding. Not so much for the EVH thing but for a great Pagey Marshall tone on my Les Pauls.
The new V2 improves upon an already great pedal adding some nice features like a redesigned layout to reduce noise floor, a better relay true bypass, 9-18v operating capability, EQ controls extreme boost or cut of lows, mids or highs.
New boost circuit design also works independently now. Added gain structure switch and a side mount sag control which tightens up the low end response ever so slightly.
Top mounted better access jacks. The V2 is thicker in size than the V1 and if you look inside you can see Brian Wampler designs an amazing circuit, this is not a hollow box of a few clipping diodes.
I think the V2 can gain up much more than the V1 also with retaining that amp like tone and feel. These are just two of my fav pedals of all time. While they are certainly engineered to get the EVH brown sound gain structure they really are so much more. Brian delightfully over designs a pedal with a greater range of EQ and gain than you will need and that is a very cool thing. You will never find the pedals lacking in just not quite enough of anything. So yeah, V2 kills, as one of the best distortion pedals of all time.
If you have a V1 keep it as it does have some tones the V2 does not quite get, and the V2 is very much brighter and high ended than the V1 so you may want to roll off the high EQ a lot. I found my fav tone is hit the modern more high end toggle then roll back the Hi EQ seems to just kill. Wampler has done it again!

Pinnacle Deluxe

This was my first Wampler pedal. I really like the OD sound flexibility, boost tone, heavy construction and switch quality. I wish all my pedals had these easy push switches!!! However I would like to see power supplies included in all his pedals. I can say this will not be my last purchase from Wampler, I really like his tone.

Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe V2

By Bill G. from Upstate New York on May 11, 2017 Music Background: Played guitar 53 years, 5 years full time and full time part-time weekend bands.

Just purchased the Wampler PinnacleDeluxe V2, and I am very impressed with how versatile it is. It has improved my overall sound, my solo volume balancing, along with now having a handy boost for different situations (boosting other pedals on my board). I have had it less than a month, and there are toggle settings I haven't even played with yet. So there is a lot more that needs to be discovered. I am really impressed with how active the tone controls are, as you can really tweak the bass, mids, and treble. All 3 are very responsive. The unit is very quiet, even with a Road Worn 60's strat with Tex Mex pickups.
Yes, the pedal is $240, but when you think of the build quality, the versatility, the features, the warranty, and the boost section (like having a second pedal), it is well worth the price and a wise choice. Plus, if you don't like it, send it back. Sweetwater is a great company to work with. It solved my problems, and my search is over when it comes to my overdrive / distortion needs. Enjoy, and try it out. Bill

superb

By Michael McFarland from NE NJ on January 25, 2017 Music Background: semi-semi-pro

I don't play clean. I play dirty with cascading OD. I alternate between ODs/Distortions. This sounds good with tube amplification. I don't know how to rate it's tone, because signal is butchered. But I like it. Been playing 3 decades. I have 4 boutique ODs/Dirt on my one board and the Pinnacle is ole faithful. Just the right kind of OD/Distortion. I accidentally plugged wrong wall wart into unit and fried it. After tribulation, I returned and it was repaired free, to include return ship. Unreal. I'm officially loyal.

2 Great Pedals in One!

By Jeff from NW Indiana on December 27, 2016 Music Background: 35 years, Rock & Blues

I have been playing for over 30 years. I have 4 pedal boards, 1 for bass guitar, 1 for acoustic guitar and 2 for electric guitars. My larger, main board, has 4 Wampler dirt pedals on it and the Faux Tape Echo. My wife bought me the Pinnacle Deluxe V2 for Christmas and I love it (and her)! I removed my Wampler Clarksdale to put the Pinnacle on this board. The Clarksdale was moved to my other board with the Velvet Fuzz. As for the Pinnacle, it sounds great with any guitar or amp I've run it through so far. In my opinion, no one does dirt better than Wampler. The Pinnacle Deluxe V2 is really 2 great sounding pedals in one. The "Boost" sounds great on its own. The number of sounds that one can dial in on this pedal are fantastic. It works well with single coils or humbuckers. It also plays well with other pedals. I have run my Tumnus into it and I have run it into my Euphoria. So many possibilities and well worth the cost.

Great Pedal

Wampler Products are Great. Great overdrive! User Friendly!

Not at all worth the price

By Jim on June 8, 2018

Very flabby tone, engaging the sag helps tighten everything up a bit, but without it on things get muddy quickly. The gain knob directly affects the volume so if your looking for low gain settings your going to have to Max out your the volume knob. I found the 3 eq settings to operate very unusually, meaning if you wanted to add treble for example , the sound your looking for would require you to play around with all the eq knobs because they all affect each other. When you get the gain high on the main channel its also very hissy. The boost side is no better. It's marketed as a tube screamer style boost but it's not close at all. It increases hiss no matter the setting and further muddies your sound. Build quality is great, top mounted jacks are great as well. I just couldn't believe how bad everything sounds through this pedal.
